The rise in violence by Boko Haram in the last couple of weeks since it was claimed by the Nigerian Army that its leader, Abubakar Shekau, had been killed, could be true afterall. The violence shows that there is a new leader at the helm of affairs who is out to stamp his authority on the evil group.
When one looks at the history of terror in the world, when a new leader comes on board, he usually starts with a campaign of terror to announce his ‘assumption’ of office, and this has been the case since it became public knowledge that Shekau had been killed a couple of months ago.
However, I want the Federal Government of Nigeria to enlist the help of the United States of America in the war against Boko Haram. The US has the necessary military equipment which it can assist the country with. The spying drones, which are capable of carrying warheads, will be useful in this situation.
It is a known fact that it will be difficult for Nigerian soldiers to master the rocky terrains in Borno, where members of Boko Haram are now believed to be hiding. However, the drones will help the military attack these terrorists, while minimising its own casualties.
A couple of years ago, the Nigerian government sent a satellite into space. The Chinese-built satellite, which cost hundreds of millions of dollars, it was claimed, would help the country map out certain areas where it would be difficult of humans to go.
Unfortunately, till date, we have not really had any instance when we can say the satellite has been useful. Last year, we had a terrible flood disaster in some parts of the country, but the satellite was not able to give us images of affected areas which were cut off.
Again, it is said that members of the Boko Haram are holed up in some mountains in Borno State; the satellite could have been useful in this regards, by passing the necessary information across to the military on the exact location of the terrorists, but this is not the case. Should we now say that we built the satellite just for the fun of it?
I, therefore, want the authorities in charge of the satellite to tell Nigerians its usefulness, and why it was so important that we sent one to space at a cost of millions of dollars.
However, before we know the usefulness of Nigeria’s satellite in space, I think the Federal Government should just call the United States to assist it in tackling the menace of Boko Haram.
The president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, cannot continue to say the military is winning the war when people are still being killed on a daily basis. It seems the members of the Civillian JTF are now the targets of the terrorists, with the way they are being attacked . The Federal Government should quickly ask for help, and as far as I know, there is no harm in asking

The Boko Haram issue is more of a Policing item than a military matter. They only cowardly go about killing civilians using civilian appearances! The military engageed them and dislodged them and have held ground since the SoE declaration. That's a strong military for you! We do not retreat. Boko Haram has retreated, evaporated and gone underground across nearby Camerounian territory! The work to be done here is in intelligence gathering and civilian/regular police action! Military intelligence is at work, that's why the Army has largely succeeded! Help yourself now!
