US lists Nigeria among 14 countries facing military aid cuts
The United States has listed Nigeria among 14 countries facing potential cuts to military assistance over the recruitment and use of child soldiers, a designation that could affect defence cooperation, military training and weapons sales.
The designation was contained in the US State Department’s 2026 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report, published on October 11, which identified Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) as armed groups continuing to recruit, abduct and use children in Nigeria.
The report covers the period from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, and places Nigeria on the Child Soldiers Prevention Act (CSPA) list alongside Afghanistan, Burma, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Iran, Russia, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Venezuela and Yemen.
Under the CSPA, countries on the list may face restrictions on certain forms of US security assistance and the commercial licensing of military equipment, subject to applicable exceptions, a presidential waiver or other provisions under the law.
The report stated that the restrictions would take effect from October 1, 2026, and apply throughout the relevant fiscal year unless an exemption or waiver was granted.
“The CSPA prohibits assistance to governments that are identified in the list under the following authorities: International Military Education and Training, Foreign Military Financing, Excess Defence Articles, and Peacekeeping Operations, with exceptions for some programs undertaken pursuant to the Peacekeeping Operations authority.
“The CSPA also prohibits the issuance of licenses for direct commercial sales of military equipment to such governments,” the report stated.
The designation comes amid continued security cooperation between Washington and Abuja, including joint efforts to combat terrorism and other security threats in Nigeria.
According to the report, Boko Haram and ISWAP continue to recruit, abduct and use children as young as 12 in various roles, including as cooks, domestic workers, spies, porters, messengers, bodyguards, checkpoint guards, armed combatants and suicide bombers.
The groups reportedly operate across Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger, subjecting children to physical and sexual abuse and forced drug use.
“Boko Haram and ISIS-West Africa continue recruiting, abducting, and using—including through force, fraud, and coercion—child soldiers as young as 12 years old as cooks, domestic workers, spies, porters, messengers, bodyguards or guards at checkpoints, ‘morality police,’ armed combatants, and suicide bombers in attacks in Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger; these children are subjected to physical and sexual abuse and forced drug use,” the report stated.
The report also raised concerns over the abduction and exploitation of women and girls in northern Nigeria, including forced labour, domestic servitude, sexual slavery and forced marriage.
It alleged that Boko Haram had kidnapped thousands of women and girls and forced some into marriages, while punishing girls who refused to marry by compelling them to become suicide bombers.
Beyond insurgent groups, the report said criminal gangs in southern Nigeria recruit children for forced criminal activities, including kidnappings and robberies, while exploiting some in sex trafficking.
It also identified forced labour in agriculture and mining as a concern involving criminal gangs in the north-west.
Apart from the child-soldier designation, the report said Nigeria had failed to meet the minimum standards for eliminating trafficking for the 15th consecutive year, although it acknowledged some improvements in government funding and victim support.
The US State Department expressed concern over alleged official complicity in trafficking crimes, stating that the Nigerian government did not report investigations, prosecutions or convictions of public officials allegedly involved in such offences during the reporting period.
“The government did not report any investigations, prosecutions, or convictions of government employees allegedly complicit in trafficking crimes or provide details or other actions taken against complicit officials from previous years,” the report stated.
It added that “corruption and official complicity in trafficking crimes remained significant concerns.”
erad: Lol... All these ones up there convulsing about Islam and Muslims. Maybe you should do your research on the atrocities the catholic church committed before Christianity became what it is today. Try to research on the number of people killed for owning bibles. Is it the Salem witch trials? Christianity is responsible for violently wiping off entire cultures and civilizations.
I don't give 2 f**ks about Christianity or Islam. But as a Christian, you have no moral high ground to call any other religion violent or barbaric.
Come out with your full chest and defend your barbaric religion, nobody will beat you..
Humans are evolving knowing the right and the wrong with time..
Does it mean you guys are still evolving ?
Why not go back and start slave trade because some people did it in the past thinking they were doing the right thing ?
