A Catholic priest of Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Tom-Ave Omiunu, said this at an interfaith dialogue workshop organised by

In addition, he urged the youths to desist from being tools in the hands of politicians.

“If the youths decide that they will not follow these leaders, and will speak with one mind as young
people, they will surely be part of the movement that will bring lasting peace to our country, ” Fr. Omiunu added.

The priest, who insisted that no
religion preaches violence also asserted since Nigerians are very religious, the country should be the most peaceful and developed country in the world.

An Islamic scholar, Faisal Umar, who spoke at the forum, also urged Nigerians to move beyond religious tolerance to religious understanding.

He said: “When you talk of religious tolerance, are you saying if given an opportunity you would
want to push away the other religions or you intend to respect
the value that the other religions stand for?”

Crime / Man Charged With First Degree Murder For Killing His 5 Babies by Crownfitsme2019(m): 12:59pm On Jan 29, 2020
Man Charged With First Degree Murder For Killing His 5 Babies
Few Months After Birth

An American man has been arrested and charged with the cold-case slayings of five babies, all his own and none of them older than 6 months.

Paul Perez, 57, is accused of killing the babies from 1992 to
2001, and he was charged with five counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances that
could make him eligible for capital
punishment, officials said.

He was arrested on Monday after new DNA technology helped investigators reopen a cold case
from 2007, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office said in a press
release.

Thanks to new DNA technology, authorities were able to identify a deceased infant found by a
fisherman in March 2007 in a sealed container weighed down with “heavy objects” as Nikko Le
Perez, authorities said.

The identification of Nikko finally came in October 2019, and led
investigators to discover that Nikko had four siblings, who were all also killed when they were less
than six months old, the sheriff’s office said.

The siblings, all born in California were identified as Kato Allen
Perez, born in 1992 and known to be deceased; Mika Alena Perez, born in 1995; Nikko Lee Perez, born in 1997; and Kato Krow Perez, born in 2001. The remains
of the last three infants are still unknown, People reports.

Perez has been identified as the
father of all five children, but it is still unclear whether they have the same mother, authorities said.

“While I am proud of the efforts of my investigators and coroner’s office, this is not a day that will
bring joy to any one of us,” Sheri Tom Lopez said in a statement.

“In my 40 years in law
enforcement, I cannot think of a case more disturbing than this
one,” Lopez added. “There can be no victim more vulnerable and innocent than an infant, and unfortunately this case involves five.”

“The allegations announced today
are heartbreaking. There is absolutely no place in our society for horrendous crimes against children,” California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said in a statement.

Father Ties Up Daughter To Ceiling, Sets Fire To Her Private Part For Stealing N3,000

The Oyo State Command of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have arrested a couple who allegedly tied their 10-year-old daughter
Abibat, to a ceiling, burning her private part for stealing the sum of N3,000.

The father of the girl, Taofeek Olawale 41, an indigene of Ede,
Osun State, said he was only trying to scare her with the fire as deterrence when the fire burnt her
private part.

Parading the suspect and his wife Romoke, on Monday in Ibadan,
the commandant of the (NSCDC) Isikilu Akinsanya told journalists that the arrest was part of the
responsibility of the Anti-human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit of the NSCDC to save and
protect the lives and property of Nigerians, as enshrined in the
2003 Act, amended 2007.

The Commandant, who was represented at the press conference by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluwole Olusegun, alleged that Olawale, carpenter residing in the Amuloko area of Ibadan and his wife tortured their daughter, Abibat, by tying the girl’s hand to the ceiling and putting fire under her until she
confessed to the accusation of stealing N3,000 belonging to a
neighbour, Rukayat Trimisiyu.

He further said that in the search for the money, the sum of N600 was found in Abibat’s bag, and
the girl later brought the remaining N2,400 from where it was hidden in the house.

The NSCDC boss said Abibat was still recovering in the hospital from damage she suffered from the
burns her father inflicted on her.

Olawale told journalists he was
only attempting to scare his daughter and teach her some morals.

