RomanceAn 'ugly Woman's' Honest And Painful Response To Being Mistreated Goes Viral by dabrats(op): 10:11pm On Oct 27, 2014
Most women at one point in time have felt unpretty. But one woman has gone ahead to publicly write about her painful experience when her perception of herself were confirmed by people’s abuse and mistreatment.

According to her post on Reddit, “I am an ugly woman. Objectively, I really am. Please don’t argue with me on this one, Reddit. I am not overweight, actually in better shape than most women my age, I dress well, I am great with makeup,” throwmeaway4325 wrote. “But last weekend the world just had to remind me that despite all this, people will go out of their way to kick me.”

From her narrative, she had a night from hell. She had dressed in a tight, sexy dress, and had nicely applied makeup, straightened her hair and stepped out of the house feeling confident and her girlfriends’ reactions to her appearance corroborated the fact that she looked dashing. She knew that their reaction was sincere — girls can always tell. “For once I wasn’t just masquerading as an attractive girl with fancy makeup and clothes, but that I WAS the attractive girl. I hadn’t felt so attractive in ages,” she wrote.

But her self-assurance took a nose dive when she got to the club and was met with one disrespectful person after another. Men leant her friends money for the cover and conveniently didn’t have enough to cover her; a guy who had danced with her was however distracted and was obviously on the lookout for something better the entire time; It got to the point that a photographer asked her to get out of a shot. “For all the effort I had put into looking and feeling good that night, it seemed like it just didn’t matter.”

After posting her personal ordeal, her story went viral with many posting positive and encouraging responses as well as people sharing their experiences. She might have been hurt but it seems her post has helped people as a result. http://chynaduru..com/2014/10/an-ugly-womans-honest-and-painful.html
HealthBug Chasing: Men Deliberately Trying To Catch HIV For Sexual Thrill by dabrats(op): 7:32pm On Oct 27, 2014
A report by mirror Uk shows that gay men are intentionally getting infected with HIV for sexual thrill. According to the report, one man who willingly caught the virus, said that hundreds of men in the UK are meeting on online forums, Facebook and Twitter. Experts have warned about a new craze in which men are secretly seeking and spreading HIV.

The reckless practice, known as bug chasing, started in the US as a bizarre means of getting a sexual high from risk-taking.

Now, according to one man who willingly caught the virus, hundreds of men in the UK are introducing themselves on online forums, Facebook groups and Twitter.

Many then meet up and try to transmit the potentially life-threatening virus, which attacks the immune system weakening the body’s ability to fight disease.

Some bug-chasers actually claim the virus gives them a better quality of life because of the medication they subsequently have to take.

Nick, 30, an admin worker from the Midlands, said: “I feel fit as a fiddle. I feel full of energy and healthier as a result of being on my medication.

“I get my liver function tests every three months, my cholesterol tested regularly and I get loads of general health checks so if there are any underlying conditions I know straight away. Even better, I get it all on the NHS.”

Last year, 73,659 people in the UK were treated for HIV – 43 per cent of them gay or bisexual men – a rise of 58 per cent over the last 10 years.

In 2012, the NHS spent £840million on HIV treatment, an average £10,000 per patient.

Simon Prytherch, of the Elton John Aids Foundation, said: “This practice is very scary and highly irresponsible.

"What we see increasingly are cases of treatment failure and then rapid decline in health.”

Bug chasing is so new to the UK it is impossible to say how many men are involved.

In the US, where the phenomenon was first identified in 1999, research is further advanced.

An investigation by Rolling Stone magazine in 2003 claimed a quarter of all new HIV transmissions in the US could be attributed to bug chasing.

No such studies have been done in the UK but one Facebook group dedicated to the practice has been “liked” by 1,172 people.

A US website which promotes meetings of bug-chasers and gift-givers – those who are already HIV positive – has more than 5,000 members.

Nick, who contracted HIV in 2011, joined the site two years ago.

He claims he has had unprotected sex with more than 1,000 men, including many he knew were HIV positive, in his quest for the virus.

When Nick was first diagnosed, he wrote on Facebook: “Tested positive on 21st September and totally loving it! Wanna share with any chasers, CD4 is 971, VL 100,000 – nice and toxic!”

CD4 refers to his white blood cell count while VL is the “viral load”, which indicates how likely a carrier is to pass the virus on. VL 100,000 is extremely high.

“I don’t regret the sex I had or becoming HIV. The only downside of contracting the virus is it took some of the excitement away.”

There’s nothing surgery, pills and injections can't do these nowadays.

