Yesterday it was revealed that high-profile blonde Iranian model Elham Arab appeared before the Iranian Revolutionary Court made a 'voluntary confession' that she had made a 'mistake' and that she regretted becoming a model. She was charged with 'promoting western promiscuity' and forced to give public 'self-criticism.' Diaspora website IranWire first reported the arrests in January, and in addition to Elnaz Gorokh, Hamid Fadaei and Elham Arab, named models Melikaa Zamani, Niloofar Behboudi, Donya Moghadam, Dana Nik, Shabnam Molavi as having been targeted as part of the operation. Most of the Instagram and Facebook profiles of the models have been taken offline, although Ms Golrokh posted a message to her fans via social media on January 30. 'Before anything else, I am sorry that during this time I have not been able to return the calls made by you dear friends,' she said. 'Unfortunately for the moment I will not be active in Iran, but I will continue my work outside Iran. Thanks for your support and your positive energy. I love you.' Fans are said to be widely confused by the arrest of the couple, who are well liked and don't post 'risque' photos - Hamid Fadaei reportedly owns a upmarket women's clothes shop in northern Tehran, which he advertises on his instagram page. The previous Spider operation targeted 'pornography and insulting Islamic sanctity,' officials have said. Inmates should be given iPads and allowed to speak to their families over Skype, a review commissioned by Michael Gove is expected to suggest today. The study into prison education, seen by the Guardian, recommends greater use of 'in-cell technology, such as iPads, so prisoners can learn independently'. The review, conducted by Dame Sally Coates, is due to be published alongside radical reforms which David Cameron has made the centrepiece of the Queen's speech. Its recommendations, extracts of which were seen by The Guardian, come as Mr Cameron announces what he called 'the biggest shake-up of prisons since the Victorian times'. and they include increased use of satellite tags which will mean less prison time for convicts. In a move likely to alarm some on the Tory Right, lower-risk criminals with jobs will only serve jail time at the weekends. During the week, they will be free to carrying on working – if employers agree – to avoid them becoming unemployed and wrecking families. Their movements will be monitored by satellite tags, which have been beset by technology problems, to be trialled initially in eight police areas. A student rally has turned ugly after protesters clashed with police outside one of Australia’s top universities. Students took the streets to stage heated protests against funding cuts to higher education in the Turnbull government’s first budget, including $2 billion cuts to higher education. The protest began peacefully, but scuffles with police broke out along Broadway shopping centre before rally moved onto the University of Technology Sydney.http://www.buzorpages.com/2016/05/students-clash-with-police-in-heated.html

A albino ball python slithered out of a heating duct of a Washington state hospital a month after it escaped when a visitor brought the serpent on a visit to a patient. The visitor was carrying the snake in a cat carrier full of stuffed animals when it was able to make its break for freedom. Staff claimed it is not the first time they found a snake inside the hospital. - See more at: http://www.buzorpages.com/2016/05/omg-white-python-falls-from-ceiling-of.html

A man screaming 'Allahu Akbar' killed one passenger and seriously injured three more after knifing them at a commuter train station in Germany on this morning. The attacker, aged 27, is said to be a young German man and not an asylum seeker as earlier media reports suggested. The male victim, aged 56, died after the random attack at Grafing station not far from Munich earlier this morning and was assaulted as he boarded the carriage. The attacker first knifed a newspaper seller in the back, shortly before 5am. He then struck out at three more victims, aged 43, 55 and 58, before running away. He was caught a few feet from the station entrance and is now in custody after being overpowered at the scene. Of the three surviving victims, one is said to be seriously hurt. Before the attack, the man, who apparently had a history of drug abuse, had taken off his shoes because he believed them to be infested with bugs which he blamed for the blisters on his feet. The federal government on Tuesday reiterated its claim that violent herdsmen fingered for recent killings in farming communities in Benue, Plateau, Enugu and some other states, are not Nigerians. The attackers, regularly reported as Fulani herdsmen, come from outside the country and operate in a way similar to that terrorist group, Boko Haram, according to the minister of state for Agriculture, Sen Heineken Lokpobiri. Vanguard reports that the minister made the assertion while speaking on Tuesday at the public hearing on perennial clashes between herdsmen and farmers organised by the Senate Joint Committees on Agriculture and Rural Development, and National Security and Intelligence. Heineken stated that all persons who have so far been arrested in connection with the attacks on farmers, cannot speak any Fulani or Nigerian language. The inability of the arrested herdsmen to speak Nigerian languages, according to the minister, “gives strong credence to the possibility of the violent herdsmen to be another form of terrorists in the mode of Boko Haram.” The minister also described the perennial conflict between farmers and herdsmen as both a national and regional security. He said the problem faced by herdsmen was also existent in Cote d’Ivoire. Also at the public hearing, Fulani herdsmen, under the aegis of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), rejected the setting up of ranches and supported the establishment of grazing reserves and called on the government to create Ministry for Livestock Development. - See more at: http://www.buzorpages.com/2016/05/arrested-killer-herdsmen-are-like-boko.html |
Global rankings show Nigeria and Afghanistan really are among the world’s most corrupt countries – yet we give them millions of pounds in aid which could actually fuel corruption. Transparency International, an international non-governmental organisation, ranks war-torn Afghanistan as the third worst country in the world for corruption, only better than North Korea and Somalia, while Nigeria is 32nd from bottom. Despite this, Britain gives £237million a year in aid to Nigeria and £198million to Afghanistan, the latest figures show. The total aid spending on the two countries is 35 per cent higher than when David Cameron came to power in 2010. Two years ago, a report from an aid watchdog found that UK aid fuels corruption in Nigeria, with one scheme increasing the likelihood that locals would have to pay backhanders to the police. The Independent Commission For Aid Impact said the Department for International Development (DfID) was not ‘up to the challenge’ of tackling corruption, often because it was concerned about offending local politicians. NIGERIA: CORRUPTION Transparency International’s corruption perception index puts Nigeria at 136 out of 168 countries. Corruption is endemic in Nigeria, with estimates as high as 400billion US dollars lost since it won independence from Britain in 1960. A 2014 study by the Independent Commission For Aid Impact found: ‘Petty corruption touches virtually every aspect of life and is accepted throughout society as normal and necessary. We heard stories of parents paying bribes to teachers to educate their children, workers paying bribes to get jobs and receive their salaries, and pensioners paying bribes to receive pensions.’ It is believed that up to 20billion US dollars have gone missing from the books of the state oil company, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. Millions of dollars meant to be spent on vaccinations and on the fight against ebola have been illegally diverted. Surveys show that the Nigerian police is seen as the most corrupt institution in the country, with people having to pay bribes before officers will agree to help them. BUT HERE ARE THEIR AID GRANTS The UK gave £237million in aid to Nigeria in 2014. More than £1billion has been given to the country since 2010 – despite the fact that it is rich enough to afford a space programme. - See more at: http://www.buzorpages.com/2016/05/yes-they-really-are-as-bad-as-pm.html |
