In presenting this I’ll use the term ‘spirituality’ rather than the word ‘religious’. Religious to me (- I might be wrong!) limits one to believing in and reverence for a God. Spirituality, however, takes it a step further broadening one’s perspectives on God, religions (- and there’s many of them) and Mans spiritual connection with the Universe. The first step in enhancing your spirituality is to minimize distractions; a clear-thinking head devoid of any worries or commitments. Most of the time these commitments are of a worldly nature; things we’re obsessed with, mostly material things, which take up our time. “It’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God”. A rich man, pastor, or Man of God, worried about the running costs of his private jet or the welfare of his vast business empire hardly has time to concentrate, fully, on serving God, let alone help others find the path. He would like to think he’s Gods chosen one but when materialism crawls into the picture it clouds our thoughts and sometimes takes over. How many of us can walk away from it all? Giving up the mansions, cars, clothes and ostentatious lifestyle to follow our faith – very few if not none. Like a millstone around our necks, materialism – which is the bane of our very existence – weighs us down. Without a doubt there are other things we do that impedes our spiritual development such as bed-hopping, gluttony, envy, pride amongst other things but materialism takes centre stage. Eliminate or control this and everything else will fall like dominoes. It’s difficult to walk away from it all. But others have done it. Countless people have turned to the priesthood vowing to live lives of chastity and poverty. Monks, Nuns and Holy Men have walked away from a world of materialism to devote their entire lives to the worship of God. But not everybody can follow in their footsteps giving up everything. Our purposes in life differ and while some are committed to a spiritual life others have to live in the real world where there is a certain social etiquette to follow; being seen to be successful, happy and prosperous. But we can enhance our spirituality by decreasing our vain dependency on materialism. A simple life is what is called for, limiting ourselves to only the things we need, the basics, and not what we don’t need. ‘Keeping up with the Joneses’. You want to be seen to be better than your neighbour – bigger house, flashier car, more wealth and more success. In doing so our focus in life shifts from trying to be more spiritual to being more materialistic. ‘Give unto Caesar what is Caesars’. You can’t worship two Gods. I’m not saying you shouldn’t strive for success, I’m saying there should be a balance. There is nothing wrong in being wealthy and successful. But at what point do you draw a line? Do you let it take over your life and let it dominate you or do you dominate it? Do you decide what you have is your good fortune and live a frugal life, giving away the excess or do you clamour for more? The minute you start clamouring for more and more of what you really don’t need you begin to lose your spirituality and the path to Godliness will move further and further away from you. You only need so much. Excess brings on worries and worries cloud your thinking. Try and think less of the material things you don’t have and clamour to obtain – the things that aren’t necessities in life – in doing so your mind becomes clearer and more receptible to the spiritual side of your life. You can’t pray or meditate effectively if you’re thinking, all the time, about acquiring the latest fashion accessories or your jaunt to Dubai or showing off your vanity to the rest of the world or how you’re going to keep up with your neighbours. Having it all – success and wealth – does not necessarily equate to contentment or happiness. Keep your life simple, live within your means and quit the mad race of ‘keeping up with the joneses’- it’s an empty pursuit of material things you can’t take with you when your time is up – your life will become fuller, more meaningful and more spiritual. Learn to set time aside to meditate or pray. I call it ‘me-time’. Time when you can actually switch off and be on your own – in your room, out in a park, in a desert or by a body of water or in a temple or church. Time when there can be nothing to distract or interrupt you. I know we all lead busy lives full of , perhaps, noisy kids, demanding partners, social and work engagements but you CAN find some time to be own your own. Night time is the best time to meditate and pray when it’s all peaceful and quiet. I personally like to go for long walks at night, its peaceful with less noise and distraction making it easier to meditate(WARNING – Unless you live in a part of the world where it’s safe to go out walking at night I wouldn’t recommend it. If you go walkabout in Naija in the middle of the night you’ll be robbed and killed or chopped up and used for money-making spells by ritualists!) A long time ago there was less crime, of all sorts, in the country when people lived within their means, when there wasn’t the mad rush for instant wealth, the need to procure private planes, yachts and million dollar watches. People were more spiritual and godly because the acquisition of vain materialistic items wasn’t high on their agendas. Whatever happened to living basic lives when we just had to put a roof above our heads and feed the family? Living basics lives, then, enabled people to tune into their spiritual side a lot more than we are doing today. You can’t worship two gods. To enhance your spirituality sacrifice is required – not that much – just a little more of your time, a clear un-committed head and a strict control of materialism and distractions in your life. The Department of State Services (DSS) is considering questioning some associates of former President Goodluck Jonathan to unravel their alleged links with the new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers. Although a source close to the undercover agency hinted that more may be quizzed, he specifically mentioned former presidential aide, Mr Waripamowei Dudafa, and Jonathan’s cousin, Robert Azibola, as possible guests of the DSS within the week to explain what they know about the new militant group. The source disclosed that former director-general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Patrick Akpobolokemi, might also be invited for questioning. Incidentally, the trio of Dudafa, Azibola and Akpobolokemi are having running battles with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). While the latter is already in court on multiple charges courtesy of the anti-graft body, the duo of Dudafa and Azibola are yet to be charged to court weeks after their arrest and detention. Their lawyers have petitioned relevant agencies over the ordeal of their clients even as Dudafa had complained that he had been denied medical attention while in EFCC custody. But the source confided in our correspondent that the inability of the EFCC to effect the bail of both the former president’s cousin and aide was as a result of an ongoing searchlight on the duo. ‘‘The issue of their bail or not is beyond the EFCC. Remember that once national security is involved, nothing will be left unturned to unravel whatever that needed to be exposed. “As a body, we have been inundated with reports that the trio of Akpobolokemi, Dudafa and Azibola were at the Yenagoa meeting in January 2015 where some ex-militants vowed to make Nigeria ungovernable if Jonathan lost the presidential election. ‘‘What are we seeing today? Is it not violence and renewed militancy? So we are going to find out the links they have with the so-called avengers before the issue of their bail could come up because we won’t compromise national security under any guise. ‘‘We were not merely playing to the gallery when we said officials of the past administration were possible sponsors. We have just started and why we can mention names to be quizzed is because they are already in our custody and we can’t mention others under surveillance so as not to jeopardize investigation,” he said. read more @http://www.buzorpages.com/2016/06/dss-to-quiz-dudafa-akpobolokemi-over.html |