Rapper T.I.‘s wife Tiny recently permanently changed her eye colour to grey.Tiny-changes-her-eye-color

After much speculation, she posted a mini-commercial for the place that helped her transform, but later pulled down the Instagram post later.

Below was the caption:

“I permanently changed my eye color with Brightocular and loving it! Thank you Dr. Montasser Menif for the amazing experience and for making my dream come true. I hated wearing contacts just for the color and it made my vision blurry. Blessed to say my vision is perfect after my ice-gray implants.

EducationStudy Claims That Music From Beyoncé, Lil Wayne, T.I And More Makes You Dumb by dabrats(op): 6:46am On Oct 27, 2014
A software developer, Virgil Griffith has taken his time to research and study music in correlation with test scores.

He spent a significant amount of time correlating the collective musical tastes of certain colleges and universities with their students’ average SAT scores.

His result shows that there are particular types of music favoured by people with lower SAT scores and a different type of music preferred by people with higher SAT scores. Virgil Griffith believes this is not a coincidence, and that certain music is made for smarter minds.

Virgil Griffith has been undergoing his research for the past 5 years and releasing new charts on and off with new music stars using new data. His latest chart to be released shows that people who listen to songs by Beyonce, T.I, Lil Wayne, Hip Hop, Justin Timberlake and a host of others often get the lowest test scores while people who listen to Eminem, Kayne West,Alternate Rock, U2, Norah Jones and more often get average test scores. His graph shows that the highest test scores are often gotten by people who listen to Beethoven.

HealthBREAKING!: Nurse At Spain Hospital Contracts Ebola by dabrats(op): 8:24pm On Oct 06, 2014
According to AFP,
In what is believed to be the first infection outside of Africa, an assistant nurse at a Madrid hospital where two Ebola patients died has contracted the virus herself, health officials said Monday.
a spokesman for the health department of the regional government of Madrid told them:
"Two tests were done and the two were positive," a spokesman for the health department of the regional government of Madrid told AFP.

The woman works at Madrid's La Paz-Carlos III hospital where two missionaries who were repatriated from Africa with Ebola died from the disease, a spokeswoman for the hospital said.

"We do not know yet if she treated any of the two missionaries," the spokeswoman told AFP.

Spanish priest Miguel Pajares, 75, was infected with Ebola in Liberia and died at the hospital on August 12.

Another Spanish missionary, Manuel Garcia viejo, 69, was repatriated from Sierra Leone and died at the hospital on September 25.

The Ebola epidemic that has been raging in west Africa has so far claimed almost 3,500 lives, with Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone worst hit.

There is no licensed treatment or vaccine for Ebola. Of several prototype treatments in the pipeline, one dubbed ZMapp has been fast-tracked for use, developed by Mapp Biopharmaceutical in California, in conjunction with the US Army.

HealthAnother Outbreak: Ebola-like Hemorrhagic Fever Kills Man In Uganda, 80 Quarantin by dabrats(op): 12:44am On Oct 06, 2014
KAMPALA (Reuters) - A man has died in Uganda's capital after an outbreak of Marburg, a highly infectious hemorrhagic fever similar to Ebola, authorities said on Sunday, adding that a total of 80 people who came into contact with him were quarantined.
Marburg starts with a severe headache followed by hemorrhaging and leads to death in 80 percent or more of cases in about nine days. It is from the same family of viruses as Ebola, which has killed thousands in West Africa in recent months.
There is no vaccine or specific treatment for the Marburg virus, which is transmitted through bodily fluids such as saliva and blood or by handling infected wild animals such as monkeys.
The health ministry said in a statement that the 30-year old radiographer died on Sept. 28 while working at a hospital in Kampala. He had started feeling unwell about 10 days earlier, and his condition kept deteriorating. He complained of headache, abdominal pain, vomiting blood and diarrhea.
Samples were taken and tested at the Uganda Virus Research Institute, and results confirmed the man had the Marburg virus.
Doctors said his brother, one of the people he came into contact with, has developed similar symptoms and has been quarantined in a group of 80 others, 60 of whom are health workers.
Those quarantined came into contact with the victim either in Kampala or his burial place in Kasese, a district in western Uganda bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Marburg has a shorter incubation period of 14 days, compared with Ebola's 21.
The current outbreak of Ebola, the deadliest on record so far, has killed more than 3,400 people in four West African countries.
Uganda has been hit by several outbreaks of Marburg and Ebola in the past, but it has contained the outbreaks quickly, limiting fatalities.
Its worst occurrence of hemorrhagic fever occurred in 2000, when 425 people contracted Ebola and more than half of them died. continue...http://chynaduru..com/2014/10/outbreak-of-ebola-like-hemorrhagic.html
HealthFormer U.S Ebola Doctor Previously Discharged Has Been Re-admitted by dabrats(op):
(CNN) -- An American patient treated for Ebola in Nebraska then released is now in isolation in a hospital in Massachusetts. And an Ebola patient in Dallas has slipped into critical condition.

