Vanier graduate Scholarship programme is Valued at $50,000 per year for three years during doctoral studies. Considers three equally weighted selection criteria: Academic Excellence, Research Potential, and Leadership

The Government of Canada launched the Vanier CGS program in 2008 to strengthen Canada's ability to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning. Vanier Scholars demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and/or engineering, and health.

Students wishing to apply for a Vanier CGS must do so through the Canadian institution to which they are applying for doctoral studies. Based on their quotas, Canadian institutions will forward a limited number of nominations to the Vanier CGS program.

Up to 166 Vanier Scholars are awarded each year and are divided among the three federal granting agencies, who each offer 55 awards annually. The additional award is rotated annually between NSERC and CIHR.

The Vanier-Banting Secretariat, which is housed within CIHR, is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the program.

Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) in the Department of Science and Innovation invite graduates to fully funded Internship Programme for a period of one year with the organisation


This Internship programme for graduates was previously managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF), but has been moved to the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). Over the 15 years it was led by the NRF, the programme enabled over 6 000 young people to access internship opportunities, and the HSRC hopes to build on this impressive work.

The Internship Programme, intended to bridge the gap between academic study and competent performance in the workplace, places unemployed graduates in science, engineering and technology disciplines, as well as in the humanities and social sciences, at various research performing or research policy institutions.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Should be currently unemployed and 35 years of age or younger at the time of submitting the application;

A graduate holding any of the following:

NQF Level 7: Bachelor's, Advanced Diploma, or B-Tech Degree;

NQF Level 8: Bachelor's Hons Degree, and Postgraduate Diploma;

NQF Level 9: Master's Degree or M-Tech.

Hold a qualification in Science, Engineering and Technology, Research, Development, Innovation, Social

REMUNERATION

The DSI-HSRC Internship will provide interns with a monthly salary depending on the level of qualification for the duration of the two-year period:

Bachelors: R 6,375 per month

Honours: R 7,055 per month

Masters: R 8,375 per month

Over the next three years, the Internship Programme will focus on strengthening the transversal skills and capabilities of the interns, giving them a competitive advantage when entering the labour market, and supporting the growth of mentoring capabilities, particularly in the context of remote work becoming a mainstream phenomenon. The intention is to expand the reach of the Programme to include a greater number of interns and host institutions in the national system of innovation.

The Human Resources Management Department (HRMD) is one of four departments that fall under the Management Policy, Strategy and Corporate Services (MPSCS) Division. The three other departments are: (i) The Financial and Administrative Management Department (FAMD); (ii) the Humanitarian Services and Supply Chain Management Department (HSSCMD); and (iii) the Global Services Centre (GSC) in Budapest (Hungary).

This role is based in the Programs and Policy Unit of HRMD. It reports directly to the Senior Officer Learning Platform Administration.

Job Purpose

The current IFRC Onboarding programme requires redesign and redevelopment to ensure relevance to needs, a strong introduction to IFRC and the Movement, as applicable, as well as alignment with Strategy 2030.

It needs to strike a balance between providing the appropriate information and resources to new staff, including information to help adjust to a new professional setting and  new living conditions. The Office of the Secretary General (OSG) requested the Human Resources Management Department (HRMD) to revise the current program to capture the above criteria.

Interview Stage

Applicants who receive positive feedbacks shall have a virtual interview with a United Nations assessment representative. Within 48-72 hours, the interview result should be disclosed.

AAUW Career Development Grants provide funding to women who hold a bachelor’s degree and are preparing to advance or change careers or re-enter the workforce in education, health and medical sciences, or social sciences.


Primary consideration is given to women of color and women pursuing their first advanced degree or credentials in nontraditional fields.

Applicants must been a person whose last degree was received before June 30, 2014. Funds are available for tuition, fees, books, supplies, local transportation and dependent care.

AAUW originally designed Career Development Grants in 1972 to offer “encouragement” funding to AAUW members seeking to renew or resume academic work for credit toward career or employment advancement.

Today, grants support course work beyond a bachelor’s degree, including a master’s degree, second bachelor’s degree, certification program or specialized training in technical or professional fields.

Course work must be taken at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States or at a technical school that is fully licensed or accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. Funds are not available for doctorate-level work.

Individuals can nominate themselves or be nominated by someone who can accurately describe their development work; and

Winners must agree to take part in publicity generated by the Commonwealth.

Awards will be decided on the basis of:

Level of Impact;

Level of innovation/fresh approaches to problem solving;

Quality of achievement;

Quality of the evidence provided; and

Sustainability.

Awards Process

There will be four finalists for each Commonwealth region with the top entries receiving the Regional Winner Award. The top Regional Winner will receive the Pan-Commonwealth Award and be named the Commonwealth Young Person of the Year 2022.

The 20 Regional Finalists will each receive a £1,000 grant, a trophy and a certificate.

The 5 Regional Winners will receive an additional £2,000 (a total of £3,000) a trophy and a certificate.
