PoliticsNeglected Delta Youth Trainees In Trinidad And Barbados Cry Out .pix by cycline404(op): 2:26am On Jan 14, 2015
About 90 youth under the Delta State Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP) program, who were airlifted from the shores of Nigeria for vocational training on the islands of Trinidad and Barbados in the West Indies last month, are now coming out to report neglect on the part of state governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

Though the program advertised itself as one that would train students on agriculture, tourism, hospitality, and culinary arts, students now claim the entire program is a “scam.”

Narrating their predicament from their Trinidad and Barbados training bases, select students accused the state deputy governor, Prof. Amos Utuama, and a lady alleged to be his mistress, a Barbadian identified as Ms. Donna St. Hill, of pocketing program funding.

“Information made available to us reveals that the budget for the program was slashed with the extra funds pocketed by Delta State deputy governor, Prof. Amos Utuama, Ms. Donna St. Hill, and some individuals. This has affected our accommodation and feeding,” a student said.

An overwhelming majority of the students’ sharply criticized the role of Ms. Donna St. Hill, Delta State consultant in charge of the program, who they allege has been working with Delta State officials to perpetuate the scheme.

Ms. Donna St. Hill is a Barbadian, residing in South Africa. [She] has an office in Wuse II, Abuja and she is the Delta State consultant in charge of the program, working hand in hand with Delta state deputy governor, Prof. Amos Utuama, to [hurt] us here in Trinidad and Barbados,” a student said.

Among the chief complaints leveled against Ms. St. Hill is her booking student accommodation in Barbados in hurricane-prone locations. A student told SaharaReporters, “Ms. Donna booked our accommodation at a sub-standard hotel known as Casa Grande Hotel located in a hurricane-prone location, against the earlier-procured place at Infinity Hotel we were supposed to stay.”

“When we asked her why the change, she told us that the earlier-booked hotel is now fully booked, this was followed by her threatening to [send] us back to Nigeria if we [rejected the accommodations]. We have sent Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan mail and up ‘til now he hasn't replied us,” the student furthered.

“Ms. Donna has sent a series of messages lying against us to Governor Uduaghan, whereas we are only agitating for our entitlements as we were informed of by some of the staff of the Ministry of Higher Education in Asaba, the ministry overseeing this program,” students alleged.

“As I'm talking to you now we cannot take our baths because there is no water, some of us had to start fetching water from the pool. Do you know that we almost lost one of us yesterday due to food poisoning as we were told by the doctors? The issue of food is nothing to write home about. I repeat, we have sent a series of messages to the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, to come to our aid, but ‘til date we are yet to get a reply from him,” a student told SaharaReporters.

“We do not have access to water even to take our baths, we have resorted to fetching water from a pool,” a student said.

Reacting to the development in response to a SaharaReporters inquiry, Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta State, Prof. Hope Eghagha, debunked allegations that the program was a scam.

However, Eghagha did confirm that the students in Barbados are having some accommodation challenges.

“The training in Trinidad is going on well at NESC. The students of the program in Barbados have challenges with their accommodation. We are talking to the consultant to improve living conditions or possibly move them to a better hotel. We've appealed to the students to exercise some patience while we sort things out,” Eghagha explained.

As at the time of filing this report, several calls and messages sent to the Delta State deputy governor, Amos Utuama, and his media assistant, Austin Awode, went unanswered.

RomanceTeenage Girl Flees Home With Boyfriend PIX by cycline404(op):
The police in Lagos are on the trail of a teenage girl, Taiwo Olakunle, who allegedly ran away from home and is believed to be with a suspected lover.

Olakunle’s case is the second of such in six weeks.

PUNCH Metro had reported on December 4 that one 13-year-old Ezennia Chikwuo also left her house on Ishola Bello Close in the Alausa area with a man, believably her lover, and had since not returned.