Dr. Richard Sacra had worked as a medical missionary in Liberia but not directly with Ebola patients. Nevertheless, he contracted the disease. He was treated in isolation at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha then released after testing negative for the virus.

Early Saturday, he went to an emergency room in Boston with a cough and fever, said missionary organization Serving in Mission. He was afraid he might have pneumonia.Because of his previous infection, he was transferred to the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, the center said in a statement.Doctors there don't believe it is a recurrence of Ebola, but are keeping Sacra in isolation, in accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, until they are sure what is causing his symptoms.

"We're waiting for final test results from the CDC, which we expect to receive late Monday," said lead physician Dr. Robert Finberg.

HealthScientists Have Traced The Origin Of AIDS To Democratic Republic Of Congo by dabrats(op): 2:19am On Oct 04, 2014
An international team of scientists say a "perfect storm" of population growth, sex and railways allowed HIV to spread.

A feat of viral archaeology was used to find the pandemic's origin, the team report in the journal Science.

They used archived samples of HIV's genetic code to trace its source, with evidence pointing to 1920s Kinshasa.

Their report says a roaring sex trade, rapid population growth and unsterilised needles used in health clinics probably spread the virus.

Meanwhile Belgium-backed railways had one million people flowing through the city each year, taking the virus to neighbouring regions.

Experts said it was a fascinating insight into the start of the pandemic.

HIV came to global attention in the 1980s and has infected nearly 75 million people.

It has a much longer history in Africa, but where the pandemic started has remained the source of considerable debate.

Family affair

A team at the University of Oxford and the University of Leuven, in Belgium, tried to reconstruct HIV's "family tree" and find out where its oldest ancestors came from.

The research group analysed mutations in HIV's genetic code.

"You can see the footprints of history in today's genomes, it has left a record, a mutation mark in the HIV genome that can't be eradicated," Prof Oliver Pybus from the University of Oxford told the BBC.

By reading those mutational marks, the research team rebuilt the family tree and traced its roots.

HIV is a mutated version of a chimpanzee virus, known as simian immunodeficiency virus, which probably made the species-jump through contact with infected blood while handling bush meat.

The virus made the jump on multiple occasions. One event led to HIV-1 subgroup O which affects tens of thousands in Cameroon.

Yet only one cross-species jump, HIV-1 subgroup M, went on to infect millions of people across every country in the world.

The answer to why this happened lies in the era of black and white film and the tail-end of the European empires.

In the 1920s, Kinshasa (called Leopoldville until 1966) was part of the Belgian Congo.

Prof Oliver Pybus said: "It was a very large and very rapidly growing area and colonial medical records show there was a high incidence of various sexually transmitted diseases."

Sex and railways

Large numbers of male labourers were drawn to the city, distorting the gender balance until men outnumbered women two to one, eventually leading to a roaring sex trade.

Prof Pybus added: "There are two aspects of infrastructure that could have helped.

"Public health campaigns to treat people for various infectious diseases with injections seem a plausible route [for spreading the virus].

"The second really interesting aspect is the transport networks that enabled people to move round a huge country."

Around one million people were using Kinshasa's railways by the end of the 1940s.

The virus spread, with neighbouring Brazzaville and the mining province, Katanga, rapidly hit.

Those "perfect storm" conditions lasted just a few decades in Kinshasa, but by the time they ended the virus was already starting to spread around the world.
The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) attacks the immune system

Prof Jonathan Ball, from the University of Nottingham, told the BBC: "It's a fascinating insight into the early phases of the HIV-1 pandemic.

"It's the usual suspects that are most likely to have helped the virus get a foothold in humans - travel, population increases and human practices such as unsafe healthcare interventions and prostitution.

"Perhaps the most contentious suggestion is that the spread of the M-group viruses had more to do with the conditions being right than it had to do with these viruses being better adapted for transmission and growth in humans. I'm sure this suggestion will prompt interesting and lively debate within the field."

Dr Andrew Freedman, a reader in infectious diseases at Cardiff University, said: "It does seem an interesting study demonstrating very elegantly how HIV spread in the Congo region long before the Aids epidemic was recognised in the early 80s.

