Zika virus

Fact sheet
Updated January 2016

Key facts

Zika virus disease is caused by a virus transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes.
People with Zika virus disease usually have a mild fever, skin rash (exanthema) and conjunctivitis. These symptoms normally last for 2-7 days.
There is no specific treatment or vaccine currently available.
The best form of prevention is protection against mosquito bites.
The virus is known to circulate in Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific.
Introduction

Zika virus is an emerging mosquito-borne virus that was first identified in Uganda in 1947 in rhesus monkeys through a monitoring network of sylvatic yellow fever. It was subsequently identified in humans in 1952 in Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania. Outbreaks of Zika virus disease have been recorded in Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific.

Genre: Flavivirus
Vector: Aedes mosquitoes (which usually bite during the morning and late afternoon/evening hours)
Reservoir: Unknown
Signs and Symptoms

The incubation period (the time from exposure to symptoms) of Zika virus disease is not clear, but is likely to be a few days. The symptoms are similar to other arbovirus infections such as dengue, and include fever, skin rashes, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, malaise, and headache. These symptoms are usually mild and last for 2-7 days.

During large outbreaks in French Polynesia and Brazil in 2013 and 2015 respectively, national health authorities reported potential neurological and auto-immune complications of Zika virus disease. Recently in Brazil, local health authorities have observed an increase in Zika virus infections in the general public as well as an increase in babies born with microcephaly in northeast Brazil. Agencies investigating the Zika outbreaks are finding an increasing body of evidence about the link between Zika virus and microcephaly. However, more investigation is needed before we understand the relationship between microcephaly in babies and the Zika virus. Other potential causes are also being investigated.

Transmission

Zika virus is transmitted to people through the bite of an infected mosquito from the Aedes genus, mainly Aedes aegypti in tropical regions. This is the same mosquito that transmits dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever.

Zika virus disease outbreaks were reported for the first time from the Pacific in 2007 and 2013 (Yap and French Polynesia, respectively), and in 2015 from the Americas (Brazil and Colombia) and Africa (Cape Verde). In addition, more than 13 countries in the Americas have reported sporadic Zika virus infections indicating rapid geographic expansion of Zika virus.

Diagnosis

Zika virus is diagnosed through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and virus isolation from blood samples. Diagnosis by serology can be difficult as the virus can cross-react with other flaviviruses such as dengue, West Nile and yellow fever.

Prevention

Mosquitoes and their breeding sites pose a significant risk factor for Zika virus infection. Prevention and control relies on reducing mosquitoes through source reduction (removal and modification of breeding sites) and reducing contact between mosquitoes and people.

This can be done by using insect repellent; wearing clothes (preferably light-coloured) that cover as much of the body as possible; using physical barriers such as screens, closed doors and windows; and sleeping under mosquito nets. It is also important to empty, clean or cover containers that can hold water such as buckets, flower pots or tyres, so that places where mosquitoes can breed are removed.

Special attention and help should be given to those who may not be able to protect themselves adequately, such as young children, the sick or elderly.

During outbreaks, health authorities may advise that spraying of insecticides be carried out. Insecticides recommended by the WHO Pesticide Evaluation Scheme may also be used as larvicides to treat relatively large water containers.

Travellers should take the basic precautions described above to protect themselves from mosquito bites.

Treatment

Zika virus disease is usually relatively mild and requires no specific treatment. People sick with Zika virus should get plenty of rest, drink enough fluids, and treat pain and fever with common medicines. If symptoms worsen, they should seek medical care and advice. There is currently no vaccine available.

WHO response

WHO is supporting countries to control Zika virus disease through:

Define and prioritize research into Zika virus disease by convening experts and partners.
Enhance surveillance of Zika virus and potential complications.
Strengthen capacity in risk communication to help countries meet their commitments under the International Health Regulations.
Provide training on clinical management, diagnosis and vector control including through a number of WHO Collaborating Centres.
Strengthen the capacity of laboratories to detect the virus.
Support health authorities to implement vector control strategies aimed at reducing Aedes mosquito populations such as providing larvicide to treat standing water sites that cannot be treated in other ways, such as cleaning, emptying, and covering them.
Prepare recommendations for clinical care and follow-up of people with Zika virus, in collaboration with experts and other health agencies.