1. A nag – There are many things that men can do to improve your lot in life. However, many things in nature do conspire to make that a little bit hard. Men know this all too well. Throwing tantrums and endlessly complaining about him will do little to endear yourself to him. 2. Gold digger – The moment a man learns that you are after his money, you have blown it away. "Let her be modest in her expectations and all will be well," states Don, mentioned earlier. 3. Home wrecker – Men hate embarrassing situations at home, more so when their buddies come visiting. Don't deflate their ego by leaving things lying all over the house. "A house resembling a bomb blast site is a real turn off for me," discloses Wasike. 4. Out of shape – "Men marry women with the hope they will never change," so said Albert Einstein. Men strongly feel this statement still has merit. 5. A Nigerian man and his Zambian friend have been arrested for allegedly duped Thai women in the so-called romance scam. Immigration Bureau Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Natthathorn Prohsunthorn told a press conference Sunday that Aroh Chukwudipaul, 26, a Nigerian, and Patrick Banda, 29, a Zambian, have been arrested following a complaint by a Thai businesswoman. Natthathorn said the two were charged with duping Thai women to believe that they were Americans and they allegedly collaborated with some Thais to deceive their victims to pay a lot of money for custom clearance process for what claimed to be gift or cash sent to them. The immigration police chief said the arrest of the two was made after a businesswoman filed complaint with police that she was deceived to wire Bt836,500 to a Thai woman who claimed to be a customs official and who claimed that she had received a gift of a lot UK banknotes from her American Facebook friend. She transferred the money and the woman and the "American general" disappeared. Police tracked the money and found that a Thai woman withdrew the money from an ATM machine in Nakhon Si Thammarat and wired to Chukwudipaul's account. Police arresed Chukwudipaul, who had no entry visa, and his testimony led to the arrest of Banda, whose entry visa expired on May 20. It was about 2:25pm on May 29, when Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State mounted the podium at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, to address the people of the state on his one year stewardship. The governor’s address, which was part of the activities marking this year’s Democracy Day celebration, presented a compendium of his achievements so far and made projections into the future on how to continue to advance good governance and guide the state through the current economic realities in the country. It was, indeed, the scorecard of a worthy and visionary leader, as the governor demonstrated his passion for good governance and commitment to deliver on his campaign promises to the people of Enugu State. It is on record that Ugwuanyi’s administration has in just one year in office completed six major road projects while over 15 development projects are on-going. The government has also recorded unprecedented feats in other sectors of development in the state. His administration has advertised the award of contract for 25 new roads, including three bridges in the 17 local government areas as part of his administration’s grassroots development initiatives and the exercise is currently at the stage of bidding. Standing confidently before an array of dignitaries, who came in their numbers to grace the first anniversary ceremony, Ugwuanyi started by paying special tribute to God for the wonderful privilege, favour and mercies that have accompanied his administration since its inception. He appreciated the good people of the state both at home and in the Diaspora for their support, goodwill, cooperation and solidarity, describing them as “the true heroes of democracy.” One significant thing about the 2016 Democracy Day celebration in Enugu State is that it was the first time an immediate past governor of the state attended the first anniversary of his successor. Former Governor Sullivan Chime was prominent on the roll call of those who witnessed the colourful first anniversary of Ugwuanyi. While congratulating President Muhammadu Buhari and, indeed, all Nigerians for the attainment and sustenance of 17 unbroken years of democracy, Ugwuanyi stated that the feat “shows our common faith in the progress and stability of our country and our capability to accomplish any goal that we have set our minds upon, despite our differences.” Ugwuanyi’s Democracy Day address read in part: “Precisely one year ago today, I addressed you for the first time as your governor, and I did proclaim that my divinely appointed mission was to bring good news, message of continued hope, peace and development to our people; to bind up the broken hearted; to proclaim liberty to every Wawa man caught in the prison of poverty and under-development. “I promised that we will deploy government services to create fair and equal opportunity for every willing citizen to make a living and create wealth, educate our children, and enjoy life in a peaceful and secure environment. I said that we will drive with full force, investment promotion, renewal of the agricultural sector, provision of critical infrastructure, human capital development and skills acquisition. “I also pledged that rather than allow the severe economic recession occasioned by the negative developments in the oil sector deter us from achieving our goals, we will instead, turn the situation into an opportunity to look inwards and harness those potentials which free oil money has blinded and prevented us from exploiting all the while. “Ndi Enugu, I believe that a critical appraisal of our actions and achievements within this past one year will show that we have not only kept faith with these promises, despite the severe economic difficulties confronting our nation today, we are poised to do even much more.” After presenting the true picture of the economy, which includes a fall in the monthly allocation to states from the Federation Account to less than 38 per cent of what it used to be, declared, “Notwithstanding these bleak economic realities, we were able to embark on the massive development of urban and rural roads across the state in fulfilment of our promise to create more urban centres, enhance rural access and boost economic activities in every corner of Enugu State.” On investment promotion, Ugwuanyi told the people, “Enugu State currently occupies a prominent space in the global economic map owing to the resounding success of the first ever Enugu State Investment Summit, which we organised to showcase the economic potentials of the state in line with our promise to vigorously promote investment and pursue