Our opponents will have a torrid time containing Osimhen and Adams because they frequently switch positions and can easily shake off a defender.

Playing Lookman in the hole makes a lot of sense because in that position, he is able to evade close marking from the defenders and can pop up on the wings when Iwobi threads the needle to cause maximum damage.

Ndidi has done well so far as captain. He truly deserves to lead the team. He is a very good player with a lot of experience, composure and patience.

I also salute Chelle for resisting the temptation to start Onyedika. Many Nigerians ignorantly clamored for a double DM pivot which would have ruined the match.

The introduction of Frank Onyeka brought balance, solidity and efficiency to our play, allowing us quick transition from attack to defence without hesitation.

Your usual expatriate journeyman oyibo would play with 6 at the back and claim we don't have good defenders.

Eric Chelle thought it wise to exploit our rich attacking resources. Bringing in Akor Adams was the last piece of the jigsaw. The boy gives us that latitude to play a flamboyant attacking football and best our opponents in all phases of play.

What I'm really pleased with is the fact that Eric Chelle doesn't behave like a Nigerian; he is a critical thinker and he has the ability to synthesize his own thoughts, two features lacking in your everyday Nigerian.

Your usual Nigerian coach would throw Osimhem up top flanked by two wingers. By now we would be struggling to get a draw against Comoros

Bruno has always been a quality player. He just needed confidence and the right environment.
He's got some flair which is particularly useful in a team playing free-flowing football. Remember he used to be a midfielder.

Who else was impressed with Bright Osayi-Samuel? That boy has always impressed me since he joined us. He is levels above Alebiosu for sure.
I liked his tenacity today and his link-up with Onyeka.

These clowns who have been on Osimhen's matter since he became a Nigerian star, what is the colour of your problem?
Are you jobless or lovesick? How can we help you? Is it mental health issue?

Everyday these elements come up with a myriad toxic claims about how Osimhen has declined, how he cannot equal Yekini's record, how his career has nosedived, how he scores only penalties, etc.

I reckon all you Osimhen haters would be really problematic in your interpersonal relationship in real life.
I can't reconcile how you combine hate with inferiority complex. Is Europe the only place where football is played?
If the European clubs value him, let them break the bank or forever remain silent.

Soon some inferiority-complex clowns will return to tell us how Okoye is the next thing after sliced bread.
In terms of ability, Nwabali is miles ahead of this Okoye dude

You and these your lamentations. Did Osimhen steal your goat?
Make una leave that boy alone. When he missed a penalty in Italy, you guys said he should learn how to play penalties. He started scoring for fun from the spot, you said he should allow others take the kicks instead.

Osimhen will not follow your rules oga. England is not the standard. Dude is a world class striker and he will move to wherever he is destined to go.
Victor Gyokeres scored more than 40 goals and still remained in Lisbon.

I watch a scene in oshimen last Gala match where he was asking the opposing team player to come outside the pitch so that they can fight...

Mehn I was so disgusted, for a top striker of that calibre. He really need to learn manage his temperament and stay disciplined. One imagine if it is because of the wage issue big clubs are Avoiding him

Zidane disgraceful exiting from the pitch was something that hurts him for a long time and even denied france the world cup that day. It also denied him baloon d'or he lost to the Italian defender

This your colonial mentality REALLY SUCKS and it's a huge shame to be honest.
At a time when your peers are trying to find value in their roots, you are still steeped in inferiority complex.

You want Nwabali to be replaced with a guy who plays for Wrexham because to you everything foreign is superior.
Same way some unfortunate dudes here were clamouring for Okoye to displace Nwabali automatically because he plays for Udinese.

Why do you want to give Frederick 1-2 years. He clearly put in a solid showing. I call him a proper defender. Frederick and Ogbu should have been in the team since 2023.

Comparing Musa with Messi is silly. Football apart, Messi's financial impact on football is tremendous.
Musa is in the team based on the horrible quota system.
minfelix:
Ahmed Musa
- 32
- still playing active football week in week out in NPFL for kano pillars(to remain relevant in african football
-scoring 5goals in 10 appearances
-still has 100% firm knowledge grips and some form of connection and synergy with this current generation of super eagles(Afcon 2024)

Ogenyi Onazi
- 32
- Played last for Avezzano italian serie D (2023-2024) scoring 0goals in 14 appearances
- played last for super eagles since 2018(7yrs ago)
- Has little or no form of connection and synergy with this current crop of super eagles generation

Brown Ideye
-36(older than the aforementioned players)
-currently playing for Enyimba (just to keep up body fitness)
-scoring 2 goals in 7appearance
- Last played in super eagles since 2016(9yrs ago)
-Has no recent or immediate knowledge of whats going on in this present day eagles

Efe Ambrose
- 36yrs
-Playing currently for Workington AFC of the 7th tier of English league
-making 25 apearance and scoring 1goal
-played last for super eagles since 2016(9years ago)
- Has nothing on this current super eagles squad to offer

