SportsAiteo Cup First Round Draw Holds On Friday by daeger(op): 4:57pm On Aug 10, 2017
AITEO Cup first round draw holds on Friday

The draw for the first round matches of this year’s AITEO Cup competition will hold in Lagos on Friday.

Thenff.com gathered that the first round matches, which will involve the 64 surviving teams following the Preliminary Round played last week, will hold on Wednesday, 16th August 2017.

The draw for the second round matches will take place on Friday, 18th August while the matches will come up on 30th August. The draw for the third round matches will be conducted on 31st August, while the matches will be played on 13th and 16thSeptember.

The draw for the quarter –finals and semi –final matches will hold on 14th September, with the quarter –final matches to come up on 20th and 23rdSeptember.  The semi –final matches are scheduled for 27th September and 4th October.

The grand final for the men’s event will take place on Sunday, 8th October, while the grand final for the women’s event has been scheduled for 2nd October.

As part of innovations to restore the glamour of the oldest football competition in the land, now bankrolled by Nigeria’s leading energy solutions company, AITEO, matches that end in a draw, from the first round, would not go into penalties as has been the case over the years.

NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, who is also secretary of the Organizing Committee, explained to thenff.com: “From the first round stage, teams would be designated A and B. Team A will have the prerogative to choose the centre for the match against Team B, from the pool of designated centres. If the match ends in a draw, Team B will now have the prerogative to pick a venue from the designated centres as its ‘home’ for the replay.

“This will apply to all matches from the first round stage.”

SportsSuper Eagles Coach Gernot Rhor Threatens To Resign by daeger(op): 5:58am On Jul 13, 2017
Rohr threatens to resign

•Cites interference by NFF

Super Eagles Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr is said to be seriously considering his position as head coach of the Nigerian national team and may tender his resignation as early as next week when he meets with the Nigerian federation leadership in Morocco during the CAF meetings.

The Franco-German tactician is said to be very bitter at the recriminations he has received from particular sections of the Nigerian football fraternity after the loss of the team at home to South Africa last month.

Sources close to the coach disclosed that Rohr is very frustrated at what he sees as ‘meddling’ in his work by the powerful Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation which seems to be making moves to curtail his power and hold on the team, and impose measures that he deems unnecessary.

“There was a showdown meeting between Rohr and the Technical Committee after the South Africa loss, after which the committee recommended certain things including vetting the list of players invited, and injecting new technical staff into the team, which the coach frowned upon,” the source stated.

“The Committee refuted this and claimed that there was no truth in the said moves, including ex-international Garba Lawal who publicly denied knowledge of any such deliberations.”

However, all seems not to be well, as the committee met again and stood by their position of including people in the Technical group of the ex-Bayern Munich defender, and calling for his actions to be scrutinised and approved prior to release.

Rohr has told friends he can’t work like this, and had sought reassurances from the leadership of the NFF failing which he will have no choice than to quit the position.

Nigeria occupies the top of its qualifying group for the World Cup of 2018, and a win in their next game, at home to Cameroon, will all but secure a 6th qualification for the epic global event, scheduled for Russia.

SportsRangers, shooting Stars In Titanic Battle For Point by daeger(op): 1:14pm On Jul 09, 2017
RANGERS, SHOOTING STARS IN TITANIC BATTLE FOR POINTS

Old football rivalry is about to be rekindled as league title holders, Rangers International FC hosts Shooting Stars FC on Sunday afternoon at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu.

It is one of the LMCNPFL MD 28 fixtures and fans of the two club sides are already looking forward to the usual trappings that occur anytime they meet.

No one can forget in a hurry, the dramatic end of their first leg clash in Ibadan when Shooting Stars scored a late minute goal to punish the Flying Antelopes who lost a penalty kick in 87' of the exciting encounter!

This is the background of Sunday's tie and fans cannot wait to see how it pans out.

The visiting Shooting Stars are hard hit. 32 points from 27 games played in 18th position is a dangerous relegation signal.

Right now, the fortunes of these two old club-sides in the country are nothing to write home about on the current league log.

As such, the Oluyole Warriors must up the ante and start winning some crucial points on the road to complement recent victorious home runs.

This, the club's Technical Adviser, Fatai Amoo expressed in a chat with www.3sc.com.ng on Saturday evening after the team's training session.

"We have to start winning from tomorrow. It's about making up our minds that other teams are winning away, why are we not? I think it has to do with our psyche"

However, Amoo sees the game as a big battle of old rivals with the belief that it could go either way.

"It's a battle of two arch rivals and whoever stand up to be counted will win that's why my players have to raise their game", he concludes.

Camp checks reveal a loaded, determined side with experience players in the likes of Ajani Ibrahim, Najeem Olukokun and Nonso Mbakwe and so on.

For Rangers FC, it is a game they are not toying with to reaffirm their recent resurgence after a turbulent period that consumed their league winning tactician, Imama Amamakpabo.

With just 35 points from 27 matches in 12th position, they need to put up a spirited fight against the visiting Oluyole rivals who are bent on repeating or surpassing last year's share of the spoils in a 1-1 scoreline.

Meanwhile, Rangers Spokesperson, Foster Chime says not this time round will the visitors survive it, as the Flying Antelopes would not loose it's guard.

"Shooting Stars should look elsewhere for points. What happened last session will not repeat itself and our players are ready to give a fight", Foster said.
