As Nigerians prepare for the Kickstart of the new tax laws, the National Association of Nigerian Students on Wednesday, accused the federal government of ignoring public concerns and constitutional processes, while declaring January 14, 2026, to protest the planned implementation of the controversial law. NANS, in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by its National President, Olushola Oladoja, said it would embark on a peaceful mass protest and march to the Presidential Villa gate in Abuja, with Unity Fountain designated as the convergence point. The students’ body expressed what it described as “profound disappointment and total lack of confidence” in the fiscal and economic advisers to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleging that their counsel was pushing the administration towards an avoidable national confrontation. “The National Association of Nigerian Students expresses its profound disappointment and total lack of confidence in the fiscal and economic advisers surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whose misguided counsel has continued to push the administration toward an avoidable national confrontation over the controversial Tax Reform Law,” the statement read. NANS specifically criticised the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr Zacch Adedeji, describing his handling of engagements around the new tax regime as a failure. “The decision to proceed with implementing the Tax Reform Law from 1 January, 2026, is not only unfortunate but a dangerous precedence for a government that claims commitment to participatory reforms and democratic values.” “Nigeria is a constitutional democracy, not a dictatorship. No policy, no matter how well intentioned, can be forcefully implemented without the consent and confidence of the majority of the people,” the statement said. Declaring the planned protest, the students’ body said, “It is against this backdrop that NANS declares Tuesday, 14th January 2026, as a National Day of Action against the implementation of the controversial Tax Reform Law.” “As the NANS President, I, therefore, call on all NANS structures — campus chapters, state joints, zonal coordinators, and the national secretariat — to commence immediate and massive mobilisation for a peaceful mass protest and match to the Presidential Villa Gate in Abuja on the said date,” he added. The tragic news surrounding Anthony Joshua’s car wreck, where two friends and teammates lost their lives, forces us to confront the uncomfortable truth that many road deaths are not inevitable acts of fate. They are often the result of silence, hesitation, and a collective failure to exercise the simplest form of human control available inside every moving vehicle. Inside every car, beyond airbags, brakes, and seatbelts, there exists a basic, human safety mechanism that is too often ignored: Your voice! Speaking up these two magic words—“Slow down!” Slow down when said firmly, calmly, and repeatedly when necessary, can be the difference between life and death. A tyre advert once asked a timeless question: “What good is speed without control?” That question should echo in every vehicle, especially when speed begins to outrun judgment. Silence Is Not Neutral Too many passengers treat speed as the driver’s private business. They scroll on their phones, laugh through the ride, or resign themselves to fate. Yet silence in the face of danger is not neutrality my people, it is surrender. I know this personally. I have been called a coward by friends and co-travellers. Some drivers mock me as “Mr Fear Fear” or “Oga Worry Worry.” Yet each time I say, “Slow down,” I am exercising the only power I have in that moment: the power to value life over ego. More often than not, drivers obey. And when they do not, I stop the vehicle and step out. Is that simple. No journey is worth gambling my life on pride or speed. In this country with poor road infrastructure, faded markings, potholes, and unlit highways, speed multiplies danger. Add to that: • Careless drivers who park on roadsides without warning signs • Even police men jumping out of the darkness at night with no reflectors • Drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs • Fatigue, distraction, and overconfidence Against all these menaces, “Slow down” becomes a shield, your first line of defense, It is not weakness. It is wisdom. No amount of celebrity status, physical strength, wealth, or confidence can negotiate with physics. At high speed, reaction time shrinks. Control disappears. Consequences become irreversible. Especially to a Generation That Lives Fast This message is particularly urgent for today’s culture of high-speed living—celebrities, influencers, athletes, and young people raised on adrenaline, applause, and instant gratification. Speed has become a symbol of success. Caution is mistaken for fear. But real power is not in how fast you move. It is in knowing when to slow down. True courage is speaking up when everyone else stays quiet. True friendship is not cheering recklessness, but interrupting it. True masculinity, leadership, and maturity are shown in restraint. We Must Take Charge of Our Lives Every passenger has a duty—not just to themselves, but to everyone in that vehicle. Watching the speedometer is not interference. It is participation in survival. If you are inside a car and you see danger approaching, your voice matters. If you can say “Slow down,” and you do not, that silence may haunt you forever. We cannot fix all roads overnight. We cannot control every driver on the highway. But we can control one thing: our willingness to speak up and say “Slow Down. Two simple words. A basic human act. A lifesaving habit. What good is speed without control? |
