PRAYER POINTS ON "WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET"

Father, thank you for the gift of vision and for the powerful truth that what I see is what I get. Thank you for the promise that you give me all the land that I can see. In Jesus' name.

Lord, I repent of every negative and faithless thought that has limited your promises in my life. Forgive me for seeing defeat, lack, and impossibilities instead of your mighty power. In Jesus' name.

Father, open my spiritual eyes to see what you have promised me in your Word, not what my circumstances are showing me. Help me to see abundance, health, and victory, even when things look bleak. In Jesus' name.

I pull down every stronghold of doubt and fear in my mind. I refuse to see myself as a grasshopper in the face of giants. I declare that I am more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus. In Jesus' name.

Lord, help me to see my marriage through your eyes—a beautiful union filled with love, joy, and peace, not a place of strife and despair. In Jesus' name.

I pray that you will give me the vision to see my career not as a struggle, but as a platform for your glory and a source of blessing and abundance. In Jesus' name.

Father, I declare that I will see my children as mighty arrows in your hand, destined for greatness and not for destruction. In Jesus' name.

I reject every evil report and every word of hopelessness concerning my health, finances, and family. I choose to believe and stand on your promises alone. In Jesus' name.

Lord, help me to consistently renew my mind with your Word so that my vision is always aligned with your will and promises. In Jesus' name.

I pray for the grace to be like Caleb and Joshua, who saw your mighty ability and not the giants. Help me to have an unshakeable faith that focuses on you alone. In Jesus' name.

Father, I decree and declare that I am walking into the land flowing with milk and honey that you have prepared for me. I will possess it and inhabit it. In Jesus' name.

I pray for the courage to talk and confess what I see, not what my circumstances dictate. Let my words be a reflection of your promises. In Jesus' name.

Lord, I ask for a fresh infilling of your Holy Spirit to empower my vision and faith. Let the Spirit’s sword cut down every negative perception. In Jesus' name.

I pray for Pastor E. A. Adeboye. Thank you for his life and for the wisdom he imparts through the Open Heavens devotional. Continue to grant him divine health, strength, and an unending flow of wisdom to lead your people. In Jesus' name.

My personal prayer point: [Add your specific prayer point here, such as asking for a specific vision for your life, family, or business, or for help to overcome a spirit of negativity and doubt.]

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the assurance that as I see with the eyes of faith, I will get everything you have promised me. I declare that my vision is fixed on you and your Word. In Jesus' name. Amen.

THEME: WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET

MEMORISE: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
Genesis 13:15

READ: Numbers 13:16-33
16 These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.

17 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:

18 And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;

19 And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;

20 And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.

21 So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.

22 And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

23 And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

24 The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence

25 And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.

26 And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.

27 And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

28 Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

29 The amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.

30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

31 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

MESSAGE
God and Abraham had a conversation one night in Genesis 15:3-6, and Abraham reminded God that He had not given him an heir in response, God told him to go outside and see if he could count the stars, He then told him that his children would be as many as the stars. You might wonder, “Why did God have to tell Abraham to go outside and look at the stars? Why didn’t He just tell him that his descendants would be so many that it would be impossible to count then?” I believe it was because God needed Abraham to see what he would be getting.

Similarly, in Genesis 13:14-17, God told Abraharn, “All the land you see shall be yours.” He also said, “Move away from where you are, walk through the land as far as you can, and it shall all be yours.” God knew that for Abraham to own the land, he had to first have a vision of it. In any situation you find yourself, what you see is what you will get. In an economy where people complain that things are tough, if you see poverty, that is what you will get; likewise, if you see abundance, you will experience it. In a situation where doctors say there is no hope, if you see life, you will have life. All you have to do is regulate your faith to see only what Jesus has promised you, and that is what you will get.

In today’s Bible reading, Moses sent the twelve spies to check out the land of Canaan, and they came back with reports. While Caleb and Joshua saw themselves inhabiting the land, the remaining ten spies saw giants and a land that swallowed up its inhabitants. Joshua and Caleb saw God’s mighty ability, but the others saw themselves as grasshoppers. In the end, everyone got what they saw. The ten spies were swallowed up in the wilderness while Joshua and Caleb got into the land and inhabited it (Numbers 32:11-12).