Buhari Is A Complete Disappointment – Balarabe Musa

The former governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa has dispelled rumors making the round that he was picked up by security agents a few days ago and taken to an unknown destination.

Musa while responding to inquiries by Ripples Nigeria said, “no it is not true. There was no such thing. I was never arrested by anyone”.

The elder statesman, who is also a former presidential candidate of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in the exclusive chat with Ripples Nigeria, also described the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration as a disappointment.

According to him, the administration has not lived up to the expectations of Nigerians, who expected so much from it based on the promises made.

He said, “it has not performed as expected, it is a complete disappointment”.

The former governor also stated that it is wrong for the APC-led administration to heap the blame of its non-performance on the past PDP government, adding, that the APC won an election on the strength of its promise that it would fix the PDP mess.

“They said they wanted to be elected to correct these things, but they have not corrected anything. We expect them to correct things; we don’t stagnation or excuses and accusations. There is no hope of what they want to do”, he said.

Alhaji Musa who commended the anti-corruption fight of the government however, stated that the war on corruption seemed to be targeted at only opposition figures, pointing out that it needs to be more widespread.

Musa stated that the government was not doing enough in terms of those that have been reined in for questioning and probe based on suspicion of corrupt practices. He stated that “in a country where we’ve been crying about corruption for so long, only about twenty or so people are being probed, that’s not good enough. They are not going to the root of the menace”.

Bello Emerges Kogi Gov Without Deputy

All is set for the inauguration of Kogi State governor-elect, Yahaya Bello, in Lokojo, today.

The ceremony scheduled to be held at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, is expected to be graced by President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Bukola Saraki and other leaders.

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be performed by the Chief Justice of Kogi, Justice Nasir Ajana.

But the position of the deputy governor of the state is still vacant as the APC has yet to fill the position.

Bello’s journey to the Lugard House started after the candidate of the party in the November 21 governorship election, Abubakar Audu, who was in an early lead, died during the collation of the election results.

He was thereafter picked by the APC as its candidate in the December 5 governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared the November 21 governorship election as inconclusive after Audu died.

Bello went on to seal victory for his party with 6,500 votes as against 5,500 votes for the outgoing governor Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Bello, who takes over as the seventh governor of the state at the age of 41, is the youngest individual to assume the position of the state’s helmsman since the creation of Kogi in 1991.

Born on June 18, 1975 in Agassa Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State, Bello is the last of six siblings.

He attended the Kaduna State Polytechnic for his A-Level and proceeded to the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he bagged a degree in Business Administration.

A member of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, Bello worked with the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission where he rose to the position of the Assistant Chief Accountant.

PoliticsBiafrans Keep Dream Of Indepenence Alive As Nigeria Clamps Down On Them - BBC by DANDONdGreat(op): 9:47am On Jan 27, 2016
Biafrans Keep Dream of Independence Alive as Nigeria Clamps down on Peaceful Protesters – BBC

In a quiet, dusty and fairly secluded corner of Enugu city, south-eastern Nigeria, a group of men unfurled a homemade flag and then sang.

“Biafra will live forever. Nothing will stop us,” was the gist of their anthem in the Igbo language.

They were not exactly belting it out and instead of hoisting the flag up a pole, it was tied to a metal gate. But there is good reason for discretion – in the eyes of the authorities the gathering is illegal.

On 5 November, 100 men and women were arrested as they marched peacefully through the city’s streets after raising the Biafran flag.

They were all imprisoned and accused of treason but then released when the charges were dropped. It appears the government is determined to ensure any agitation for secession is not allowed to gather momentum.

Forty-two years after the end of the devastating civil war in which government troops fought and defeated Biafran secessionists, the dream of independence has not completely died.

“No amount of threats or arrests will stop us from pursuing our freedom – self-determination for Biafrans,” said Edeson Samuel, national chairman of the Biafran Zionist Movement (BZM).

