Yes u have to book appointment, check travel.state.gov and u have to go with ur ticket

zmoney:
@damsel020, pls I have some questions.
1 . Did u get a call when the birth cert was ready and did u expedite it?
2. Do I need to book an appointment before going to d passport office downtown? What should I go with so I can get it same day?
Thanks!

You don't need to contact Oakbend, just Dr fagbohun
shelly23:
Morning all!

For those considering or have used Dr Fagbohun, did you have to contact Oakbend separately or did you go through him?

I'm seriously considering Houston now and he's come highly recommended on here and even a few people I know in Houston.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 8:14am On Oct 23, 2014
I forgot to add pediatrician fee which is $234 that makes it a total of $6067

Phema:
That's a total of $5833. Not bad at all. I don't see why anyone will be going all the way to MIHS with the new package if Houston is within same price range. Moreover, tickets to Houston have always been much cheaper.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 8:11am On Oct 23, 2014
What u need for POE is a correspondence with a doctor and doctor and doctor fagbohun win give u dat if u send him a mail.

Naniakay:
Hello Beautiful Naija Mums, i've been following this discussion for the past 1 month without uttering a word. I must say i'm really pleased with the way genuine info is released here. I hv gained alot! I'm new here and also expecting an American baby. I wld be travelling to Houston in Dec as baby comes in Jan next year. I intend using Dr. Fagboun. I called to book an appointment but they said I cant till I arrive in Houston. Isn't this going to pose any problem at the POE? Pardon me of this question has already bn addressed please. My second question is abt my visa. I went to d embassy for a renewal. The lady only asked for d State I would be travelling to and that ended the interview. After reading some posts here on d importance of declaring ur intention, I sent a mail to the embassy a week ago but there is no response till now. I've called several times but no response still. I'm not based at home (Naija) but in one of the neighbouring countries. Pls I need ur advice. Many thanks in advance.

mamacajah:

TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 12:27am On Oct 23, 2014
We are fine ooo? Recovering from all the stress
@ ur questions
1. I did not do his circumcision there cos I did not like my cousin own they did early this year. So am doing it tomorrow. But d price is included in what Dr fagbohun will send to u. I think it's $300
2. My mistake. I paid $234 for a 1 day stay at the hospital and I refused the hearing test, cos I see it as waste of money.
3. I stayed with my sister who lives there, but there is a lady I met that have a shared apartment she takes pregnant women and helps with transportation and feeding. And u can also ask Dr fagbohun guess he has accommodation for interested patients.

4. I spent a total of $300 on naija visa.

GenoMI:
Hello @damsel020, welcome back to naija. Thank God for a smooth journey. How is your son ? grin

Please we the Houston bound mums that need your help are here o grin. Can you kindly let us know:
1. How much you paid for circumcision?
2. You did not make mention of pediatrician fees. Please how much should we budget for this?
3. Can you please share information on getting suitable accommodation?
4. How much you paid for the Nigerian visa for your son?
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 11:26pm On Oct 22, 2014
All thanks to God and the great people of this thread. Am finally home with my son just 3weeks after birth. I used doctor fagbohun and I had a wonderful birthing experience at oakbend hospital.
Doctor bill= 1920
Initial vist= 150
Ultrasound =150
Lab work= 550
Pathology me and my baby= 63
Epidural = 850
Hospital fee = 2150

As for document, I got d birth certificate from Fort Bend County Richmond after a week for $23, got his passport at Houston passport agency and collected same day for $165, and applied for Nigeria visa which I received back d next day and zoom I changed my ticket and am off.
And for those having issues with delta airline and baby's ticket, I called them. them a week before departure to book baby's ticket and they told me $458, I gave them my card details to remove d fee, fortunately that was not done, on getting to d airport in Houston I was practically begging he lady to collect the money and she said am not owing that infant has been added to my ticket and dat I did myself online. I sha left for Atlanta o, when I got to the boarding gate they asked for my infant ticket, confusion starts, had to go back all the way to the help desk to clear d issue, those ones said am yet to pay, they called and told me am to pay $132.10 I thought I didn't hear well, I gave him d money all for him to tell me it's a mistake that my fee is $458, but I can go cos have been standing here for so long. I was jumping for d miracle, I met anoda naija mum there trying to also pay for baby's ticket, my people the woman no pay she was giving them different drama of no money, they delayed her but immediately d flight was ready to leave they released her, so dats anoda style.....Am willing to help any Houston bound mum with there questions, my little way of giving back to this wonderful family.

TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 3:32pm On Oct 12, 2014
You just have to call to book appointment and go there with ur document i.e birth certificate, filled out form DS-11, u and hubby data page, baby's passport photograph, proof of travel(ur ticket), also a consent form signed( if hubby isn't present) and i paid cash of $165. Check travel.state.gov for further clarification.

I paid $550 for d 3 tests I did pap smear, glucose and HIV. Yea d $234 is d discounted pediatrician bill.

Flowers:
@damsel020: Hello kindly tell me how much you paid for lab tests and the tests that were accepted from you by Dr. Fagbohun. Also the $234 you paid for Paed was it discounted or the normal fee charged? Cheers
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 12:02am On Oct 07, 2014
I used d pediatrician at Oakbend. Am not aware of the price review. But paid my pediatrician bill last week which came to $234 for a 24 hour stay at d hospital but told them not to do the hearing test.

PrincessMum:
Hello house,

Thanks to everyone that has given selflessly on this thread,God bless you loads!
Had to re-register cuz of the tsunami.

Congrats to all new mums and wishing everyone here success in all their plans..May God grant all our heart desires.

@ Damsel020
Congrats! Hope you're having fun with baby activites smiley. Please did you use the Pediatrician for Oakbend? Im currently using Dr Fagbohun and having contacted the PeDs office, was told their prices have been reviewed and I will have to pay the new price, were you affected by this as well?
I sent you a PM, kindly accept my request. Thanks
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 4:04pm On Oct 06, 2014
I gave them my name.

uchetobi:
did you give them your baby's name too? mine was two bills, one in my name and the other in my daughters'
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 5:30am On Oct 06, 2014
Thanks dear. will the pathology also come late cos when i called they said they dont have my record too.

uchetobi:
they will send the bill to your registered address. this normally takes time, i remember i had to chase all of them (except the pediatrician)so if you want to leave asap you should call them. the epidural people which is greater Houston anesthesiologist or something that sounds like that, have a 4weeks pay policy to still pay $850 else they will charge you 3k dollars or so, yet they dont send the bill on time. pls call them that you are a self pay patient who utilized their services at Oakbend recently. to avoid wahala. congrats on your safe delivery

for the pathologist dont forget to ask for your 40% discount
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 12:08am On Sep 29, 2014
This sounds interesting, me I don't want whala o. Cos ve also called all d nos and no one seem to know anything.

@uchetobi can u help with this info?

Snowles: Funny i had the same experience, couldn't reach anyone willing to take payment for the epidural. Called the number i was given for the anesthesiologists but they said i had no account with them! Called the hospital and they said it had nothing to do with them. I never received a bill from them so i let it go. ..

TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 7:26pm On Sep 17, 2014
Bad experience means different things to different people, but my experience wasn't pleasant i must say. The day i was to travel, the flight was cancelled due to mechanical fault and we had to be lodged in an hotel till the next day, and they did not communicate with us in the hotel till later that evening and on getting to the airport they had no plan for us, they were attending to those whose flight was for that day and left us unattended to for almost an hour, we finally left the airport around past 12 for a flight of 10:30pm. To me it was a hell of a journey. but i must say that's not enough to say u cant fly them, i may just prefer to try another airline next time, the choice is yours.

bims87: @Damsel020 and @ Jaysmom, can u pls expatiate on the bad experience with Delta airline? M planning to book my flight with them. Would u advise me not to? Thanks
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 1:46pm On Sep 17, 2014
Thanks dear.

jaysmom: @damsel020, now I can't remember how many tests I did but I did most of them in Nigeria. I did for infection screening and the blood sugar....... I bought my baby's ticket for $750 at the airport and I think her baggage allowance was 20 pounds while the car seat was carried free of charge. I
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 11:51pm On Sep 16, 2014
Congrat dear. pls just some few questions. Am currently in houston and using doctor fagbohun, but i was given a bill of $550 for test of which i have just 4 test to do am confused? pls how many test did you do for $220? and as for delta, i had a horrible experience with them coming here so am prepared for the worst on my return leg, God help me. But how much did you get ur baby ticket and what is the baby baggage allowance?

