The large alarm sounded at around 3am the next day. The young soldiers knew what that sound meant. The alarm sounded every 3am of the day. The sound was loud enough to wake the dead in his grave. However, as every soldier reluctantly stood erect on his leg, Jason inclusive, Mike was still snoring. Although Jason had known Fox to be a heavy sleeper who takes a lot to wake, he was surprised that he was not moved by the mighty alarm.

Jason gave him two heavy slaps that brought him awake. He knew tapping him was ineffectual and if the wicked lieutenant caught him sleeping after the alarm had sounded, he would be highly be punished..
"what the hell! Are you crazy?" mike said, now standing on his feet.

"you are welcome buddy" Jason gave nonchalant smile.

"Don't ever slap me again! ".

"you say that every morning"

"I mean can't I sleep to my satisfaction again?, " mike said yawning.

"Ofcourse you can, maybe if you didn't hack the government's system in the US, perhaps you will still be in your bed snoring like a bull"

"may be I should have hacked your brain and program it to mind its own business" mike gave a riposte.

'I wish you could ", Jason laughed" perhaps, I wouldn't have been on of the unfortunate that will wash those smelly clothes for a week.And may be you would have been the one who had faced that python bastard and I would have mind my own business while you skull was being shot opened".

Mike was silent, he knew his friend had sacrificed himself for his sake, he knew if Jason had left him the previous day, he could have been the last person and could have been the one shot by Thai young.
He slowly moved towards the only person he considered a friend and said "Thank you Jason, I owe you my life".

There was an awkward silence between the two friends, jason was happy that after many years filled with Diabolical experiences, he had found friendliness in someone..

"Ofcourse you do, afterall you are my boy", Jason said breaking the heated silence.

"Bleep you Jay!", Mike gave him a friendly punch..

Soon, the lieutenant was in, he stood majestically on a flat topped table as he spoke into a device he held, his voice was heard by every soul in the camp.


"Attention soldiers!, here is another day, you all know the normal activities. However, I'm not here today because of that. Last week, twenty men joined in and till now they dont have their sobriquets", he stopped and examined the faces of the young men whose eyes were wide opened, Mike inclusive. There was absolute tranquility in the room. They knew nothing good had ever come out of lieutenant's mouth, whenever he made an announcement, someone would die,and they dared not question him....

"You have have been paired into twos, although this is not fight till death, the winner receives a mighty moniker like python and Tiger but the looser a silly epithet. I believe it will be fun ". The soldiers Screamed in frenzy as the lieutenant continued.

" The fight shall begin at seventeen o'clock and fighters are expected to assemble at the arena before that time. Any fighter who refuses to show up or who comes late will be killed. Listen as I call your names in pairs', he paused for a while, trying to create tensions among the twenty newbies. Jason listened attentively as the names were called.

"Mark vs Cruz,,Victor vs Gerald, Cassette vs Amir...................... Jason vs Kally ". He finally said.

Jason's heart skipped a bit, he knew who Kally was.. Kally was a giant a boy, injuriously violent and maniacally cruel and furious. He was fond of raping male comrades.. Jason had seen him rape a fellow man some days back. He had beaten the young victim to Stupor before forcing himself into the boy from behind. However, Jason had minded his business.

Now faith had brought him against this cantankerous rapist. Not that he was Spineless, he wasn't afraid of him a bit for he wasn't going to die easily in this God forsaken desert anyway, but he knew the combat wouldn't be an easy one.

"see you at seventeen o'clock", the lieutenant concluded as he left.

Suddenly, there was an uproar of noisy excitements among them, many of them had begun to place their bets on Kally for they presumed that the fight was a walk over and practically won by him. His height and we'll built body were enough to scare anyone out of his skin. Jason was just too inferior to him.

Not that the bets were monetary values, they had bet with their meager crumbles of meals which weren't enough to suffice their unending hungers. Perhaps the losers would fall back to eating roots of plants and roaming reptiles without being cooked, while the winners feast on their lucks..

Soon, Kally walked towards Jason and mike, the slendor in his majestic walk was without comparison. Jason was furious, he wished the fight could begin already. The bastard had proclaimed himself a winner even before the fight had begun.

"I will advise you to dig a shallow grave, wide enough to swallow your friend's tiny body fox", Kally said to Mike. Jason stood still, his fingers tightened into a fist, he hoped silently that the son of a bitch would do something stupid, so that he could unleash his burning anger.

"I will personally haggle you body into pieces after your death, and host the vultures with them. But I will bury your cock in that shallow grave" mike replied as he left with Jason.

"we shall see!" Kally shouted from behind them,but they paid no attention..