Beloved, what do you see in your life, marriage, or career? Whatever you see is what you will get. If you see victory, you will walk in it. However, if you see defeat, you will experience it. God wants you to see correctly, and the only way to do this is to know what He says in His word. What has God said about your home, children, career, health, and life? Believe His promises concerning you, and they shall come to pass.

KEY POINT
No matter the circumstances that surround you, stand by what God has promised in His word.

‎HYMN 11: STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD
1 Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God

Chorus
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

2 Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

3 Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.

4 Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.

5 Standing on the promises I shall not fall,
List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call.
Resting in my Savior as my All in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

THEME: ANSWER THE DOOR

MEMORISE: Behold, stand at the door, and knock: If any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20

READ: John 10:27-28
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

MESSAGE
Today’s memory verse says that Jesus is standing at the door of your heart right now, knocking and waiting for you to let Him in. Every time you hear a word from God that convicts you of sin, that is Jesus saying, “Let me into your heart so I can cleanse your heart of sin.” You have no idea what Jesus Christ can do for you when you let Him into your heart. The moment you let Jesus in; your past will no longer determine your future- only Jesus will. With Jesus living in you, your future will only get brighter and brighter (Proverbs 4:1 cool.

You may say, “I already let Jesus into my heart some time ago.” That is good, but do you still get convicted of certain sins when you listen to a sermon or read your Bible? If yes, that means there are some parts of your life that Jesus hasn’t taken over yet, and He is knocking on the door of your heart so you can let Him in. There is no partial salvation; Ephesians 5:27 says that Jesus is coming for a bride without blemish or wrinkle. If there’s still a blemish in your life, surrender it completely to Jesus Christ today.

You may also say, “I have a good relationship with Jesus.” However, there is more. David described a relationship with God as a journey into the deep. He said, “Deep calleth unto deep.” (Psalm 42:7). After walking, eating, and talking with Jesus during His earthly ministry for three and a half years, John saw Him in a vision in Revelation 4:1, and Jesus told him, …Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.”

There are always higher realms in God, and Jesus is standing at the door of your heart, knocking and calling you to come up higher. It is not enough to just confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior; there is more. God wants you to operate in His miraculous power (Mark 16:17-18). He wants you to be an agent of change, but you need the power of the Holy Spirit to do that. There will always be higher doors to enter and deeper realms to access in God.

Beloved, Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart today. He is calling you to higher and deeper levels in your relationship with Him. Open your heart to Him; He will beautify your life with His glory and make you an agent of change for His kingdom.

PRAYER POINT
Lord Jesus, I open my heart to You. Please lead me into more glorious levels in You, in Jesus’

HYMN 23: TAKE MY LIFE AND LET IT BE
1 Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

2 Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3 Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.

4 Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose,
Every power as Thou shalt choose.

5 Take my will, and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne
It shall be Thy royal throne.

6 Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.

THEME: HAVE YOU ENCOUNTERED JESUS?

MEMORISE: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

READ: Acts 9:1-6
1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,

2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:

4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

MESSAGE
One can easily assume that everyone who attends church regularly or functions in a department within a church has encountered Jesus. However, in my experience, I have realized that many people are working hard in the Lord’s vineyard but haven’t had an encounter with Him. They know a lot about Him, but they don’t know Him. Paul thought he knew God until the day he had an encounter with Jesus Christ.

When you truly meet Jesus, you will become a completely new person. Before Paul met Jesus, he persecuted believers. However, when he met Him, his story changed. In 1 Timothy 1:13-16, he spoke about his horrible past as a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an injurious person, and how he obtained mercy from God. In Christ, he became a Chief Apostle (2 Corinthians 11:5) and fulfilled his destiny (2 Timothy 4:6- 7).

