sogodihno: I av to disagree on one point sir: Medical is not restricted to doctors, because if it's restricted to doctors, den d word "medical doctor" will b tautology. Tanksbro, or ma, Maybe you have forgotten that a doctor is not always a medical doctor. Your president for one, as a basic example is referred to as a Doctor. A doctor can be somebody with highest university degree: a title given to somebody who has been awarded a doctorate. or somebody who can fix things: a skilled practitioner of something, especially fixing or improving something e.g a play doctor, love doctor. therefore, the need to add Medical- to the doctor. So, Mr tautology.... its definitely NOT a tautology. You are welcome. |

Creativity can seem innate, but like many things, it is actually a delicate balance of nature and nurture. In other words, creative thinking can be enhanced by external forces, and isn’t necessarily reliant on “good genes” or natural ability As a small-business owner, it can be hard to find the time to do the sorts of activities that help tone the brain's innovation. But you don't need a lot of time to keep your creative muscle working. It's possible to boost your brain power constantly and on-the-go, by incorporating brain-boosting and creativity increasing activities into your daily routine. 1. Let your ideas live with you. There are simple tools that make noticing and collecting fresh ideas and inspiration easy when you are out and about, reading newspapers and magazines or surfing the web. From the low-tech pad and pen (souvenir jotters gotten from your weekly owambe or events will do) to Evernote, a capturing software available on most devices, simply jotting down ideas wherever you are gives your inspiration a place to live. Give yourself 30 minutes to an hour each week to review what you've collected and you might be surprised by what ideas you've come up with. 2. Stroll more. We all need to go places during the day. Why not make one trip on foot, if possible? Research shows that even a 20-minute stroll can clear your head and make room for fresh ideas. Personally, late evening strolls work for me. Many of our most productive ideas do not come while we're trying to force them out in the workplace, but when we're away from our desks (while having a shower sometimes). Also, a change of scenery has been known to inspire many people. Seeing things you are not used to seeing could make you think in ways you have never thought. 3. Interact with stimulating people and places. Workers in big companies usually have a form of “Happy hour” when they have drinks and gist (gossip). If this doesn’t apply to u or the nature of you job, you might consider setting up your own happy hour where you visit a nearby hang-out spot, a park or even a bar around 5 or 6 p.m. for 45 minutes or an hour with the sole purpose of engaging with others. You could also share your ideas on online forums. A Harvard-based study suggests that sharing information about ourselves fires up the pleasure centers of our brains. More brain activity means more creativity!. 4. Pick brains from social media. Most of us are registered to at least 1 social media network platform. Follow a wide variety of people, not just those who you share similar views with. See the way others think when they make posts. Take some time out of your work time (don’t get caught) or leisure to just observe. Don’t ignore posts you think don’t make sense to you. For every 10 "senseless" posts you may read, you are likely to find that one post that ends up inspiring you. 5. Reward Your Curiosity. One common roadblock to developing creativity is the sense that curiosity is an indulgence. Rather than reprimanding yourself, reward yourself when you are curious about something. Give yourself the opportunity to explore new topics. 6. Build Your Confidence. Insecurity in your abilities can suppress creativity, which is why it is important to build confidence. (You can read my article on how to instantly build your self-confidence here: http://qbizlinx.com/entries/general/20-ways-to-instantly-build-self-confidence- ) 7. Make Time for Creativity & Brainstorm to Inspire New Ideas. You won't be able to develop your creative talents if you don't make time for them. Schedule some time each week to concentrate on some type of creative project. Brainstorming is a common technique in both academic and professional settings, but it can also be a powerful tool for developing your creativity. Start by suspending your judgment and self-criticism, then start writing down related ideas and possible solutions. The goal is to generate as many ideas as possible in a relatively short span of time. Next, focus on clarifying and refining your ideas in order to arrive at the best possible choice. 8. Overcome Negative Attitudes that Block Creativity. According to a 2006 study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, positive moods can increase your ability to think creatively. Although negative moods can sometimes spur creativity, researchers have found that it is during strong positive moods that our best creative work is done. In fact, the feeling of love or even thinking about love was shown to best encourage creative thinking. Hmmmm. 