“It is the devil that is at work,” he said.

Romoke dissociated herself from the assault, saying she divorced from Olawale seven years ago and was somewhere else when she heard about the incident.

Court To Hear Suit Against DSS, Buhari’s Daughter Feb 12 Over Sim Card

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of a Federal High Court sitting in
Asaba, Delta State, has fixed February 12, 2020, for the hearing of a suit filed by a trader, Anthony
Okolie, against the Department of State Services and the daughter of the President, Hanan Buhari.

Okolie’s lawyer, Tope Akinyode, who is also the National President
of Revolutionary Lawyer’s Forum,
told The PUNCH on Tuesday that the matter would be coming up next month.

“The case has been assigned to Justice Nnamdi Dimgba and it will come up on February 12, 2020,”
he said.

Recall that Okolie had sued the DSS and Hanan as well as service Providers, MTN, jointly and separately for N500m.

The suit, with number FHC/ASB/CS/3/2020, is seeking an order to
“compel the respondents (DSS, Hanan and MTN) jointly or severally to pay the applicant the
sum of N500,000,000 only as general and aggravated damage
for the gross and unlawful violation of the applicant’s right to
acquire moveable properties, freedom of movement and self-dignity”.

The PUNCH had reported that the 33-year-old man said in a
supporting affidavit that he was arrested on July 19, 2019, in
Asaba, Delta State for using a telephone line that was previously owned by Hanan.

According to him, he remained in custody, bound by handcuffs till
September 22, 2019, as the DSS waited for Hanan, who was
schooling in the United Kingdom, to come clear him but she never did.

Okolie also attached the receipt he was issued after purchasing the SIM card as well as the SIM certificate.

The affidavit read in part, “That of December 8, 2019 at
Ogbeogonogo Market, Nebu Road, Asaba, Delta State, I purchased a SIM card with Phone Number: 09035666662 at the sum of N1000 only and I received a SIM pack with accompanying documents as a result as evidence of purchase receipt.
“That in line with relevant regulations, I approached a kit operator of the 3rd respondent (MTN) named Jeff who captured my biometric and registered the
SIM card in my name and on my behalf.

“That in July 2019, I visited my business associate at his residence in Asaba and saw him being taken away by officers of the 1st respondent (DSS). During the process, they obtained information from him on who he communicated with last over the phone and my associated
announced that it was me.

“That immediately afterwards, officers of the 1st respondent
(DSS) arrested me and led me into their vehicle asking me to
keep quiet and drove me to their offices in Asaba, Delta, State.

“That after a while, they disclose that my arrest was ordered by the Presidency and I had to be taken to Abuja for further interrogation upon which basis they drove me to Abuja, FCT by road the
following day.”

The applicant stated that he explained to the DSS how he bought the SIM card but he was informed that the phone line
which is linked to his SIM card was once used by Hanan.

“They thereafter labelled me a criminal for using a phone line that previously belonged to the 2nd
respondent (Hanan Buhari),” he said.
Okolie alleged that because of the personality involved, his case file was tagged, ‘first family’ and he was denied access to his lawyers

Tenant Sleeping With
Landlord’s Wife In Ibadan Learns The Hard Way…See
What Happened

A 50-year old landlord living in Amuloko area, Ibadan, Oyo State who was arrested and arraigned
by the Police, has pleaded guilty before the Court for killing his own tenant for allegedly sleeping with
his wife whenever he is not around.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the landlord claimed that Raja, as the deceased is popularly called, has been secretly sleeping with his wife. However, the wife claimed that Raja was only showing her sexual favour because her husband usually travels for several weeks without touching her.
The deceased, who was reported missing on the 27th November,
2019, by family and friends, was found in a nearby bush in the
same residential area. Residents of the area reported a bad smell
in the region to local Police authority, which led them to thoroughly search the bush where
the body was eventually found with several machete wounds.

