Business / Alibaba And Amazon Topping Up On The List Of Merchants Accepting Bitcoin by dachicoin(f): 11:20am On Jul 06, 2017
Bitcoin has increasingly faced positive reception in many countries and this has made many merchants to consider adopting the currency. Being a giant cryptocurrency and being legally accepted by more countries such as Japan and Russia, Bitcoin is now taking up the merchant space.
Alibaba is next in line for accepting the currency. According to a survey that was done by Digital Currency Group, the Chinese market place will soon embrace the currency and hence Alibaba is obliged to accept the currency. What confirms that Alibaba will soon adopt the currency is the fact that there is a chance of the Japanese move to accept Bitcoin payments from the site.
Amazon on the other hand has been actively involved in the Blockchain space. Even though Amazon has not started accepting Bitcoin, there have been petitions on change.org urging Amazon to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment. There have been over 1500 petitions and chances are high that Amazon will not give a deaf ear to that. Some of the other major retailers that are currently accepting Bitcoin include:

Expedia

This is one of the giant travel booking agencies and has been one of the first companies to embrace Bitcoin as a form of payment. Users had the option of paying for hotel bookings with Bitcoin from June 2014. The company made this possible by teaming up with Coinbase to cushion itself against risks involved with dealing with Bitcoin directly.

Overstock

This was also one of the online retailers that started accepting Bitcoins; it has been doing this since January 2014. Just like Expedia, it partnered with Coinbase which mainly deals with Bitcoin exchanges. Buyers can basically buy anything and pay in form of Bitcoins.

eGifter

Through eGifter, users can buy gift card and pay through Bitcoin and use the gift card to shop for items they not on sites that do not accept Bitcoin as a form of payment. It’s kind of a bridge between Bitcoin enthusiasts and companies that do not accept Bitcoin as a form of payment. Good thing with the company is that it has a mobile app and hence you can purchase anything you want with Bitcoins from your phone.

Shopify

With Shopify, merchants can set up their stores on the ecommerce platform and sell their products. Shopify started accepting Bitcoin payments from November 2013. Unlike many stores that use Coinbase, Shopify uses BitPay for processing payments.

Conclusion

There are many other merchants that accept Bitcoins; those are just but a few. There is a high chance that there will be even more companies that will accept the currency as it is getting more and more accepted and Bitcoin user base is growing very fast. The fact that many ecommerce giants are accepting the currency is a game changer for the currency. As much as there are many other upcoming crypto currencies, it’s going to take a while for one to completely replace Bitcoin.

Nairaland / General / Poland’s Largest Food Delivery With 5000+ Restaurants Starts Accepting Bitcoin: by dachicoin(f): 1:14pm On Jun 28, 2017
Pyszne.pl is Poland’s largest service for ordering food online. In 2016, the site reported having approximately 883,000 active customers, 4.3 million orders, and an average order size of 9.55 euros. It has partnered with 5,062 restaurants, ranging from pizza, sushi, kebab, dumplings and other dishes, all of which offer delivery.

In 2014, Pyszne.pl was acquired by Takeaway.com, one of the largest online food ordering websites in the world. Headquartered in Amsterdam, Takeaway.com is active in 10 countries, has 28,800 restaurants, and 8.9 million active customers. Pyszne.pl is Takeaway.com’s fastest growing brand and the only one in Poland. In 2016, it grew 150% annually in terms of gross merchandise volume. Takeaway.com wrote:Poland [Pyszne.pl] continues to be our fastest-growing market delivering another year of triple-digit order growth…we have achieved twelve times order growth in Poland and cemented ourselves as the clear number one in a fast-growing market. Our brand is multiple times larger than the number two based on orders.
In addition, the company detailed, “Poland is also home to our fourth largest office,” which is located in Warsaw. “Our Polish business became our third largest market in 2016.”

Pay with Bitcoin

Pyszne.pl recently announced that it has started accepting bitcoin through Bitpay, beginning this month. In addition to bitcoin, customers have other options to pay such as with a credit card, online transfer, Sofort, and Paypal. Users of Pyszne.pl mobile application can also use Android Pay.

Takeaway.com already accepted bitcoin back in November 2013 through Bitpay, prior to acquiring Pyszne.pl in 2014. “Payments using bitcoins do not have a transaction fee,” according to Takeaway.com. However, the company noted that users must have their own bitcoin wallets to use the option. In comparison, there is a 6% fee for using credit cards or Paypal, and €1 for using Banconnect/Mister Cash. “These costs cover the costs that all banks charge for online payments,” the company’s website states, adding that for these options “there are also costs due to the processing of the payment.”

If an order is canceled before it is processed and payment was made using bitcoin, refunds will only be issued if an IBAN bank account number is provided. “If you paid for your order using bitcoin and the order is canceled, the refund is paid back to you in euros as your original bitcoin payment was converted into euros, ” the company explained.

Business / Who Controls Bitcoin? by dachicoin(f): 5:27pm On Jun 21, 2017
Satoshi created bitcoin so there would be DECENTRALIZED money. He then disappeared to ensure that he would not fall into the role of dictator.
Today's core developers follow in his footsteps of ensuring that decentralization is maintained.
Almost all the people behind the other altcoins, behind all of the ICOs and, worst of all, the people trying to corrupt bitcoin's decentralization itself have one objective only - their own wealth and power.
Bitcoin is meant not to have central controllers who fall into the delusion that they can benevolently wield power over the whole world. That is its value proposition. So anyone who tries to become the central controller through unilaterally changing the rules, through pre-mining coins, through releasing untested, unreviewed and unpredictable code, or through any other method, is destroying the principal principle behind bitcoin.
If you're out to get rich quick in terms of fiat value, there are hundreds of coins to choose from. Or, feel free to fork bitcoin and call it something else.
But everyone should know this - there will always be those who hold and use bitcoin precisely because it cannot be changed overnight by the whim of a powerful few. That is the power it gives us to be free from such an abuse of power.

In 2015, the number of merchants accepting bitcoin exceeded 100,000. Instead of 2–3% typically imposed by credit card processors, merchants accepting bitcoins often pay fees in the range from 0% to less than 2%
