Proverbs 28:2

HYMN 22: SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER

1 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
that calls me from a world of care,
and bids me at my Father's throne
make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
my soul has often found relief,
and oft escaped the tempter's snare
by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

2 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
the joys I feel, the bliss I share
of those whose anxious spirits burn
with strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
where God my Savior shows his face,
and gladly take my station there,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

3 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
thy wings shall my petition bear
to him whose truth and faithfulness
engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since he bids me seek his face,
believe his word, and trust his grace,
I'll cast on him my every care,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Answers and Explanations

1. Correct Answer: C) God's presence.
The devotional explicitly states that David expressed a much greater desire for "God's presence" than for physical food and water, even in the wilderness.

2. Correct Answer: B) An angel, a man, and His Spirit.
The devotional lists these three as the instruments God used to provide the eunuch with the answers he desired.

3. Correct Answer: C) Their hunger for Him.
The message directly states, "God feeds you in proportion to your hunger for Him."

4. Correct Answer: D) The desperation and hunger God wants us to have for Him.
The devotional uses this parable to illustrate that God wants us to be desperate and hungry for Him, just as the man was for the treasure.

5. Correct Answer: B) Dusty roads.
The devotional mentions "dusty roads" in the context of the eunuch's journey, but it describes a wilderness as being "characterised by a lack of food and water," and being a "dry and thirsty land."

THEME:  BLESSED ARE THE HUNGRY

MEMORISE:

Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. Luke 6:21

READ:  Acts 9:27-39

27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.

28 And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem.

29 And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him.

30 Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.

31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.

32 And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda.

33 And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy.

34 And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.

35.And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.

36.Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.

37.And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.

38 And for as much as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.

39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

MESSAGE

O God, thou art my God; early will i seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
Psalm 63:1

The Scripture above was written by David in the wilderness of Judah. A wilderness is often characterised by a lack of food and water, and even though David might have been hungry and thirsty, he expressed a much greater desire for something more than food and water-God's presence. No wonder God called David a man after His own heart (Acts 13:22).

In today's Bible reading, we read about the Ethiopian eunuch who had travelled many miles to Jerusalem to worship God. However, he had many questions as he was returning to his home country. As he travelled on the dusty roads of Gaza, an angel spoke to Phillip and told him to position himself on the road the eunuch was travelling on.
As Phillip stood by the road, the Holy Spirit gave him an additional instruction to move closer to the man's chariot. God was so interested in the eunuch that He moved everything - an angel, a man, and His Spirit- to give him the answers he desired (Acts 8:2 6-40). This is what happens when God sees genuine hunger for Him in the life of a fellow. He will never let the hungry go away without being filled, and He will always fill them with good things (Luke 1:53).
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Matthew 5:6
God feeds you in proportion to your hunger for Him. Psalm 42:7 says, "...deep calleth unto deep.."When you really want to go deep in God, your hunger will attract the resources you need to go deep. A hungry and thirsty fellow is one who is desperate for food and water. In the same vein, God expects us to hunger and thirst for His power and glory. He expects us to desperately pursue Him and seek intimacy with Him. Jesus gave a parable in Matthew 13:44-46 that the Kingdom of God is like a man who found treasure in a field and sold all that he had so he could buy that field and own the treasure. Just like that man in the parable, God wants you to be hungry for Him so you can be filled and reflect more of His glory on the earth.

REFLECTION

Are you truly hungry for God?

THEME:  BANISH LAZINESS

MEMORISE:

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. Proverbs 10:4

READ: Proverbs 6:6-11

6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

MESSAGE

God rewards those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6); He does not reward the lazy. If vou want to be successful, then you must be diligent. land one of my friends got born again at a time when making positive confessions was becoming popular among Christians. At that time, the popular teaching was, 'All you need to do is to say what you want repeatedly, and it will be yours.

This friend of mine was very diligent with making these positive confessions. He would wake up in the morning and say, "I have a brand new car, in the mighty name of Jesus." Five years later, he was yet to own a car. One day, he asked me, "What's your secret? I've been making positive confessions without tangible results." I replied, "You wake up at 10 am in the morning, and at that time, I would have already put in five hours of work. Also, instead of working, you start making confessions. l'm sorry, but you will keep walking everywhere you go for a long time to come if you don't change."

Some people have become so attached to motivational speaking. They are usually the first to register for conferences; however, when it is time to put in the work, they are often nowhere to be found. No amount of confessions or unapplied knowledge can turn a lazy fellow into a high flyer. A fellow who doesn't wake up every day to make positive confessions or listen to smooth-talking motivational speakers will still succeed if he or she knows how to work hard.

