PoliticsRe: Opobo Is Igbo Land Deal With It by Crazybeard: 1:40am On Nov 26, 2023
Ruke1989:
You cannot tell the history of a people for them. The opobo governor and people of opobo says they are ijaw but to satisfy your ego, you say no they must be igbo. I know it's hard for you to understand that language is learned and because we all speak English doesn't make us British citizens.

I am from orogun town in delta state. In orogun, we speak ukwani, urhobo and some understand isoko. Some orogun people like myself speak ukwani (adulterated igbo dialect) but do not speak urhobo. How is this possible?

1) intermarriages: two generations backward, it was a taboo for orogun people to marry from within orogun. It was considered incest. I didn't know this history but through an observation. I asked my maternal grandmother now in her 80s that why did most grannies of their time marry to women or men from igbo speaking towns. She told me it was considered incest and was a taboo to marry from our town orogun if you are orogun, so they all marry from the neighboring towns which speak urhobo, isoko and ukwani so as not to break a taboo. The taboo was lifted by a king that emerged in her time making it possible for her to marry from orogun. Because of the intermarriages, urhobo was becoming an extinct language in orogun (an urhobo town)
2) proximity to the ukwani, isoko and urhobo meant they traded in these three languages, married from those communities. South South people are more open minded and embrace people of other cultures, learn other cultures than the igbo, Yoruba and hausa. That doesn't mean they have lost their biological makeup (DNA) just because they welcome and assimilate other cultures. Ijaw people treats their slaves/domestic servants as freeborn having equal right as children born into a home. That's why jaja of opobo, a slave boy could rise to become king of opobo. In contrast, igbos from Anambra deny igbos of ebonyi any right because they are seen as slaves by birth. Igbos are unable to comprehend how south south minority tribes assimilate other cultures because they view the whole thing from their igbo mindset whereby people are discriminated against of they are considered slave or even if seen as non igbo
This comment deserves a thousand likes.

There is officially no unified Ijaw ethnic group in Rivers State just like only Oyigbo and Egbema are counted as Igbos in Rivers State which is why Ikwerre is considered largest ethnic group followed by Ogoni . However on a broader scale the riverine ethnic groups though each distinct are part of the Ijaw nation just like most upland are part of Igbo nation besides Ogoni, Engenni and Abua/Odual. Officially Eleme isn't part of Ogoni but on a broader scale falls under Ogoni nation.
I wonder what you mean by “officially no unified Ijaw ethnic group “.The Ijaws have always been unified. You seem to be confusing a clan with an ethnic group.

Ijaw is an ethnic group with over 16 clans. Each clan with its dialects but similar culture across the ethnic group. Each clan would understand themselves reasonably if the spoke their local dialect with each other, unlike some other ethnic group that need a central dialect to communicate. An Arogbo in Ondo would understand a Kalabari in Rivers or Mein in Bayelsa .

It’s that simple

The people living earlier in Opobo were mostly Ibibio and Igbos blending into a mix but Jaja came with other Ibani Chiefs as well as Igbo slaves that moved to Opobo with him. If you visit Opobo today the footprints of everything is very clear. Opobo is an extension of Ibani from Bonny but then more Igbo and Ibibio bloods are there if a DNA test is carried out.

No one should take this unknown entity with an Abuja address serious. The letter can even come from someone in Osun State.

Ijaw Ethnic nationality has an able representation in IYC and INC. If we do not hear from these two groups then forget it.

I can as well stay in Chokocho and send out a letter that all Rivers are Igbo in likewise manner.

Nna men is doing a great job. He was in Okehi sometime ago to preach his message of uniting our people with the greater Igbo population of South East. He was well received by our youths.

I watch his videos once in a while and I have not seen him going outside Igboid communities and ethnicities to lure than for unity. He speaks the central Igbo language and try to show people the similarities of their Language and culture with other Igbo ethinicities.

I really do not see where this is coming. This action by our friend from Ogbomosho would only make him and his message more popular.
You are as delusional as they come. You and your ilks are stoking an ethnic conflict with your idiocy. The warning has gone out,it’s best you adhere.

We actually place less emphasis on certificates.
Especially for leadership position
The present leader's lack of proper education is still showing in his leadership of the country
Buhari's problem isn't that he has no certificate, the man is just dull.