the diversification of the state’s economy.” He expressed his confidence that investors would soon take advantage of this great opportunity to do businesses in the state. On rural and agricultural development, the governor stated that his administration constructed a 15-kilometre Inter-Town Connection (ITC) 2.5MVA Injection Sub-Station at Ezi-Nze, Udi Local Government Area, which currently supplies electricity to communities in Udi, Igbo-Etiti and Uzo-Uwani local government areas. He said the injection sub-station will also activate businesses in these rural communities and power the Adada Dam project as well as the Greater Nsukka Water Scheme, adding that it procured 20 tractors to be hired to genuine farmers at very low rates. The disclosed that his administration recently acquired 750 hectares of land to be distributed to youths and women for use in commercial agriculture, noting that each beneficiary will be allocated three hectares of land for his or her use in the scheme. On health sector, Ugwuanyi observed that the sector was already receiving a breath of fresh air. He stated that the state government had continued to sustain its Free Maternal Health and Child Care programme while ensuring the proper equipment and staffing of existing health institutions in the state. He said his administration was close to completing the ultra-modern medical diagnostic centre in Enugu and arrangements had been made for commencement of the construction of three new specialist hospitals in the three senatorial zones of the state in pursuit of its aspiration to turn Enugu State into the choice destination for medical treatment and medical tourism in the country. The recent spate of bombings of oil facilities in the Niger Delta has put the Nigerian economy in dire straits, plunging the country further down the road to a financial crisis. Latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, said the Nigerian economy is teetering on the brink of recession and the increase in bombings is throwing the country deeper into the abyss. The situation becomes worrisome when viewed against the backdrop that crude oil exports account for about 70 per cent of Nigeria’s revenue and 90 per cent of Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings.http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/nigeria-bleeds-pipeline-bombings-vandalism-wreaks-economy/

Threat by a militant group, Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF), to launch six missiles in the Niger Delta from Tuesday has sparked panic in the geo-political zone. Residents of Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa states in particular are apprehensive of the likely effects of the missile launch on an area that is already in turmoil over the spate of attacks on oil installations in Bayelsa and Delta states by the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA). They want the Federal Government and the security agencies to step in immediately and stop the situation from degenerating. Some of the people who spoke to The Nation on the matter fear that the militants usually carry out their threats, adding that those that were issued by NDA had come to pass without anyone preventing them. Others berated the militants and queried their motive for wanting to cause grieve among the people they claim to be defending. Comrade Ben Tari, leader of Eye of Niger Delta (END), said in Port Harcourt that no true son of the Niger Delta would threaten the people the way the JNDLF and the NDA are going about their business. He queried: “Are you sure that these people are from the Niger Delta? They say they are new but they are not new. They are still the same people that broke away from earlier groups because they refused to be controlled. “They are complaining about government and the oil companies, killing the means of livelihood of the Niger Delta people, such as the aquatic system. “Now they want to launch missiles to kill us and our soil. “If they want to fight our cause, they should make use of the International Court.” The President of Aggrieved Niger Delta, Mr. Prince Amatari Bipeledei, described the missile launch threat as a needless venture and asked President Muhammadu Buhari to have a rethink about military action to confront the Niger Delta militants. He called for dialogue instead. Bipeledei said: “Nobody has ever achieved anything with violence. I want the Avengers to apply dialogue and a sense of maturity, understanding and wisdom. “I am for peace, and to be frank, agitation may not be meaningful because it has put the region in a tight situation. “I am not happy about the inability of the government to take things seriously until they have gone out of hand. “These youths would not have gone this far if the previous government had considered our challenges.” The Secretary General of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Mr. Bristol Alagbariya Emmanuel, attributed the fresh wave of violence to alleged neglect of the zone by successive governments. He said there would always be crises in the region for as long as it remains underdeveloped and neglected. A former military administrator of Bayelsa State, Colonel Edor Obi (rtd) advised the Federal Government to exercise caution in handling the problem, noting that the challenge cannot be solved militarily. He said: “The killing of soldiers and civilians and bombing of oil facilities are condemnable, but the Federal Government would have to thread with caution in handling the matter. “It will require a lot of tact to address the problem. But one thing the government must do is open up communication channels because the problem cannot be solved militarily. “If we are not careful in handling the problem, it could become a more complex national security challenge than terrorism.” A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Ladi Williams, also advised the Federal Government against using only force to address the problem. Instead, he said, the government should use the carrot and stick approach to resolve the challenge. “The government should talk to them a little and fight them a little,” he said. “The present development portends doom and sodomy for the country. It is bad for the investment drive of the country and not helping the image of the country internationally. “The President must constitute a war and peace council that should not consist of officials of the government alone but everybody who genuinely wants an end to this problem. “The young men making up the group should also toe the part of peace and avoid wasting their lives.” The president, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Comrade Shetima Yerima, who doubles as the Chairman, Coalition of Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders, described the JNDLF threat as disappointing, saying: “It is unfortunate that they are sabotaging the efforts of the government and setting the country back for no good reasons. “It is very wrong of them to have put us in this mess. If they have issues with the Federal Government or any individual in the government, they should employ a peaceful way of resolving it. Over 8,300 people have signed a petition asking the United Kingdom to openly investigate stolen funds from Nigeria kept in the country. If the petition, available on petition.parliament.uk, reaches 10,000 signatures by the November 19, 2016 deadline, the UK government will respond to it. Meanwhile, if it reaches 100,000 signatures by the November deadline, it will be considered for debate in the UK