Although I'm in my 80s, I still go about doing God's work diligently. When many other people are sleeping, I am walking about at night, praying. I don't preach shallow sermons; if you listen to my sermons, you will notice that I make reference to many Bible passages. These things don't come by just loafing around. Success in life is not automatic; being born a prince or princess does not mean that a fellow will succeed in life. No matter how much wealth a fellow inherits, if he or she is lazy and refuses to put in the work to multiply the wealth, that fellow will eventually squander everything and begin to suffer. Proverbs 18:9 says that a lazy person is a brother to him who is a great waster.
Beloved, laziness will make you waste privileges. lt will also make you unprepared to maximise opportunities. Do not give laziness a chance; banish it from every area of your lie.

KEY POINT

Laziness will make you unprepared for opportunities and cause you to waste privileges.

HYMN 4: TO THE WORK, TO THE WORK

1 To the work! to the work! we are servants of God,
Let us follow the path that our Master has trod;
With the balm of His counsel our strength to renew,
Let us do with our might what our hands find to do.

Refrain:
Toiling on, toiling on,
Toiling on, toiling on:
Let us hope, let us watch,
And labor till the Master comes.

2 To the work! to the work! let the hungry be fed;
To the fountain of life let the weary be led;
In the cross and its banner our glory shall be,
While we herald the tidings, "Salvation is free!" [Refrain]

3 To the work! to the work! there is labor for all;
For the kingdom of darkness and error shall fall;
And the name of Jehovah exalted shall be,
In the loud-swelling chorus, "Salvation is free!" [Refrain]

4 To the work! to the work! in the strength of the Lord,
And a robe and a crown shall our labor reward;
When the home of the faithful our dwelling shall be,
And we shout with the ransomed, "Salvation is free!" [Refrain]

THEME: FAITH WITHOUT WORKS

MEMORISE:

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. James 2:17

READ: James 2:20-26

James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

James 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

James 2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

MESSAGE

Years ago, some Christian students in a particular university came to me and said, “We don’t know what is going on. Those of us who are in the fellowship are always the ones failing.” I replied them, “This might be because, at the time you are supposed to be studying, you are in the fellowship.”
They said, “Is it not written that the Holy Spirit will help us?” I responded, “Thank God for the Holy Spirit, but the Bible says that the Holy Spirit will remind you of the things you have learnt.
However, if you do not learn anything and end up failing, after He chastises you, He will comfort you.”

Beloved, to walk in God’s blessings, faith must go hand-in-hand with works. For example, in Luke 5:1-9, Jesus came to Peter, who had a boat and asked him to lend Him the boat for a while. After preaching from the boat, Jesus told Peter to cast his net into the sea for a catch. If Peter had not cast his net, he would not have seen the glory of God. If he had just said, “I believe you, Jesus.
I know You can do all things,” and had refused to obey the simple instruction, he would have returned home empty-handed that night.

Instead, he said, “At thy word – because You have spoken to me – I will do what You say.” He took a step of faith and did the work of throwing his net into the sea. Then, he caught so many fishes that his net broke. People who add works to their faith experience ‘net-breaking’ miracles.

Another example of someone in the Bible who added works to their faith is the woman with the issue of blood in Luke 8:43-48. She did not just stop at knowing that Jesus carried the healing anointing, she forced her way through a large crowd just to touch the hem of His garment.
The result was that she was instantly healed of a sickness she had suffered from for 12 years.

If you are not doing anything in line with the faith you claim to have, that faith is dead. You cannot sit in your house and pray for a job when you are not applying for any. Likewise, you cannot be trusting God for a visa to another country when you do not even have an international passport. Bring your faith to life by adding works to it; faith without works is dead.

Action Point

Take steps of faith concerning the things you are trusting God for.

feed me now and evermore,

Let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through.
Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer,
ever be my strength and shield,
ever be my strength and shield.

3 When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside.
Death of death, and hell's Destruction,
land me safe on Canaan's side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises
I will ever sing to you,
I will ever sing to you.

THEME: ALLOW NO BARRIERS TO THE GOSPEL

MEMORISE:

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;Isaiah 61:1

READ: 1 Corinthians 9:16-17(KJV)

16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

MESSAGE
People keep asking why The Redeemed Christian Church of God is so successful all over the world. As a matter of fact, we are in some nations where Christianity is not allowed.

In some of these nations, we baptise people secretly, and whenever we want to talk about the blood of Jesus, we say BOJ. We have had considerable impact in some of these nations because we did not allow anything deter us from spreading the gospel. We hold Bible Study meetings in open fields and miracles happen. Sometimes, the political leaders in such places come quietly at night, acknowledging that our God is the Almighty.

There was once a lady evangelist and missionary who was working in a village in Africa. In that village, she got everybody to become born again. The people realised what God had done for them, and they were on fire for Him. The lady then decided to convert those in the neighbouring village too. She informed the people around her about her plans, but they were not in favour of it. “You can go to another village, ma’am, not there,” they advised. She asked, “Why not?” They replied, “Because there are lions on the way.

We have been hearing them roaring, and when they roar like that, it means they are hungry.

Please, don’t go near that village.” “But I must go,” she insisted.

