If anything, it's RVP who deserves to be subbed off - he has done nothing so far.

Falcao has been lively..

this midfield has been terrible, no link between defence & attack.

take out Evans for Rafael, van Persie out for Herrera. switch to 4-3-3...

Carrick, Herrera & Mata in the middle. Young to the left, Rooney to the right & Falcao in the middle.

we are creating absolutely nothin
Exactly....

Another option is to bring Herrera on for Evans to partner carrick in MF. An attacking quartet of Rooney, mata, Rvp and falcao should do.

There are two positions there.

Valencia is the owner of RIGHT WING BACK.
Rafael is the owner of RIGHT BACK.

I think if Gaal gets a decent player like Dani Alves, both Val and Rafael will have to be substitute players in the right side of our defence.
For whatever reasons, the present dani alves isn't good enough to even compete with Rafael for whatever position (be it RB or RWB), let alone benching him.

At RWB sef, I'd even pick Valencia over the barca man.

what goal/assist range are you looking @ by the end of the season before you deem his spell successful?
Maybe a goal every game. grin

On a more serious note, the fitness/ injury issues viz a viz his age, is my main concern. If he manages to overcome both, I know he will perform.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Dadehmola:
SailorXY:
if Vidic was an unknown rookie, what of Evra? Berbatov? de Gea? Fellaini? if we got any remote test drives on these guys, they wouldn't have done nothing for this great club. the haste to pass judgment on Falcao is apparent in you folks, but again the timing is terrible. and what's this sudden talk of 'age'? what is your proof he's above 28 or whatever? how does it even matter if he's doing his thing well on the pitch? smh
•As regards the players you mentioned, we bought them based on the impressive forms they had at thier respective clubs. Falcao on the other hand, is a 29 year old who for one one reason or the other, hasn't really played football within the last 12 months, so I really don't see how his scenario correlates with the aforementioned players.

•The club decided to get falcao- a 28year old foward who's long term fitness was always gonna be in doubt, on a loan deal so as to give him a chance to prove his fitness and form before splashing out mega bucks on him (an intelligent thing to do, obviously). If for whatever reasons, he fails to do so at the end of the spell, why them should the club tie him down with a hefty contract at a high transfer fee?

• As you would have noticed, I asked if he should still be signed for 43m at the end of the season even if he fails to improve on his form, fitness and injury concerns - a testament to the fact that summer is the appropriate time to pass the final verdict. Dunno what you mean by "quick judgement", unless you feel that a season is too short for a such a player to prove his worth, considering why we even had him on loan in the 1st place.

• As for the age falsification issue, both of us don't really have the facts on board but it's definitely a factor that has to be keyed into consideration - the fact that his official age is 29, makes it worse.

SailorXY:
as far as I'm concerned, it is only Daley Blind that has really made his transition into Man United seamless & he too has recently been unavailable for a couple of weeks which is not his fault anyway.
The more reason why you shouldn't see it as a witch-hunt or whatever...

We are talking about spending big money on an ageing Mercedes S600 (2010-2012 model) that gave that us the performance of a 1987 Subaru during the test drive we were even fortunate to have in the 1st place. ( I really hope it doesn't turn out this way).

SailorXY:
so if you guys have your daggers & swords drawn on Falcao already (maybe because una dey eye him wages cheesy cheesy cheesy), & we should definitely "look elsewhere"; who is the world class forward you think LvG should be after?
That's why we have scouts. God forbid, if falcao continues this way till the end of the season, which other big club you think say go ready pay 43m for his services? It wouldn't just make any sense.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Dadehmola:
SailorXY:
yes we should.

its a case of being opportuned to test-drive before paying for a ride & sometimes that liberty helps you make wrong choices.
Exactly..

However, in this scenario, the opportunity to test drive falls under this loan spell of his. Why then should we spend 43m on a machine that, for some unfortunate reasons didn't match our requirements and expectations during the test drive?

SailorXY:
let's assume we test-drove Vidic for some months, will you pay two cents to keep him permanently? I don't think so, & truthfully nobody will blame ya @ the time.
Vidic was an unknown 7m rookie scouted from the Serbian league. If he didn't do well, it woulda even been easier for the club to dispense with him without much ado.