9. Less is sometimes more. Try that. Famously, Dr. Seuss wrote Green Eggs & Ham (a book I read when I was about 6) after betting that he couldn’t produce a story using less than 50 words. Most people naturally take the path of “least resistance” and build off of older or existing concepts when brainstorming, which can lead to less creative ideas. In order to put the brain in overdrive, you can mimic Dr. Seuss and place restrictions on yourself while creating, which will prevent you from falling back on past successes. If you usually write 1000-word short stories, try to create a story in under 500 words. Only use a small handful of colors in your design etc. The limiting nature of the task can bring out your most creative side. Due to the length of this article, i decided to cut it short. While there are plenty of temptations and distractions, the decisions you make here are truly what dictate your future, as the weak fail and only the strong survive. Do you have what it takes to become a monumental success? Or will you live out a life of mediocrity? The choice is up to you. While many think they have all the answers and the keys to success, we have seen those people make the same pitfalls too many times before. This is the time for you to hustle, scrap and fight for the life that you want for yourself. You manifest your own destiny during these crucial years. Every move you make is a test. Don’t mess it up. These are the 20 Mistakes You Don’t Want To Make In Your 20s. 20. Working for money, not for building your dreams Never do anything just because it’s convenient for you. Look to challenge yourself and build your own dream instead of building someone else’s. Even if it doesn’t exactly make sense now, create something with great value so you can cash out big. Always look to the future and never for immediate compensation. What are you going to do with those weekly wages anyways? Stop being so entitled and pretending like you deserve cash, prizes and vacations just yet. You will soon realize once you’ve made it that making money doesn’t make you happy. It’s the journey. 19. Thinking that this is the right time to fall in love While all of your friends might be doing it, don’t fall into the trap of a relationship. Sure it seems like the right thing to do, but your 20s are entirely too crucial for your personal growth for you to be focusing on fulfilling the wishes of another individual. Not only does it make you complacent with where you are in life, but it makes you boring. When your business is at stake and your future is resting on your shoulders, the last thing you need is to be bogged down by an insecure lover rushing you home (at least not in your early 20s). Get out there, meet new people, test the limits and have fun. It will take you to the places you’ve only dreamed of going. 18. Trying to act like the man rather than learning how to become one Instead of going overboard on the Gucci monogram and bottles in the club, as if you just signed to Mavin records. Every second counts and if more time is spent pretending to be the person you want to be instead of becoming that man, then you’ll sink in quick sand without even knowing it. A real man is willing to make sacrifices. If you aren’t down to put in the work, then please don’t act like you are. You can enjoy the success when you actually attain it. 17. Making friends instead of earning trust The in-crowd may be tempting, but you’ll probably fall victim to surrounding yourself with social climbers. We know you feel entitled to celebrate, but please relax. It’s never attractive when you act as though this is the last time you’ll ever see this in life. Make connections with people based on trial and error, not presuppositions and drunk ranting about what they can do for your business. If you ever want people to take you seriously, then you have to take them seriously. Just because you think you trust someone doesn’t always mean you can. Heed any red flags in the past before jumping into any kind of venture with them. 16. Not caring because you only live once — that’s for fools We all are guilty of irrational decision-making in our 20s. Fast people and fast times with money in your pocket always lead to over-extending yourself. A life of partying, heavy drugs and pretty much having that YOLO attitude will leave you flat on your ass. Get focused and lock into what you’re supposed to be doing. If you don’t know what that is, then you better figure it out ASAP. 15. Making all your wants, needs 'Expensive-looking' or flashy women and cheap thrills coupled with the expensive sneakers should not be on the list of your needs. Setting the foundation for your business and team is far more important than updating your wardrobe and chasing sex. Distinguish between what you want and what you actually need. Make sure your priorities are in tact or you will lose your track. 14. Forgetting that family comes first Those who supported you before anything deserve to be taken care of when you reach your success. If you aren’t doing this for the ones you love, then you’re not doing it right. Family comes first, no matter what happens. If you work for whom you love instead of just yourself, you will get far. 13. Blaming anyone else but yourself for anything in life Hold yourself accountable for everything. At the end of the day, all you have in the world is yourself — so go hard. Don’t look to anyone for answers and instead of making problems, create solutions. Whether it was that job you wanted, the funding you needed or the love you think you can’t live without, there is no one that can be held accountable in this universe except for you. 12. Getting comfortable like you actually deserve down time Unless you’re chilling with Victoria’s Secret models in Monaco this weekend, you shouldn’t even be thinking about taking a break anytime soon. You need a vacation? What have you accomplished? Mark Cuban (American billionaire owner of NBA team- Dallas Mavericks) spent seven years building out his first business before he even took a break. Don’t get lazy now. 11. Sticking with jobs that don't teach you anything A bad job is like an unhealthy relationship. Truthfully, the only reason you’re there is because it is the safest and easiest thing you know. Any job or relationship that allows for you to get comfortable should be avoided at all costs. The last scenario you could ever want is becoming like the rest of those miserable 40-somethings. 