Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program - Connect Here Part 8 by CoolGuyB(m): 12:56pm On May 27, 2019
Hello Psalmizt,

Not a Subject Matter Expert on this matter yet, but I have recently had to read around this particular topic.

My Take

I'll say do not change NOCs on your IRCC profile pre-ITA - you do not necessarily have full information on what criteria the PNP programme used in selecting you for consideration for nomination. For instance, it might be that you must have 3+ years of work experience in a particular NOC (e.g.1122) within the past 5 years.

There's a window you can use to 'optimise' your work experience/ NOC on your e-APR. You however need to ensure that if your provincial nomination is tied to a particular NOC (=occupation in demand), whatever changes you (propose to) make should not result in you attaining a lower number of years of work experience in that NOC that made you qualify for the Provincial Nomination in the first place. Post-AOR, the PNP-route assessment process starts with the IRCC Officer evaluating your eligibility against the criteria (as at your nomination date) for the particular PNP programme you were nominated under - any post-ITA discrepancy may be a red flag.

Folks who modified their NOCs post-ITA may not have had the PNP assessment criteria to worry about. As far as they still meet (or surpass) the qualifying criteria for the number of work-experience years in a qualifying NOC, they will scale the Express Entry-FSW assessment hurdle for work experience and may not have had to write an LOE for such.

psalmizt:
Hello everyone
I am expecting provincial nomination within the next couple of days. But I have a little challenge. Going over my NOCs and the reference letters, I discovered some sort of misalignment. As we all know, IRCC may pick on that so I have prepared a letter of explanation that states I had an experience that cut across the expected and chosen NOC.

A little background: I have 4 different work experiences and 3 letters of reference - my first and fourth work experience are in the same organisation. The way my first work experience was written it aligns more with 2171 but in my EE profile I chose 1122. In the letter of explanation I have added some certifications that qualified me for NOC 2171. My second work experience fits more with 1222 but I filled in 2123 mainly because I got a bit more involved with technical work.

Finally, my 3rd work experience is more 1122 inclined (thanks to @topsmamen, our copacetic senior) but I erroneously selected 4161. I dont have a problem with my 4th work experience because the right NOC was selected.

So here's my real headache, should I change my NOCs before ITA? If I change before or after accepting nomination should I contact my province immediately or I should just focus on IRCC? Can a letter of explanation replace the NoC you submitted. I have read of people who changed their NOC after ITA but used LoE to explain why they did. Will the case officer work with the submitted NOC or the NOC stated in the LOE?

Any ideas on the relationship between IRCC officials and the provincial officers?

Please I need help with the above. I am practically in a race against time.

Hi all, seems I will no longer be needing TEF. Just got a provincial nomination. Bonne chance à tous!

Double WOW!

Congratulations, @BootyliciousHon!

This is the real EXPRESS ENTRY - you got the Alberta NOI on 5th March and the provincial nomination has landed 16th April.

All the very best with the rest of the process.

justnice,

thing is i've not seen the newspaper advert for this year and wouldn't know if there's express instructions to submit the completed application forms before a particular date. If I were to advise you, I'll say you should try and send it ahead of you - submit before the interview date, i.e.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Commonwealth Schorlarship Intrview-infor Pls by CoolGuyB(m): 11:00am On Nov 21, 2007
justnice,

They usually get to interview all applicants from the zones on the allocated day - they've been doing this for a while and they have an idea of the usual number of applicants from each zone. Your suggested approach however appears to be a more reasonable one - but then, this is Nigeria!! To answer ur other question (and to further emphasize the chaos inherent in the whole process), people have been known to go along with their application forms on the day of the interviews, and they get accepted!!

cuju,

The application for ANY country (including the UK) can't be closed yet. You can get the UK forms here http://www.cscuk.org.uk/apply/applyagency.asp

Prince Joe,

The current application cycle is for the 2008/09 academic session. SO if the FSB says, in the newspaper advert, that T and T will be offering awards, they probably will be.

petty2033,

you can post ur concerns on the application form here so that others who might fall into the trap of making the same mistakes can learn from the response(s) you get.