“We were forced into this unholy marriage but we don’t have the same culture as the northerners. Our religion and culture are quite different from the northerners,” he told the BBC.

The group broke away from the better-known Movement For The Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (Massob).

The 1967-70 civil war threatened to tear apart the young Nigerian nation. Ethnic tensions were high in the mid 1960s. The military had seized power and economic hardship was biting.

With the perception that they were pushing to dominate all sectors of society – from business to the civil service – and while they were prominent in the military, the Igbo people were attacked.

Thousands were killed, especially during the clashes between northerners, who are mostly Muslim, and Igbos. To save their lives, Igbos fled en masse back “home” to the east.

“People used to meet fuel tanker drivers who allowed them to hide inside the tankers – some survived that way,” remembers Igwe Anthony Ojukwu, the traditional ruler of Ogui Nike in Enugu State.

“As we were licking our wounds… it dawned on us that we could not just stay at home as they would come and fight us and that would mean… extinction,” he said, adding that this prompted the move to declare Biafra independent.

Image captionThose who surrendered were issued with cards saying “defunct Biafra”
Today on the streets of Enugu you can hear songs about the war. Booming out from a stall selling CDs and DVDs I heard a song praising the late Chief Emeka Ojukwu – the man who raised the Biafran flag in 1967 and was the leader of the breakaway nation that existed for 31 troubled months.

“It was very terrifying. In the market place you hear a bang and you find limbs flying, people lying dead and others running helter-skelter,” said war veteran Chief Nduka Eya, recalling the aerial bombardment by the Nigerian forces.

At his home he showed me the small card he was given after the Biafrans surrendered. It reads: “Clearance certificate for members of armed forces of defunct Biafra.”

“Naturally when you lose a war it can be very depressing but what can you do? We took it. But history shows Biafra is defunct out of surrender,” said Chief Nduka Eya who is now the secretary general of Ohaneze Ndigbo, an umbrella group representing Igbos around the world.

In the bottom right-hand corner of the card is Olusegun Obasanjo’s signature. The man who later became the president of Nigeria played a major role in the civil war, fighting on the federal government side.

Abubakar Audu, APC’s Governorship candidate feared dead

Prince Abubakar Audu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the just concluded Kogi state election which the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared inconclusive is feared dead.

Abubakar Audu after voting
INEC returning officer for the election, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha of Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, said no party could be declared the winner yet since the numbers of cancelled votes was more than the difference between the first placed Prince Abubakar Audu of APC and the second placed Capt. Idris Wada of PDP.
Should the election not have been declared inconclusive the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Abubakar Audu, ought to have be declared the winner of the Kogi State Governorship election that was held on Saturday.
Prince Abubakar Audu, was the first Executive Governor of Kogi State and was born on 27 October 1947, to the family of his Royal Highness, the late Pa Audu Oyidi, Orego Atta of Igala Land and the paramount ruler of Ogbonicha-Alloma in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
He started his education at the then N.A. Junior Primary School, Alloma, and later N.A Senior School Ankpa, from where he proceeded to Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha. He later transferred to the Jos Commercial College where he obtained both the GCE O and A level

PoliticsWe Are Tired Of This Force Marriage Imposed On Us- Pro Biafra Agitetors by DANDONdGreat(op): 6:11pm On Nov 18, 2015
WE ARE TIRED OF THIS FORCED MARRIAGE IMPOSED ON US – pro-Biafra protesters

Thousands of protesters took to the streets in southeast Nigeria on Wednesday to demand the release of an activist who operated an illegal radio station calling for a separate state of Biafra.
The demonstration in Aba was the latest by separatist groups on an issue that has again exposed deep and longstanding ethnic fault lines in Africa’s most populous nation.
A previous unilateral declaration of an independent Republic of Biafra in 1967 led to a brutal civil war that left more than one million dead in nearly three years of fighting.
In Aba, the commercial hub of Abia state, some 10,000 people carried placards with slogans such as “Biafra or death” and waved the Biafran flag — a golden rising sun on red, black and green.
Others wore t-shirts and caps with the image of Nnamdi Kanu, the director of Radio Biafra and founder of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) pressure group.
Some sang freedom songs and carried the outlawed Biafran pound currency.
“Getting our leader out of detention is our immediate concern but ultimately we want to be free from Nigeria,” IPOB’s Abia coordinator, Ikechukwu Ugwuoha, told the crowds.
“We are tired of this forced marriage imposed on us in 1914 by the British colonial authorities. We don’t want anything to do with Nigeria again because we have not benefited from Nigeria.”