Medical reports equally confirmed
that the late Raja died from profuse bleeding.
Thereafter, the Police intelligence team commenced a rigorous two weeks investigation and fact
finding. The wife of the landlord confessed willingly that her husband could have been the culprit.
When asked why she suspected him, she revealed that the tenant has been offering her sexual
favours since the husband is usually not available and always
travelling on business trips.

The representative of the Police told the public that they swung
into action after getting this information and made enquiries from other tenants. It was gathered that a thorough search of the landlord’s bedroom helped to find out what could have been the weapon he used.

The man was arrested and further interrogation revealed that he planned on killing the tenant after
he allegedly caught him with his wife at a hotel, where they usually meet.

He pleaded that he did not intend to kill the deceased on the fateful day but Raja got violent and he
had to defend himself, which led to his death.

Nigerians Currently Poorer, Unhappy, Lost Faith In Govt – Oyegun Cries Out

John Oyegun, former National Chairman of the All Progressives
Congress, APC, has lamented that Nigeria was currently not
working.
Oyegun maintained that Nigerian were increasingly becoming
unhappy with the state of things.

Speaking at the 17th edition of the Daily Trust Dialogue in Abuja, Oyegun lamented that the Federal Governmemt was not addressing
what was making “people poorer and unhappy.”
The APC Chairman, however, admitted that Nigeria has been
growing in the last 20 years.

Oyegun said: “I borrow from what the former governor of Borno State (Kashim Shettima) said. He
passionately appealed that we must try to make Nigeria work.
“Why is Nigeria not working? At the risk of being misinterpreted, let me make the point that we
have been growing in those 20 years, every year and with every
administration.

“I dare to even say that there is hardly a single administration in
those 20 years that has not left office unpopular and unheralded.
“We have never asked ourselves the question why are our people getting increasingly unhappy with their governors within those 20 years.

“Why are they getting poorer, why are they losing hope, those are
the questions I think pose a threat to our democracy because today we are beginning to hear
rumblings that we didn’t hear before.”

Vietnam Court Sentences Yahoo-Yahoo Boy And Two Others To 49 years In Prison
A Nigerian man and two Cameroonians will spend 15-18 years in jail for cheating two
Vietnamese women to the tune of more than VND1.5 billion ($65,800).
The internet fraudsters used Facebook to defraud the unsuspecting victims. Nigerian Ifeanyi Matthew Anthony, 29, and Cameroonians Nguyen Hang Tcheuko Minh, 36, and Mothe De Fouda Paul Martial, 30, were sentenced to jail by the Can Tho People’s Court in southern Vietnam on Thursday, January 16, for “obtaining property by fraud” The three men joined a group of African fraudsters, apparently led by a man called Papa, who contacted women on
Facebook and cheated them through various schemes. One
scheme was to ask Vietnamese women to receive and hold large
sums of money to be given to members of the group when they
arrive to live in Vietnam. The women would be given 10 percel of the money for their trouble.
However, they would have to pay “customs fees” first in order to
receive the money. Another scheme was to advertise a $100,000 solution that could be used to make money with blank paper. The three defendants tricked a woman from Can Tho and another from the central province of Phu Yen between December 2017 and April 2018.
They conned more than VND1 billion from the Can Tho resident and VND528 million from the one
in Phu Yen. Minh and Martial were arrested by Can Tho police on April 6, 2018. Anthony was arrested shortly after. Minh was footballer who acquired Vietnamese citizenship in 2013
and played for V League in 2015. While Minh admitted to his
crime, Anthony and Martial said they were only following Papa’s
instructions. Finding all three defendants guilty, the court sentenced Minh to 16 years in prison, Anthony 18 years and
Martial 15 years respectively.

Drama As Man Challenges His Ex-wife To Sword Fight To Settle Legal Disputes

A 40-year-old American man identified as David Ostrom has asked his ex-wife to a sword fight to settle their legal dispute,
TheGuardian reports.

The unusual request stemmed from his feelings of frustration with his ex-wife’s lawyer Matthew Hudson.