jaysmom: Congrats to all the new mamas and papas, congrats too on visa approvals. I'm back to Naija and I'm fully settled now. Had my baby at Oakbend Medical Centre and I used Dr Fagbohun. Thanks to all that made me discover this wonderful hospital/doctor. The cost I incurred where as follows: doctor - $1920, hospital - $2150, labs - $220, reg/scan - $300, pediatrician - $380, epidural - $800. The nurses were very professional and nice and the environment was superb. I had my personal labour room and post natal room (non shared). I stayed with a friend in Sugarland and when my hubby joined me we moved to his cousin's at Katy. Both locations were less than 30 minutes drive from the hospital and the doctors office. Baby's birth certificate was ready in 2 days, SSN in 8 days and passport in 13 days. I flew Delta and I had the worst experience anyone could think of. From delays in obtaining a sky-rocketed priced return ticket for my baby to almost running into my connecting flight in Atlanta and then to carrying my baby in my arms throughout the journey (please don't depend on their bassinet as only 2 moms on some special seat can have it). As if that was not enough, on arrival, 2 of my boxes didn't arrive with me. I was told to come back the following day meanwhile I had an Owerri flight to catch that day. To cut a long story short, Delta is not it o for nursing moms so be warned.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 11:46pm On Sep 16, 2014
In all things we should give thanks. Thank God you and the babies are fine. The lord will keep them and strengthen u dear. All is well.
nefertitiram: Dear All,
I wish I could post a POE story, but I developed severe complications on the day I was to leave for US. I am sure my friend @dinawe who we were supposed to travel together must have been confounded by my disappearance at the airport.
I started bleeding a few hours to my flight, and was rushed to a hosp. I had lost so much blood so they had to carry out an emergency surgery to save my life.
My babies were born at 27 weeks and are currently in an incubator. I am in recovery as well.
In all things I can only give thanks to God, things could have been much worse if I had gotten on that flight.
@dinawe, please reach out to me when you arrive phoenix. This is why I didn't show up for our flight, but I and the babies are safe and sound.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by damsel020: 3:22pm On Aug 27, 2014
Thanks for this info. Please do u still have the contact of the pediatrician you used cos Oakbend gave me a bill of $380 and dont mind if i can cut this cost.
bloggerina: Hello, first I just want to say that this is a wonderful thread, lots of useful info. Its a pity I found out about this thread AFTER I had my baby in the US earlier this year. lol
Anyways, I just want to provide helpful info for the person who asked about another doctor in West Houston Medical Centre. I had my Son there in Feb this year, my doctor was Dr Jeanie Huynh. Fantastic doctor! A friend's sis-in-law had used her before so I went to her and I must say, i'm glad I did. She also did my son's circumcision and it was fantastic. I had emailed the doc's office and also faxed my medical report in advance. They didnt accept payment in advance anyway, had to pay everyth when I got there. So here's what I spent a few months ago:

Dr Huynh's Fee - $2,000
Additional OBtests @ Doc's office - $270 (please do as many of the tests as you can do in Naija)
Circumcision - $255
Hospital Fee - $4,000 (I ended up having a C-Section coz I developed PIH when I arrived in the US)
Epidural - $1,200
Paediatrician - $93 (Dr Huynh's office suggested a paediatrician to me that also gives discount to Dr Huynh's patients so this was quite cheap. Otherwise I would have spent $800 if I had used WHMC's Paed).

Anyone's who's intrested can reply or send me an email, I'd be willing to share contact info etc. I understand that having a baby in the US can be daunting, esp if you havent done it before so it pays to have people assitst with first-hand info, questions, clarifications etc. Am available to help sha.
I wish everyone a success in this quest and all the blessings of parenthood!!! May our investments in our children's future by having them in the US be fruitful in Jesus Name!

Hmmm, so I owe this forum and feel indebted to everyone who contributes on this forum, i read this forum than my Bible lols.
I flew delta airline, we were meant to leave naija Tuesday night, but after boarding and staying in d plane for 2hrs they announced that the plane is faulty and we will not be able to fly, i was frustrated+tired, so they had to lodge us in a hotel close to MMIA and d next day i.e Wednesday we are to fly at d same time with d same aircraft, i swear I was scared, my folks even told me to cancel the trip dat d stress is too much at 36 weeks, we left naija Arnd 12 am wednesday night and got to ATLANTA around 6:30am, d immigration queue was so long I almost fainted+ I was hungry, did not eat on the plane cos I was scared of the outcome of POE lols. But as God will have it I spent less than 3mins with d CBP officer. Transcript goes thus.
CBP: hello
Me: hi
CBP: madam put a smile on
Me: I just smiled(meanwhile I was half dead standing dere)
CBP: why are u here
Me: to have my baby and do some shopping
CBP: oh great
Any correspondence with d doctor?
Me: just brought out the mail conversation with Dr Fagbohun and bill attached.
Na so he stamp me in for 6 months o, without asking y I did not state my intention at the embassy or even checking if I have cash with me. Though I was with the mail from d consular and cash.
And we were about 3preggys on d plane and we were all stamped in.
Wish eveyoda person coming in best of lucks.