For 30yrs he didn't develop himself. Even when in the army, Buhari wasn't seen as one of the smart officers.

Today another section is making a demi God out of Tinubu and Obi, tagging them saviours and life changers, some gullible youths are all out saying they need young people, Sowore is there and young.
Do you think we are in a country that will scrutinize candidates devoid of emotions?
It's not done anywhere, candidates will always attract emotions.
Some people will pull a crowd to follow a candidate because that candidate helped them some time ago.
Buhari was a failure in his first tenure, the first time he ruled with Tunde Idiagbon, Idiagbon did alot, but it was all attributed to Buhari, today he looks like he lacks direction, a leader who can't win elections until a merger was brought to him?
The negative pointers are all out on the whole presidential candidates, just like it was with Buhari, but people are ready to kill for Tinubu and Obi today, you can't get what you are wishing for here.
Well...what more can I say.All you've said are plain truths.
As an undecided voter,I thought I could get someone here to convince me really. Not one of the candidates have fully convinced me.

Accountability starts from your LG area to the federal level, how much accountability and good governance have you demanded from you Local and State Governments?
When I see people from states like Benue, Kogi and some sh*tty states clamouring and all about how it is time to change the narrative by voting Obi, I begin to wonder if they have common sense, how good is their State government?
Demand good governance from your state government before thinking about federal government, else no change at federal level will solve the problems of the common man in that state.
Well...I agree with you,but your response is a deviation from my initial question.

I'm talking about scrutiny of electoral candidates devoid of all emotions.

Some sections of Nigeria made a demigod out of Buhari and see where we find ourselves today.

For me Atiku has a well thought out plan, the downside is that he has no integrity and has too many lackeys and hangers-on around him, which is where I admire Obi.Obi seem to have the integrity and prudence Nigeria needs at this time.I'm just not convinced about him plans and implementation. It's not enough to just identify the problems.

I think young people should ask questions and not be swayed by emotions. Nigeria can not afford to make another Buhari. Let's not make any excuses for our preferred candidates. Support them, at the same time ask them questions; hold them accountable.

I listened to Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party on Sunrise Daily, a Channels television breakfast program. I must state here that I have my reservations about his grasp of Nigeria's problems, and his ability to proffer solutions. He deflected a lot of the questions put to him and wasn't convincing with his responses.

Yeah, he is "only" a vice presidential candidate. But then, my thinking is that the vice president of any country should be as sound as the president, if not better.

I may be wrong though. What are your thoughts?

I'm curious.

GOD BLESS OKPOGHO PEOPLE IN EZEAGU LGA OF ENUGU STATE - THE RED GOLD OF AFRICA!!!!!!

Okpogho an ancient city of Igbo land, is an iron- smelting community in Ezeagu Lga that gave West Africa the first metallic currency known as Okpogho Manila.

The innovation of this ancient metallic currency-ego igwe/ona was attributed to a great wawa man from the present Ezeagu Igbudu LGA. The name Okpogho which is the Efik fishermen's term for money or brass was given to this wawa iron maker; when people noticed that those precious bangles which he fashioned for his daughter Mgbolie could be used as a means of exchange of goods and services.

The early Portuguese explorers of the 1470s observed that copper bangles "okpogho Manila" were the principle money all along the West Africa coast.

The people of Okpogho will dig iron out of the ground and melt copper out of the stones to make a okpogho bangle. Through this process, the first metallic currency was introduced.

Thus, the ancient monetization of the precolonial Ezeagu economy by Okpogho people brought international trade to Ezeagu area earlier than the 15th century.

Since Okpogho Manila became the means of exchange, marketing activities took place among Ezeagu communities themselves and went to far countries like Mali, Cameroon, Burundi and Congo where Okpogho Manila had sphere of influence. In its inception, these bangle or Okpogho were predominantly made from copper as copper was referred to as " THE RED GOLD OF AFRICA ".

The name Manila is derived from Spanish for a bracelet manella, the Portuguese for hand-ring or after the Latin Manu's(hand) or from monilia, plural of monile(necklace).

God bless HRH Igwe Apostle Chimereze Linus Pius!

God bless Chief Christian Chris Okpoko Isiakwu 1 of Okpogho!

God bless ESD all over the world!