Rabiu Ali
-44years(has nothing connecting him with super eagles, even in his prime days, he is always best use for Home based eagles….make i no waste my time on that one

Bottom line, you people should leave Ahmed Musa alone, he is still football relevant to this present super eagles.
He is at least worth a super eagles 35mans provisional squad in the here and now…If Argentina still dey call Messi and Portugal still dey call Ronaldo, you people should leave Musa alone, for now he is our Messi/Ronaldo…on Fifa world cup level, no Nigerian player past and present come close to the record Musa has set…he is not retired he is currently in good form and he is single handedly pushing Kano pillars to CAF champions league football with kano pillar trailing the CAF champions league spot with just 1point..
Ahmed musa will still challenge players like chukwueze in super eagles, this is a testament that he started playing football with his real age…he is not even lethargic anytime soon.
FREE HIM!!
CHELLE!! kudos
99.9% perfect provisional list🔥🔥

So many players on the list as expected as we have two matches in the window.
I have read comments about the list being political. What did you expect? Eric Chelle wouldn't know all the players within two months. He needs time to learn the players and so would be given a list by the NFF for a start.

Again, expect nothing different in the two matches this month.
I'm not interested in qualification for the world cup with the prevailing standard and pattern of play.
I'll rate Eric Chelle if he gives us the football that we identified with in the 80s and 90s. Qualifying for the world cup would be a bonus.

Just watching the live draws for the quarterfinals of the CAFCL and CAFCC. Again, no Nigerian club in the mix and this has been normalised.

Just like any other sector or sphere in Nigeria, the simple things are yet to be done.
Everyone is busy clamouring for so and so player in Europe that should be invited as if that’s the solution.
A 2003 Enyimba-Rangers-Sharks team would crush Rwanda, Benin, Zimbabwe and South Africa home and away.

I’m not positing that NPFL players be invited. Of course they are nowhere near that level, but till we actually play football as a team, disgrace awaits us in March.

I am not even a fan of bringing back an Okocha to the team because I believe that our problems are basically poor attitude, lack of teamwork, zero football culture and administrative incorrigibility.

In a group peopled by unknown quantities like Zimbabwe and Rwanda, we should be emerging with maximum 30 points if things were even half right in Nigeria.
Again, we have all it takes in terms of personnel to still qualify from this group of nonentities. It’s about doing the right things.

I have watched some highlights involving Chrisantus Uche which are not really enough to convince me that he has the creative spark that we desperately need. I might need to watch a full match involving him to be able to make a definite call.

He sure has the strength and physical attributes to play in a two-man midfield in a 4-4-2 setting.
Considering the dearth of midfielders currently, a call-up may be worth considering.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by DABIGATRAN(m): 3:33pm On Jan 26, 2025
Insecurity has always been a problem in Nigeria but people still go about their businesses including national youth service.

I agree with you about the litany of academies with talents from which we can choose from but you should remember that there are many talents out there who do not have access to those academies.
There are young people in Oturkpo, Wukari, Afikpo, Iseyin, Kaltungo, etc who are not enrolled in those academies but who can afford to take a bus to the state capital for an open screening.

Our schools had good sporting facilities in the 60s to 80s. There were inter-school and inter-state tournaments but those are no longer the norm today unfortunately due to bad leadership.

Do not disregard small beginnings. Granted we have a small number of players who eventually made it to stardom but that number was still significant.
No Nigerian was named APOTY for 23 years before Osimhen.
Iheanacho played for an elite club like Manchester City straight from a ragtag team in Owerri. That really elevated the reckoning of our local talents.

There must not be 100 elite players in the senior national team for us to do well. Two or three players could inspire a stupendous football miracle.
Kog45:
Sir,am talking about insecurities all over now...how would you feel if teens were kidnapped on their way to open screening.

4000 coming for open screening is archaic.....FIFA brought TDS and this can support what we produce through academies and youth league.I don't think winning under 17 is a must but discovering future talents.....2013 and 2015 combined have Osimhen, Iheanacho, Awoniyi, Chuckwueze,Ndidi who failed MRI,last season Success with Udinese,Uzoho, pls where are the rest with over 4000 that came for open screening.

In the 80s-90s nothing like open screening but we won the maiden edition 85,finalist 89,banned from participating due age issue, after ban we won Japan 93 and 95 team was cool,we had meridian 97 team.We achieved this through good developmental programs.

My view is this, without open screening we can still achieve it by following strictly organize grassroots football developments and mind you no more streets footballing like before, everything is now academies, even the local ones are attached to this school
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by DABIGATRAN(m): 5:25pm On Jan 25, 2025
Regarding the lack of goals, I would attribute that to lack of cohesion and lack of teamwork. It is not about Boniface or Dessers or Awoniyi. Each of these dudes would bang in goals playing for Morocco or Benin or Iceland.