– Criminal conspiracy –

Radio Biafra was taken off air in July this year after the government accused it of being a “seditious pirate radio station” which broadcast “unsavoury hate messages”.
Kanu was arrested last month and charged with criminal conspiracy, membership of an unlawful society and criminal intimidation.
A judge in Abuja on Wednesday ordered Nigeria’s secret police to produce him in court next Monday.
Tension has been building since Kanu’s detention, culminating in demonstrations in major southeastern cities and fears of a crackdown against protesters.
In Port Harcourt last week, police fired shots in the air and teargas to disperse hundreds of pro-Biafra supporters.
The Aba demonstration came after a planned blockade of the Niger Bridge on Tuesday was cancelled because of warnings from security personnel.
The bridge crossing the River Niger which links the southeast with the rest of Nigeria was the de facto border during the civil war.
Pro-Biafran sentiment has persisted among the dominant Igbo people in southeast Nigeria because of perceptions they have been punished for breaking away.
But the man who led Biafra during the civil war, Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, warned against a second bid for secession in an interview before his death in 2012.
Nigeria’s military ruler at the time of the civil war, Yakubu Gowon, last month said he recognised people’s right to protest but the concept of Biafra was “finished”.
“I don’t think it (the increased pro-Biafran sentiment) is any threat,” he told Nigeria’s Channels television on October 23.
“If there is anything of this sort, anywhere in any part of the country, just like the problem of Boko Haram, we, Nigeria, should deal with it in a mature way.”
– ‘No going back’ –
On the streets, however, there was defiance. IPOB member Jude Chukwu Akiaba tore apart the green and white Nigerian tricolour, calling the country “dead and buried”.
“The Nigerian government has neglected the Igbos for long,” the group’s women’s leader, Uzor Amaka, told AFP. “There are no social amenities like roads, electricity, hospitals and jobs in the east.
“Our people are still being made to suffer for the civil war. So, it is better to call it quits with Nigeria and put our destiny in our hands.”
Osmond Lekwauwa said he was ready to die for the cause.
“What’s the point of belonging to a nation where you cannot have basic necessities like good roads, water, electricity and jobs?” he asked.
“I left school (university) six years ago and have not been able to secure a paid employment. I have been doing menial jobs to survive. At 32, I cannot even raise a family.
“I will rather die being a Biafran than to remain in Nigeria,” he said, urging local political leaders to back their campaign.
“There is no going back on the struggle,” he added.

PoliticsYou Have No Right To Order For My Arrest - Senate President by DANDONdGreat(op): 9:42am On Sep 19, 2015
You Have No Right To Arrest Me

THE Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, sitting in Abuja, yesterday, ordered the arrest of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki following his refusal to appear in court to face a 13-count criminal charge that was preferred against him by the federal government.