"It was already known that HIV in humans arose by cross species transmission from chimpanzees in that region of Africa, but this study maps in great detail the spread of the virus from Kinshasa, it was fascinating to read."

HealthHttp://www.usatoday.com/story/news/usanow/2014/10/02/nbc-news-ebola-staff/166179 by dabrats(op):
Another American has been infected with ebola. He is now the fifth American infected with the deadly virus outside American soil According to USAtoday,
An American freelance TV cameraman working for NBC News in West Africa is being flown back to the United States for treatment after testing positive for Ebola.
Ashoka Mukpo is scheduled to arrive Monday morning at the Nebraska Medical Center's biocontainment unit in Omaha.
He is the fourth American to have contracted Ebola in Liberia. Dr. Richard Sacra was transported to the Omaha facility and received treatment there for three weeks before being discharged Sept. 25.
The video journalist, 33, reported symptoms on Wednesday and was running a slight fever. On Thursday he was tested for the virus at a treatment center, with the result coming back positive, NBC News said in a story posted on its website.
He had been hired Tuesday as a second cameraman for NBC's medical correspondent, Nancy Snyderman, who is in Liberia reporting on the Ebola epidemic with three other NBC News employees.
In an interview on Today, Snyderman said Mukpo had joined her 72 hours prior to realizing he felt ill.
"We shared a work space. We shared vehicles. We shared equipment," she said. "But everyone here is hyper-alert. We have not been in close proximity. No one shakes hands. No hugging
"We are doing everything we can to get him the best care possible,'' NBC News President Deborah Turness said in a note to staff. "He will be flown back to the United States for treatment at a medical center that is equipped to handle Ebola patients."
Turness said Snyderman and others in her crew will be flown back to the United States on a private charter flight and will be quarantined in the United States for 21 days "in an abundance of caution.''

Romance6 Reasons Why Being Friends With Your Ex Probably Won't Work by dabrats(op): 5:06pm On Oct 03, 2014
Wanna remain friends with your ex? Experts are saying no. Below are the six reasons why it is such a bad idea. Report from a therapist:
"As a therapist, I've spent a lot of time explaining to my divorced clients why trying to remain friends with their ex can be problematic. Let's face it, many people are not emotionally ready to move on after a breakup and believe that preserving a friendship with their ex (assuming there was one) is useful. While it's normal to want to undo the past, so often when we try to forge a friendship with our ex we are blindsided by complications and pitfalls.

When my marriage ended, I felt a lot of pressure to maintain a friendship with my ex and found out over time that it wasn't practical or in the best interests of myself or my children. In my case, I believe that I was looking for closure by trying to be friends with my ex -- but soon realized that letting go of the reasons why our marriage dissolved was a healthier decision. I also came to terms with the fact that I didn't need to have all of the answers to why my marriage failed in order to move on.
There are many reasons why people strive to be friends with their ex after a breakup or divorce. Certainly one of the main reasons people discuss during their sessions with me is that they have unfinished business they hope to resolve. Melinda, a 46 year old journalist confides: "I can't really completely heal from the breakup until I understand why our 10-year marriage didn't work out. I know that John doesn't share my view, but that's what would work best for me."
Another reason why people want to stay in close contact with a former partner after a breakup is guilt. Sometimes the person who is the dumper feels guilty about leaving the relationship, especially if they were unfaithful, and wants to remain friendly with the dumpee to help ease their guilt. In this case, counseling with a qualified therapist is a more effective way to deal with these leftover emotions.
Further, some individuals keep their relationship alive because they hope for reconciliation but they don't necessarily acknowledge it. According to Susan J. Elliott, author of Getting Past Your Breakup, "Examining your quest for contact and being honest about your real intentions will help you stop making excuses to make contact." Alan, age thirty-eight, reflects: I tried to keep in touch with Alyssa with the hope that we could mend things and one day get back together -- even though I knew she was dating someone else."
Then there are all the celebrity couples whose breakups seem smooth and harmonious - they may even inspire you to be friends with your ex. For example, Courtney Cox and David Arquette make it look easy to support each other and their daughter. My guess is that David and Courtney had a strong friendship from the onset of their relationship which endured the breakup. However, most people don't experience pleasant feelings toward their partner during and after their breakup. Consequently, it's probably not a realistic expectation that you will be able to pull off a close friendship with your ex and be able to set aside anger, bitterness, and resentment.