We are the only country in the world arguably where our national teams approach football as if it is an individual sport. One would wonder what they do in training.
No plans for corner kicks or throw-ins or free kicks.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by DABIGATRAN(m): 5:18pm On Jan 25, 2025
It is actually we on this platform that are really concerned about the progress (or lack of it) of the Super Eagles. The principalities at the NFF care less.
The only reason why they work round the clock each time to ensure World Cup qualification is because of the FIFA $9m largesse.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by DABIGATRAN(m): 5:13pm On Jan 25, 2025
Open screening for our under 17 team was the norm between 2012 and 2015. It was Pinnick that stopped it. I suspect his deputy Akinwumi was given the under 17 team as his share of the national cake.

I mentioned earlier that in Nigeria, whatever worked was eventually jettisoned because the ultimate aim is that nothing works. Good news to the colonial masters, isn’t it?
So the plan perfectly works that the talents are exported in raw form just like the crude oil.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by DABIGATRAN(m): 5:06pm On Jan 25, 2025
Not necessarily world class but decent defenders, and most importantly teamwork.
yinkeys:
Super Eagles need world class centre backs, b2b midfielders, creative midfielders to complement the world class forwards, wing backs and goalie we have
No sentiments
We need to win the next Afcon

Drop names of the next Sunday Mba, Taribo West

Dele Bashiru, Joe Aribo are not creative
They’re goal scoring offensive type of midfielders to me
Maybe Dele Bashiru will do well as b2b midfielder

Ndidi, Onyeka play really well as DM
I’ve never really seen them play a fantastic game for the super eagles as b2b midfielders

I still need to watch more games of Onyedikachi & Chrisantus to conclude on my observations
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by DABIGATRAN(m): 12:35pm On Jan 25, 2025
There was actually an open screening in different states of Nigeria for the 2013 and 2015 teams. Some players were picked on recommendation as well as based on previous stints with the u15 teams
Kog45:
Yes there is open camping based on recommendations.I remember we had this discussion on open camping with different views.
.

If player don't get connect for open screening forget it bro......you don't just carry your bags and said oh am going to Under 17 camp for screening.

Manu Garba and Emma Amunike open screening was based on recommendations so there is different between open screening and recommendations for open screening, players like Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Nwakali, Iheanacho,Success,Awoniyi and others all made it to eagles camp on recommendations for open camping,in fact Awoniyi made it based on Olofinjana recommendations after UK under 15 coca cola summer camp in London.

1980s-90s youth teams successes are on well rooted grassroots systems, picking players from principal cup,Manuwa Adebanjo cup,National sports festival and states YSFON teams.

Nigeria now have pools of football academies as an advantages now, from Lagos,Anambra,Imo,Jos,Kaduna,Oyo and other states there are enough talents in those academy schools to pick from to form open camping and mind you there is no real street footballing again cuz they are all attached to one academy or the other.

The major issue with our youth teams is more than open screening but poor developmental programs from NFF and the same system is affecting the senior team but our Europe based players always giving us the confidence that no matter what we will manoeuver our way but when reality set in like WC qualifying standing now we are realizing that wahala dey .

Crap!
Yobo was average at best. Scored a couple of goals but offset the credit with telling own goals. He lacked leadership but became captain by virtue of longevity and loyalty to the corrupt politicians.

Yobo had Enyeama behind him almost all his years. Balogun had Akpeyi, Uzoho and Maduka. Copy that!

Don't rate him, move on!
He doesn't owe you anything. He has played in the top 5 leagues and he has been proven. He has also won the APOTY
Philosopher1979:
I don't undestand you. For osimhen to be rated he needs to go back to a top 5 league. The Turkish league is not as good as any top 5 league. Scoring 40 goals a season in a league that is not un the top 5 will not get you as much rating as 27 goals in the la liga. That is just the fact. All world class players have to prove themselves in the top 5 leagues. As per fernabache beating Liverpool or man United. It can happen but how many Turkish teams have won the champions league. To win another african footballer of the year and be a true legend he needs to go back to a top 5 league.
Arsenal, manu needs his services and as per Liverpool he can still be the best there but arsenal and manu badly need strikers. He should not turn to those players that just stay in obscure leagues and are not rated. It happened to this nigerian player in trbzinspor anthony nwakaeme. He never played in a top 5 league so his achievements by global standards are questionable.
Osimhen has every chance to play in a top 5 league and he should move this summer or it might get too late.

I wanted to reply that but you have done a good job 👍
People think playing football is market survey: moving from one shop to another. It is a job. One needs some stability.

Osimhen is already a world class striker and does not need to prove anything to anybody. He is enjoying his football and he has got his mental health back which is very important. People just want these footballers to be their personal robot. Pathetic!

My point is that for more than 2 decades the Eagles have played like freelancers, each man doing his individual thing. The term team is a remote word.

Keshi's team played like a team between meeting CIV and playing Spain.
Siasia's team at the 2016 Olympics showed some team work as well.
Garba Manu's U-17 has been the best team in over 3 decades of our football.

It is not about whether you play 1 or 5 at the back or you bring back Okocha. You can't win any laurels with disjointed play.