10. Following the crowd instead of forging against it You can be aware of the trends, but never follow them. If all your time is spent trying to adjust to your surroundings, you’ll get lost in the crowd all the more easily. Success and greatness are constructed by trendsetters themselves, not those who latched on to what’s currently trending. I hope that you don’t have any aspirations to look like your favorite rapper. Temptation to be influenced by those who you aspire to be like is easy, but no one finds his or her calling while following in the footsteps of another. 9. Failing to energize those around you Although you may sometimes think there is a lack of talent in your networks — this is never the case. It is your sole responsibility to inspire, encourage and drive those around you to succeed. Failing to do so only confirms that you fall victim to that which you accuse others of. Change and greatness can be sparked everywhere, but bring it upon yourself to trigger it. 8. Thinking you need to stop learning and growing You have more zeros at the end of your bank statement and stamps in your passport than you had ever imagined. Don’t consider this your victory lap, but rather as a taste of greatness. Do you live to enjoy the moments you dreamed of or a lifetime of unimaginable success? The common misconception that once things are in your favor, you no longer have to put in the 3:00AM work hours is a dangerous problem. The fewer nights that you’re willing to put in the work, the fewer opportunities you will have to celebrate your achievements in the future. 7. Thinking that anyone will ever pay you back Your 20s will be accompanied with a slew of poor investments by both you and those around you. Whether rich or poor, there will always be someone in your circle that will need a helping hand. If you ever think you’re going to see that money again, you’re sorely mistaken. If there were a plan of action and re-investment, then the truth is that you will not see N10 back. Times are tough, especially in your 20s and finding a route back to financial freedom is often seen only when winning the lotto or signing your first deal with Ca$h Money Records. Of course miracles do happen, but the probabilities that you’ve essentially given the money away are far too high. 6. Investing in relationships with the wrong values Your love life is an investment — and the smarter the deals you execute, the savvier of an investor you become. Instead of navigating through an ambiguous investment in which you shower your lover with cash and prizes for existing, make sure he or she will demonstrate positive returns. Your love life should have a solid ROI (return on investment) 5. Holding on to friends that waste your time and add no value to your life You’ll be sucked down into the abyss right with them if you don’t cut the fat of the group. Some friends could have been great to you as a child, but if they no longer hold the value and inspiration that is needed for you to thrive in life, then cut them loose. The only individuals you should be surrounding yourself with are those that challenge your ideas and motivate you to find the next solution to your problems. No, not the pessimistic peeps who shoot down your ideas with their negativity, but rather the ones who genuinely want to see you succeed no matter what you do in life. 4. Forgetting about the piggy bank and spending every kobo you have If our salary is for N20,000, then we’re most likely spending N25,000. Between credit cards, loans and every other avenue for attaining quick cash, our need for immediate gratification is worse than ever. The truth is it’s about making more money, not saving it. But at the same time, if you have no means for expanding your revenue channels, then you must be able to save a few bucks here and there. 3. Not wrapping it before tapping it If you don’t want to have a child then you better limit your excuses. As vulgar as it may sound, sometimes there are only a few options in life, so you must avoid all potential margins of error. The road to success is not paved with having responsibilities of children and your future wife to be. This is a somewhat lonely journey that you must take by yourself and those you love will be able to celebrate with you after. 2. Dating unstable people with mommy and daddy issues We need to control the invincibility we all feel when it comes to both men and women. Whether she’s a 'runs girl' or he’s a cultist, we feel the need to be the knight in shining armor for our lovers. As chivalrous as this may seem, I hate to break it to you, but you will never be able to change anyone. By setting yourself up for a losing battle, you’ve only ensured your misery for the next few months. She’s clingy for a reason, don’t be her Dr. Phil. Today, I will be sharing a decision making technique so you can start making wise decisions in your personal and professional lives. Decision making is a part of our daily lives. When we wake up each morning, we decide either to get up or stay in bed. In fact we decided the previous night if to sleep or stay awake (could be with the help of caffeine). We make thousands of decisions daily, most of course are done unconsciously. Please