I’ve been thinking about something that gets said a lot, especially in conversations around money, struggle, and success in Nigeria.

You often hear people say:

“God created some people to never lack.”

It sounds comforting, especially when life is hard. It gives a simple explanation for why things are unequal. But the more you look at real life closely, the more that explanation starts to fall apart.

Because when you look around in places like Nigeria, the differences we see between people are very clear. Some people are born into stability, good education, and access. Others are born into environments where just surviving is already a struggle.

Now the question is, did God deliberately assign all of that at birth?

Or is something else going on?

If we are being honest, a big part of what shapes people’s outcomes is not just divine assignment, but also foundation.

Some people are simply starting from a place where someone before them already laid something down. Maybe it’s land. Maybe it’s education. Maybe it’s a business. Maybe it’s just connections built over time and that advantage did not appear randomly. It was built by effort, decisions, and sometimes sacrifice from earlier generations.

On the other hand, there are people who are also working hard, but they are starting from weaker foundations. Fewer opportunities, less structure, challenging environment and sometimes systems that are already stacked against them. So even if the effort is there, the outcome is slower or harder to see.

In moments like that, people often shift to spiritual explanations. Things like curses, attacks, my village people or “it’s just my destiny.”
This happens especially when someone is trying repeatedly and still not seeing results, it becomes easier to believe there is something beyond the physical blocking them.

But here is where I think we need to be careful.

If we believe in a loving God and that he is faithful and just, then the idea that He deliberately created some people to permanently suffer while others automatically succeed becomes difficult to reconcile. It raises questions that don’t have easy answers.

What makes more sense when we look at reality is that outcomes are shaped more by systems, environment, access, and decisions over time, rather than fixed divine favoritism.

In Nigeria specifically, this is even more obvious because opportunity is not evenly distributed. Where you are born, who you know, and what you are exposed to often has a huge impact on where you end up.

This does not mean prayer or faith is not important and it also does not mean effort does not matter. It just means we should be careful about replacing real-world causes with simple spiritual explanations that stop us from thinking deeper and working towards success.

Because once someone believes “this is just how God made it,” they stop asking questions, stop building, and stop looking for solutions.

But when you start to see that a lot of what we call destiny is actually shaped by structure and choices, your mindset changes. You start focusing more on what can be built, improved, or changed.

At the end of the day, what we are seeing is not random assignment. It is layered outcomes built over time and understanding that changes how you see life, responsibility, and even opportunity.

Bro, this is not about abiding by the South Africa Rules. I have been there before. I am not trying to be disrespectful, but South Africans are Lazy most especially their men. If they secured a decent job, chilling and flexing will eventually take the job from them.

A serious minded business owner wouldn't want to employ someone that will be coming to work 3 times in a week when the immigrants are ready to do 7 days work without minding being pay less.

2 years ago on this forum, when I said the likes of South Africa are using old glory as nothing new in terms of development is going on there, people don't understand.The current development structure in South Africa was laid down by the whites during the apartheid, which development plans have the black South African made or created?

South Africa currently, which sectors can the South Africans generally point out to that's working perfectly in their country? They are just channeling their energy on wrong people.

While I condemn the xenophobic attacks on foreigners, I will want to tell our chest beating brothers too to abide by rules of places they reside in and stop all the crime they get themselves involved with.
If you have not been out of Nigeria, you would say our brothers are innocent of all the allegations.
I have been out of Nigeria, in fact I am presently outside Nigeria. Our chest beating brothers are involved in shaddy businesses which is the root cause of hatred towards Nigerians.

I witnessed it live in 2010 when I travelled to SA.
Majority are into selling drugs and 419 deals. This is a fact.

That apart, when this people make the illegal money, they dont stay quiet. They are loud and they brag about wealth all the time.

Imagine making dirty money and you cant keep your head low.

The same bragging brought the act of installation of a KING in another person's country.

Like I told some guys, there is no KING without a kingdom. The word Kingdom was derived from the word King.

Now, are you saying you are creating a KINGDOM in a foreign land?
Who does that?

Why cant our guys keep their heads low and live life without making noise?

That singular act started all these attacks on Nigerians and other foreign citizens who are innocent and law abiding.

Let us talk to ourselves too.

The federal government has invited Bobby Moroe, the acting high commissioner of South Africa to Nigeria, for a meeting over the recent xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in the former apartheid country.

Kimiebi Ebienfa, director of public affairs at the federal ministry of foreign affairs, said the meeting is scheduled for Monday at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

“The objective of this engagement is to formally convey the Nigerian Government’s profound concern regarding recent events that have the potential to impact the established cordial relations between Nigeria and South Africa,” Ebienfa said in a statement on Saturday.

“Discussions will primarily focus on the ongoing demonstrations by various groups within South Africa and the documented instances of mistreatment of Nigerian citizens and attacks on their businesses.”

Ebienfa noted that the ministry is aware of the growing discontent among Nigerians concerning the treatment of their compatriots in South Africa.

At least two Nigerians have been killed since anti-foreigner tensions started to heighten in South Africa last month.

In the wake of the crisis, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has urged the South African government to prosecute perpetrators of the xenophobic attacks.

Ebienfa said the ministry of foreign affairs implored the Nigerian public to remain calm.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of Nigerian citizens residing in South Africa.

Ghana had also summoned Thando Dalamba, the South African acting high commissioner in the country, over the xenophobic attacks.

Nigerian human rights activists and Politician, Sowore, have opened up about his displeasure with how most people who work in Nigeria earn less than people who don’t actually work.