Peter was just another fisherman from Galilee before he met Jesus. However, when he met Jesus, he was given a glorious destiny (Luke 5:10). Even when he failed and denied Jesus, his future was still secure because of his encounter with Jesus. When a man meets Jesus, his failures and weaknesses become part of his success story because God works all things together for his good. (Romans 8:28).

Isaiah thought he knew God until he had an encounter in Isaiah 6 that changed his life. When he saw the Lord in His glory, he fell on his face and cried, …Woe is me! For I am undone; because l am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts” (Isaiah 6:5). After meeting the Lord, Isaiah was willing to go wherever the Lord sent Him. When you truly meet Jesus, all your excuses will be burnt away like chaff.

Beloved, if you genuinely want to meet Jesus, make it mandatory for yourself to study God’s word every day. Revelation 19:13 says that He is the Word of God. When you study the word of God, you are fellowshipping with Jesus Christ. The more of God’s word you study, the closer you will get to Him. It will be difficult at first because the devil will try to stop you, but as you keep at it, you will discover that you are being transformed because you are getting to know the Son of God for yourself.

PRAYER POINT
Lord Jesus, please reveal Yourself to me in Your word. I want to know You more and follow You for the rest of my life.

HYMN 2: AMAZING GRACE
1 Amazing grace! How sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch; like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

2 ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear.
The hour I first believed!

3 The Lord hath promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures.

4 When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we first begun.

Lord, I repent of every form of laziness and procrastination that has caused me to miss my opportunities. Forgive me for being unprepared and for relying on luck instead of preparation. I receive the grace to be diligent and proactive. In Jesus' name.

Father, open my eyes to see the divine opportunities you are sending my way. Help me to discern them, even when they come in an unassuming or challenging package, just as David's opportunity came in the form of a battle. In Jesus' name.

I pray for the courage to seize my moment of opportunity. Just as David was fearless and confident in his identity in God, I ask for a bold spirit to step into my calling and to face every Goliath. In Jesus' name.

Lord, I ask for the grace to prepare now for my future breakthroughs. Help me to diligently develop my skills, character, and faith, so that when my "big day" comes, I am not found wanting. Help me to do my part while I trust you to do yours. In Jesus' name.

Father, I pray for Pastor E. A. Adeboye. Thank you for his life and for the wisdom he imparts through the Open Heavens devotional. Continue to grant him divine health, strength, and an unending flow of wisdom to lead your people. In Jesus' name.

My personal prayer point: [Add your specific prayer point here, such as asking for a specific opportunity you are preparing for, for the discipline to study or work hard, or for help in overcoming a challenge that is hindering your preparation.]

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the assurance that my race is not dependent on my own strength, but on your divine timing and my diligent preparation. I declare that I will be ready when my appointed time arrives and I will walk into my destiny. In Jesus' name. Amen.

MEMORISE: | returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; Ecclesiastes 9:11

READ: 1 Samuel 17:12-50
12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehemjudah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men for an old man in the days of Saul.

13 And the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.

14 And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.

15 But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.

16 And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
17 And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren;

18 And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.

19 Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.

20 And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle.

21 For Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army.

22 And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren.

23 And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them.

24 And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.

25 And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? Surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.

26 And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?

27 And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.

28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? And with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

29 And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

30 And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.

31 And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.

32 And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.

33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.

34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:

35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.

36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.

37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

38 And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.

39 And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

40 And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.

41 And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.

42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.

43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.

45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands.

48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

MESSAGE
There is a popular saying that good luck is when opportunity meets preparation – this is very true. A person can dream about achieving a particular feat. But if he or she does not prepare adequately towards this, when the opportunity comes, the fellow will be caught unawares, and it will become obvious that he or she never prepared for it. In today’s Bible reading, you will observe that David had been preparing himself for war while he was in the desert tending sheep. He had no weapons, but he continually trained until he mastered how to use a sling perfectly. His lucky day came when he encountered Goliath and defeated him with just one swing of his sling.