Ostrom filed a court suit asking a judge for a duel by sword with his former wife, 38-year-old Bridgette Ostrom or someone she elects to fight as her champion.
In his filing, he says she can use her lawyer as a ‘stand-in fighter’ to battle him.
He told the Des Moines Register
that he was inspired by a case in 2016 when New York Supreme Court Justice Philip Minardo admitted that duels had not been abolished.

In his filing, he says his wife had ‘destroyed [him] legally’. and he wants the judge to let the parties ‘resolve our disputes on the field of battle, legally’, as trial by combat ‘has never been explicitly banned or restricted as a right in these United States’.

He is also asking the judge to rule for a 12 weeks time to allow him to find or make Japanese samur swords as he does not have the swords yet.
Ostrom who is from Paola in Kansas said he wanted to settle things ‘on the field of battle where (he) will rend their souls from their corporal bodies’.
Mr Hudson filed a response by first correcting the spelling of the original motion, saying: “Surely (Ostrom) meant ‘corporeal’ bodies which Merriam Webster defines as having, consisting of, or relating to, a physical material body. ‘Although (Ostrom) and potential combatant do have soul to be rended, they respectfully request that the court not order this done.”
he said, adding: ‘I think I’ve met Mr Hudson’s absurdity with my own absurdity.’

Ostrom admitted that there is an error with the spelling but denied having issues with his mental health after Hudson asked that he be made to undergo psychologic treatment.

Iowa District Court has not yet ruled on the motions.

A 35-year-old woman, Stella Olowofoyekun, was, on Friday, remanded in a correctional centre by a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing her neighbour to death with a broken bottle.

The defendant, who is a petty trader, is facing a count charge of murder, but her plea was not taken. Chief Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere, ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi Correctional Center, Lagos, pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). Oghere, thereafter, adjourned the case till March 24.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence at 11.30 pm. at Mati Community, Snake Island, Apapa area of Lagos.

She said that the defendant had stabbed her neighbour, Mr Monday Bella, to death with a broken bottle because he was playfully touching her. According to Olaluwoye, the deceased was touching the defendant on her waist, but she kept telling him to stop but he refused.

She told the court that the situation escalated into a serious banter, which led to the defendant picking up a broken bottle and stabbing him in the neck. She said that other neighbours rushed the deceased to a hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 222 and punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised). The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 223 stipulates death penalty for the offence of murder. (NAN)

2020 UTME: JAMB Arrests e-PIN Agent For Extortion of Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Tuesday, arrested some agents of one of the online payment services for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), for allegedly charging above the approved cost by the Board. This was disclosed by JAMB’s Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin, while monitoring the ongoing UTME/Direct Entry (DE) registration in Bwari, Abuja.
According to him, the agents, who worked for Unified Payments Services (UPS), charged some candidates the sum of N4,500, as against the approved cost of N4,000, for the registration.
He described this as unfortunate and disappointing as the board prior to the commencement of the
registration has a meeting with the accredited vendors and agreed that out of the N3,500 generated for each e-pin, they have a N210 commission.
He said the board, based on the Federal Government’s directive
decided to sell the forms for nothing more than N4,000;
N3,500 for e-pin and N500 for the English reading text.
“We pointed this out to vendors that it was a presidential directive
so that Nigerians are not exploit and we are ready to protect this.
“For any agent to sell above the approved price is unlawful and unacceptable; as we speak now, United Payments Service has been suspended from the sale of the 2020 UTME/Direct Entry (DE) forms,” Benjamin said.

Benjamin also said that the board had set out a team of investigators across all its centres nationwide to fish out those who perpetrate acts that were contrary to the rules and regulations of the board.
He also said that any bank or selling outlet that sells N1 above the approved price would be suspended and whatever deposit they had with JAMB would be confiscated.
Benjamin also advised candidate against registering from public
examination tutorial teachers as they were not accredited vendors
of the board. Whoever registers with them, he said, would be disqualified from sitting for the examinations.

He, however, explained that the
agents, who were caught in the act, had been asked to return the extra N500 they charged to the candidates and had since been handed over to the Police for further investigation.