So, a very elderly and feeble man said to her, “Okay, if you must go, I will go with you.” The evangelist looked at him and said, “If a lion attacks, even I can defend myself better than you can.” The man said, “You don’t understand; lions don’t attack when they are full. They only kill when they are hungry. So, the idea is this: I will walk ahead of you, the lions will kill and eat me, and then your way will be clear.” Those villagers were ready to lay down their lives for the gospel to reach the unreached.

Beloved, God will not be asking you for too much by telling you to preach to your boss, for instance. However, if you are afraid you might lose your job and refuse to do it, you will be hindering an unsaved soul from hearing the gospel and becoming saved. Do not let any barrier keep you from preaching the gospel;

God is counting on you to prevent many people from heading towards eternal damnation.

Action Point

Always use every opportunity you have to tell people about Jesus.

2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.

MESSAGE

In 2 Samuel 6:14, the Bible says that David danced with all his might. God loved David so much and was always with him because he was always praising Him. Whenever demons tormented Saul and David played the harp, God's presence would till the room, and the demons would run away (l Samuel 1623). Psalm 22:3 says that God inhabits the praises of Israel. When you praise God regularly. demons cannot stay around you because once light comes in, darkness must flee john 1:5.

Beloved, you must learn to praise God daily. In the Scriptures, you find many reasons to praise Him. In Genesis 17:i, Got calls Himself Jehovah El-Shaddai, the God who is more than enough. In Exodus 17:15, He is called Jehovah Nissi, your mighty banner of deliverance. In Isaiah 12:4, He is Jehovah Sabaoth, the Lord of hosts; He fight visible and invisible battles on your behalf and gives you victory over the enemy.

According to Ezekiel 48:35, He is Jehovah Shammah, the ever-present One, He is always there when you need Him, and He never slumbers or sleeps (Psalm 121:4). He is the Alpha and Omega of your life (Revelation 21:6; He always has the first and final say. (Isaiah 44:6), He alone is God (Psalm 86:10). He is always good (Psalm 73:1), ever faithful (Lamentations 3:23) all-sufficient (Genesis 17:1) and never changing (Malachi 3-6). God is your comforter (John 14:16), deliverer (2 Samuel 22:21), helper (Psalm 54:4), teacher (John 1426,) strength, and song (Exodus 15:2). He is your very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). rescues us from all our foes.

Correct Answers
1. b. That God can use anyone, regardless of their past.

* The devotional quotes Acts 5:14-16, which states that people placed the sick on the streets so that Peter's shadow would fall on them, and they would be healed.

* The message section of the devotional explicitly states that the woman used "a bottle of oil and a handkerchief we had prayed over during the service" to bring her daughter and twins back to life.

4. c. Bringing a person's shadow to heal the sick.
* While the devotional mentions Peter's shadow healing the sick, this specific sign is not listed in the provided scripture, Mark 16:17-18. The verse lists casting out devils, speaking in new tongues, and laying hands on the sick.

5. c. To surrender yourself to God and believe that He can use you to do great things.
* The prayer point is "Father, I believe in You, and I surrender myself for Your..." and the devotional concludes by encouraging the reader to be "confident of His ability in you" to perform great things. This aligns with surrendering and believing in God's power to work through you.

THEME: GOD CAN USE YOU

MEMORISE: Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. Mark 9:23

READ: Mark 16:17-18

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

MESSAGE

Paul persecuted Christians and threw some of them in prison (Acts 8:3). He considered himself the chief of sinners (1 Timothy 1:15); however, God transformed him and began to use him to perform special miracles (Acts 19:11-12). If God could use Paul, He can use you too. Acts 5:14-16 tells us that people laid the sick on the streets of Jerusalem so that whenever Peter was passing by, his shadow would fall on them, and they would be healed. This was the same Peter who denied Jesus three times, but God restored him and began to use him mightily. If God could use Peter, He can use you too.

We were having a Holy Ghost Service at Redemption City when a woman got a phone call that her daughter had given birth to a set of twins, and she and the twins had died. The woman responded, "Don't move them yet: please wait for me." She ran to the hospital and asked to see the twins -she was shown their dead bodies. She took a bottle of oil and a handkerchief we had prayed over during the service, dropped some of the oil in the mouth of one of the dead twins, and said, "Come back here; who told you that you could die?" Within a few minutes, the baby coughed and came back to life. She did the same with the second baby, and the same thing happened. After this, the entire hospital was in pandemonium. Around that time, her daughter's body was being wheeled to the mortuary. She told those wheeling the body to stop, dropped some oil in her dead daughter's mouth, put the handkerchief on her, and said, "Who do you think is going to take care of your children? Don't waste my time; come back!" Immediately, her daughter came back to life and sat up. God used her to bring three people back to life in
one day. Beloved, God can use you to perform miracles too.

Today's Bible reading says that these signs shall follow them that believe: they shall cast out devils, speak with new tongues, lay hands on the sick, and bring healing to them by using the name of Jesus. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you are the perfect candidate for God to use to perform signs and wonders. Be confident of His ability in you, and He will do great and marvelous things through you in the mighty name of Jesus.
