Four Teams shall be promoted to the NPFL from the Nigeria National League (NNL) from the ongoing 2018 season to compete in the 2018/2019 NPFL season. 4. The 2018/2019 NPFL season will commence in November 2018 with a total of 24 participating teams, which shall be divided into two groups of 12 teams each. The 2018/2019 Season commencing November 2018 will be played on 22 Match days ending with a Play off to determine the Winner by May 2019. 5. Three teams from each group (a total of six) will be relegated from the NPFL after the conclusion of the 2018/2019 season, while two teams will be promoted to the NPFL from the NNL 2019 Season. mammoth crowd at the Sani Abacha stadium venue of the Match4IDPs |
Police robs Boko Haram victims in Kano Police personnel who were drafted to take care of the security at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Thursday in the charity match between Africa Legends and former Nigeria league champions, Kano Pillars FC had a field day enriching their pockets through ticket racketting. The match which was organised to create awareness on the plight of the internally displaced persons across the country was sabotage by the policemen at the gate as they collected tickets from the fans and resold same to many others at a give away price. They were also said to have frustrated the gatekeepers by collecting money from many fans to gain access into the stadium. The stadium which was filled to capacity and an estimated gatetaking of over N15 million expected as generated revenue could not be realised as only N2.3million was declared by the stadium management. In a meeting to review the situation after the game, the organisers were informed that the stadium management connived with some thugs to pull down two popular side gates to cover up the fraud they perpetuated during the match while the police had a field day collecting money from the fans to enter the stadium. Usman Abba, the Sani Abacha stadium Assistant Manager, who was also the stadium and ticketing coordinator for the match, revealed that the police did not help matters with the way they behaved on the match day. He said he was shocked that the police helped many fans into the stadium after collecting money from them. Though he could not explain the case of the reprinted ticket, it was learnt that a personnel of the stadium, collected one of the tickets early hours of the morning for the purpose. The Coordinator of the Match4IDPs and Chief Executive Officer of OZ Consulting firm, Abi Goodman, said it was quite unfortunate that efforts were made to raise funds for the internally displaced persons across the country, those who were saddle with taking care of the security in the stadium, decided to rob the victims of Boko Haram insurgency through their actions. |

AITEO Cup: NFF reads riot act to match officials . ‘Mess up and get delisted’ . Only FIFA, elite referees to handle matches The Nigeria Football Federation has sent out a strong warning to all officials who would be assigned for matches of the 2017 AITEO Cup competition starting on Wednesday to perform creditably or have their names permanently struck off the list of arbiters in the country. Speaking after his committee’s meeting in Abuja on Monday, Chairman of the NFF Referees Committee, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Fresh told thenff.com that any referee found wanting would not only be thrown out of the vocation but could also face prosecution. “The NFF Referees Committee has decided to go tough on erring referees. For several years, we worked very hard to try and get sponsors for the oldest football competition in this country, but could not for one reason or the other. Now that we have one in AITEO, we will do everything humanly possible to guard that relationship jealously. “Any referee found to be involved in any shenanigan, or deemed to be outright incompetent or mischievous, will be summarily dealt with. We are tired of complaints about referees. We are ready to throw out as many as are found culpable, and will be ready to have only few competent and self –respecting persons take charge of matches,” Fresh stated on Monday. The NFF Executive Committee member also informed thenff.com that only Nigeria’s FIFA –badged (international) and elite referees would be handed shifts in the AITEO Cup competition beginning from Wednesday. “Only the FIFA referees and elite referees would be involved. No National League or Nationwide League officials. We want the best arbiters available to take care of the matches and give credibility to the competition. “The glamour of this much –loved competition must return in full force and in even greater glory.” Meanwhile, the Organizing Committee of the AITEO Cup has empathized with players and officials of Akwa United FC of Uyo, who were involved in a road mishap on the Umuahia-Enugu road on Monday, on their way to Hadejia for a Round of 64 clash with Halfa FC of Jigawa. “We want to sympathize with the Akwa United delegation involved in the mishap on their way to Jigawa State. As a result of this, we have resolved to move their match against Halfa FC to Thursday,” NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, who is also secretary of the Committee, told thenff.com. Also on Monday, the organizers moved the clash between Bayelsa United FC and FC Zamfara, earlier slated for Port Harcourt, to Nembe Stadium, just as the match between Ngwa FC of Ebonyi and FC Galadima of Kebbi will now hold at the Abakaliki Township Stadium. Organizers passed the two stadia fit to host the matches, which will come up on Wednesday. *Transfer window 'to shut before start of Premier League seasons'* The Premier League is reportedly expected to give the green light to a proposal calling for the summer transfer window to close before the start of the season. As it stands, clubs in England are allowed to buy and sell players until the end of August, which on this occasion is almost three weeks after the season has begun. According to The Telegraph , the majority of representatives from the 20 Premier League clubs will vote for a new deadline to be implemented ahead of the 2018-19 season. It is believed that Watford are one of a few clubs against the idea of an earlier cut-off point, but a majority vote of more than two thirds is expected to push the proposal through. Numerous managers have called for changes in the transfer window to be implemented, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp telling reporters today that it would have helped his team if the market was closed before last Saturday's kickoff. The current rule means that the window will not slam shut until August 31. http://amp.sportsmole.co.uk/football/liverpool/transfer-talk/news/premier-league-to-change-transfer-deadline_304914.html