Update: Searched and got my answer. Nairaland is utterly unhelpful when seeking knowledge.
The man knew the country he lived in. He’s a big boy. Let him face the consequences. Repercussion for trolling is severe in some countries. One missed chance is enough to put sense in most migrants. His execution will teach others not to cross boundaries.
Atleast this one is sincere to himself by expressing his hatred towards non Muslims , unlike his hypocrite brother that are playing ostrich..
I hope the gullible non Muslims can see you for who you are, and the way you reasons, especially the ones who are forming woke in Nigeria..
I wish I could live in an Islamic free world, but it’s well..
Soon they will start shouting “Islamophobia” Why won’t people fear your religion with this archaic behaviour ?
This backwards behaviour is one of the reasons most people abandon Islam. The free minds in their midst don’t hesitate to dump, and leave free life once they manage to travel to western countries..
Sri Lankan migrant faces death penalty in Saudi Arabia over Facebook comment
Look at Anojan’s mother🥲 she is shivering as she pleads for her son’s life 💔 No words can describe the pain of watching a mother live in fear of losing her child. Please, don’t let her pleas go unheard #SaveAnojan
The Christian massacre going on in Nigeria can never be swept under the the carpet..
Having 12 years uninterrupted Islamic rule in Nigeria has kept Nigeria in a sorry state..
There must be a balance of power by the two dominant religions, else I see a disaster befalling Nigeria if Tinubu continues beyond 2027, then after him another Muslim takes over making it 24 years of Islamic rule..
May God in heaven forbids such abomination from happening..

FBI nabs ISIS-linked Sheikhdoon Mohamud for plottting terrorist attack on Mall of America
Mr Mohamud, who allegedly planned to carry out a mass shooting at the Mall of America, was arrested after buying an AK-47-style rifle, magazines and ammunition from an undercover FBI agent.
FBI Czar, Kash Patel, on Wednesday said, “An ISIS-inspired terrorist allegedly wanted to slaughter 30–60 innocent Americans at the Mall of America.”
Lauding the FBI for thwarting Mr Mohamud’s planned terror attack, Mr Patel said on X: “He got an AK-style rifle and 200 rounds. He also got the FBI. ARRESTED before he could hurt a single American. This FBI doesn’t wait for terrorists to attack. We find them, disrupt them, and put them in handcuffs.Outstanding work by our Minneapolis team. We are staying on offense. America First.”
An affidavit filed in federal court in Minnesota stated that Mr Mohamud, 18, had spent months discussing his planned terror attack with an FBI source.
“I can’t wait until I kill kuffar man. October 24 is the day insha Allah,” Mr Mahmoud had told the FBI source, whom he believed was an ISIS brother.
The affidavit stated that when the FBI source asked why he planned the attack for October 24, Mr Mohamud pointed to a “Hmong Arts Celebration” at the Mall of America, saying it would have “a lot of people.”
At a press conference on Wednesday, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Minneapolis Field Office, Christopher Dotson, narrated how Mr Mahmoud was arrested as he met a disguised FBI agent whom he believed was a loyal agent of ISIS to purchase arms and ammunition for his planned attack.
“Mohammed planned to use the gun he bought in a high-traffic public area just a few weeks’ time in support of a designated foreign terrorist organization,” Mr Dotson said.
While engaging with FBI undercover agents, Mr Mohamud, who is now charged with purchasing a firearm and ammunition to carry out terrorism, had said he wanted to leave the United States to join al-Shabaab in Somalia.
The court affidavit stated that in May, he confided in the FBI source that he was “so excited to make hijrah,” returning to Somalia, to “fight the enemies of Allah.” However, he changed his plan and decided to carry out the terror attack on American soil.
“I will do attack here,” Mr Mahmoud told the FBI source while discussing how to purchase arms and ammunition. But he was arrested as he met an undercover FBI agent disguised as an ISIS supporter.
During the meeting, Mr Mahmoud paid $800 for an AK-47-style rifle, four magazines and roughly 200 rounds of ammunition. He allegedly also said he planned to carry out a shooting at a “kuffar festival” at the Mall of America.