Bukola Saraki
The tribunal which is headed by  Justice Danladi Umar, directed the Inspector  General of Police, IGP, Mr. Solomon Arase and other relevant security agencies in the country to arrest the Senate President and produce him in court on Monday for arraignment.
Saraki was in the  charge before the CCT, marked ABT/01/15 and dated September 11, 2015, alleged to have falsely declared his assets, contrary to the constitutional requirement.
He was accused of deliberately manipulating the assets declaration form that he filed prior to his assumption of office as the Senate President, by making anticipatory declaration of assets.
The offence was said to have been committed while Saraki held sway as a governor.
Aside allegation that  he owned and operated foreign bank accounts while being a public officer, Saraki  is expected to explain before the CCT how he acquired some assets which the federal government believes were beyond his legitimate earnings.
Meantime, Saraki  who was billed for arraignment yesterday, refused to appear before the tribunal, even though he sent his team of lawyers, led by a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr. J.B. Daudu, SAN, to file memorandum of conditional appearance on his behalf.
When his case was called up, one of his lawyers, Mr. Mahmud Magaji, SAN, notified the tribunal about the ruling by Justice  Ahmed Mohammed of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, which had on Thursday,  summoned the Ministry of Justice over the charge against Saraki.
Justice Mohammed had after he heard an ex-parte application by Saraki, also  summoned the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Umar and that of the  Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, Mr. Sam Saba, to appear before him on Monday.
They were specifically asked to appear to show cause why an interim order of injunction stopping Saraki’s trial should not be granted.
Meantime, irked  by Saraki’s absence at the tribunal for the commencement of his prosecution yesterday,  the Ministry of Justice, prayed the Justice Umar-led panel to order for his arrest.
Moving the oral application for a   bench warrant to be issued against Saraki yesterday,  a  deputy director in the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. M.S. Hassan, maintained that the accused person, “cannot sit in the comfort of his chamber and object to his trial in absentia”.
The prosecution further contended that Justice Mohammed lacked the powers to summon the CCT and CCB chairmen, even as it accused Saraki of engaging in “forum shopping” in a desperate bid to scuttle his trial.
Hassan argued that going by the provision of section 396 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, Saraki, could only object to the trial after he had entered his plea to the charge against him.
“My lords, the provision of this section is clear to the effect that any objection to a charge shall be raised after plea, which means that the accused person must be in court and the charge read to him before any objection.
“Moreover, paragraph 17 of the Third Schedule to the 1999 constitution, as amended, empowers this tribunal to try the accused person”.
The prosecuting counsel described Saraki’s contention that he cannot be prosecuted in the absence of a substantive Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, as “a clear misconception of the law”.
He argued that the power to initiate criminal proceeding before any court or tribunal is not limited to the AGF alone, adding that  section 175 of the constitution provides that any officer in the office of the AGF is qualified to initiate criminal proceeding in any court of law or tribunal in Nigeria, except the court martial.
Placing reliance on decided case law in FRN vs Adeyemi, 2010, 10-NWLR, and section 2 & 4 of the Law Officers Act, the prosecution stres-sed that in the absence of a substantive AGF, the Solicitor General of the Federation could perform all the duties that were imposed by the law on the office of the AGF.
“We also rely on section 24(3) of the CCB &Tribunal Act to submit that the charge against the accused person is proper and competent.
“The Federal High Court lacks the power to compel this court before it. They are both superior courts of record with coordinate jurisdiction, and are both recognised by the constitution.   Appeals from this court go straight to the Court of Appeal.
“The Federal High Court does not have supervisory jurisdiction over this court. It only has power over inferior tribunals, not a court of competent jurisdiction as this court.
“The accused person cannot stop us from performing our constitutional duties. He cannot sit in the comfort of his chamber and say my lawyer will do it for me. This is a criminal case, not a civil matter.
“We therefore urge my lords to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of the accused person”, the prosecutor added.
BENCH WARRANT
Ruling on the application , the tribunal while upholding FG’s argument, stressed that Saraki,  having sworn to protect the constitution, ought to have shown respect to the tribunal by appearing before it today.
“I have taken notice of the fact that there is no incumbent AGF in office, but that does not preclude any officer from the Ministry of Justice from initiating this criminal proceeding “, Justice Umar held.
The tribunal noted that whereas the AGF has the sole right to exercise the power of ‘nolle prosequi’ (power to terminate charge), it said that such exclusive right does not include the initiation of criminal trial.