parliament. The creator of the petition, Siji Otenigbagbe, lamented that the UK had served as a haven for stolen funds for corrupt Nigerian politicians and their associates since the 1960s. “These funds are kept as pseudo assets, bank accounts and properties. In law, the receiver of stolen goods is as guilty as the thief. It is about time the UK did something,” he said. The petition, which can only be signed by British citizens and UK residents, had gathered 8,303 signatures as of Friday, June 3, 2016. President Muhammadu Buhari had at the 2016 Anti-Corruption Summit in London, demanded the UK to return assets in the country which were stolen by corrupt Nigerian politicians. This was after the UK Prime Minister David Cameron tagged Nigeria as a “fantastically corrupt” country. Responding to Cameron’s statement, Buhari had said, “I am not going to be demanding any apology from anybody. What I will be demanding is the return of assets. A Christian musician has revealed that he is gay. Trey Pearson, front man for Everyday Sunday, has opened up about his sexuality, saying "I couldn't keep trying to be something that I wasn't." In a letter published online by Ohio-based 614 Magazine, the married father-of-two has been with his wife seven years and praised her for supporting him. He said: "I grew up in a very conservative Christian home where I was taught that my sexual orientation was a matter of choice, and had put all my faith into that." Mr Pearson, 35, said that he was afraid of his sexuality: "I was scared of what God would think and what all of these people I loved would think about me." In the 12-page article, he says that he know he was attracted to boys from an early age but ignored his feelings for most of his life. After his marriage in 2008, he says he learned that he was "never going to be who my wife needed me to be". He told the magazine that he was trying to be his real self, "but then I realised the only way I was ever going to be my best for them was to be healthy myself." A number of prominent Christian musicians have also come out as lesbian or gay including Anthony Williams, Jennifer Knapp and Vicky Beeching who have all spoken about their experiences of faith and sexuality. Trey Pearson said he wants to help others be true to themselves: "I absolutely want to be a voice for other people." A manual of Islam used in British prisons teaches inmates about jihad and 'incites' them to wage holy war, it has been claimed. The Tarbiyah (Islamic study) programme has a section on holy war and advises that taking up arms against the enemies of Allah is 'one of the noblest acts'. Shaeikh Musa Admani has called for it to be removed because it 'incites' violence and helps convicted terrorists manipulate younger inmates towards extremism. The Tarbiyah teaches inmates the difference between internal jihad, the struggle for improvement, and external, the fight against evil - but Admani says there is too much focus on fighting. The document, seen by the BBC, reads: 'There may necessitate a time to pick up arms and physical [sic] fight such evil... It is one of the noblest acts.' The statement in the manual, which was written by imams and Ahtsham Ali, an adviser to the Ministry of Justice, is followed by a section from the Koran. Mr Admani, an expert in interpreting Islamic texts, worries that it focuses on violence and could make prisoners more violent: He told the BBC: 'This document sets out the steps and then addresses various forms of jihad and then goes on to emphasise a particular type ie. the killing and the fighting. 'It incites people to take up arms... It prepares people for violence. It could turn people when they come out of prison, supposedly rehabilitated, back into violence. President Buhari will die if he visits Ogoniland, Niger Delta, members of the deadly Niger Delta Avengers Militant group have warned. The militant group warned Wednesday that the life of President Muhammadu Buhari is in danger if he visits the oil-rich Niger Delta region. In a recording sent to IBTimes UK, a man is heard saying during a phone conversation with one of the hosts of UK-based Radio Biafra, that Buhari “should sign his death warrant” before his visit. Buhari is due to visit some states in south-eastern Nigeria to discuss with local leaders ways to tackle renewed violence in the area. The president’s planned visit – which is expected to begin on Thursday (2 June 2016) – comes as attacks on oil pipelines blamed on the new group Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) partially halted oil production, and forced Chevron and Royal Dutch Shell to close at least two plants. “Buhari is trying to visit Ogoniland, but he should sign his death warrant before coming to Port Harcourt or try to visit any state of the Niger Delta community, Biafra land,” the suspected NDA member said during the phone call. “We are starting a dance he cannot finish. We shall dance like vultures. He [Buhari] has dared to wake a sleeping lion, but I promise him this time around if he tries to step his foot in any community of the Niger Delta, in Biafraland, he will not go back alive. Any Niger Deltan who will try to walk with Buhari shall also go to his grave that day. This is our assurance.” Killings of pro-Biafrans The man also condemned the fact that Nigerian security forces opened fire on pro-Biafran demonstrators during commemorations to pay homage to the victims of the 1967-1970 Nigerian Civil War, also known as Biafran War, on Monday (30 May 2016). Police confirmed the deaths of 10 protesters and two police officers during clashes in Anambra state, claiming demonstrators were armed. Pro-Biafrans denied the allegations. “The Nigerian government shot and killed our brothers. They showed us are the monsters,” the man said. He then urged all pro-Biafrans to pray for their leader Nnamdi Kanu – director of radio Biafra and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra [IPOB] – who is standing trial on six counts of treasonable felony charges. Niger Delta Avengers are the latest militant group to wage war against the Nigerian government, having accused the ruling party of marginalising people in the oil-rich Niger Delta. Buhari ‘can go wherever he wants’ Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, Nigeria’s director of defence information, said the government does not perceive NDA as a threat. “Niger Delta is part of Nigeria and will remain part of Nigeria for life. Buhari is the president, he is number one, he can go anywhere he wants,” he said. “[The] NDA are just criminals and we are treating them as criminals. We are not being intimidated, we remain focussed to ensure security in the country and that Nigeria remains one. Nobody is above the interest of the country,” he continued. “No nation can tolerate an individual group causing havoc and advocating for separation. There are measures in our constitution to ensure this will not happen. We cannot and will not tolerate what these people are doing. In the long run, they will surely pay for they have done.” NDA and pro-Biafrans Pro-Biafrans are demanding the independence of Biafran territories forcibly annexed to Nigeria during British colonisation, which ended in 1960. Intelligence consultant David Otto believes NDA also has secessionist views, and this can explain their support for the Biafra cause. “The Avengers could be that official military wing that IPOB and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (Massob) never had,” he said. “The direct threat to the life of the President may not be substantiated, but it is bold move for the Avengers. On the other hand, NDA could be teasing the government security services to overreact with more brute force – a move that will galvanise more hatred and distrust. These are signs of future uncertainty in the region – but how the government reacts will be key to peace or further chaos,” Otto, who is the CEO of UK-based global security provider TGS Intelligence Consultants, continued. “Some prominent ex militants of the Niger Delta region promised hell if their brother, then President Goodluck Jonathan, did not win the 2015 election. We are now seeing those threats manifesting in various shapes and sizes in the South East and South South.” Culled From IBTimes Read More Interesting News @ http://www.buzorpages.com |

