Following the success release of the Covibes Top 10 Nigerian producers for May, we decided to go through the entire process just for your pleasure. toil through data in June to understand the trending producers. Our Method Just like last month’s edition, data is the basis on which the list is compiled. We noted the standing of each . The reason we use Boomplay is because they release an official monthly chart. While Apple releases its Nigeria Top 100, it’s a daily release. Spotify does not have an official Top Nigerian list (no, surprise there). While there are playlists that cater to Nigerian music, they are user-generated and the method is not verifiable. Highlights - The usual culprits made June’s Top 10 producers. Take a guess and you would be right. - Very little is known about the producers in the gospel industry. After much digging, one of the producers made the list. He is the genius behind some of Mercy Chinwo’s hit songs. - We had new entrants as well on our top 10 list - As you would expect, there was a slight reshuffle in this edition. Some dropped off, others switched locations and others stood their ground. <p> Without further ado, here they are and the songs that got them on the list; Pheelz — Energy, Wait & See, Scatter, High On Life, Need You , Gbas Gbos , What If I say — Fireboy DML and Billionaire — Teni Rexxie — His roster includes newly released Okoto by Broda Shaggi and already released Aye, Dibo Lobo, Soapy, Tesumole and Pxta — Naira Marley and Anybody — Burna Boy DJ Coublon — New entrant — Aii, Boys are Bad, Tempted to Steal and Ada all by Kizz Daniel Israel Dammy — You’ve probably never heard of him but he’s earned a place on our list. He is an in-house producer with Eezee concepts, the label Mercy Chinwo is signed on. He has been instrumental in the release of Obinasom, Akamdinelu and Omekannaya all by Mercy Chinwo Oscar — Duduke, Joromi and Complete Me all by Simi. P.Priime — Isolate ft DJ Neptune — Teni, Unripe Pawpaw — Zlatan, and the song we all love Like I do — Fireboy DML. Dera — Baby and Call by Joeboy Omah Lay — His debut EP Get Layd has seen him rise in the industry. He is the first African artist to be highlighted by the Africa Rising initiative launched by Apple Music. He is a singer/songwriter and producer. The songs that put him on the list are Bad Influence, and Lo Lo. Beats by KO — Don’t Call Me Back and All for You by Joeboy Cracker Mallo — Feel, Jealous by Fireboy DML and Wonma by Olamide Source: https://medium.com/@covibeshq/covibes-top-10-nigerian-producers-june-2020-b9e461b75609

Here are the first 4. What We Noticed Some producers don’t take their brand seriously by insisting they are credited for their work. Loophole We didn’t consider the number of streams each song has across all major streaming platforms, partly because of its public unavailability. We will work on this in the coming series. What do you think? Source: https://medium.com/@covibeshq/covibes-top-10-nigerian-music-producers-may-2020-ad753dfa3914

For the first time, Covibes is releasing the list of top popping Nigerian producers purely based on data. Yes data. We combed through Boomplay Charts to understand the most listened to songs, the ranking on the chart, the producers behind them, and the number of appearances each producer made. We mixed all these together to bring you the Top 10 producers for May. Enjoy!!!

Picture this for a minute, you have the next hit song in your head and you just can't wait to show the world what you're made of. They're not ready. They wont know what hit them!!! But just before you hit the studio, here are key things you need to do and look out for. The studio is where it all begins, if things are messed up there, there's not much the world's best mixing and mastering engineer can do. Without further ado, here they are; 1. Write and Rehearse your song at least 10 times - Often times, we over-rely on our creative muse and assume once you hear the beats, everything would align. No be so o. Write something down or better still, record snippets with your phone. There's the part where you display your creativity and freestyle but having a foundation to work with is as important. Nothing is more frustrating to a producer or an engineer than an artist who isn't well prepared. Let's also not forget the extra hours and money you will spend because you're just not ready 2. Listen to previous projects - Don't get carried away by the aesthetics of the studio, its cooling units and fantastic furniture. Focus on the sound output. Studios have their specialties regardless of what they may tell you, so confirm the producer in charge has produced songs that you either admire or like. 3. Compatibility Issues - If you have any recording done at your home studio that you intend to use, make sure to confirm it is compatible with the studio. Some studios may not have the same plugins you use. 4. Think about signing a legal document - While this may not be common in these parts, it is important to sign legal documents. A legal document stating the scope of work as well as the royalty assigned (if any) to all the participants is important. This is referred to as a Split Sheet. It guarantees everyone gets compensated fairly for their work from the income generated from the music. Keep these in mind and you would be better prepared to drop that fire track we won't get tired of. |
