The University of Lagos, UNILAG has 13 hostels for its undergraduate students, seven of which are for female students and six for the male.

Each of this hostel is famous for one thing or the other, but what they all have in common is the fact that they are named after historical figures and prominent individuals in Art, Education, and Media.

Of this 13 hall of residence, certain hostels are more popular and are regarded as top five hostels in the institution.

Honestly, when I hear of beauty queens I never pay much attention to them because I feel most of them have nothing really to offer.

However, this mindset changed the moment I met Miss Adegoke Balogun, Miss Nigeria International 2017.

Without mincing words, she is highly intelligent (no wonder she came out with a second-class upper considering the course she read), overtly smart, daring, a goal-getter, an inspiration no doubt to everyone who comes her way or even hears about her from a distance. I am confident that anyone who takes time to go through the write-up of the interview we had with her when she visited the Campus Youth TV, will undoubtedly have his or her mind renewed positively.

Registration for the 2018 UTME Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination has started and it will end on Tuesday, February 6, 2018.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB has accredited 72 centres in Lagos state for the upcoming Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in 2018.

The State Coordinator, Sunday Aladegbaye on Monday, December 18 told News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.

Aladegbaye said Lagos had 63 centres for the 2017  edition of the examination but was increased to 72 because more candidates were likely to participate in 2018 Computer Based UTME.

The approved list of JAMB CBT Centres for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration has been released.

At the moment, we cannot say for sure if all of the centres listed will be used for the exams.

However, the exact exam centre for each candidate will be indicated on the original registration slip or the re-printed slip.

Please note that the 2018 UTME registration has not officially commenced. This is just to help you know the closest CBT centre where you can process your UTME Registration when it finally begins.

It was bright but the busy day as the sun smiled on the earth as the son of men carried on their various activities as assigned to them by nature or fate (either which one). This day was unusual as I had to clear some tasks (even if it meant shuffling between class and my office) set before me by virtue of my office. I, therefore, channeled all my resources and energy towards completing the tasks to avoid any form of procrastination.

Pheeew! I had been sapped of my energy and I needed to rest, listen to good music and thereafter eat. As I lay on my bed I remembered I have not written an article for the next publication and inspiration was not forthcoming. The resultant effect is that, I could be disclaimed because the Editor has no chill and writing articles was part of what I signed for.

I crawled out of my little coven called bedspace, meandered my way through some gigantic structures that I could not easily identify because there was no light and lo, I found myself rummaging faces and environments in search of what I myself don’t know up till this moment. What would be the topic of my article? I ruminated. Suddenly, a Facebok post popped up and I saw the picture of a friend in matric gown and then I decided to shift focus to female halls of residence may be in my “nosing for news, I would smell one” and to be rest assured that my olfactory nerve of news has been activated.

It is amazing how the Internet (Social Media) is changing people’s lives. People are able to quickly do research and gather data on the web, navigate through websites flawlessly, and most people are able to find anything on the Internet in ten seconds flat thanks to search engines such as Google. While it’s true that social media can have a negative impact on your brain, it’s not the tool itself that’s the problem but how it’s used. In fact, social media plays a productive and incredibly useful role in the classroom all over the nation, and many feel it has a strong role to play in enriching the educational experience for students for years to come.

Yet social media has been a hotly contested addition to lecture room at all levels, not just in University. And in truth, it does come with the potential for distraction and a myriad of other issues. But a closer examination of the good and bad of social media reveal that it’s not nearly as dangerous as some have made it out to be and may be just what some students need to feel connected to their coursework and their classmates.