refer to the previous post to learn more about the conscious and unconscious mind. Making most decisions are extremely easy such as deciding to comb your hair after a shower or not. But there are some times when the decision you are expected to make is nothing short of a herculean task. Decisions that can alter the rest of your life. Decisions that determine the future of an entirely different person. Decisions that can make you or break you. Such decisions require proper guidance and accurate information. One thing we all have in common is the undeniable fact that we have all had our own share of regrettable decisions. Now if you know someone who claims never to have made a bad decision, he is either lying or he avoids making decisions at all cost. Making sound decisions is a skill that needs to be developed. Gut instincts (intuitive decision making) can only take you so far. You are likely to fall prey sooner rather than later to an act of misinformation, misunderstanding, manipulation, impulsivity or some other negative influencing factor if you do not make use of a Decision-making strategy like the one discussed below. There are SEVEN steps in this strategy that will be discussed. 1. Make a list of all possible solutions or other options. To do this, you might have to brainstorm or get some other people to suggest other ways of which to handle the situation. Not doing anything can also be an option. And in some cases, it may be the best decision you make. The final decision you make after going through the other steps is based solely on the choice you make here. Here is a scenario to work with. It isn't a complicated one but it will help you understand each step better. You recently won a reasonable amount of money. Lets say 100 thousand Naira from a competition and you are thinking of buying a new smart phone. If you were to make a list of other things you could possibly get with that money, you'll find out that there are several other things you would like to spend the money on. For example, you might realize that you could also use the money to get that Samsung LED TV that you have been admiring each time you go window shopping. You can also choose to just save the money and not spend any part of it. That is also an option. 2. Determine time span available for you to make the decision. Ask your self these questions: How much time is available to spend on this decision? Is there a deadline for making a decision and what are the consequences of missing this deadline? Is there an advantage in making a quick decision? Will spending more time improve the quality of the decision? Lets say you chose to get the smart phone, most likely there will be no deadline to work with so you are free to take your time to decide what brand or model of phone to get. There might be advantage in making a quick decision in cases of ongoing promos. Likewise, spending more time before making the decision could be of advantage in a case where you are anticipating a drop in price or expecting a new, upgraded version of the present smart phone available. This will give you a sense of urgency and prevent you from unending procrastination or would give you the comfort of time to make the best decision. 3. Gather information Before making any decision, all relevant information need to be gathered. You have to be aware of anything that could affect your decision before you make it and the effect of making it. Adequate knowledge of the scenario will help you make a well-guided decision. If there is inadequate or out-dated information then it is more likely that a wrong decision might be made. Also, if there is a lot of irrelevant information then the decision will be difficult to make, it will be easier to become distracted by unnecessary factors. Deal with only what is really important. In a group situation, such as at work, it may be appropriate for different people to research different aspects of the information required. For example different people might be allocated to concentrate their research on costs, facilities, availability, and so on. It will only be wise for you to go online to read reviews on the smart phone you intend to buy. Don’t just stop there, compare it to other smart phones in your affordable price range. Check out other brands and models. Ask people for their opinions. People who own or have owned the exact model you are interested in can share their experiences with you. Who knows? You may end up finding a more affordable phone with relatively the same specifications or a phone with much better specs in the same price range. 4. Weigh up the risks involved Not all decisions you make involve taking risks but for those that do, you have to assess them properly. Generally, the amount of risk an individual is willing to take depends on: The seriousness of the consequences of taking the wrong decision. The benefits of making the right decision. Not only how bad the worst outcome might be, but also how likely that outcome is to happen. It is also useful to consider what the risk of the worst possible outcome occurring might be, and to decide if the risk is acceptable. The choice can be between going 'all out for success' or taking a safe decision. In the case of purchasing a new smart phone, the risks involved are kind of limited. You may be taking a risk by choosing to buy a product by a not-so-popular brand or from a very new brand in the technology market. Or if you are thinking of buying the phone from an individual who is a stranger and not an authorized dealer because its cheaper. Making a wrong decision (e.g. purchasing the phone from a stranger) may present with consequences afterwards but they may not be too serious if you are lucky. 