The announcement of the name of Lionel Messi’s third child has caused a stir with Chinese supporters of the Barcelona ace, who have been left dumbfounded as the transliteration of the name in Mandarin is said to be the same as that of rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 30-year-old, who confirmed the new arrival last October, took to Instagram on Wednesday to reveal that he and his wife Antonella Roccuzzo had decided to name their child Ciro.

Coincidentally, following the rules of transliteration, which is often based on the phonetic translation of words, the third child of the Messi family will share the same Mandarin Chinese adaptation of his Real Madrid nemesis. In Chinese, given the length of the Portuguese international’s name, which would read as ‘Kelisidiyanuo Luonaerduo’ in Mandarin, efforts in the past have been made to shorten the adaption out of convenience with the Los Blancos No. 7 now affectionately known as C-Luo.
On the other hand, the Italian pronunciation of Ciro, as in Ciro Immobile, for instance, has given rise to the phonetic translation of Qiluo.
It remains to be seen which pronunciation of the name will be adopted; should it be the Spanish version, then Messi’s son will share the same name as Cristiano Ronaldo – in the eyes of the Chinese anyway.

1. Phones

In fact, it’s a known fact that the most expensive phones and gadgets are sold at giveaway prices in Lagos traffic. Don’t be surprised if a seller dangles an iPhone X to your face in traffic for a paltry sum of N50, 000. Before, you are tempted to buy it, think twice about the fact that it may be a stolen phone or a phone programmed to work for just 30 minutes. Who knows you may just be buying your phone, which was snatched in Lagos traffic!
2. Dogs/Puppies
You do not know the type of diseases these dogs are exposed to so you can’t trust the seller. For many buyers, the breed of the dog is the attraction. And the sellers know this. This is why they take advantage of their gullibility by selling fake breeds of puppies at very mouth-watering prices. By the time you get to your veterinary doctor, you will be shocked to hear that the dog you just purchased for N30, 000 in Lagos traffic isn’t an Alsatian or even a crossbreed. So you cant trust a dog seller in traffic.
3. Recharge Cards
Buying call units in traffic calls for extra caution. By the time you are done punching the digits the trader is gone and there is absolutely nothing you can do if it doesn’t work. Besides, there have been numerous reports of recharge card vendors selling fake units in traffic. If you can totally avoid buying recharge cards in traffic please do else thread with caution and buy at your own risk.
4. Aux cords/ Ear phones/power bank/ car & phone chargers
Except you are in dire need of a charger, power bank or aux cord to power your phone or gadget do not risk it. But if you do buy it, bear in mind that you might just be buying a substandard product that may end up causing more harm than good to your device. The downside of buying these items in traffic is the fact that there is no after sale service, warranty and you almost can’t identify the seller a second time. You also can’t check its authenticity so don’t go trusting the seller. And if you are lucky to spot him in traffic again, you have absolutely no proof to nail him.
5. Some food items
Now, this category is quite tricky because the food items are the fastest moving goods in traffic. So many people have bought rotten boiled eggs, rotten pastries, walnuts etc in traffic. If you must buy canned drinks, water, biscuits etc in traffic always check for the expiry date. It is so important. As usual do thread with caution,

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said on Sunday that it had suspended its employee, Philomina Chieshe, on account of N36m which was reported to have been swallowed by a snake in the board’s office in Makurdi, Benue State.
The JAMB Head of Information, Fabian Benjamin, told our correspondent on Sunday that the board was taking her through other disciplinary measures while security agencies were investigating the matter.
Benjamin said, “She has been suspended and she is going through all other disciplinary procedures while the investigation is ongoing on the matter. Her claim was that a snake came into the office and swallowed the N36m proceeds.”
It was learnt that Chieshe explained in her statement that a “mystery snake” sneaked into JAMB accounts office and made away with the N36m cash.
The money was said to be from the purchases of scratch cards from JAMB state offices and other designated centres.
A team of auditors was said to have been dispatched to different state offices of JAMB to take inventory of sold and unsold scratch cards and recover the generated money.
The woman reportedly told the team that she could not account for N36m made in the previous years before the abolition of scratch cards.
However, in the course of interrogation, Chieshe reportedly changed the narrative, saying that it was her housemaid who connived with another woman, Joan Asen, to “spiritually steal the money” from the vault in the accounts office.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had begun an investigation into the matter following a recommendation by the Federal Executive Council late last year that JAMB should be investigated.
The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, who briefed council about the performances of some government agencies last year had said JAMB for the first time remitted N5bn to the government’s coffers with a promise to pay the balance of N3bn compared to maximum N3m remitted yearly in the last 40 years.
Adeosun had said the disparity in the remittances of agency in the past had necessitated the decision to probe all previous heads of the two agencies.

