benalvino3: Just imagine if the dead young man had a gun and defended himself? it will be a maga extremist killed a man. they will be shouting Nazi and Racist trump supporter
If he had defended himself with a gun, they would've said "why did he come to a street dance with a gun?", "he was obviously looking for trouble."
He had the right spirit, but wrong mindset and methods. Wanting to end racial oppression is an objectively good thing, but dictatorship and genocide are objectively the wrong ways to go about it.
The Wakandans were complicit, in their willfull ignorance to the rest of the world. When they had the ability to help, and power to end conflicts and exploitation in their universe's version of Africa, or share their medical, or other humanitarian advances with their world at no cost to themselves, but no they rather just hide.
It took killmonger for them to realize they were wrong, and still at the end of the movie nothing changes, or rather Marvel were just unwilling to write any drastic changes to their world, and instead we just get a basketball court.
What moral obligation does a country have to help people from other countries because of the melanin content of their skin?
In what conceivable way could Wakanda have ended conflicts in Africa or ended racism across the pond? Except maybe through conquest and imperialism.
Even then who do they side with? Sudan or South Sudan? Mali or the Touareg? Nigeria or ESN or ISWAP? It gets considerably more difficult when you can't visually differentiate the "oppressor" and the "oppressed", doesn't it? Nothing is as black and white as the movie names it seem (no pun intended).
The movie didn't even consider these questions because it is not a movie for black people but rather, a movie for black Americans. They don't actually care about Africans, and that's fine. That, my friend, is the true reason they built a basketball court at the end of it.
IMAliyu2: A product of Marvel. Where they make people who were right (killmonger) the bad guys and the social commentary they side with at the end of the day is to maintain the status quo with nothing changing.
Killmonger was right? He wanted to arm black people all over the world so they could Holocaust white people because slavery.
He definitely had a point but my controversial opinion is that if genocide is your solution then you probably aren't the good guy.
Duchessree: You won't blame me na The person who recommended the anime put it on the same level with "inuyashiki" and "beyond the boundary". So when i downloaded it, i was expecting some action or something, I had a lot of high expectations for it, and i guess as the anime didn't meet my expectations i got disappointed . This has happen to me in some anime I've watched. While some do meet up my expectations, some don't.
Hype is a double-edged sword. It can color the perspective of the viewer they even watch the first episode.
Any time someone tells me a show is good, I always ask why because I know that people's preferences will always differ. Descriptions are always more useful than ratings in determining whether an anime would be worthwhile.
Baddestguyp: Everytime I see any comic news trending, it's always rubbish like Superman's son is gay, Thor is Bisexual, Captain America has come out to be gender neutral etc It's so funny and it's why I have no interest in returning to comics except maybe Invincible
Luckily Japan is not like that...e.g One Piece major plot development news is always trending, even without reading the manga, any major spoilers is everywhere from twitter to TikTok to reddit to WhatsApp...even leaks sef
I wish we saw developments like Superman's son is in a good comic, Thor is in a good comic, and Captain America has come out to be the main character of a good comic.
benalvino3: Sadly this is the lie most of them believe.
People who have showed signs of extremism here are
1: Ibime 2: pride of lincoln 3: saliford
Ibime, the first time he saw what i posted and he disagrees with, he started trying to dig dirt on me from the internet. another time, he said if My buddy whom i spent time with at Birmingham Knew i was a trump supporter, he would have spat on my face and kick me out.
I told him, I have all sorts of friends... and we all respect each other's political corner. We can argue and discuss it... but that is where it ends.
saliford and Pride of Lincoln literally hoped for gun men to kill men
these guys head no correct.
99% of the "tough guys" you see on the internet are just keyboard warriors. They can't and won't say any of those things to your face.
These people believe Twitter and Reddit are accurate representations of the real world and conclude that your friend would hate you for supporting Trump. I hang with some ultra-progressive people and they know I don't buy into the 'orange man bad' or 'blame whites for all our problems' mentality. However, we still find common ground and communicate like adults.