Hi timok4chri, you will need to get a copy of your academic transcript as it will form part of your application package.

As per Trinidad and Tobago, i think they usually offer awards yearly, d total number of award though is quite small, compared to the UK, i.e. The process is such that around this time every year, countries that are willing to offer Nigerian citizens scholarship invite nominations from the Fed. Scholarship Board. So including T and T as one of the countries this year implies they'll be offering awards.

Depending on your chosen course of study, you get to attend an interview with a panel consisting of University professors (2 - 3) with background in the relevant field(s). Usually, you are asked questions pertaining to your course of study, your proposed research area, possibly some background stuffs/ fundamentals learnt during your undergrad, applicability and relevance of your course to Nigeria, and general knowledge/ current affairs questions.

In terms of total number of awards, applicants to UK schools have the highest chance of getting shortlisted because the UK, by a wide margin, offers the highest number of awards every year. Usually, Nigeria is asked to nominate a specific number of candidates (can't remember the number now, but i think it's between 30 - 40) for the UK general scholarship. For the UK awards, the UK Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) then pools candidates from specific regions of the world and rank candidates - e.g. Nigerian applicants are placed in an African pool. Unfortunately, the success rate of Nigerian applicants at this stage is not particularly impressive - this, i reckon, is 'because the principle of 'federal character' is applied in drawing up the final shortlist of applicants sent to the UK CSC. There's also, unfortunately, some level of 'influence' in who gets selected too. However, some candidates have been known to be quite lucky 'because they get to impress the Profs interviewing them and they get nominated without any influence.

For any intending UK applicant, I'll advise that you go through some past annual reports available at http://www.cscuk.org.uk/ for hints on what criteria the CSC evaluation committee will be considering applications forwarded to them.
Romance / "the Concept Of Love Confuses Me" by CoolGuyB(m): 10:05pm On Jun 14, 2007
Nairalanders, share your thoughts on this interesting piece.

Okay, I get love, but I don’t get the concept of romantic love . By which I mean the love they say exist between opposite sexes (my friend, I don’t roll that way and you know it). Romantic love confuses me not because I don’t know love, or that I have been denied love or “love”, perhaps it is the opposite. I have been blessed with great lovers- most especially my family. I get it. I get the love that uplifts when you mess up; that love which forgives unconditionally; that which makes you the best that you can be regardless of your weakness. But talking about Romantic love, I simply do not get it and I am not ashamed to admit it.

How will you approximate the love a mother has for her child with one a woman has for her lover? Let us examine this. Assuming you contract HIV/AIDS from an “outside woman” today, let us watch and see who will have your back after the discovery. You really think your wife is going to hang around if you are not Magic Johnson? Keep dreaming! In fact, it is a fact that even though you have dropped the ball on these two very important women in your life- the most likely emerging scenario is that your mother will stay to cater for you while the woman you call your life is most likely to bail out on you. It is the fact of life; she will simply accuse, try, and convict you of that great treasonable felony of marriage called cheating and you are quickly conscripted to the dustbin of history. Of course, if you are Magic Johnson that is a completely different matter. You see, you are rich, and her pay day is nearer. She sure can put up with the nuisance you have become now that you are on the last lap of your stupidity. For the record- the converse is true but I can only write this from a man’s perspective.

But beyond all of these, romantic love deeply confuses me. I have read the Good Book to examine the meaning of love. On all counts the three kinds of love: Filial (family), Agape (platonic) and Romantic love meets all the criteria enumerated but one. Romanic love is not selfless; in fact it is the most selfish kind of love. You only have romantic love for someone when your interest intersects with theirs. She is beautiful; you have prospect kind of situation. Relationships these days are a legal business transaction with its accounting side, strategic management side, and legal department inputs. We do not choose our family and the obligation of love we have to them, but we choose our significant others. We switch between love and hate in a second- and to those that find themselves on our scorned path, hell hath no fury like their damnation. Every day we are admonished to use our brains when we love, to remain in romantic relationships provided we have our way, not to sacrifice our lives for that man or that woman, not tolerate any nonsense- but what then is the concept of love? Is love not supposed to be selfless, longsuffering, and forgiving?