5. Decide on your Values Everybody has their own unique set of values - what they believe to be important and what they cannot do without. Many people decide to buy a phone for themselves but different people buy different phones based on their own personal values. One person might feel that price is the most important feature, whereas another person might be more concerned with the current trend. Others might value the battery life, the screen size, the weight or simply the particular brand name. It may be a combination of all these. Values in other cases may be Punctuality, honesty, Patience, frugality or extravagance, humility or pride etc. Depending on which values are considered important, different opinions may seem more or less attractive. If the responsibility for a decision is shared it is possible that one person might not have the same values as the others. In such cases, it is important to obtain a consensus as to which values are to be given the most weight. It is important that the values on which a decision is made are understood because they will have a strong influence on the final choice. People do not make decisions based on just one of their values. They will consider all their values which are relevant to the decision and prioritize them in order of importance. If you were to buy a phone, what would be the five most important factors to you? 6. Reflect on the Pros and Cons Consider the advantages and disadvantages of the possible solutions/options. One way you can use to evaluate the pros and cons of making a decision is to draw a table to compare the result of the decision when taken. For example, you are torn in between buying that smart phone or a tablet PC which you discovered while 'gathering information'. Draw a table to show a list of the pros and cons of getting either of the devices. Let the advantages of he phone over the tab stand as the pros, and the advantages of the tab over the phone stand as cons. Pros Cons More handy (portability) Tab has larger screen which Is good for reading and watching movies Capable of making phone calls Tab has Better battery life Makes use of 3G Tab has a Larger internal memory More affordable Having listed the pros and cons, it may be possible to immediately decide whether the option of buying the phone is better. However, it may be useful to rate each of the pros and cons on a simple 1 to 10 scale (with 10 high - most important to 1 low - least important): Pros Cons More handy (portability) 9 Tab has larger screen which Is good for reading and watching movies 7 Capable of making phone calls 8 Tab has Better battery life 9 Makes use of 3G and wifi 8 Tab has a Larger internal memory 5 More affordable 7 TOTAL 32 21 From the table above, it can be concluded that the pros of buying the smart phone outweigh that of buying the tablet (i.e the cons of buying the smart phone). 7. Make your decision. This is the final step. There are 2 ways of making decisions. It could be INTUITIVE (based in instincts) or through REASONING. Making use of the technique discussed here is classified under reasoning. Intuition is a perfectly acceptable means of making a decision, although it is generally more appropriate when the decision is of a simple nature or needs to be made quickly. More complicated decisions tend to require a more formal, structured approach. Making a decision using intuition alone should be an option and not done merely because it is the easy way out, or other methods are more difficult. It is important to be wary of impulsive reactions to a situation and remember to keep a record of the decision for future reference, no matter whether the decision was made intuitively or after taking a reason. If possible, it is best to reflect over a decision you have arrived at. Sleep over it before implementing or announcing it. REMEMBER that no decision making technique should be used as an alternative to good judgment and clear thinking. All decision making involves individual judgment, and systematic techniques are merely there to assist those judgments. What are the decision making techniques that you make use of? Kindly suggest any technique you feel should be on this post. continue reading at http://qbizlinx.com/entries/general/decision-making thank you. written by Abdulquadr O. www.qbizlinx.com follow @qbizlinx01 for more business and personal developmental tips |

hello guys, look out for my new post: LEARN HOW TO MAKE THE BEST DECISIONS WITH THIS TECHNIQUE http://qbizlinx.com/entries/general/decision-making Its also a topic on the career section. |
Let the advantages of the ...... continue reading at http://qbizlinx.com/entries/general/decision-making thank you. written by Abdulquadr O. www.qbizlinx.com follow @qbizlinx01 for more business and personal developmental tips |