Just because media and academia have been astroturfed to hell by commies doesn't mean that liberals and conservatives aren't still close to 50-50 split in America. People go on online echo-chambers and think their dumbass ideas are popular.
wirinet: False equivalence. BLM and Antifa was a protest that turned violent to protest the perceived injustice against blacks expecially after George Floyd was murdered. It had no political undertone as it was not organised by any politician
Jan 6 was organised to stop violently the certification of election results and distrupt the transfer of power to a new government. The goal of the organisers and rioters was to harm the Vice President, the speaker and other legislators who wants to certify the election results. It was in effect a coup to stop the transfer of power. In other countries the organisers and participants would be executed for treason.
Wrong.
The planned event was to protest at the Capitol. Some extremists among the protesters broke in and damaged stuff. There was no grand conspiracy. It was a protest that got out of hand. I condemn the violence but it wasn't organised with violence as the end goal.
Discountsempai: Been following the discussion you guys have been having...and to be honest, while good points have been made, overall, I doubt anime and manga are , as a whole, getting more 'woke and westernized' per se.
There is still fanservice (I am following anime like Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon, and even manga like Rent -a girlfriend, which have some fanservice, and then recently there was World's end harem, which was heavily fanservicey.), and Japanese culture is still permeating most manga and anime I watch and follow...old and new. There are a whole lotta titles out there, and most of them are not 'western
I also doubt that the manga and anime makers are pandering to 'woke western customers'...at the end, their primary market is still Japan, and Japan is a different country from the USA. And even some of the most woke fans out there are watching anime because it is different from what they get at home, and won't want it to change much at all. (being woke sometimes involves respecting other cultures a lot...in a way).
Ironically, most anime was influenced by Western art styles (the big eyes of many anime characters comes from Disney style animation) and some anime storylines take place either in the West, or are influenced by the Western world (anime like Black Lagoon, and recently Takt op Destiny, and Cop Craft)...so they may look western a bit.
So, I really don't think that anime is getting woke. Not when Emilia is telling Subaru in the last season of Re Zero that she may have gotten pregnant from being kissed on the cheek by him (Emilia is not a character that many a woke person would wuv.).
P.S Crunchyroll's attempt to release an inhouse anime called High Guardian spice should tell you all about how popular wokeism is in anime fandoms in the West...
P.S 2: Not into shonen anime much myself...but there is a lot more beyond shonen anime which are still very Japanese.
I'm hypersensitive to these warning signs. Shonen Jump already seems to be inching ever-so-slightly towards that direction. Ideas such as this can trickle down to the other manga publishers. It doesn't take much for everything to go hell. Just look at the American comic industry.
Hell, look at any piece of entertainment media pre-2016 and compare that to now. The comic, movie, and video games industries accuse their fanbases of being bigots when they react negatively to their content.
Let's not forget that the CEO of Kadokawa already made pro-censorship remarks before he was forced to apologize and take a pay cut. It kinda shows you the headspace of these big Japanese publishers.
Kaycee7: Nah! It's plausible. Money talks, büllshit works after all. And they've got the money to exert a bit of influence. Streaming platforms like Crunchyroll and HiDive have changed the landscape and are basically growing as revenue options for anime companies. If the revenue keeps growing, we might just see the creators leaning more in that direction.
Let's hope that Japanese xenophobia and nationalism continues to prevail over western imperialism.
I'm not trying to be a fearmonger but I've seen these people infiltrate and destroy too many subcultures and fandoms. Maybe I'm just a little bit paranoid.
Kaycee7: I'll get worried when I see Japanese creators start pandering to the western PC audience. As long as good old Nippon keeps giving them the finger, they can cry harder for all I care
I mean—we're already Shonen Jump moving away from fanservice. All the titles with content that the western puritans won't approve of are being moved to the Jump+ app, including Chainsaw Man.
The top Shonen Jump manga, Jujutsu Kaisen is as westernized as they come. The male character designs are fujo-bait, which is cool and all, but there's definitely no eye-candy for the primary shonen audience—on the biggest shonen magazine, mind you.
She was almost cut from anime. CD Projekt Red wanted her removed because they thought she was a 'loli' character. Studio Trigger basically told them that Rebecca stays or they walk.
budaatum: Which riots? Far Right anti-Muslim riots that had been going on before the sex ring was discovered, or those protesting against Far Right anti-Muslim riots? We did have both over here, in case you do not know, just as America had protesters and rioters at Charlotte.