So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him. But there was no sword in the hand of David. 1 Samuel 17:50

Unlike David, Rehoboam wasn’t prepared for the throne of Israel. Although he was the son of King Solomon, who many consider to be Israel’s wisest king, he was very foolish. He was the heir to the throne, and it would have been expected that he would have been preparing for the day he would become king. Unfortunately, he wasn’t prepared for something that he knew was coming, and he failed (2 Chronicles 10:1-19).

When a student knows that a school examination is coming and he or she doesn’t prepare, such a student can be said to be foolish. As a member of staff in an organization, when a fellow knows that there will be regular appraisals and doesn’t do his or her job well, that fellow is foolish and cannot be promoted. If a pastor who knows that he or she will preach a message on Sunday does not fast, pray, or study for the message, he or she is the devil hindering his or her own growth. When the time for a big breakthrough comes in your life, I pray that you will be prepared, in Jesus’ name.

Today’s memory verse says that time and chance happens to human beings on the earth. This means that every human being on the earth will have opportunities to advance in life. However, only those who are prepared will recognize those opportunities when they come and maximize them.

Beloved, you must continuously increase your capacity, especially in areas you are seeking advancement so that when opportunities come your way, you will be prepared to make the best of them.

REFLECTION
What are you doing now to prepare for the day your big opportunity comes?

HYMN 26: THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS
1 There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.

Refrain
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need;
Mercy-drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

2 There shall be showers of blessing—
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain.

3 There shall be showers of blessing;
Send them upon us, O Lord!
Grant to us now a refreshing;
Come, and now honor Thy Word.

4 There shall be showers of blessing;
O that today they might fall,
Now as to God we’re confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!

5 There shall be showers of blessing,
If we but trust and obey;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
If we let God have His way.

The correct answers for the questions based on the devotional "Simple Obedience" are:

1. Correct Answer: B - Being a doer of the word and a hearer.
* Rationale: The devotional's memory verse, James 1:22, explicitly states, "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." The core message is that true faith requires action and obedience, not just passive listening.

2. Correct Answer: C - To ignore the gauge and keep driving.
* Rationale: In the story, God directly instructed Pastor Adeboye to "take your eyes off the gauge and keep driving." This act of simple obedience, against all logical reasoning, led to a miraculous outcome.

3. Correct Answer: B - He took up his bed and walked after Jesus' instruction.
* Rationale: The man had been ill for 38 years, waiting for the water to stir. His healing came not from the pool but from his immediate obedience to Jesus' command: "Rise, take up your bed and walk."

4. Correct Answer: C - Trusting and obeying God's instructions.
* Rationale: The devotional's "KEY POINT" section directly states, "The key to being successful is simply God’s instructions." The entire message, including the hymn "Trust and Obey," reinforces this principle.

5. Correct Answer: B - It is important to trust the advice of people who have more experience.
* Rationale: The devotional uses this story to illustrate the importance of obeying instructions, even when they come from a person. Pastor Adeboye's successful trip was a direct result of him listening to and obeying the directions given by someone who had experience with airport procedures.

MESSAGE

Many years ago, I went to preach in Onitsha, a town in South-Eastern Nigeria. On my way back to Lagos, I needed to refuel my car, so I stopped at Asaba to buy some fuel. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get any. I kept driving until l got to Benin, but I still couldn’t get any fuel to buy. I continued my journey until I got to Ore. By then, the car’s fuel tank was on reserve. I didn’t know what to do. It was a Sunday evening, and I had to give some lectures the next morning. Then, God spoke to me, “Son, take your eyes off the gauge and keep driving.” I drove the car on reserve fuel from Ore until I parked in my house in Surulere (over 200km). God can bring something out of nothing, but for you to enjoy His blessings, you must be obedient to Him. When He says go, you should go, and when He says stop, you must stop. Proverbs 3:5 says that you should not lean on your own understanding.

In John 5:2-9, there was an account of a man who had been ill for thirty-eight years. Jesus saw him lying by a pool and asked him, “Do you wish to get well?” The sick man answered, “Sir, I have no man to put me in the pool when the water is troubled.” Jesus then said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” Immediately, the man became well and began to walk. His simple obedience to Jesus’ instruction to rise and take up his bed broke the bondage he was in for thirty-eight years. No matter how long a problem has existed, once God sends His word and you obey Him, you will have total freedom.