As the 2019 general election approaches, politicians and their supporters are gradually getting prepared for the campaigns.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has already released a tentative timetable for the highly awaited elections.
The INEC time-table shows that party primaries and resolution of disputes arising from them will hold from August 18 to October 7 for national and state elections while that of the FCT area council is slated for between September 4 and October 27.
Campaigns by political parties are slated to commence from November 18 for presidential and National Assembly elections; December 1 for governorship and state assembly elections and December 2 for the FCT area council elections.
To this end, sources in the federal cabinet say President Muhammadu Buhari may soon ask ministers with ambition to seek elective offices to resign to enable them focus on their aspirations.
PREMIUM TIMES findings have indicated that among the ministers who may leave the cabinet to seek governorship tickets in their states are Adebayo Shittu, the Minister of Communication; Aisha Alhassan, Women Affairs; Kayode Fayemi, Solid Minerals Development; Suleiman Hassan, Minister of State, Power, Works and Housing and Ibe Kachikwu, Minister of State for Petroleum.
PREMIUM TIMES also gathered that the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, is nursing a governorship ambition.

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) says it has yet to ban Olamide‘s controversial music dubbed ‘Science Student’ because it wasn’t done to promote hard drug consumption and other crimes, Daily Trust reports.Although there have been calls for the government to ban the album from being played on the airwaves and on TV stations, the NFVCB Director General, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas who spoke with Daily Trust on the sideline of the Safer Internet Day 2018 in Abuja, Tuesday said the song was done to discourage crimes.
Alhaji Thomas said rather than looking only at the negative side of the album, Nigerians should look at the positive side. He said,
“If you look at the short video of the track, you don’t see Olamide himself there. That is one. Two, we are in the internet age where a lot of things fly. What we need to do is to encourage our children to take only the good side of the internet and leave the bad side.
“The very week Olamide released that record, he released a press statement saying the song is a caution for people not to mix things together and take it as intoxication.
So you don’t expect us to ban it just like that when he had explained why he sang the song.
“But we are still going to engage with NBC, NDLEA and other agencies to dialogue with our artistes so that whatever is coming out from them would be highly productive and has positive effects on the youths.”
Earlier in his remarks, a representative of Google at the event, Mr Babatunde Olaifa said over 90 million obscene and crime-related videos had been taken down from Youtube by Google in the last couple of years.
He said the search engine doesn’t encourage obscenity and crimes, but is advocating for safer and crime free society.

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), which was closed down for over a year due to lack of finances from state government has been given a recognition. In spite of repeated workers strike that held down academic and other activities at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso in the last one year, the institution has been ranked as the best state university in Nigeria.

A statement by the institution’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr Lekan Fadeji, said the latest ranking by Webometric, which puts the Institution as 14th overall in the country and 3680 in the World, goes to confirm that despite the debilitating effect of the industrial crisis, LAUTECH’s leadership position among its peers remains unchallenged.Reacting to the news, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Adeniyi Gbadegesin, reiterated the commitment of management to ensuring that the Institution’s present financial position is not allowed to affect its determination to train eggheads to man the various technological spaces of the future.
He added that the Governing Council, led by Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, has assured that whatever the university needs to stay on top would be encouraged.
LAUTECH had in the past been named the number one state university in Nigeria by various ranking organizations, including the National Universities Commission (NUC).
