Abuja — President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said that the if the current security challenges in the country were external, the country would have been embarrased because of the inadequacy of the nation's security forces in tackling the emerging terrorist threat.

Speaking yesterday at the national praise and thanks giving service held at the Banquet Hall of the presidential villa, Abuja, President Jonathan said the challenge has rather assisted Nigeria to improve on its security apparatus.[still some ways to go, no doubt]

According to him, before the emergence of the crisis, most of the nation's security agencies were relaxed and had little to offer. [still do ]

According to the president, the heads of the various agencies have had cause to evolve new strategies in meeting up with the menace.

"Assuming the challenges we are having were from outside, we would have been embarrassed" he said.

"Sometimes, these things happen to strengthen our collective fate and make us more effective to start thinking of building more capacity" he added.

President Jonathan explained that yesterday's praise worship ceremony was quite remarkable for him adding that with such prayers and commitment on the part of government, Nigeria will move forward.

The President noted that it was with the same spirit that he met with Super Eagles in Addis Ababa where he challenged them to win the match against the Ethiopian team.

"I told them that they must win match and lead the country to the world cup. At least to show to the world that even with the prevailing challenges we can still perform".

The ceremony which lasted for about two hours was attended by renowned world artistes and gospel singers including kurt Carr and Judy Jacobs of United States of America,

It was also attended by Senate President David Mark and his deputy, Ike Ikweremadu, governor of Abia state Theodore Orji and deputy governor of Anambra state.

This is another "sing-along" statement, not unlike the "giant of africa" story - a sing-along without any substantive foundation. Instead of working on what damaged the image of the country in the first place, Naai-geria prefers sing-alongs. You seem to have missed the bolded bit. Beeeeeg if! Given that there are no signs of stability at this point in time, your post is a bit overly optimistic.

I agree with the good judge. Naai-geria does have everything. Therefore, the problem is only on the mental side. Surely? How else does one explain the failure of a country that has everything? It's a mental developmental issue, no doubt. It's the "great people" that can't make it work.

Get to work. Fix the basics. Take care of your social issues; and then do "sing-alongs".
