Paris-Saint-Germain superstar, Neymar Junior could be the lastest high-profile player to quit European football for the Middle East as he is close to agreeing personal terms with Saudi Pro League side AL-Hilal', Newspremises reports.

The Brazilian forward will become the latest addition to the burgeoning array of stars in the Saudi Pro League, which boasts of Cristiano Ronaldo, the reigning Ballon d'Or holder Karim Benzema, and Liverpool legend Sadio Mane.

According to GOAL, Ronaldo's stunning choice to join Al-Nassr in January marked a turning point for the Saudi top flight, as his decision led the way for numerous other prominent players to follow the path set by the Portuguese star.


While several players from Europe's top leagues have joined the oil-rich nation's football scene this summer, none has resonated as profoundly as much as Neymar's potential departure from PSG to join Al-Hilal.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the former Barcelona striker, previously linked with a potential reunion with Barcelona, is scheduled to travel to the Gulf region this week to finalise a two-year deal with the Riyadh-based club.

Upon completing his medical assessment today, Neymar will assume the No.10 jersey. This has led to many crediting the former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus forward for this move.

The baby was said to have arrived on Saturday, August 12, same day Awoniyi celebrated his birthday.

The Nottingham Forest FC striker took to his Instagram story to share the post of his family and friends congratulating him on the arrival of the new member of his family.

The 26-year-old had a memorable birthday as he came off the bench and pulled one back for Nottingham Forest in their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in Saturday’s Premier League fixture.

Awoniyi and his wife welcomed their first child, a boy named Emmanuel on October 16, 2020, two years after they got married in June 2018.

Some residents of Kano state on Saturday morning, August 12, staged a protest against the proposed use of force by the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) to resolve the Niger coup crisis.

Recall that at a meeting in Abuja on Thursday, August 10, ECOWAS leaders directed military forces of the member States to be on standby for restoration of democratic rule in the neighbouring West African nation.

The protesters kicked against this plan. They carried different placards while chanting.

“Nigeriens are our brothers, Nigeriens are also our family. Niger is ours, we don’t want war, war against Niger is injustice, a plot by the western forces''

The protesters also displayed Nigeria and Niger’s flags, chanting anti-war songs.

Some Nigerians have argued that residents of some Northern states will be greatly affected if any war is launched against the coupist in Niger.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has reacted to reports that he consults some demons at Redemption camp before mounting the altar to preach and prophesy to his members.

Adeboye on Friday said his attention was drawn to some publications on the internet where some so-called prophets, clerics and groups of persons made the allegation.

Addressing the allegation at the ongoing August Holy Ghost convention, Adeboye urged the congregation to pray that he dies before sunrise if he is guilty.

He said he would not mind people spreading such rumours but while he was praying for the convention, it occurred to him that even some of his members may have believed the rumours spreading like wildfire.

In a bid to end the rumours, the fiery cleric said, “I want you to say this prayer, If Pastor Adeboye has any links with any demonic powers, let him die before the sun rises.

“But if he is using your power, multiply the powers by seven folds.” he added.

Super Falcons, striker Ifeoma Onumonu has opened up about the 'unacceptable' resources in Nigeria following their Women's World Cup exit to England.

The Super Falcons faced England in the last-16 tie but lost on penalties. The score line ended 4-2.

Onumonu, who led the line for the African nation against the Lionesses, highlighted the difference in the support that both teams received back home.

She told the Guardian: 'I've seen what England has access to. In Nigeria, we don't have access to much.

'Our training fields aren't great. Where we sleep isn't great. Sometimes we share beds.

'It's not good enough. In terms of recovery, we don't have much of any of that. We don't have access to a gym in a camp in Nigeria. There's a lot that needs to be done.'

The 29-year-old who plays for Gotham FC added that it was hard to adjust to the tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

She said: 'We do what we can because we love playing for our country but hopefully they make it easier for us to do our best Back home the pitches aren't great. The grass is rocky, bumps everywhere. The stadium we play in for qualifying, you'd be surprised.

She also revealed that the under-20s side were 'sleeping in airports for 24 hours' after they were knocked out of the U20 World Cup in the quarter-finals last year.

'That's not acceptable. What we have to fight for is bigger than us,' she said.

The NFF has been heavily criticised for failing to pay players, poor facilities, a cancellation of a pre-tournament camp and interference in selection matters and staff appointments.

Earlier this week, the global players union' FIFPRO released a statement on behalf of the Nigeria Women's National team confirming they will assist the players in their ongoing dispute.

'Following the Nigeria women's national team's elimination from the FIFA Women's World Cup, FIFPRO can confirm it is assisting players in a disagreement with the Nigeria Football Federation concerning bonus payments, camp allowances, and expenses, some of which date back to 2021.

'During the World Cup, the players expressed the desire to remain focused on their performance without making public statements or facing other distractions. However, the Super Falcons believe that it is now time for the Nigeria Football Federation to honour their commitments and pay the outstanding amounts.

'The team is extremely frustrated that they have had to pursue the Nigeria Football Federation for these payments before and during the tournament and may have to continue doing so afterwards. It is regrettable that players needed to challenge their own federation at such an important time in their careers.

'FIFPRO will continue to work with the players to ensure their contractual rights are honoured and the outstanding payments are settled.'

Tottenham Hotspur captain, Harry Kane seems to be a fan of Nigerian afrobeat singer, Burna Boy as the footballer was sighted listening and singing along to the hit track Last Last.

The Englishman was spotted alongside his teammate, Yves Bissouma, as they attempted to sing along to the tune playing in the team's dressing room in a clip circulating online.

The pair struggled with the lyrics of the song, with Burna Boy infusing Pidgin English and Yoruba into the track.

Rest well mama

The remains of veteran Nollywood actress, Sidikat Odukanwi, popularly known as Iyabo Oko, has been laid to rest, Newspremises reports.

The actress died on Wednesday, June 28, after a long battle with an undisclosed ailment. She was 61 years old.

Her remains were laid to rest in Ife, Osun state today August 10.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Iyabo Oko was born on November 15, 1960, in Iwo, Osun.

In 1973, she started acting as a teenager under Eda Onileola Theatre Troupe before becoming popular for her character role in the movie Oko, produced by ‘Oga Bello’.

In 2015, she was diagnosed with an Ischemic stroke which made her take a break from acting.

In 2016, she was honoured with the Special Recognition Award at the City People Entertainment Awards for her contribution to the growth of the Yoruba movie industry.