What is an ectopic pregnancy? Dr Santamaria says: “An ectopic pregnancy it is a pregnancy that has implanted outside the uterine cavity. This mostly occurs in the fallopian tubes but can also occur in the ovaries, inside the abdominal cavity and even in other locations of the uterus such as cervix or in the uterine wall.” What causes ectopic pregnancies? Dr Santamaria says: “Although causes are not fully known, a dysfunction in the movement of the fallopian tubes, generally caused by a previous infection or inflammation, is one of the most frequent causes.” How are ectopic pregnancies treated? “Ectopic pregnancies must be very carefully surveyed. In some cases, no treatment is needed as the pregnancies will stop with no intervention. However when this doesn’t happen they have to be treated medically or even surgically,” explains Dr Santamaria. “The administration of a drug called Metrotrexate is usually effective to treat ectopic pregnancies. If this medication fails or the pregnancy becomes more developed, or if there is abdominal bleeding due to a rupture of the tubes, surgery is the best form of treatment. In these particular cases, ectopic pregnancies may represent a life-threatening problem and will require an emergency surgical intervention.” Read more @http://www.buzorpages.com/2016/06/what-is-ectopic-pregnancy-causes.html |
Regular marijuana use can make teeth fall out by their thirties, a new study has found. Smoking marijuana for up to 20 years was found to cause gum disease - the leading cause of tooth loss. The study of more than 1,000 people found using the illegal drug for as long as 20 years was linked with the condition. Known medically as periodontal disease, it is a common condition where gums become sore and swollen. It affects the tissues surrounding the teeth which hold them in place, and can eventually cause them to fall out. Gum disease traditionally happens in middle age and is most often caused by a build up of plaque and poor dental hygiene. However, researchers found cannabis use increased the likelihood of it happening by early middle-age. WHAT IS PERIODONTITIS? Gum disease is a very common condition where the gums become swollen, sore or infected. Most adults have gum disease to some degree and most people experience it at least once. It's much less common in children. Symptoms include bleeding gums when brushing the teeth and can lead to bad breath. This early stage of gum disease is known as gingivitis. If gingivitis isn't treated, a condition called periodontitis can develop. This affects more tissues that support teeth and hold them in place. How time flies! One year is gone, just like yesterday! It is a time of stocktaking and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State is stepping out to the village square, his scorecard in his hands, to show himself approved a workman that needs not be ashamed. He has, with every zeal and energy, taken the tide at the flood and it is today clear where the Abia journey is headed. If you take the tide at the flood, as Shakespeare reasoned over 500 years ago, the journey “leads to fortune”. But, omitted, “all the voyage is bound in shallows and in miseries”. In just one year, Ikpeazu has laid solid foundations for a new political culture in Abia State. He has given political power a new meaning as a call to service.http://www.buzorpages.com/2016/06/ikpeazu-workman-and-his-tools.html

There's an easier way though: all iPhones and most Android handsets let you capture a snap simply by pressing the volume controls. There's no need to dislocate your fingers any more. If you're going to catalogue every event and achievement in your life from trying on a new top to simply bossing that #nofilter rainbow photobomb, you're going to want to make sure you're getting the most out of your front-facing camera. Follow these tips and enjoy taking the best solo snaps of all your friends, and whatever you do, don't try take a selfie with a walrus. 1. Face the light Don't fall into the trap of standing with your back to the sun, thinking all that light will help your photo. Unless you're already a serious lens-flare player (see above), it won't, it'll ruin it. Stare into the sun like someone no longer fond of their retinas (don't squint) and use all that natural light to make your face glow. Indoors? Try to position yourself near a window or flattering light source. Not one around? Splash a black-and-white filter on that thing and hide the shadows like a pro. 2. Drop the trout pout You know what duckface rhymes with, right? So stop pouting your lips like a baboon's sphincter: pages of the same face doing the same thing in the same locations is boring. Mix it up – take selfies in a variety of places or when you're doing cool things. And smile every once in a while. People like smiles. 3. Use the rule of thirds A photography classic, but one often overlooked when pointing the camera at your own face. Filling the frame with your gurning mug isn't always the best approach. Imagine a grid splitting your snap into thirds both vertically and horizontally. For a well-constructed snap, try to place the image's impact points the intersection of the lines. Don't clutter one corner or always put the focus in the centre. Use the dimensions you're being offered. 4. Crop the crap As well as building things into your selfie snaps, you can cut things out too. That guy in the background picking his nose, the reflection of another selfie snapper, the more attractive person over your shoulder - they all need to go. Before social sharing, have a bit of a tweak, cut out the unwanted and focus on the desired - like that winning smile. 5. Work the angles See Photos @ http://www.buzorpages.com/2016/05/how-to-take-perfect-selfie-8-tips-to.html |