SailorXY:
the EPL can be a difficult place to adapt even for the most skilled players, & if we are to be honest to ourselves, Falcao has not been poor; except of course you want to factor his injuries - but even then, take a look @ the whole squad.
That's exactly the point...

Adapting to the rigors of the epl is always gonna be difficult even for top players who have been in top form. It's definitely gonna be worse for a 29year old (ignoring the age falsification scandal) struggling for form, fitness and injury issues. Why then should we go ahead to pay big money for such a player who failed to put these demons behind him, considering the fact that we were even lucky to get a "test-drive"?

Honestly, It's my wish to see him excel during this loan spell of his but if he continues to put in uninspiring shifts like we saw today, we may have to look elsewhere during the summer.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Dadehmola: 6:00pm On Dec 28, 2014
SailorXY:
you didn't have to lie. if he's had a poor game, it doesn't mean he's been short one 'when he plays'. Mata has had terrible off-days, same with van Persie, same with Smalling, same with di Maria, etc; yet these guys are integral part of this team & this goes to show that no player is perfect. unfortunately, everyone that had a chance today was off - Rooney, van Persie, Falcao, Mata all had glaring misses & Falcao's was not the worst we saw.

what this team sorely lacks going forward, is directness & pace - exactly what di Maria brings when on song. Young really did well but the moment he was moved to left winger, he became anonymously anonymous again. the more reason I'm not opposed to a Bale bid is cuz he's a perfect compliment on the other flank, & another option when di Maria is not available altogether.
If falcao continues like this till the end of the season, should we spend 43m on him?

Very impressive considering the position he is playing.

Although Falcao Movement has also been impressive, he shud have scored atleast a goal from those Ashley Young crosses. He also needs to sort his legs out quickly when he receives the ball.

PietroRico:
when did I say this?
Who brought reus into the issue in d first place undecided
I brought reus and Isco into the mix (as alternatives to bale). You then said Isco isn't a winger (and used the carzola example). Maybe I should do it this way ; what are the differences between Isco and reus and why do you think the German is more suitable as a winger (like bale is)?

I didn't mean to imply what you never said. No vex..

PietroRico:
so who were the expensive non mediocres that suares prevented them from buying?
Have u already adjudged shares to be a failure at Barcelona?
"Barca is in a position to buy four players," vice president Javier Faus told Catalunya Radio. "We have between 50 and 60 million euros net for signings." news.yahoo.com/barcelona-transfer-budget-60-million-euros-084033530.html

That interview took place at the end of last season. As you can see, Barca spent a large chunk of that money on a "player that must be bought when available". What was the result? They started chasing cheap defenders and a mediocre rakitic (when compared to fabregas).

If I may ask, Barca have spent around 130m on both neymar and Suarez. What have those "must buy when available" players contributed to the cause of the team as we speak?

PietroRico:
So he should get isco to be our winger. Lol.
And the isco would come for peanuts.
Great
Isco shouldnt cost more than half of what bale will cost, both in transfer fees and wages. We both know this.

PietroRico:
no. U meant completely cut off every time I've listed those players Rooney has always been the last. That should mean something to anyone that cab reason.
You listed the players that can be benched for bale and I expressed shock that a newly acquired 40m/300k player and the team's captain (who the gaffer has said must always play) are on the list. What's bad in that?

PietroRico:
again u are seriously derailing from the line of argument..
I'll draw u back.
-it's a rumour that doesn't even sound true
-we're assuming it were true he indeed is interested in coming
The messi analogy just doesn't cut it
Because he is neither available nor interested.
If he were then I wouldn't say no to him coming either.
Since you said we should flaunt our wealth at the slightest opportunity, we can as well start by triggering messi's release clause, afterall barca should be obliged to sell, if that happens.

PietroRico:
yea. young and Valencia would do just fine.
I have given you the other options on the table.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Dadehmola:
SailorXY:
of course Rooney is center forward, Falcao is a center forward. we may even end up needing just one per game. a 4-3-3 requires just one CF & so does a 4-2-3-1 depending on the type of defensive midfielder purchased
LVG said it clearly that rooney's best position, isn't as a CF (his selection has buttresses this on numerous occasions.) Fat boy himself has admitted that a midfield role could prolong his career. Playing him as a sole CF even looks more unlikely. #i may be wrong tho#

I stand to be corrected but it seems as rooney's days as CF are numbered.