bammo: This is realy great and i believe its gonna be helpful to many.thanx for commenting. i would have loved to ask for your age and occupation. but i am going to assume that you are quite young and that is your major cause of worry. other questions i'd like you to respond to are for how long have you noticed this condition? and are you stressed often or a lot? how many hours of sleep do you get on a average daily? forgetfulness at a young age is usually caused by stress and being over-worked. to solve this, take as many short breaks as possible while working. it could be every 3 hours or even less. then make sure you get adequate sleep at night. 6-8 hours is recommended. exercise too. everyday. exercise helps with blood circulation around the body. when exercising, the blood supply, and invariably oxygen supply to tissues, the brain inclusive increases. this can also help. each time i advice someone to exercise, i also ask the person to eat good nutritious foods. take more of fruits and vegetables and less of junks. also do crossword and other puzzles to exercise your brain too. anxiety about your condition could also lead you to forget more. so try and curb that too. relax. make use of to-do lists. write down things you need to to and allocate time to it. this way, u can always go back in case you forget which in turns reduces your anxiety and increases your confidence. go around with a pen and a small pad or just make use of your smartphone app. even blackberries have an application for that. lastly, in case its not caused by any of the above, or you have worked on them with no improvement, it may be due to medical reasons. are you on any drug prescriptions like anti-hypertensives, anti depressants, sedatives or ulcer medications? if not, it may be due to low thyroid hormone levels. in this case, a simple blood test would do, therefore i"ll advice a visit to your doctor. i hope this helps. have a good day. |

berbajiday: This is awesome, was well worth my time. God bless you OP, couldn't have been better said.Thanx. God bless you too. |
God's Favourite:I understand. Public speaking is not the only way to boost confidence. Try the other tips. But you can do more. If you meet someone for the 1st time that you are likely to be engaged in a conversation with, instead of making them find out on their own, or pretending, be the one to tell them. You don't need to explain much. U can even joke with it, this will help you break the ice. The person will understand. Once you get that out of your way, you'll have fun. |
Nikkyfash: I love d complement part. Bt is it good to flatter at tyms even though the person dos nt worth our complement?no, it is not good. Avoid lying as it may damage ones reputation. its better to keep silent. although u can always find one thing that you actually like in a person. talk about that |
Filmewell: pls what of me that keep telling my self 'no one likes me' how do i work on this.good morning, my question to you is why do you tell yourself that? what is the reason behind that thought? Are you a bad person? do you do evil deeds? if not, then surely some people like you. do you think so because of your looks? or because of your attitude towards somethings? the truth is, not everyone will like you. and its almost impossible for "no one" to like you. even the devil has his followers. so, u need to figure out why. then work on your psyche as mentioned in the OP. Learn to stop telling yourself that. if you are kind and generous to others, people will like you and they will show it. if you pay compliments to pple, you'll make them smile and if you can make anyone smile, you will be liked. in summary, be good. be friendly. be very good at something. do things you love doing. don't worry about what people say. Improve on your self and personality i.e work hard to be a better person. dont worry, for asking me this question, i like you already. have a great day. |

gconnect: Having self confidence is infant everything we need in every aspect of our lives because this life is all abt u and your association wit others... I agree wit u @OP.. But i hv a little question here, what if in a situation whereby someone suffers frm this "brain block" (ie. easily forget things he/she hv learnt withn a short period of time)... This can realy cause a "low self confidence" and negative thoughts... So Cud there b any solution to this challenge? Pls ur answer wil b highly appreciatedas a student that has written tons of exams (incourses as we call them), brain block is a common symptom. sometimes, the best way to learn is to forget and re-learn. forgetting is natural, especially if are trying to learn so many things at the same time e.g. cramming. here is a quote from my most recent article on my website on Decisions, Memory and consciousness "How many people have memorized for an exam only to have a 'brain block'? In cramming we actively force data from our conscious to unconscious. And the way the unconscious works is that once there is an interruption this information flow is broken and retrieving data from the mind becomes difficult." you can read more on this link http://qbizlinx.com/entries/general/decisions-memory-and-consciousness- basically, the cure to brain-block is its prevention. if its in terms of exams, start learning/reading on time so you wouldn't have to crash-read. this way, if you forget what you have learnt, you can easily re-learn it and it sticks better. another tip is to learn to develop short codes or mnemonics that you can remember and then translate into hat you have learnt. and in general life, have a diary and a to-do list. here you can easily jot down important things. so when you forget, it refreshes your brain. i hope this works for you. thanx. |
Adek15: yeah! I have low self confidence(not very low though) majorly because i'm a stamerer. How can i help myselfsome pple say stammering is one of the effects of low self-confidence and to others, its the other way round. which means, to build your self-confidence is to help you reduce the stammering and vice versa. 1st thing you should do is stop wondering why you stammer. if you can forget that fact then it becomes way easier to develop your confidence. also learn to speak up, attend events where you are required to talk. talk more without worrying about stammering. public speaking is a great way to build confidence and in your case, it also helps with the stammering. you only have low self-confidence because you are worried about speaking, so why dont you speak anyway!? also, dont be bothered about the ppl around. if you stammer but speak confidently, there is a high chance that your listeners will not even notice. once again, FAKE IT TILL YOU BECOME IT. be bold, speak out. what"s the worst that can happen? |