Our correspondent gathered that 18-year-old Olakunle, who was staying with her aunt’s family, the Lawals, on Adeosun Street, Balogun in the Iju area of Lagos, had only been brought from Ondo State in July 2014.

It was learnt that the teenager was enrolled in November 2014 as an apprentice in a hair dressing salon. However, on November 11 while at the salon, she was reportedly beaten up by a gang of street boys who claimed she intruded into their discussion.

The matter was reported to the Iju Police Division, and the police arrested Olakunle’s suspected assaulters.

Our correspondent learnt that on the following day, however, when she came back from a hospital, she was said to have packed her belongings and sneaked out of the house with a man, believed to be her lover, who had yet to be identified.

PUNCH Metro learnt that when the family that Olakunle was staying with noted that the teenager was missing, they reported the matter to the police at Iju.

On Monday when our correspondent visited the Lawals, the aunt, Ola Lawal, lamented that they had searched everywhere for the teenager all to no avail.

She added that in the course of investigation, the police arrested her and her husband and detained them for two days.

She said, “Taiwo (Olakunle) is my niece. Her parents are dead. She was just staying idle in our town in Ondo State and I decided to bring her to Lagos. I enrolled her at the hairdressing salon two months after she arrived in Lagos.

“On November 12, she came back from treating herself at the hospital. The men who beat her up said she was intruding into their discussion, but the police arrested them and charged them to court.

“When she came back that November 12, some people said they saw her pack her things and walk out of the compound.

“They said they saw a motorcycle rider pick her up and zoom off. That was the last time we ever saw her. She was already doing well in the hairdressing vocation, and her boss liked her. All the time she stayed with us, we did not allow her to indulge herself. I still cannot believe a girl who does not know Lagos will disappear like that.

“On December 22, the police at Iju even came to arrest my husband and me. We slept in the cell and were released the following day because it was alleged that we were hiding her.”

The husband to the aunt, Mr. Ibrahim Lawal, told our correspondent that about a week ago, two neighbours said they saw the girl in separate locations with men.

He said, “When one of our neighbours came on a visit and heard about Taiwo, she said she saw her at Katangowa Market in the Abule Egba area buying some clothes with a man. She said she did not call out to her because she was not aware the teenager was being searched for.

“Another person told us he saw her on another evening in the Alagbado area going out with a man. This girl should have mercy on us and return home. If she wants to get married, let her inform us officially and then go.”

When our correspondent visited the hairdressing salon where the teenager was an apprentice, the boss, Mrs. Tosin Bada, noted that there was only one instance when a man came to flirt with Taiwo, and she had sent the supposed lover away.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident. He urged those who saw the teenager to report to the police at Iju.

He said, “Taiwo Olakunle is about four feet tall and fair in complexion.

“If seen, the public should contact the Iju Police Station.”

PoliticsI Found Nothing After Probing Buhari’s PTF – Obasanjo by cycline404(op): 12:18am On Jan 14, 2015
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday said his administration probed the accounts of the Petroleum Trust Fund headed by the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and found nothing unpleasant.

Buhari headed the PTF, inaugurated in March 1995, under the regime of the late dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha. The PTF was established to manage the fund accruable from the increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise know as petrol, from N3.25 to N11.

The PTF was scrapped by Obasanjo on assumption of the Presidency in 1999. The ex-President also set up a committee to investigate the accounts of the PTF following allegations of N25bn fraud in the agency.

Obasanjo’s fresh revelation was made in Ogun State when Buhari and other national leaders of the APC visited the ex-President at his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta.

On the Buhari’s entourage were the APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun; the party’s former interim national chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; a former governor of Lagos State and a national leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, and the governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, among others.

Obasanjo said when he looked into the report submitted to him on the alleged fraud in the PTF he did not see anything incriminating concerning Buhari.

He said, “When you were going to become the manager of PTF. We talked about it and when you finished and I took over, we looked into it.

“I haven’t said this publicly, I would say it publicly now. When we looked into it, there was really nothing amiss except that that organisation went from road building to mosquito net-buying and all sorts of things.