SailorXY:
32 year old striker is where you want to hinge your hopes next season? I don't envy you.
and how exactly does bale solve this problem, bearing in mind that LVG has said rooney's best position isn't as a centre foward?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Dadehmola: 9:58pm On Dec 22, 2014
PietroRico:
don't even get me started on the reus issue.
Marco reus hasn't rejected us in the past. Bale shunned our advances in July last year. Wether you like it or not, it's the bitter truth.

PietroRico:
isco is no wide man!
Him and reus are not alike in any way.
again isco no winger. Its like calling carzola a winger.
Reus, no chance!!
Both are players who can function in the hole and can also do a job coming infield from the wings.

Ps; are you telling me reus is like bale? cheesy

PietroRico:
ffs!
Bale is not coming in place of any defender or midfielder ffs!

again, nobody is saying we should ignore the defence!
There's enough money to go round!
Then why did you use the barca example? Barca bought Suarez for 70m, only to settle for cheap mediocres like mathieu and vermalen as defenders grin

Pietro Rico.. Players like Suarez should be bought when available. What has Suarez added to that barca side as we speak? cheesy

PietroRico:
and it surprises me that u can't see the balance that bale would bring.
Why do u think lvg is running from deploying wingers with all his might? undecided
Or u think 352/diamond midfield is his philosophy? grin
He doesn't need a 160m on the wings before his philosophy can be implemented.

PietroRico:
I repeat for the 2333rd time, any other central attacking player be it rvp, mata, falcao or even rooney sacrificed for bale for the sake of balance would be worth it.
When you say sacrificed, I want to believe you mean "benched".

So you are actually suggesting that we pay 40m for falcao, (300k/week) only to start sacrificing him?

Or that captain rooney ( who has to play every game, according to the coach) should be benched?

*in elampiro's voice* ukwu!!!!!

PietroRico:
we need a quality wide. Man and bale is perfect. End of story.
The 300bn he'll cost shouldn't be our problem.
Like I said earlier, We can as well trigger messi's release clause, afterall, I can't imagine anybody preferring bale to messi under whatever circumstances.

PietroRico:
you would prefer to have valencia/young on the wings?
We don't need 100m gareth bale, period!!

You want LvG to ditch 3-5-2 huh?? let's say he uses 4-2-3-1

... ..... ... ... Falcao/RvP.... .... .... .. ..
Di Maria. ... Mata /Rooney... Valencia /Nani/Januzaj

huh Reallyhuh Getting Bale won't stop us from getting quality defenders
I have repeated myself too many times..

The present man utd side doesn't need a 100m winger.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Dadehmola: 9:05pm On Dec 22, 2014
PietroRico:
lol. And u think reus who had turned us down in favour of barca before he was betrayed by suares' signing, wouldn't do the same to us when madrid come calling?
Reus hasn't turned man united down before. All these hypothesis no be am.

PietroRico:
Isco is not even a wide man?
Isco can function as an inverted winger. The Reus you talked about isn't even the crossy-crossy winger anyways -both like to come infield and dictate proceedings.

PietroRico:
is cuadrado any better than zaha undecided
Reus or Isco should do, then..

PietroRico:
Abi na so 'rough diamonds' full everywhere nai madrid and even barcelona(inspite of the famous la masia ) dey spend millions year inn year out to stay at the top?
So you want us to spend millions on fowards but ignore pressing issues at the back and even midfield like barca have done? The way you are talking, I am sure you too woulda sanctioned the fabregas sale so as to create room for a worldclass foward like Suarez. Pray tell ; what effect is that having on barca as we speak? cheesy

PietroRico:
Did Barcelona really need suares?
Your answer lies in the question above. cheesy

PietroRico:
Did madrid need rodriguez?
And they sold who at what price?

PietroRico:
Forget those things jor.
If u have the financial clout, flaunt it!
Afterall we're not buying an ahmed musa for 50million.
Even if we can afford to do so, what's my business with it?
As you can see, I am more interested in having a balanced team while you are more concerned with flaunting of wealth and ostentatious purchases. That's the difference cheesy

PietroRico:
I know u have something against british 'talents' that'll xplain ur turning to arsene wenger overnight over the bale issue.
Gareth bale is one of the best players in the world. I just feel we don't need him at the moment. What does that gotta do with wenger and British talents?