Kdamilola: Nice post, but 18 cannot be attributed to INTROVERTS like myself! Is there any other way round? There is no other way round to networking. you simply have to network. but i will share some tips with you on how to make it easier for you. 1st thing to do is develop the mindset and willingness to allow people get close to you. Introverts are not necessarily shy. once you can have this registered in your subconscious, you then prepare for interactions. prepare to meet people. you can even go thru conversations in your head before hand. then its best to interact with people in a one-on-one environment. you can go to conferences and parties with a friend who is more of an extrovert and more out-reaching. have him or her introduce you to pple. then collect the contact(s) of the person/people you have similarities with and then arrange one on one meetings. after you have been introduced to someone or a group of pple a couple of times, it becomes easier for you to face new people. but the 'koko" is you have to go out to network. and networking helps build confidence amongst its other numerous advantages. then also learn to ask questions. that helps a lot. its not a crime to feel awkward at times. even the most sociable of us have our moments. i am sure the other tips would be of help if at all you find it so difficult to network. thank you for reading. |
flolancracker:yes sir. Confident people walk with a purpose. they have important things to do, places to go to. increasing your pace can give the impression of confidence and purpose. its about your projection to others. Your perception soon becomes your reality. one thing we should all learn is a statement i learnt some months ago. DON'T JUST FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT, FAKE IT TILL YOU BECOME IT. Mind you, i haven't said you should act fake. this applies when you are having that depressing feeling that you done belong somewhere, or you dont deserve something. For example, you are lucky to get a job that you feel is above your qualification, instead of you to act like you don't deserve it (by showing low self-confidence) act like you are there for a reason. Act like you deserve to be where you are, and work hard to prove that you are indeed worth it. i hope you understand this. |
Thanx for reading! |
Self-confidence is the difference between feeling limitless and wanting to pee in your pants. Do you know that others see you just as you see or perceive yourself? (Well, except in cases like grandiose delusion) Your perception is key because perception is reality. Self-confidence is extremely important in our lives, every aspect of it. Yet many struggle to find it. It is directly proportional to success. The more self confident you are, the more likely you are to be successful. Let's take our school exams for example. Although self confidence could be dependent on preparedness, one could easily make mistakes or suffer from brain-block (the condition where someone forgets what he has learned for a proud of time) even after adequate preparation. This occurs mostly in oral exams. You might have experienced this. Self confident people inspire confidence in others, their friends, colleagues, their audience, customers and even their "ogas" at work. This is one key way at which they easily achieve success. It's easier for you to be persuaded by someone speaks clearly, looks at you straight in the eye, holds his head up high and answers questions assuredly. Likewise, you will be reluctant to follow or support a project that is being executed by someone who is always nervous, fumbling, scared and overly apologetic; in short, someone who lacks self confidence. I'll be sharing some tips on how to build your self confidence. Even if you think you already are, read on. Note: these tips won't make you Johnny bravo overnight but with consistency and determination you will get there. I will be dividing the steps in the self confidence building process into 3 broad groups. A. Psyche B. Physique C. Social habits The 3 groups are not necessarily distinct. They can be practiced concurrently. Steps in PSYCHE are 1. First of all, don't go down low but take a look at yourself. Recognize who and where you are at the moment. Then think about where you want to go and where you will rather be. Get your mind focused on the task ahead. 2. Make a list of your achievements so far. Think about the things you have done in the past that you have been commended for. Or something that when you look back to, you feel fulfilled and proud of yourself. Take a look at this list regularly so as to enjoy the success you have already had. 3. Think about your strengths and identify them. In what area of your life have you been most successful? Or what aspects of your being do your friends regard to be your strength or weakness. By identifying them, you get to know your strong point (opportunities) and weak points (threats). You can build from there on. 4. Think positively about yourself. Remind yourself that, despite your problems, you are a unique, special, and valuable person, and that you deserve to feel good about yourself. Identify and challenge any negative thoughts that you may have about yourself, such as ‘I am a loser’, ‘I never do anything right’, or ‘No one really likes me’. 