3Si69: Any undergraduate reading this, wake up to reality. During your time in school, don’t focus on classes alone. Look around for opportunities to gain hands-on practical knowledge. A university certificate no longer guarantees a job, even if you graduate with a first class. No one cares! I’m not going to employ you if all you can say is that you just graduated and have no experience. You can gain plenty of experience while still in school.
Bro! Enroll him in an IT field. He can start as IT support and move up from there. That’s how I started, and today I’m a Network Security Engineer and an IT Manager at my workplace. Thank you for your advice. I previously enrolled him in software engineering training after school and also secured an internship for him, but he struggled in that area. After leaving Lagos for NYSC, relocation did not work and he lost the position. During his service year,he did very well with CCTV and RF work. I’d like him to continue and build on that path. |

Good day everyone.
Please, I’m looking for information on telecoms training schools or institutes in Nigeria that don’t just train, but also help with staff sourcing or placement for the big telcos.
The reason I’m asking is personal. My younger brother finished NYSC and has been at home for a while now. He studied an engineering-related course, but as we all know, certificates alone don’t move things anymore. I’m trying to help him do something practical that can actually lead to work, instead of just staying idle and applying endlessly.
If anyone knows:
- Telecoms schools with strong industry links; - Training centers used by telcos or their vendors; - Places that train and later recommend trainees for field roles, NOC, RF, transmission, fiber, or similar,
please share names, locations, or personal experiences. Even warnings about places to avoid are welcome.
Thanks in advance. |
