Education / Over 1.7m JAMB Candidates: SEE Why Many Will Not Get Their UTME 2017 Results by currenthealthti: 4:15pm On May 27, 2017 |
JAMB candidates for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) 2017 have been given some news– According to JAMB registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, many of the candidates will not get their results because they were caught cheating He said many were caught cheating by the CCTV cameras planted in the exam centres, see more details below. www.jamb.org.ng On Thursday, May 25, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced that they would not release the results of candidates identified in footages of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) to have indulged in unwholesome practices during the just- concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Ishaq Oloyede the JAMB registrar, while speaking on Channels Television, said they were busy reviewing recorded footages of the examination across the country, and that a number of candidates will be punished. Speaking about those yet to receive their results, he said: “Those who have not received (their results) are qualified not to receive for now. In all cases where there were no problems, we released results of the examination within 24 hours. “But those who have not (received their results), they may not be culpable but we are investigating. Where we have reason to doubt anything or where we have report of anything that is not acceptable to us, we have withheld the results. “And we will keep on releasing them as we clear them. For instance, this morning, we released another 15,000 results. But among those who sat in that centre, we have reasons, concrete evidence to say about 300 of them, their results will not be released because we know they were not in the hall where the examination took place. “We are comparing those who sat for the examination, how long they sat in the hall, and how some of them took excuses that they were going to the toilet only to go to what they called VIP. “All this we are now able to track. And we want to say that we will not hesitate to sanction anybody no matter how highly placed.” He also appealed to credible organisations and individuals to come forward to partner JAMB in the establishment of reputable CBT centres across the country. Health / Home Remedies For Conjunctivitis (pink Eye) by currenthealthti: 10:53am On Mar 20, 2017 |
Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is a very common infection of the eye that is highly contagious, but also relatively easy to treat, particularly with home remedies, including the use of eye drops, green tea, turmeric, aloe vera gel, neem oil, lemon juice and garlic, among others. Click here to read more on Conjunctivitis Aloe Vera Gel Components in aloe vera gel, such as aloin and amodin, have antibacterial and antiviral properties. The soothing nature of aloe vera gel can quickly relieve inflammation caused by conjunctivitis, while the immune-boosting properties of the gel help to clear out the infection and speed up healing (1). Simply dab a tissue or washcloth in aloe vera gel and gently apply it on the eyelid and around the affected eye for best results. Turmeric Turmeric is packed with immune-boosting antiviral compounds which help in healing and reducing inflammation. It also has antibacterial properties and can relieve pink eye symptoms when used topically. Add two tablespoons of turmeric powder to one cup of boiled water. Soak a clean cotton pad or washcloth in the mixture and use it as a warm compress over the affected eye. Green Tea Green tea is packed with antioxidants and bioflavonoids, and this in turn makes this beverage perfect for different health conditions. For treatment of conjunctivitis, simply steep a green tea bag and place it on the infected eye once it’s cool enough. Or make a cup of green tea and soak a clean washcloth in it to create a warm compress on the affected area. This can effectively eliminate the infection and reduce inflammation and pain. Garlic Garlic is one of the most sort after plant product worldwide due to its massive health benefits, and their impact on pink eye is just as impressive as for many other ailments. The active ingredient in garlic, allicin, has proven antioxidant, antiviral, anti-fungal and antibacterial properties, making it an ideal treatment for conjunctivitis. For Conjunctivitis treatment, you can slice a garlic clove, allowing the juice to come out, and then rub it directly on the top of the infected eyelid. This can quickly relieve the burning sensation and prevent the infection from spreading. Neem Oil Neem oil relieves irritated skin with its soothing and gentle properties. It also has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial components that can relieve the symptoms of conjunctivitis. Apply a small amount of neem oil around the eye and eyelid before going to sleep for pink eye relief. Eye Drops For certain types of conjunctivitis, such as those caused by allergens or irritants, simply flushing out your eye with warm water can be an important first step to eliminating the problem. If the tear ducts aren’t working properly, due to inflammation, then you need to use eye drops to stimulate more tear production and physically flush out whatever is bothering the conjunctiva (2). Wash Your Hands One of the best things you can do to protect yourself from getting infected or spreading conjunctivitis to others is to wash your hands frequently, and avoid touching or rubbing your eyes after coming in contact with other people (3). They don’t necessarily need to be displaying symptoms to be contagious; essentially, just be wary of when and why you touch your eyes. Lemon Juice Lemon is well known for its antibacterial and antiseptic properties. For conjunctivitis, mix lemon juice with a small amount of water and then apply it with a washcloth or in the form of a compress. Citric acid can be very powerful, however, so be careful not to put lemon juice directly in the eye; placing it around the affected tissue will be sufficient for treatment of conjunctivitis. Word of Caution Although there are a vast number of home remedies for conjunctivitis, the underlying causes may need a professional attention especially cases involving STDs. When you notice these symptoms, visit a medical professional, and then use these home remedies as a complementary treatment, after discussing your options with a doctor. If these symptoms are seen in infants, immediately see a doctor, as this infection in infants can result in vision loss or permanent damage to the eyes. Health / Home Remedies For Kidney Stone by currenthealthti: 11:56am On Mar 10, 2017 |