HealthAnother Suspected Case Of Ebola Reported In Hawaii, Patient Placed In Isolation by dabrats(op): 4:41pm On Oct 03, 2014
According to Dailymail, a patient in Honolulu, Hawaii, has been placed in isolation with suspected Ebola, the Department of Health confirmed on Wednesday.
Even though the disease is a possibility, the patient has not yet been specifically tested for it, but is displaying some symptoms.
The Hawaii Nurses Association said the person is being treated at The Queen’s Medical Center.Officials have not revealed the patient's gender or travel history, reported KHON.
'We are early in the investigation of a patient — very, very, early, who we’re investigating that might have Ebola,' said Dr. Melissa Viray, deputy state epidemiologist.

'It’s very possible that they have Ebola, I think it’s also more likely that they have another condition that presents with similar symptoms.'
Two suspicious factors would be if the patient had a fever and if he traveled to West Africa in the last 21 days.
The Department of Health is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on this particular case to ensure that is it being handled with the utmost caution and care.
'We’ve asked the hospitals to tell us about is anyone with a travel history and anyone with a fever, and when those things come together, we’ve asked them to be very careful and in an abundance of caution while you’re working, for whatever else might be going on, also make sure you isolate against Ebola, just in case,' said Dr. Melissa Viray, deputy state epidemiologist.
The patient is currently being kept in a regular room but anyone who goes in must wear protective gear.
'They’re monitoring who goes in and out of that room and making sure that everybody as safe as possible, while the patient is being evaluated for Ebola and what other conditions that patient might have,' Dr. Viray told KHON.
The patient has symptoms that could be associated with Ebola.
The hospital did not confirm if the patient was traveling in West Africa but they said that unless people are traveling in a place where Ebola is prevalent, their chances of getting the virus is very low.

HealthAnother Deadly Virus Is Currently Sweeping USA by dabrats(op): 4:31pm On Oct 03, 2014
Another deadly virus aside ebola is currently sweeping the U.S. According to CBSnews, "There is another virus sweeping the country. The enterovirus mostly strikes children and causes a severe respiratory illness. In the past three weeks, it has spread from 12 states to 42 states plus D.C.

jayden.png
Jayden Broadway, 9 CBS NEWS
Nine-year-old Jayden Broadway started struggling for breath on a Friday afternoon. His mother Melissa Lewis says by the next day, she was rushing him to a Denver-area emergency room.
Lewis says it's "petrifying" to your child unable to breath. She says, "It is absolutely the scariest thing ever to see your child not be able to take a breath."
Doctors told Lewis her son had contracted the enterovirus D68. For most patients, the virus causes symptoms of the common cold. In children like Jayden with Asthma, symptoms can be more severe. Still, he was lucky. Doctors at the Children's Hospital Colorado have treated 10 children who came down with polio-like symptoms.

enwerner6.jpg
Dr. Teri Schreiner CBS NEWS
Dr. Teri Schreiner says it's not clear whether the virus is to blame. "It's very frustrating not to be able to give a good prognosis to these parents, who all of a sudden have a child with in some cases marked weakness of one or more of their limbs." She says it is potentially paralysis.
Health officials in Los Angeles reported a similar polio-like case Wednesday, of a child with the virus who also developed acute limb weakness.
When asked if she is concerned this is a bigger problem, Dr. Schreiner responds, "What I've heard from my colleagues is that new cases are being diagnosed in San Francisco, in Alabama, in Boston, in Kansas city, St. Louis. So I think that as we are learning more about this, we are going to find this is likely happening throughout the country."
Three children remain hospitalized at the Children's Hospital Colorado. Four patients nationwide who died, tested positive for the virus, but the CDC says it is not clear what role, if any, the virus may have played in their deaths.

TV/MoviesRHOA' Star Porsha Williams Demoted For Being A Pain In The Ass by dabrats(op): 4:15pm On Oct 02, 2014
Porsha Williams was demoted to being a "friend" on the upcoming season of "Real Housewives of Atlanta" after filming had begun ... because producers once again got fed up with her behavior.

According to our sources, Bravo had intended Williams to be a main castmember this season ... even after her monumental fight with Kenya Moore.

But when filming began, we're told Bravo tried to get Williams and Moore to talk things out, but Williams nearly fought her again. Our sources say Williams also went after new castmember Claudia Jordan.

Temper issues aside, we're told Williams also kept the show at arm's length and wouldn't reveal certain details of her personal life ... leaving producers with no story to tell.

Demetria McKinney is also recurring as a "friend" on the show, but our sources say the original plan was to have McKinney on full-time and Jordan on part-time ... but Jordan did so well, they flip-flopped them.
