@jethro Weldon, Here is the result gotten from cucumber murano 2 f1 planted in Ibadan. Sincerely I started my harvest 36 days after planting, it was stalk, so when I took it to market they just rush to buy.

Trust you all are doing great? I have been quite reluctant in putting up this post but I guess I just have to seeing that I was first motivated by the experiences of most of you here.

So my cousin & I decided to go into farming full scale lately & we took a loan from my dad.

Our first major challenge was land as the land we planned on using got submerged by water. We were to rent an acre of land. According to other farmers there, it happens once in four years. Since the water level might not go down anytime soon, we opted in getting a two plots of land somewhere close to the house.

We got some Yoruba guys to clear. That was our first mistake coz those guys made so much mouth but the clearing was nothing to write home about. We had to pay someone else to help us clear the land properly.

Next was getting the seeds, which we got at ADP at Oko-Oba.

After planting, we noticed not all of them germinated & we're guessing it's the depth in which we planted or maybe lack of water.

The plants are 2weekz old & we have sprayed herbicide on them. Earlier today, we tried wedding in preparation of spraying fertilizer next week.

Our major challenge now is that some plants are turning yellow while some are still small.

Please experts on water melon farming what do you think is the problem?

First I will like to thank you all Nairalanders, especially the agricultural section from pavore, Jethro, lordhugo, organicfarming, kizyte, soloxam, world 1, hybrid veggies, that thai cucumber man (can't remember his moniker) and all others.
I started following this section from Jethro tomatoes millionaire thread, then lordhugo cucumber and other experiments, then kizyte tomatoes garden. It was Jethro that first ginger my passion but her regular warning of "start small" and d fear of tuta absolutla slows/caution me down. Then kizyte brought his thread with that his clean garden. Wow, I said I can do this too and I started looking for seeds, I called soloxam for seed but I didn't follow it up but I decided to visit a agro shop in my area, the guy said he does not have tomatoes seed that if it's little I want I should just take from the one my wife wants to use for soup.
To cut the story short, I made my nursery July 15 or so, but my first pic was taken July 23

I am starting this thread basically for the following objectives

- To properly document the process of dry season Ugu farming.
- To pinpoint my challenges and process
- To help validate the viability of The SIF Project (I will talk about this project much later)
- To source professional contribution during the course of this process
- To show proven financial index (whether profit or loss) during the course of this process

These objectives outlined are not all inclusive but I hope it gives a thorough concept of what I aim to achieve.

I pray the thread will be beneficial to someone out there especially the unemployed youths who have passion for the agribusiness.

The teaching methodology will have a lot to do with pictorial statements so has to help drive the points better.

Starting tomorrow by God's grace, The process should be in top gear.

NOTE: I started this year's dry season ugu farming on the 1st November, 2016.

The land is about 1½plots. I harvested 64 bags. I bought 2 cans of Tokyo F1 @7k5 each from Soloxam and a bag was sold for 2k5 but my 3rd harvest was sold for 2k7/bag

I mix insecticide and Fungicide

I spray the plants but it's done at least 48 hrs befriending the day of harvest

U can spray the both together and you spray two weeks before harvesting, u avoid leaving residual effect on the fruit, u can also read user instruction on the insecticide container

fungicide is used against fungi diseases. insecticides against insects.

Pls,can i mix the two togetha and sprey it at the same time?...how do i sprey it in time of harvest,or which method i will use to sprey it,because of chemical that wil sprey cucumber fruit skin and its harmful eat for person

Pests and diseases

To prevent and control diseases and pests, I use insecticide a d Fungicide.

I spray insecticide at 4-5 days interval starting from after planting/before the plants sprout till harvest.

Fungicide is sprayed in that manner too but I usually start spraying it when the crop is more than 10 days whether infection or not.

Prevention they say is better than cure.

pls dnt be vex abt my question....Do u mix insecticite and fungicide together and spray it every four!four! interval or what?...please which method do u use to spray it in time of harvest?,because chemical wil be at the cucumber skin and its harmful like that. THaNKS