More than four decades ago, I was to travel outside Nigeria for the first time and had never been inside an aeroplane before. I was a lecturer at the University of Lagos and was to give a presentation in Sierra Leone. I was a bit anxious because I had never travelled outside the country, but then somebody gave me instructions on how to clear myself at the airport. I listened, obeyed the instructions, and my journey was successful.

Beloved, when God gives you an instruction, don’t think you are wiser than Him. He knows the end from the beginning and the best pathway for your life. If you want to succeed in life, simply obey God’s instructions. Obedience always precedes the miraculous.

KEY POINT
The key to being successful is simply God’s instructions.

HYMN 30: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.

3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.

4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we'll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.

MEMORISE: For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: Isaiah 28:10

READ: John 14:11-12
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

MESSAGE
When God called me to become a pastor, I did not want to answer the call, but He insisted. so, I told Him, “I don’t want to be an ordinary Christian or an ordinary pastor. If You want me to be who You say You want me to be, I want to at least do the works that Jesus did, and even greater.” The Lord said, “No problem. It’s just that you will have to start from where Jesus started. He fasted for 40 days and nights before He performed His first miracle.” At that time, the only times I ever fasted was on Good Fridays, and those fasts only lasted from morning until 12 noon. I told God, “40 days and nights?” He responded, “Well, you are the one who said you want to do what Jesus did, and even greater, so you have to start from where He started.” I almost said, “Lord, don’t worry” but I thought to myself, “If there is anything you learnt in Mathematics, it is that you start from the known to the unknown, from simple equations to simultaneous, quadratic, exponential, and so on.” So, I started with three days and nights; I’m telling you, it felt like three months. After some time, fasting for three days and nights every month was no longer difficult for me, so I moved on to five days and then seven until I got to fasting for 40 days and nights more than once a year.

Beloved, you can attain any height if you are steadily growing in the right direction. Don’t think that those who are at the top got there in one day. Line must be upon line, and precept must be upon precept, a little here and a little there (Isaiah 28:10), after which you will find yourself in the place where you desire to be. I believe that all the teachings of Jesus can be simply summarized as ‘nothing goes for nothing’. There is a price to pay if you want to be great. You may not be able to pay all the price now, but if you take it one step at a time, you will soon get to the desired height. You can start from where you are because if you keep waiting to start big, you might never start. God commits more into the hands of those who are faithful in little (Luke 16:10).

ACTION POINT
Gradually pay the price to attain a greater height in God from now.

With the cross of Jesus
Going on before.
Christ, the royal Master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
See his banners go!

Refrain:
Onward, Christian soldiers!
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before.

2. At the sign of triumph
Satan’s host doth flee;
On, then, Christian soldiers,
On to victory.
Hell’s foundations quiver
At the shout of praise;
Brothers, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise.

3. Like a mighty army
Moves the Church of God;
Brothers, we are treading
Where the Saints have trod.
We are not divided;
All one body we:
One in hope and doctrine,
One in charity.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, thank you for the message in today's devotional, reminding me that I can always go higher in you and that you will fill me as I hunger and thirst for more of you. Thank you for the example of the lady who was hungry for the anointing.

2. Lord, I pray for a fresh and insatiable hunger for you. Fill my heart with a deep thirst for your presence, your power, and your righteousness. Help me to desire you more than anything else in this world.

3. According to your word in Matthew 5:6, I pray that as I hunger and thirst after righteousness, you will fill me. Anoint me with a fresh dose of your power to go higher and fulfill my purpose in you.

4. Father, help me to live a life that is willing to pay the price to go higher in you. I don't want to complain when it's time to fast, pray, or study your word. Give me the strength and discipline to do what it takes to draw closer to you.

Lord Jesus, I come to You with a deeply repentant heart, please, forgive me and wash all my sins away with your precious blood shed at Calvary. I surrender my life to you, today, and, I accept You, as my personal Lord and Saviour. Please, come into my life and save my soul from eternal damnation.