The kidneys are one of the most important organs in the human body. The kidneys help to detoxify and filter impurities from the blood, as well as waste products from your urine. Kidney stones form when the kidneys are not able to process toxins efficiently. Specifically, a crystallization of unprocessed minerals builds up. Kidney stones cause pain and possible blockage of urine flow. Kidney Stones Kidney stones are a very common health problem. Affecting around 10% of the population of the world and most common in men between the ages of 30 and 40, kidney stones are a painful and often recurring issue that can last for weeks at a time. Kidney Stones are formed when high levels of chemicals in urine such as calcium, sodium, uric acid (the same stuff that causes gout flare-ups), or other crystal-forming substances build up in the urine to levels which the body cannot properly eliminate. These substances gather and chemically bond to each other forming a stone inside the organ. Some kidney stones are very small and may be passed out in the urine with minimal or no symptoms. Others may grow quite large and eventually become lodged in the opening of the urethra – the tube that allows urine to pass from each kidney to the bladder. At this point the stones cause pain, frequent urge to urinate, nausea, vomiting, and excessive sweating among other things. If you have never suffered the pain of kidney stones, you should count yourself lucky, but these small, hard mineral deposits that build up in your kidney are not something to be taken lightly. The most notable effect of a kidney stone is a sharp pain in the back and side, in the space below the ribs, but that will spread to pain in the groin and lower abdomen, often coming in waves, particularly while urinating. Very often, kidney stones will cause the urge to urinate very frequently, but only a small amount of urine will be produced, and the process is often painful, with the urine being cloudy, pink, red or brown, accompanied with a foul smell. Kidney stones can also cause nausea or vomiting in some people, particularly if there is an underlying infection causing the build-up of stones. Unfortunately, there aren’t many formal treatments, and most doctors will suggest drinking large amounts of water and taking pain medication until the stone passes. That being said, there are some effective home remedies that can help break down kidney stones so they can pass more easily, or be dissolved entirely. Possible Symptoms of Kidney Stones People suffering from kidney stone pass through excruciating pain in their lifetime. Some of the most common signs and symptoms of kidney stones include the following Sudden, severe pain that comes and goes in intensity. Common areas afflicted include the back, groin, abdomen, side, and genitals. Nausea and vomiting Blood in the urine or abnormal urine colors Frequent and painful urination Though kidney stones are not normally life-threatening situations, they are typically truly uncomfortable situations. And it’s not unusual to experience so much pain that you make your way to the emergency room to find out what is going on. Home Remedies for Kidney Stones Kidney stones can be a painful and annoying medical condition, and while there are formal treatments, there are also a number of home remedies for kidney stones, including the use of apple cider vinegar, pomegranate juice, additional hydration, kidney beans, magnesium, watermelon, basil, and a low-salt diet. Hydration One of the most basic causes of kidney stones is dehydration. It’s always a good idea to drink lots of water. Essentially, when there isn’t enough water in the body, the urine becomes more concentrated with minerals and other substances that urine usually excretes. As those minerals calcify and bind together, they form stones that are harder to move through the ureter. However, when you have kidney stones or if you think that you might be susceptible to them, it’s absolutely critical to keep adequate fluids running through your system in order to flush out the minerals and other substances that cause stones to form. Apple Cider Vinegar The highly astringent properties of this common natural remedy can make it much harder for kidney stones to develop. Apple Cider Vinegar is an effective remedy for a long list of ailments, including kidney stones. In addition, it is believed that apple cider vinegar helps in the prevention of kidney stones to begin with by alkalizing the effect on blood and urine and promoting the production of hydrochloric acid in the body to prevent the formation of kidney stones. Not only will ACV help to break apart and flush out stones, regular consumption of around 2 tablespoons per day can help to prevent future occurrences. Try an apple cider vinegar few times a day to reap the health benefits of this incredible natural remedy and get rid of your kidney stones at the same time. Pomegranate Juice Both the seeds and juice of pomegranates have astringent properties that can help in the treatment of kidney stones. The antioxidants and natural astringent properties of this fruit can help to break up kidney stones when these nutrients reach the kidney, and prevent high oxalate levels in the body. Drinking one glass each day should be a good preventative measure for the stones’ development. Watermelon Watermelon is a great way to treat kidney stones composed of calcium and magnesium phosphates and carbonates. The potassium present in watermelon is an essential ingredient for healthy kidneys. It helps regulate and maintain the acid level in urine. People often forget that watermelon is more than a delicious summer snack, and is almost entirely made of water, which makes it a great fruit for hydration. Kidney Beans Although their name is based on their shape, they also have healing potential for kidney stones. An effective urinary home remedy for kidney stones, traditionally the pods were used as a medicinal tonic. All legumes, in fact, have high levels of insoluble fiber, which can bind calcium in the stool, rather than letting it pass into the urinary system. Try removing the beans from inside the pods, and then boil the pods in purified hot water for six hours. This liquid can be strained through cheese cloth, cooled and taken throughout the day for one day to ease kidney stone pain. Basil This ancient herbal remedy has long been considered a tonic for the kidneys, and specifically for mineral deposition, it helps the kidney to excrete these materials early in their formation, so they are smaller and thus less painful to pass through the ureter. Basil tea can be taken throughout the day for overall kidney health. If you have kidney stones, try taking one teaspoon each of basil juice with raw honey daily for up to six months. It’s believed that folk remedies with pure basil juice can help induce stone expulsion from the urinary tract. Magnesium One of the commonalities between people who suffer from kidney stones is a deficiency in magnesium. Studies show that people with recurrent kidney stones who took magnesium supplements had a 92.3% improvement rate in reduction of kidney stones. 300 mg of magnesium orotate is recommended daily for prevention and reduction of stones. Some foods with high magnesium content include; spinach, fish, nuts, avocados, beans etc. Reduce Salt Intake Reduce your salt intake. Salt has water retention property, leading to bloating and edema (swelling of body parts). This also implies that water is not moving through to the kidney thereby making the urine to be highly concentrated.