“And what the investigation discovered is a bit of inconsistency in prices and all that. In one area, mosquito net might have been given for N50; in another, N45. And I then remarked that this is fishy. We should look into it.

“And I called my brother and colleague (Buhari), I said see this and he said ‘look we are managing billions of Naira and I tried to make sure I see everything. But I will not say that what they have said about this is correct or not correct. But I can assure you, I tried to see everything.’

“I said okay Muhammadu, between me, you and God, was there any personal benefit for you? And you said ‘no.’ I said that is the end of the matter.

“Although there was that investigation, its report was not of any material importance.”

Obasanjo asked Buhari and other presidential candidates to address the nagging issues of insecurity, economy and deficit in infrastructure.

He implored the presidential candidates to focus on issues rather than trivialities.

He said, “I hope people will face issues rather than trivialities. On occasions like this, issues are very important. And you have mentioned three areas which are demanding issues in Nigeria today.

“I will just beg all of you who are contesting to add one to it; you mentioned economy, you mentioned corruption, and you mentioned security.

“I will beg of you to add infrastructure. It’s very important. You may take it as part of economy but I will take infrastructure as special and give it special attention.”

While he described a political party as a microcosm of a nation, which would consist of near saints, devils, rapists, and armed robbers, Obasanjo warned that when the party wanted to go into government, it must look for men and women of integrity.

Speaking earlier, Buhari said he would tackle corruption while the resources would be used to address infrastructural deficit.

He said if elected, his administration would also give priority to security and fix the economy, stressing that Obasanjo had more experience than him and others in governance.

He said, “It’s a fact that you know more than all we know about the problem that we are in. But what we’ll do is try to convince you to believe us that we are going to do better.

“We have been going around three fundamental issues: security, economy, corruption. This vicious circle is what the APC is determined to break.

“Because without security, there is no way the country can settle down not to talk of living in it. So many people, educated and uneducated, some said up to 60 per cent, will say Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gun powder.

“We believe that if we are able to stop corruption, a lot of resources will be available to invest in infrastructure, get the factories to reopen, get jobs and get goods and services. So security, economy, in terms of employment, production, manufacturing, goods and services, and then agriculture will again be given impetus to employment.”

PoliticsBuhari Had His Chance But Failed, Says Jonathan by cycline404(op): 12:08am On Jan 14, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday said the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) had his chance as military head of state but failed to transform the country.

Jonathan therefore asked Nigerians not to allow Buhari to come back to power by stopping him from winning the February 14 presidential election.

The President, who spoke in Osogbo, capital of Osun State, at the presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party said that Buhari would unleash more hardship and unnecessary punishment on Nigerians if he won the poll.

He said Buhari had the opportunity to ensure an effective mass transit system in the country but he did not do anything about it.

He said, “We have done reasonably well despite the challenges before us. All of you saw the train that just passed through this place now. We promised to resuscitate railway and we did it. All of you saw the train; we can even end the campaign with that.

“Those who have the opportunity to do it but did not do anything about it and they want to come back now. Don’t allow them. Mass transit cannot work by using small buses, you need train which will be cheaper.”

The President said that his administration was planning the railway line that would link Lagos State with the eastern part of the nation to make transportation of people and goods safer and cheaper.

Jonathan said that the Federal Government was also working on Ilesa Dam and Ife Dam and that he would do more if he given the opportunity to steer the ship of the nation for another four years.

He thanked the people of Osun State for the support they showed him in the 2011 presidential election while asking the people to show him and the PDP candidates much more support in the 2015 poll.

While further enumerating the achievements of his administration, he said that higher institutions in the state and in other states had been equipped through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.

The President said that his administration had been working hard to tackle the problem of insecurity created by the insurgents, saying the problem would soon be over.

“We will win the war against terror very soon; terror cannot continue forever. In the next administration terror attacks will be minimal.” he said.