Mali and Burkina Faso have announced travel restrictions on American nationals in a tit-for-tat move following the United States’ decision to include both countries on a no-entry list. The two West African states were recently placed under full entry restrictions under US President Donald Trump's expanded travel ban. In response, both countries said they would apply the same measures to US nationals. According to the BBC, Burkina Faso's Foreign Affairs Minister Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré explained that his government was acting on the "principle of reciprocity", while Mali's foreign ministry emphasized the need for "mutual respect and sovereign equality". Mali further expressed regret over the US's action, noting that "such an important decision was made without any prior consultation". The move by Mali and Burkina Faso follows a similar travel ban on US citizens announced by neighbouring Niger earlier this week. All three countries are currently ruled by military juntas that seized power in recent coups. In recent years, the three states have formed their own regional bloc and shifted towards Russia as relations with other West African nations and Western powers have become strained. Earlier in December, SaharaReporters reported that the United States government has suspended the processing of all immigration applications from 19 countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, raising fears of prolonged legal limbo for thousands of prospective immigrants. President Donald Trump's administration defended the decision, citing national security concerns following an attack on National Guard members in Washington last week. An Afghan national was arrested as a suspect. Under the new policy, all applicants from the affected countries must undergo a comprehensive vetting process, AFP reports. The administration did not specify how long the pause will last or whether additional nations could be added. Several of the countries on the list were already under partial travel bans. Countries facing the most severe restrictions include Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that President Donald Trump issued a sharply worded Thanksgiving message calling for an immediate and permanent halt to immigration from what he described as “all Third World Countries,” while criticising current U.S. immigration policies and political leaders. SeverusSnape:According to Donald Trump' but that's not the truth. Americans are thought not to say bad things about their country,no matter how bad things are but Nigerians carries and talk negatively about their country. Nigerians need re-orientation |
When Princess Diana and her lover Dodi Fayed Died in a car crash in paris in 1997, France did not happen to her and her Lover. When Kobe Bryant and his daughter died in Helicopter crash in California in January 2020, America did not happen to him and his daughter. When Herbert Wigwe, his Wife, his Son and his friend died in a helicopter crash in California in February 2024, America did not happen to them. When Liverpool Football star Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silver lost their lives in a car crash in July this year in Spain, Spain did not happen to them. But when accident happens in Nigeria, that's when some Nigerians will start denigrating Nigeria. Ehenn! Nigeria has happened to them yen yen yen... The accident involving Anthony Joshua in which he lost 2 of his friends in very unfortunate, I wish him quick recovery and may God rest the souls of those that lost their lives and give their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. The Bottomline is, accident can happen anywhere and anytime. It has Nothing to do with Nigeria or the location. Nigeria is the BEST Country in the World. May God bless Nigeria and Every Lover of Nigeria. |

Skyfornia:Mutual funds is better |
Skyfornia:Mutual Funds vs. Fixed Deposit (FD) Mutual funds are funds that are managed by a professional fund manager. A mutual fund is a collection of money from many investors, who pool their money to invest in stocks, bonds, or other assets. Fixed deposits (FDs), on the other hand, are funds deposited in a bank for a fixed period of time. An investor can earn greater returns on his money by investing in mutual funds as compared to FDs because they offer higher interest rates than FDs do. Equity mutual funds have higher risk and are better suited for investors with a high risk appetite as compared to debt mutual funds which have a lower risk but may not generate as much ROI. As an investor’s risk profile changes over time, it is advisable that they switch between equity and debt-based investment strategies to get the best returns without jeopardizing their capital base too much. Which option suits your needs? It is important to understand this difference between mutual funds and fixed deposits (FD) before deciding which one suits your needs. FDs have a fixed tenure and you cannot withdraw your money before the maturity date. This means that if you invest in an FD for 1 year, then need the cash after 6 months, you will not be able to withdraw it prematurely (without penalties). Mutual funds have a flexible tenure and you can withdraw your money anytime without penalty or tax implication. Who should invest in mutual funds? If you are a person investing for the long term, and are willing to take risks, then mutual funds are the best option. If you want to diversify your portfolio and get better returns, then mutual funds are the best option. Mutual funds allow investors to invest in stocks and bonds and have exposure across equity and debt markets through one investment instrument. |
