Japan for example has a declining populaiton because not enough children are being born, because many people are saying the same thing you are saying, only they then come to the conclusion that marrying is not for them. As a result, they have too few young people, and therefore not enough workers to pay the taxes that are needed to fund welfare for all and pensions for the old. Which means that japan is borrowing money and at a rate that scares even the USA.

China's own is bad too. Population is not only getting old, but at least 30 million men per generation may never find wives because the one child policy basically led to families preferring boys over girls, which led to a massive issue with their gender ratio. Far more boys being born than girls. China reversed the thing some years ago, but the damage has been done.

If not for mass immigration, European countries would be in the same shoes. ditto canada. And the USA...part of why some people are opposed to trump deporting illegal immigrants (Trump is doing the right thing to deport them though, he has made many bad decisions, but deporting ilegals is not one of them, but the US has a populaton issue too).

Nigeria's problem is that thanks to many wrong decisons, we do not have a large enough productive economy to absorb the large masses of young kids that are born. We can change that, but APC does not want to do the needful, and sadly also, most nigerians. Na to share oil money, that is all we do.

My conclusion is that the problem itself is capitalism , specifically inflation

Yeah, but the harsh truth is that health care, quality healthcare is expensive.

One can get quality healthcare in the UK for example, but UK citizens and residents pay exorbitant taxes for the thing...infact UK tax can chop incomes before other things come in. USA own is even worse. You will pay a large chunk of your salary in health insurance, and then you fall sick and even after your insurance pays, your remaining cost would force you to beg for money via gofundme in real life.

The problem is, the cost of research and machinery is very high. It costs a lot of money to keep an MRI machine running for example, ya need constant light to begin with among other things. If Nigeria somehow managed to build 5 teaching hospitals that are like the African center of medical excellence in Abuja per state, the MRI cost would chop a large segment of the budget. Housekeeping costs of a hospital is another matter. I mop the floor of my house at best twice a week. Hospital where i work, it is 3-4 times a day. IMagine the cost.

If we want quality healthcare, e go cost money. A lot of money. Sane poor countries like Cuba invest in preventive medicine, which helps, but not by much.

It is interesting that many West African countries are now leaving the WACS exams for Nigerian medics to write while they go for their own country's board qualification exams.

Ghana have one of the strongest center for the WACS while some doctors here even go to do their part-2 fellowship exams even @ exorbitant cost even when UCH Ibadan is also @ handy.


So what does this tells about us as a nation? It simply shows how bad our nation's leadership takes the wellbeing of its healthcare workers.

Imagine many still desperate to leave Nigeria write these expensive exams just to have broader opportunity of practicing in the sub-regional countries since US, UK, Canadian and other immigration routes are increasingly becoming difficult. Who do us this evil?
