Please gurus in the house ..help me look into my new proposed transcript

VO: what has changed on your profile??
Me: I added my current school which means I’m in one of the Nigerian university
VO: what do you study in that university??
Me:: philosophy
VO: why do you want to change from philosophy to liberal studies??
Me: I desired been a public relations specialist and having a university degree in liberal studies will help me in terms of disputes settlement.. peace making, peace building in individual and in the nation at large..
It will also help me in terms on impacting some ethical knowledge on most of Nigerians which are chaotic and people who keeps bad company for the betterment of the society..
VO: how many schools did you choose??
Me: I chose 3 schools
VO: can you mention them??
Me: CSU, ISU and DCC
VO: can you give me some reasons why you chose these schools among others??
Me: they all give a wide range of knowledge about liberal arts among other schools.. like CSU has a play square in downtown which is the second largest in the American district which allows liberal studies and some other social sciences course have some basic education apart from learning in the classroom.. so also ISU has Stephens auditorium which helps provide extra first hand knowledge apart from the one gained in the classroom
CSU Maxine Goodman college also helps the liberal arts students in terms of excursions field trip and lots of researches.. so also ISU also get support from two other universities in Ames and Des Moines in terms of researches ..

the problem with some of your answers sounds so abstract ........... Find the jobs that relate to Liberal arts and build up from there......It might make it clearer to understand what your dreams and aspirations are . For example (when i search for liberal arts job) my dream is to be a Public relations specialist or Policy Analyst or Management Personnel and a bsc in Liberal arts would give me the skills in order to XXXX in peace keeping, disputes settlement, peace building in individual and in the nation at large.

Also with this statement . my present school could not offer liberal arts ........a Vo can ask if your school doesnt , there are a million other schools in Nigeria . why have you not tried the rest . So that statement my present school might not be a good way to start that response

Interview is subjective, in the sense that what sounds ok in one ears , might not sound ok in another . So the prayer / hope is that it would sound favorable in ones ears

Note that there is nothing wrong in desiring studying abroad, as long as you (or your parents) can afford it.

Me: my present school could not offer liberal arts as a course of study which I’ve desired to study all my life..my present school could only offer classroom education which education is far more than that.. we have little exposure to wide range of knowledge apart from the classroom.. the administrative processing is kind of slow due to low employees..
VO: why don’t include your present school in your Ds-160 at first??
Me: I thought it was not needed due to the fact that I was admitted base on my high school transcripts and results..
VO: what are your plans after graduation??
Me: I intend coming back to Nigeria and work with the law enforcement agencies.. the police department to be precise..

Ok. I'll be fair to you and analyze your transcript and explain where you goofed.

1. You said you chose 3 schools, you didn't.
2. When he asked you to compare the schools you chose, you were supposed to do just that... COMPARE. (Your failure here made the VO think you didn't apply to more than the school you kept talking about)
3. You were asked WHY did you choose liberal arts? You tried to define Liberal arts and talk about it but failed to say WHY YOU chose to study it.
4. HOW will this program help you? Again, you only told him what you'd be going back home to do. NOTHING related to how the program was going to add anything of value to you.

General conclusion: FROM YOUR TRANSCRIPT, you need to work on understanding a question before answering it. Know what information someone wants from you and work on providing ONLY that information. Take a 3-5 second pause to understand a question before you speak. When in doubt, ask the interviewer to repeat the question or ask "what do you mean?"

It's better to not answer something at all and let an interviewer think you're not good enough, than to open your mouth, say the wrong things and remove all doubt.

U will be ask and u have to state it there. And wen u are ask u will say it the way it is there on the ds-160

its not on Ds-160 number of schools applied for..

you probably dont want to hear this .........but at 400 level , it is better to finish and then apply as a master student than hustling tuition for a whole 4 more years .

America is not an easy fix , and life there is not always a smooth journey

I so much appreciate your concern.. but it’s not easy to follow.. you have to also consider the fact that I have spent a lot of money and much of effort to get to this place..so I can’t follow your advice... I’m sure life in America is not smooth and easy but we should always pray that God should give us the best

Helping him to handle his documents triggering your interest sounds kinda weak a reason to me. I mean you've not been really involved in the professional aspect of it. I'd rather you find a more convincing reason. But if there is none, I guess you will have to modify it a little more and be confident when defending while you've chosen liberal arts. Wish u luck!

I didnt ask you to LIE. All i am saying here is to only answer what you asked correctly and they wont ask you any questions thats not included in your DS-160. If they ask you how many institutions did you apply to, simple tell them the correct answer and if they ask what have you been doing since your high school , kindly tell them where you have been working and have a document to back it up.

I only have the option of telling them I’m in one of the Nigerian university with a back up of results.. but I never included it on my Ds-160.. hope that will not be red flagged because there is a column that asked for previous school in Ds-160..

If they know this can be a RED Flag.. So its best to shed the information as long as you have a strong case to show you finish or havent been to a university in Nigeria. Manipulation is good sometimes as long as you can prove your points.

Can I say that I have been assisting my uncle in office who is a legal solicitor..
I help him handle his documents then which triggers me to know more about settling disputes and making peace.. which also is the main reasons for choosing liberal studies because it helps in peace keeping and peace building..

There is no need to becoz I am not sure he has been following this thread. I think where he had it mix up was wen he said he only applied to one school. The vo here will feel the is not a serious student applying to one school because even USA citizen apply to more than one school...so that is my take and I stand to be corrected.

does ds-160 shows the number of schools applied for or we have to say it verbally