A draft proposal by Pakistan’s Council of Islamic Ideology has recommended that husbands should be able to beat their wives, as long as they do it “lightly”. CII chairman Muhammad Kahn Sherani told the Express-Tribune newspaper: "If you want her to mend her ways, you should first advise her … If she refuses, stop talking to her … stop sharing a bed with her, and if things do not change, get a bit strict." "A husband should be allowed to lightly beat his wife if she defies his commands"Pakistan's Council of Islamic Ideology A “bit strict,” he clarified, would include “(hitting) her with light things like handkerchief, a hat or a turban, but do not hit her on the face or private parts.” The council’s draft proposal has met with a furious response in Pakistan, including calls for the CII to be disbanded. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan said in a statement: “As much as the HRCP wanted not to dignify with any comment the ridiculous CII recommendations regarding ‘light beating’ of women, the commission thinks it is imperative that every right-respecting person must condemn such counsel unreservedly. The irony of calling the measures women protection should not be lost on anyone.” The Council of Islamic Ideology advises Pakistan’s government and lawmakers on Islamic issues. Its proposals are recommendations, and not legally enforced. The council drafted the controversial proposal in response to The Women's Protection Act, enacted in the province of Punjab in February, which is intended to improve legal protection to women from domestic, psychological and sexual violence. President Muhammadu Buhari has said he is ready to be probed by the various anti-graft agencies over his 2015 campaign fund or any corruption-related allegations. Speaking with some newspaper editors as he marks one year in office, the President also vowed not to spare any one implicated in the $2.1billion arms deals meant for the purchase of arms for military fight against insurgency in the North East. Buhari said, “I don’t know whether I have some official protection. If I don’t have it, why haven’t you started the investigation? I see, very good. But then, it doesn’t extend to all the executives and party leaders and the party leaders are there. “If anybody has received $100 million to give to the party, I think he should be asked to tell us where he got the $100 million. I know those we would eventually successfully prosecute, they wouldn’t leave it, neither will they let their friends leave it. We do not believe if we were so reckless we would get away with it. I don’t believe it. “Do you remember the three and half years when I was in charge of the petroleum ministry, have you forgotten the $2.8 billion (issue)? If you have forgotten, I haven’t. Have you forgotten the PTF (Petroleum Trust Fund)? “In the PTF, at one stage we had more than N53 billion at a time, we planned and spent it. It was investigated subsequently. “So I assure you that I feel perfectly safe. But nobody is perfect, only God is perfect. But let me tell you, from being governor of the six states (the old North Eastern State) which was only for seven months, to the petroleum ministry, to Head of State, and to PTF, I tried not to expose myself, and I hope God will continue to help me. Buhari while commenting on the $2.3billion arms scandal said his administration will not give up the anti-corruption fight. “How can you take $2.1 billion meant to fight insurgency and share among yourselves and think that nothing should happen? Not to talk of when political money is being raised for elections and the Central Bank of Nigeria, NNPC, Customs funds are where the funds are collected from. “We’ve made some progress in recovering this money, which I promised I will tell the nation in the next two or three days, just to show Nigerians that we haven’t given up and have no intention of giving up. We’re giving the people the opportunity of fair trial. “They took the money and paid into some persons’ accounts, and there are signatures of some persons who admitted that they had taken the money. Somebody comes and calls another, saying ‘you’re a member of this party?’ The other person responds by saying ‘yes’. Then, he’s told ‘take a N100 million to go and keep,’ and the other person doesn’t ask any questions. You take a N100 million and disappear, and subsequently you complain that you have received money for doing nothing,” he said. The presidency has listed the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari as he clocks one year in office. A statement released Friday night disclosed that: “The relocation of the Nigerian Military Command Centre to Maiduguri, since May 2015, contributed to the success in the fight against insurgency in the North Eastern part of the country.” •As at February 2016, the total number of persons rescued by the Nigerian troops during the ongoing operations in the North East came to 11,595 •Since December 2015, the well-motivated and rejuvenated Nigerian Military have regained all Nigerian territories previously under Boko Haram control. •Prioritized regional cooperation in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency and violent extremism, through the operations of the 8,500 strong Multi-National Joint Task Force in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, currently headed by a Nigeria military general. •Nigeria has provided $21million USD to the Task Force since June 2015 and is committed to an additional $79 million USD, bringing the total of Nigeria’s commitment to the Task Force to 100 million USD. •Cohesive international support in the fight against terrorism and assistance to victims and communities affected by terrorism, following President Buhari’s meeting with G7 leaders and other world powers. •In May 2016, Nigeria hosted a Regional Security Summit to boost military operations against Boko Haram and forge a global support for the rehabilitation of the IDPs and rebuilding of the North East. •In June 2015, the United States announced a 5-million-dollar support for the fight against the terrorists in the sub-region. • In April 2016, during the visit to Ms Samantha Power, the U.S Ambassador to the UN to Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad, the U.S Government further announced an additional $40 million USD for humanitarian assistance in the sub-region •Recruitment of additional 10,000 persons into the Nigeria Police Force is ongoing. The recruitment will address the manpower gap which currently exists in the Nigeria Police •Overhaul of the dysfunctional topmost hierarchy of the Nigerian military which resulted in optimal result and degradation of the Boko Haram elements. •Was able to bring back our hitherto military allies; which saw the United States and UK governments commit their resources to the fight against the insurgents after previously backing out of negotiations with the previous administration. The Israeli government has also indicated interest in the fight against insurgency. •Introduction of the motor cycle battalion (This is so that the Nigerian Army can travel to remote areas that were not accessible to cars/trucks) •Realigned our partnership with regional allies by embarking on foreign visits which resulted in bilateral and multilateral agreements to tackle insecurity back home. •No more roadblocks and curfews, which normally impeded free flow of movement. •Continuous monitoring of activities in the region of war through the use of satellite images and geographical information system is helping in fighting insurgency and strategizing against the enemy. •The trips to our neighbouring countries showed the resolve of the President to push Boko Haram elements out of existence by going for the jugular of the group, cutting their arms, food supply routes. Support has thus been mobilized through the Multinational Joint Task Force. •Another major stride is the Trans National Organized Crime (TNOC) where the president got partnership with regional allies in the fight against the proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons. •As part of the reconfigured military partnership, the United States donated 24 mine-resistant armoured vehicles (MRAP) which had protected the Nigerian troops from the menace of Improvised Explosive Devices. Today we have less causalities. • Reached out to the G7 countries and achieved the following: intelligence sharing; technical military training; arms deals/donations •Overhauling of NIMASA. A reversed policy of the past administration