RomanceAn Open Letter To My Ex-husband's New Girlfriend by cycline404(op): 11:40pm On Jan 13, 2015
You must be cringing as you read this. You must be thinking I'm going to school you on how to treat your new boyfriend. You must be thinking I'm going to lay down some laws about how to treat my children.

That is not at all what this letter is about.

I would like to welcome you.

Welcome to this unique dynamic of "modern family." Welcome to the way we wing this life and this relationship. Yes, I said relationship, but not by its standard definition.

The children keep us in a relationship, much like your work keeps you in a relationship with your boss. If success is the goal, whether in work or parenting, the relationship between those who strive for that is important. I will not fill this letter with none-of-my-business-type of advice on how to treat a man I have known since I was 20. I won't tell you anything that is personal about him; anything that he chooses to share is between you two. I'm not going to tell you why things did not work between us. All I will say on the subject of us is what I say to everyone:

To me, he's a great guy -- for someone else.

This might sound weird, but I'm so excited about you. My sons will see a side of their father that they don't even know they missed. They'll witness the kind of happiness that blooms from the excitement, joy and mystery that comes with a new relationship. They'll see their father beaming with hope. They'll hear him laugh (too much and too loud, as they've reported to us) and speak with a new charm in his voice. And because they love and admire him, all of these things will make them happier, too.

I want you to know that it is so important to be yourself around us. Please don't ever feel threatened, intimidated or out of place around us. Just like you, we are also fumbling through the newness of your place in our lives. We trust that if you are good enough for him, you are good enough for us. We expect you to have quirks, flaws and a uniqueness about you that might leave us scratching our heads from time to time.

And we don't want you to change a thing.

Don't ever feel like you can't speak to me, my (new) husband or any of the boys. Say anything. Or say nothing at all. Please be you.

You're going to see us (the kids, mostly, but also my husband and me) quite often. You're going to find yourself sitting with us at concerts, plays, games, graduations and many other events. It will feel awkward at first, maybe, but I hope that changes quickly. While the kids know very well that their father and I are divorced and done, they need to know that we are united in our support of them, and this is one of the many ways we will unapologetically display that support.

I want them to look out at the audience while on stage and see all of us together watching them with pride and excitement. Many of my friends have asked me if sitting between their father and stepfather feels weird. I have done weirder things to esteem, encourage, teach and build my sons. (Singing ridiculous songs about potty training is the first thing that comes to my mind.) This is no sweat. I ask that you join us (when you are ready) and become part of the united front that supports them unconditionally.

You may find yourself sitting through conversations between him and me. Please understand that we need to communicate in order to run our successful "business" of raising amazing humans. Sometimes we need to do it often. And along with the trust I mentioned in the former paragraph, there is trust that you will know when it's appropriate to chime in. Should you ever feel uncomfortable or insignificant during times like this, I ask that you look at the bigger picture and keep in mind that our communication outside the subject of our children is almost non-existent.

He will never call to ask me advice on fashion. (which is a good thing because I have none!)

He won't call me to chat about a TV show he enjoys.

He won't call me to complain about his work day.

Our relationship revolves around three growing boys. While other subjects may arise while we're in the same space for a long period of time, please know that my role in his life is "mother of his children."

Nothing more.

I give you a lot of credit for embarking on a relationship with a father of teenage boys! This is new to them, too, and they have no idea what to do or say around you. They are teenagers with their own lives, hopes, dreams and intentions, and they may not always be at their best. I ask that as you become more of a presence in their lives, you get to know them individually.

My hope is that as time goes by and you are around them more, that you'll have a unique relationship with each of them. This will take deliberate work and effort. And at times it won't be easy, much like anything else that is worthwhile.

I hope this letter doesn't scare you off. I imagine you understand that there is no way I could get all of this out when I met you for the first time and wondered if I was supposed to awkwardly shake your hand.

Carefully and respectfully, I welcome you.