I would condemn violence from BLM and Antifa, except that I don't see the need to since they are a minority and they are not my focus. I won't condemn the BLM and Antifa protesters however, Cool, same way I would not condemn you for resisting me trying to choke you if I were choking you. Na. That's not exactly true. I likely might condemn you resisting me trying to choke you if I were choking you since you'd be stopping me from achieving my desired goal to choke you if I were choking you. I'm biased that way, I guess. I will condemn the Jan 6 insurrectionists however, because they were rioting based on a lie.
Think EndSars. I do condemn them for looting and rioting (they completely destroyed my local government building!), but I most definitely do support their cause which was against police brutality.
I know you don't like my apparent contradiction, but I'm afraid you will need to learn to square a circle.
My violence against you choking me is very justified. But your violence against me choking you is not justified at all by me, because you would be stopping me from achieving my desired goal which is to choke you.
Not all BLM/Antifa protests were riots. Here in UK BLM/Antifa did not riot though they did protest, and if the Jan 6 had been a peaceful protest I'd not have much to object to apart from their ignorance at believing a lie. They however went a tad too far, which is why they are ending up in jail, and which is where the BLM/Antifas who protested violently should hopefully end up too.
British police who have gunned down minorities or anyone, pay for their gunning down if their gunning down is not justified.
So what exactly were the riots for?
budaatum: British citizens who decide to take matters into their own hands about the Islamic child trafficking gangs that the police have not mostly ignored would be committing a crime and would end up in jail just as the Jan 6 insurrectionist are being jailed.
Cool, so why won't you condemn violence from BLM and Antifa as I did with the Jan 6 rioters? Why are we arguing in circles here?
budaatum: And for your information, violence is not justified, especially not if based on whatever one may believe. You might note that I did not say I'd be violent if I believed you were choking me. But if you are actually choking me, as opposed to me just believing you are, I'd be surprised if you think I wouldn't violently fight for my life.
Ok, since violence isn't justified. I'm sure as reasonable people we can agree the violence from BLM and Antifa wasn't justified either. I'm sure we can come together to condemn the Jan 6 rioters and the BLM/Antifa rioters, right?
budaatum: Protesting for your rights and to stop being oppressed is very acceptable to me. I after all would not sit back doing nothing if you are sitting on my neck choking me, and I somehow do not think you'd agree that you should not be violently resisted if you are choking me.
I might be wrong though. You just might want me to not be violent towards you if you are choking me, but what you might want does not in any way dictate what I might do.
British police have been gunning down minorities? The more you know...
So violence is justified if you believe that your reasons are noble.
So say, hypothetically, some British citizens decided to take matters into their own hands about the Islamic child trafficking gangs that the police have mostly ignored, would you keep the same energy? Even though some innocents would get caught up in the collateral damage?
budaatum: We had them here in UK too. What's amazing is the change it brought about. We have more black people on important programs on telly and the second most powerful person in our government is a now black guy from Ghana.
You can't oppress people for so long and not expect them to react.
Ok so violence is acceptable when you agree with the outcome, got it.
basilico: Pelosi called it a Summer of Love. CNN reporter infront of a burning building said the riots were mostly peaceful The peaceful rioters were chanting Pigs in a Blanket, Fry 'Em Like Bacon about the police.
CHAZ/CHOP took over some city blocks in Seattle. A black man got killed in a drive-by shooting within that autonomous zone. Paramedics couldn't get to the scene because of the rioters. Police who came to investigate were met with an angry mob and couldn't begin interviews unto 72 hours after the fact.
budaatum: You must be right of course. All the Jan 6 insurrectionists in jail today are definitely card carrying members of BLM and Antifa. Even the judges dump appointed are BLM and Antifa, along with the DOJ and the FBI and the CIA.
See some of them below with their non-black masks on!
There was literally an entire summer of left wing riots. I condemn the Jan 6th riot, will you do the same to BLM's and Antifa's political violence? Or the CHAZ/CHOP rioters who took over a couple of city blocks in Seattle?