where national infrastructural assets were given to militia leaders to protect as against established bodies like the Nigerian Navy was stopped. •The President Buhari government has drafted the army to partner with other security agencies in ensuring the security of our national infrastructure and this is already yielding the desired results. •A major ring of pipeline vandals in Lagos state were captured recently in a joint operation by security forces led by the army. •The government has renewed its fight against oil bunkering •The Nigerian Navy has recorded tremendous success lately in apprehending vessels used by oil thieves. This operation has improved security on our water ways and it has also helped improve the revenue of government. •Deployment of sophisticated weapons to ensure vandalism is contained by setting up a pipeline security force in stamping out the menace. NIAMEY, Niger (AP) -- Niger's army has killed at least 10 Boko Haram militants after they tried to attack a military post in the country's southeast near its border with Nigeria. Col. Moustapha Michel Ledru said Saturday that three soldiers were also wounded in fighting in the Diffa region between Niger's military and the Nigeria-based Islamic extremists. He said the Boko Haram fighters retreated after the military fought back, taking arms and ammunition from the extremists. Thousands of people fleeing Boko Haram attacks have fled to the Diffa region in Niger. Boko Haram's nearly seven-year insurgency has killed thousands and displaced millions. The extremists have been launching attacks across Nigeria's borders into Niger, Chad and Cameroon. Those countries are contributing to a multinational force fighting Boko Haram. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Wednesday, commended all the governors of the old eastern region, including Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State for their achievements within the last one year. The leadership of the Ohanaeze Youth Council stated that the Governors deserved commendation for delivering the dividends of democracy to their people since their assumption of office in the last one year. The group further disclosed that after a poll it conducted as part of its democracy day assessment, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state emerged as the overall best performing newly elected Governor in Igboland. The poll, according to them, covered such areas as infrastructures, security, education, health, transparency in governance, youth and women empowerment and participation in government and other vital indices. The chairman of the screening committee of the poll, Mazi Okemiri Alex congratulated all the Governors and noted that all of them were winners in their own respect. He noted that the group will also announce the best performing Igbo lawmaker by June. While extolled other Igbo Governors, the group commended Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state “for personally constructing a befitting Secretariate for Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a rare feat in the annals of Igbo history.” The group also urged the Governors to support the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo led by Chief Gary Igariwey in their bid to pilot the affairs of Ndigbo. They also called for the building of an “IGBO HALL OF FAME AND CENOTAPH” by other Igbo Governors at the Secretariate to complement the effort of Owelle Rochas Okorocha. The group also noted that they had set up an Igbo Vigilant Group, IVG, to tackle the security challenges in Igboland. They called on the governors and other good spirited individuals to support the group. Read more @ http://www.buzorpages.com/2016/05/one-year-in-office-ohanaeze-hails.html

Finally some good news out of Nigeria last week as it was reported that two girls, identified as being part of the 276 schoolgirls abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School in the town of Chibok in April 2014, had been found on May 20th. The first girl found, a nineteen year old, her baby and a man who identified himself as her husband, were discovered in the Sambisa forest near the Cameroon border. More than two years have passed since the girls were kidnapped, and despite the efforts of the Nigerian military as well as those of the viral #BringBackOurGirls movement, it was a lowly group of vigilantes hot on the trail of Boko Haram fighters that found the first Chibok girl. Whilst the government of President Muhammadu Buhari was quick to spin the rescue as a major win for the administration, the truth is that this only shows the chasm separating reality from the lofty rhetoric Buhari had sold to the Nigerian people before being elected to office in May 2015. Indeed, the rescue should serve as a reminder to the rest of the world that Nigeria’s struggle with Boko Haram continues unabated, despite claims made six months ago by Buhari that the group had “technically defeated” – a claim that had more to do with politics than with the reality on the ground. The former general had promised on the campaign trail to root out the terrorist group and be the man to #BringBackOurGirls within six months of taking office. Whilst for some rescuing the girls could be a reason for celebration, the 274 girls that have yet to be found and the 2.5 million people who are still internally displaced because of the conflict are nothing less than a stark wake up call: Nigeria is still very much a country on the brink. Buhari’s failed gambit against Boko Haram When Buhari declared Boko Haram defeated in December 2015, he was riding high on the fact that the group had lost control over a territory the size of Belgium and was reduced to a few strongholds in the rural areas surrounding Sambisa Forest. However, simply reclaiming an area of your country previously held by the enemy should not, by any stretch of the imagination, to be construed as victory on Buhari’s part, particularly when all that was accomplished was the pushing of the terrorist group deep into the wilderness. Just ask the Americans about doing battle with the Viet Cong in the jungles of Vietnam or more recently, the al Qaeda in the mountains of Afghanistan. But this is the yardstick that Buhari has chosen to gauge its successes in this brutal war with the radical Islamic terrorist group, knowing fully well that other markers – such as the number of IDPs, victims or attacks – would have offered a more balanced picture. Indeed, within forty-eights hours of Buhari’s declaration of victory, Boko Haram slaughtered more than fifty people and injured over one hundred others in the cities of Maiduguri and Madagali. The attacks were carried out ISIS-style – with the aid of three young female suicide bombers. What this shows is that the group is regrouping and shifting tactics away from conventional warfare looking at securing territory, to applying asymmetric tactics such as guerrilla warfare. Ever since it declared allegiance to ISIS, Boko Haram has stepped up its cooperation with the Caliphate’s offshoots in Libya. In April, a shipment carrying small caliber weapons, machine guns and rifles to Nigeria was seized near the Chadian border with Libya, leading the senior American military official in Africa to say that the two groups are sharing “tactics, techniques and procedures”. Much like ISIS, Boko Haram has increased its use of child suicide bombers, some as young as eight years old and is behaving more aggressively than before. However, the group’s real strength lies now not in territory but in the ease with which it can capitalize on Nigeria’s extreme levels of poverty, especially in the northeast. Many of the men in the region are uneducated, mired in poverty, with no prospect for gainful employment and are turning to Boko Haram for what they perceive to be a better life. Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei on Monday said the United States cannot “do a damn thing” about the Islamic Republic’s ballistic missile program. “They have engaged in a lot of hue and cry over Iran’s missile capabilities, but they should know that this ballyhoo does not have any influence and they cannot do a damn thing,” Khamenei said, according to the semi-official Fars News Agency. Iran in March tested ballistic missiles, including two with the words “Israel must be wiped off the earth” emblazoned on them, according to the US and other Western powers. Under a nuclear deal signed last year between world powers and Iran, ballistic missile tests are not forbidden outright but are “not consistent” with a United Nations Security Council resolution from July 2015, US officials say. According to the UN decision, “Iran is called upon not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology,” until October 2023. “The US and other powers are extremely sad at this issue and they have no other option; that is why they made huge efforts in order to bring the country’s decision-making and decision-taking centers under their control, but they failed and God willing, they will continue to fail,” Khamanei said on Monday. A state of emergency has been declared in the tomato sector in Kaduna state, northern Nigeria, local media report. A moth called the Tomato Leaf Miner, or Tuta Absoluta, has ravaged 80% of tomato farms, Commissioner of Agriculture Daniel Manzo Maigar said. He said 200 farmers together lost at least 1bn naira ($5.1m; £3.5m) over the past month. The price of a basket of tomatoes has increased from $1.20 less than three months ago to more than $40 today. In Nigeria, officials declare a state of emergency to indicate they are taking drastic action to deal with a problem, the BBC's Muhammad Kabir Muhammad says. In this case the state sent government agricultural officials to Kenya to meet experts on the Tomato Leaf Miner to learn how to deal with the pest. Kaduna is in the north of the country, where according to the UN most tomato production takes place, A tomato paste manufacturing business in northern Kano state owned by Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, suspended production earlier in the month due to the lack of tomatoes, reports Forbes. Tomatoes are a basic part of most Nigerians' diets and the word tomato has trended on Twitter as people discuss the rising price. One of the memes being shared is a tongue-in-cheek look at Nigerian pain over discovering the annual festival in Spain where people throw tomatoes at each other. Francis told the imam: 'The meeting is the message.' It comes five years after the Cairo-based Al-Azhar froze talks with the Vatican to protest comments by then-Pope Benedict XVI. Benedict had demanded greater protection for Christians in Egypt after a New Year's bombing on a Coptic Christian church in Alexandria killed 21 people. Since then, Islamic attacks on Christians in the region have only increased, but the Vatican and Al-Azhar nevertheless sought to rekindle ties, with a Vatican delegation visiting Cairo in February and extending the invitation for el-Tayyib to visit. Francis and el-Tayyib spoke privately for 25 minutes in the pope's private library, bidding each other farewell with an embrace. El-Tayyib and his delegation then had talks with the Vatican cardinal in charge of inter-religious dialogue. The Vatican said the meeting held a 'great significance' for Catholic-Muslim dialogue. In a statement, spokesman the Reverend Federico Lombardi said Francis and el-Tayyib discussed the need for 'authorities and the faithful of the world's great religions to show a common commitment to peace in the world'. They also discussed the rejection of violence and extremism, and the plight of Christians 'in the context of conflicts and tensions in the Mideast and their protection,' the statement said. After the audience, el-Tayyib travels to Paris to open a Muslim-Catholic conference on East-West relations. The Vatican's relations with Islam hit several bumps during Benedict's papacy. He outraged Muslims with a 2006 speech quoting a Byzantine emperor as saying some of the Prophet Muhammad's teachings were 'evil and inhuman'. The subsequent suspension of talks with Al-Azhar institutionalized the bad blood. El-Tayyib, however, sent a message of congratulations to Francis upon his 2013 election and said he hoped for renewed cooperation. Francis responded, and has made clear over the course of his three-year pontificate that relations with Islam are a top priority. In a recent interview with the French Catholic newspaper La Croix, Francis took a conciliatory line toward Islam, saying 'I sometimes dread the tone' when people refer to Europe's 'Christian' roots. 'It is true that the idea of conquest is inherent in the soul of Islam,' he said. But he added that Christianity, too, had its 'triumphalist' undertones. 'It is also possible to interpret the objective in Matthew's Gospel, where Jesus sends his disciples to all nations, in terms of the same idea of conquest.' Outgoing Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has expressed his desire to bring back legendary Cote d’Ivoire striker Didier Drogba, and goalkeeper Petr Cech to the club. The 69-year-old Dutch coach has also confirmed that he’s staying on at the London club after steering the English Premier League giants to a 10th place finish last term. Hiddink will stay back at Stamford Bridge as an adviser where he will focus his energy on promoting youngsters to the senior team, as he did during the final lap of the season. The former Real Madrid and PSV Eindhoven coach was brought in by the Blues for a second stint following the departure of Jose Mourinho in December, after the worst title defence in Premier League history. He recently revealed all, adding that he has talked to both Drogba and Cech about a return to the club where they achieved legendary status. “I have spoken with Didier Drogba. I spoke with Peter Cech. These are legends,” said Hiddink. “They have had much impact here. Once they are really finished their playing career, they can be of great value to the club, such as assistant or scout.” The four-time English champions have been criticised for not promoting enough youngsters coming through their youth system, but Hiddink credits himself with the emergence of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Bertrand Traore this season. Campaigners for the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls in northeastern Nigeria have raised doubts today about the army's report that a second girl from the group of abductees has been rescued. The girl was named by the army as Serah Luka and was claimed to be part of a group of 97 women and children rescued by the army and vigilantes in the Damboa area of Borno state yesterday. It was claimed Serah was the daughter of a Christian pastor and had only been at the school for two months when she was kidnapped by Boko Haram militants, along with 218 of her classmates. However only two girls with the surname Luka were on the list of abducted girls and none was from Madagali, in neighbouring Adamawa state, as the military said the second student had claimed.