Reacting to the FBI’s arrest of Mr Mohamud and the thwarting of his planned terror attack, U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the FBI “did a great job
A Muslim country like Egypt is blocking Palestine darlings from coming in ?
But some brainwashed clowns in Nigeria are trying to prove more love to Palestines more than Egypt that is living close to them that properly understand how violent they are..
Zehdbe: even your christian brother is laughing at what you said but seriously op apart from your islamphobia do you have any other thing you do with you life
Nobody is laughing at me because i stated a fact!
Well, am doing fantastically well for myself by Gods Grace..
Zehdbe: if i enter inside your church shit then go to the front of that your big cross and show it my middle finger hope you will let me bounce out freely
This has no link with with the subject matter because your comparison is weak, childish and silly.. But if you insist let me reply your narrative..
No you won’t walk out freely .They will first check if you are mentally ok, if not they will leave you alone, but if you are mentally stable the church workers will force you to wash the church and keep it clean the way you met it before they allow you to go..
Christians don’t go about fighting for their God, God fights for his people..
When you are fighting for your god then such god must be a weak and impotent god..
Muslims worship Muhammad, whether they admit it or not. They defend Muhammad more fiercely than they defend Allah. They’re often quicker to kill over blasphemy against Muhammad than against Allah.
Check most of the blasphemy cases, it's always more of Muhammad and not Allah.
HacheNoire: Dude played with devil at the wrong time!
At a time Houthis are frying up their refinery’s. His execution will so fast!
Even Mohammed wasn’t sure if he would make heaven or not, why are you then fighting for such character ? Quran 46:9 “I am not aware of my salvation, how can I give assurance of yours” ?
You want to kill the living because of his comment about a dead man ? Not that he started the trouble, but he was only reacting because someone who happens to be a Muslim insulted his own Hindu religion.
You see the problem I have with these people ? If I talk now they will start with their deceptive slogan “Islamophobia”
Judgement is left for God. This is why l love Christianity and other religions , no matter what you say about Jesus Christ nobody will come for you, rather they will pray for you to repent..
b]24-Year-Old Sri Lankan Migrant Worker Sentenced To Death in Saudi Arabia For Allegedly Insuuting Prophet Muhammad
A 24-year-old Sri Lankan migrant worker, Anojan Sivarasa, is facing the death penalty in Saudi Arabia after an appellate court found him guilty of blasphemy against Islam and the Prophet Muhammad over a comment he made on Facebook.
Anojian was arrested in July after a religious dispute erupted online following an incident involving Hindu pilgrims in Sri Lanka. During the exchange, a user reportedly made derogatory remarks about a Hindu deity, prompting Anojan to respond in Tamil with an insulting comment about Prophet Muhammad. He later deleted the comment and posted an apology video, but screenshots were reportedly sent to his employer and Saudi authorities.
According to his brother, Hamsidan Sivarasa, people in Saudi Arabia were initially unaware of the matter, as individuals in Sri Lanka reportedly sent emails about the post to the company where Anojan worked. The company subsequently notified Saudi authorities, who registered a case against him.
Anojian was initially sentenced to five years in prison and fined 3 million Saudi riyals. However, on September 17, Saudi prosecutors appealed, seeking to have him prosecuted under Sharia law instead of the country’s cybercrime legislation. The appellate court granted the request and increased his punishment to the de@th penalty.
His mother, Rasamanickam Yogalakshmi, has made an emotional plea for his life, saying, “I plead for mercy for the wrongs committed by my son. Please forgive him and send him back to us.”
The Sri Lankan government has launched diplomatic efforts to secure a pardon. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake also assured Anojan’s family that the government would spare no effort to obtain his release.
The family has reportedly had no communication with Anojan since September 28. A four-member Sri Lankan legal delegation is travelling to Saudi Arabia to meet his local defence lawyers and discuss what can be done to save him.