He explained about the unfortunate snerior in Nigeria whereby most people who work so harf earn less than the people that doesn’t meet to standard.

This he directed to Senators whom he identified to be earning over 30 million monthly while the people that actually works hard earn least of what Senators earn. He described this scenario as one of the disturbing problems most Nigerians face that has so destabilized the economy. He vowed that he ought to stop this by all means as it’s one of the major tolls of the Nigerian economic problem.

His words:

“In this country, the people that are working are the least paid, and the ones who don’t work are the well paid. Let me break it down for you.”

“An average senator in Nigeria earns over ₦30 million per month and only goes to work about 10 times in a month. Sometimes, they don’t even show up at all. But they take home in one month the salary of a worker who has worked for 35 years.”

“An average worker cannot afford to eat, cannot afford to buy medicine, or send their children to school, yet they work every day.”

“The greatest work on our hands now is to drive away the enemies of workers who are occupying positions of power in this country…”

Nigerians couldn’t hold their nerves and reacted massively on all social media platforms according to their views.

As the countdown to 2027 begins, political watchers are asking one simple question: _When will Atiku Abubakar retire from politics and rest?_

Atiku Abubakar will be 80 years old in 2027. He has run for President six times since 1993 and says he is still ready to run again. But many Nigerians say the age and the timing make his ambition unreasonable.

While Nigeria’s Constitution does not set a maximum age for President, it does recognize retirement age in other sectors. The _Public Service Rules_ set 60 years as the mandatory retirement age for civil servants, and 65 years for some categories like judges and university professors.

“The idea of retirement exists in Nigeria for a reason,” the _Youths for Generational Change_ said. “At 60, most Nigerians are told to rest. At 65, judges and professors retire. So why should a man of 80 still be seeking to run the country? Atiku Abubakar should have retired from politics and should be resting, not campaigning.”


Supporters of zoning argue that Atiku Abubakar knows it is the turn of Southern Nigeria to produce the next President of Nigeria according to the unwritten rotation principle between North and South.

“After eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari from the North, and four years of President Bola Tinubu from the South West, equity demands the next President comes from the South East,” the _National Equity Forum_ said.

Even more pointedly, they say it is the turn of the South East region to produce President of Nigeria. “The South East has never produced an elected President since 1966. After the South West, the South, and the North, justice demands the South East gets its chance,” the _Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council_ stated.


Analysts say the demands of the presidency require energy, stamina, and mental agility. “The presidency is not a retirement home,” a political scientist at the University of Abuja said. “At 80, Atiku Abubakar will be governing a country of 170 million people with complex security, economic, and youth challenges. The nation needs a leader who can keep pace with the demands of the office.”

Abuja market traders put it bluntly: “Atiku Abubakar has done his part. He should be resting. He cannot give Nigeria what he doesn’t have. He should let the younger generation, especially from the South East, lead.”


The message from students in Nsukka, market women in Aba, and civil servants in Abuja is the same: Atiku Abubakar should retire from politics and rest.

“When Atiku Abubakar knows it is the turn of Southern Nigeria and the turn of the South East to produce President, why is he still running?” the _South East Youth Assembly_ asked. “It is time for him to retire and support the younger generation.”

Nigerians say 2027 will be decided by age, equity, and the future — not by sentiment. And for many, the answer is clear: Atiku Abubakar should rest, not run.

Lagos State has emerged as the most indebted state in Nigeria. As at the fourth quarter (Q4) 2025, the state is said to be owing a total of N1.22 trillion and $1.17 billion as domestic and external debts respectively.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) which announced this on Monday in its Nigeria’s Q4 2025 domestic and external debt report, said the country’s total debt stock, comprising domestic and external debt, during the quarter rose from N153.29 trillion or $103.94 billion in Q3 2025 to N159.28 trillion ($110.97 billion) in Q4 2025.

The report said this is an increase of 3.90 per cent on a quarter-on-quarter basis.

According to the report, total external debt stood at N74.43 trillion, while total domestic debt was N84.85 trillion in Q4 2025.

The share of external debt (in naira value) to total public debt was 46.73 per cent in Q4 2025, while the share of domestic debt (in naira value) to total public debt stood at 53.27 per cent.

Among the subnationals, Lagos state recorded the highest domestic debt in Q4 2025 with N1.22 trillion, followed by Rivers with N378.81 billion, while Jigawa state recorded the lowest with N1.60 billion, followed by Ondo with N8.42 billion.

Lagos State also recorded the highest external debt over the reference period with $1.17 billion, followed by Kaduna with $684.29 million, while FCT had the lowest with $26.80 million, followed by Zamfara with $41.93 million.

Other heavily indebted states are Bauchi with $220.57 million and N156.05 billion as external and domestic debts respectively; Delta with $63.42 million and N248.83 billion as external and domestic debt respectively, and Enugu with $99.88 million and N157.60 billion as external and domestic debts.

The issue of the rising debt burden has been a course for concern for Nigerians as the debt service obligation is putting high pressure on the country’s revenue.

Early this month, the World Bank warned that the country’s rising debt service costs are reducing its ability to fund critical infrastructure. It noted specifically the sharp drop in capital spending to 1.0 per cent of GDP from 1.3 per cent in 2024 because debt servicing is crowding out investment.

The International Debt Report 2025 noted that Nigeria and other Sub-Saharan African countries must initiate what it call export diversification and fiscal reforms to address their rising debt challenges. It noted that debt levels and servicing burdens continued to rise even as growth remains subdued, underscoring persistent fiscal stress.