You can hardly divorce your relatives, even though most of us will try if given the opportunity, but divorce papers for romantic relationships is one in a dime in courts across the land. In fact, a friend of mine was called up from the office by a seemingly perfectly satisfied wife he left at home that fateful morning to fax his state ID card so she can obtain fast food divorce at one of the bolekaja county courts in his neighborhood. Unknown to him, his woman have been philandering with a co-worker that poses as her supervisor who comes in while he is away at work to pick up work package since she works out of the house while doubling as a stay at home mom. Unbeknownst to my good friend, his wife’s world is being rocked by the uncircumcised that is well paid! Poor black man

Thinking aloud to myself, I cannot count on my fingers and toes combined, how many times my close female pals will swear that their “booboo” (in their own words) is the best thing after toast bread, and then one week later he is the devil reincarnate. Of course, all it takes for you to be scorned by the elegant daughters of the 21st century is one of two things: say the truth that she does not rock your world anymore or go act by cuddling up with a competitor. In either case, you will earn the evil distinction of having wasted her time, being trifling, and no good man. God help you if you are a black man, dealing with a black woman you had better make sure you park your car in garages and closely monitored spaces in the few weeks following your spell bounding adventure. Your safety and that of your “girlfriend” i.e. your Toyota Camry you imagine is a Corvette, depends largely on your hiding skills or you will regret the day you met that woman you just broke her heart. Okay, just joking.

But if “romantic” love is true and real, shouldn’t you be in love with him regardless of how he has treated you? Should it matter if he doesn’t love you anymore? What difference does a second make? I mean the second between when you thought he was the Denzel of your life and the time you caught him in the act. Is there anything like unconditional romantic love?  What role if any does money, wealth, and power play in making or breaking romantic love? If romantic “love” is based on these trivialities, how then can we call it love? I am just wondering. Because if filial and agape love were like romantic love, God knows I would have done away with all paraphernalia of self righteousness and thrown some people right of the clan. Before I sign off, just one question- do you get romantic love? When you hear the words “I love you” from your significant other, do you think it is a complete statement or one that carries an implied condition? Just asking.

Dedicated to two people who against all odds have loved themselves and I have been privileged to know as a son; happy birthdays and wedding anniversary

Talking about love, what do you have to say about this very interesting piece? http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/articles/michael-oluwagbemi/the-concept-of-love-confuses-me.html

If you subscribe (like I do) to the idea contained in this piece, then it is definitely possible to love more than one person at the same time - for different reasons possibly.

Career / Re: Pls Consulting Firm Or Bank? by CoolGuyB(m): 5:37pm On Jun 04, 2007
I'd say you are better off in a consulting firm than in a bank. As an accountant, if you are in the Audit or Financial Advisory practice of a good consulting firm, you get to acquire a wide variety of skills within a shorter period of time than in a Bank. You also get to rise through the ranks at a faster rate - rising to become a Manager within 6 years (or less, depending on your performance rating) strictly based on merit (and not who you know) is not impossible in any of the reputable consulting firms.

If you are good at what you do and you decide to specialise in the Financial Services Industry line of a good consulting firm, you can easily cross over to a bank later and you can be sure you'll be placed at a higher cadre than your peers in the bank.

BUT all actually depends on what YOU want to do. For instance, what role have you been offered in the bank and does it tally with your career aspiration.

P.S. who says banks pay higher than (the good) consulting firms? In the long, and even short, term, you get to earn more as a consultant than as a banker. i.e. using the reputable consulting firms as a benchmark. In any case, Do you want to 'be' or you want to 'have'?  wink - if it's the former, you are definitely better off as a consultant.

Wish you the best.