5. Time to get more active. Set achievable goals for yourself. This is a very important step in the development of self confidence. Start with smaller tasks so that you won’t be overwhelmed. As you achieve the small goals you set, don’t forget to celebrate your success. As these little successes pile up, you'll have developed some confidence to take on bigger tasks. Make setting and achieving goals a habit. But WATCH-OUT, do not get over-confident or over-stretch yourself. 6. Learn to catch yourself every single time you tell yourself that you can’t have, won’t get or aren't good enough to get what you want. 7. Listen to your doubts but be ready to make deliberate decisions once you've heard them. Sometimes your doubts are there to let you know what you need to prepare for, so you can use them to your benefit as you move forwards. 8. Be thankful. A lot of times, lack of confidence stems from the feeling that you do not have enough of something (money, love etc). This also causes one to be insecure. When you focus too much on what you want, the mind creates reasons why you can’t have it. This leads you to dwell on your weaknesses. Combat that feeling and find that inner peace. PHYSIQUE 9. The way you dress says a lot about you. Dress in clothes that make you feel good about yourself. No one is more conscious of your physical appearance than you are. When you don’t look good, it changes the way you carry yourself and interact with other people. This doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune on clothes. Rather than buying a bunch of cheap clothes, buy half as many but select high quality items. This decreases the amount of money spent in the long run because they don’t wear out as fast and they remain in fashion longer than cheaper, low quality ones. 10. Work on your personal hygiene. Bath and shave frequently, wear clean clothes, style your hair, trim your nails, and floss your teeth. I am sure it wouldn't 'add' to your confidence if you are described (even once) as the guy or lady with BO or MO (Body odour/Mouth odour). This alone can crash the confidence you have been building like the world trade centre on 9/11. 11. WORK OUT!!!! And not by MOUTH. Get fit. Put yourself in the shape of your life. If you’re out of shape, you’ll feel insecure, unattractive, and less energetic. By working out, you improve your physical appearance, energize yourself, and accomplish something positive. 12. Your posture and how you walk say a lot. Stand up straight, keep your head up and make eye contact. People with slumped shoulders and lethargic movement automatically send a message that they lack confidence. When walking, walk faster. People with confidence walk quickly. They have places to go, people to see, and important work to do. Even if you are not in a hurry or got nothing to do, don’t show it. PSOCIAL HABITS (the 'P' is silent) 13. Do more of the things that you enjoy doing. Do at least one thing that you enjoy every day, and remind yourself that you deserve it. Make yourself feel good. 14. Do something nice for others. Think about other people around you. Too often we get caught up in our own desires. We focus too much on ourselves and not enough on the needs of other people. If you stop thinking about yourself and concentrate on the contribution you’re making to the rest of the world, you won’t worry as much about you own flaws. For example, visit a friend who is sick, or get involved with a local charity. The more you contribute to the lives of others, the more you’ll be rewarded with personal success and recognition. 15. Learn to compliment other people. When you feel bad about yourself, you tend to project that feeling to other people. Break the habit of gossiping, back stabbing etc and replace it with smiles, good gestures and praises. When you do this, you become well liked. People in turn say good things about you and you gain more confidence. So, always look out for something good to compliment others on. 16. Be heard. When in group discussions or meetings, always endeavor to make contributions. Don’t be scared because you think you might say something silly. You will be surprised that people are much more accepting than you imagine. Share your thoughts, project your views. Ask questions. You become a better public speaker this way and also become recognized. 17. Avoid places, people that make you feel bad about yourself as much as you can. Or be more assertive. 18. Meet new people. When you attend social events, don’t keep to yourself or to the people you already know. Go and have a conversation with someone you don’t know and you never know what – or who – you’ll discover. 19. When you make embarrassing mistakes in public, make fun of yourself. Laugh at your stupidity. This way, when other people try to make fun of you, you’ll be having your own fun. 20. Lastly, get support. Share your troubles. Talk to friends and family about your difficulties and get advice from them. Who knows/ they may also be having similar problems hence, you can form a support group, or may have gone through something similar in the past, you get to learn from their experience. Jack Welch once said, “Giving people self-confidence is by far the most important thing that I can do. Because then they will act.” Low self-confidence can be self-destructive, and it often manifests itself as negativity. Self-confident people are generally more positive – they believe in themselves and their abilities, and they also believe in living life to the full. So, which would you rather be? by Abd.Quadr A.