It further observed that Saraki was duly served with the charge and a notice to appear in court yesterday, on September 16.
“This tribunal is established under section 15(1) of the Fifth Schedule to the 1999 constitution as a special vehicle vested with the powers to promote probity and accountability in the public service.
“This tribunal has coordinate jurisdiction with the FHC. In view of section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, this tribunal cannot accede to the request to halt this proceeding. A superior court of record cannot issue an order prohibiting or restraining the proceeding of another court of equal status.
“This tribunal has called the defendant to come before it and stand trial. As a senior citizen he is expected to show respect to constitutional provisions which he has sworn to protect.
“The tribunal hereby orders the IGP or other relevant security agencies to arrest and produce the defendant for prosecution. In view of the foregoing, the tribunal orders a bench warrant to be issued against the defendant”, the court ruled.
Spirited effort by Saraki’s lawyers to persuade the tribunal to consider the position of the accused person as the Senate President and stay the execution of the bench warrant against him on the undertaking that he will be available for trial on Monday, failed flat yesterday.
SARAKI APPEALS
Meanwhile, in a swift reaction, Saraki, yesterday, went before the Court of Appeal   in Abuja to challenge the powers of the CCT to try him, as well as the refusal of the tribunal panel to discharge the bench warrant for his arrest.
In his one ground of appeal, Saraki, insisted that the trial tribunal erred in law and also acted without jurisdiction by countenancing and assuming jurisdiction over his criminal trial/ prosecution for a charge that is being challenged at the FHC Abuja in suit No FHC/ABJ/CS/775/2015, between him and the Ministry of Justice and 3 Ors.
He argued that the tribunal acted in disobedience to the order the FHC made on Thursday. Listing the particulars of error by the tribunal, Saraki, told the appellate court that “as at the time the lower tribunal overruled the appellant’s application to discharge the order for bench warrant for his arrest by the respondent, there existed an order of the FHC, Abuja, dated September 17, which was served in the lower tribunal, who were party to the suit”.
It was his argument that having filed an application challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal to adjudicate on the charge before it, he needed not to be present in court yesterday.
More so, Saraki, argued that the tribunal did not avert its mind to the decided case laws in Doma vs Ogiri, 1997, 1-NWLR, and that of Ojukwu vs Governor of Lagos state, 1986, 3-NWLR.
He therefore sought an order of the appeal court setting aside the order of arrest that was issued against him by the tribunal.
The embattled Senate President had in  a13 -paragraphed affidavit that was deposed to by one Efut Okoi, told the high court on Thursday that his trial was politically motivated.
He told the court that since May 29 when the life span of the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan expired, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari had yet to appoint an AGF.
“That upon assumption of office, President Mu hammadu Buhari has made several appointments ranging from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to Senior Special Advisers and Special Assistants.
“That I also know of fact that President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to appoint Ministers and other key Executive Officials.
“That is is also a fact that the Federal Ministry of Justice does not have an Attorney General/ Ministry of Justice yet”.
He argued that on September 14 when the 4th Defendant/Respondent (M.S. Hassan) took steps to initiate the charge before the CCT, he was never directed by any AGF to do so, since there exists no substantive AGF.
“That the charge pending before the CCT is predicated upon the falsehood that the plaintiff/applicant did not declare his assets in 2003, 2006 and 2011.
“That the applicant has consistently declared his assets as required by law at every point before resuming any political office and that of 2015 was not exception.
“That the 2nd defendant/Respondent had investigated the assets and ascertained the claims made by the plaintiff”.
He said that he submitted his asset declaration form in 2007, 2011 and 2015, saying “the present charge was initiated due to external influence and undue interference on the CCT”.
He told the court that the CCB never wrote to him to complain of any inconsistency in his asset declaration form.
Saraki averred that the charge was “purely   a malicious and politically motivated prosecution aimed at undermining the person and office of the Senate President.
“That it is a fact that this charge pending before the CCT is a case of desperation to intimidate the applicant due to his recent stance on national issues.
“That the applicant had suffered series of harassment and intimidation in the hands of the officials of the 1st defendant”, he added.
In the charge, Saraki was accused of breaching section 2 of the CCB and Tribunal Act, an offence punishable under section 23(2) of the Act and paragraph 9 of the said Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
FG alleged that Saraki claimed that he owned and acquired No 15A and 15B Mc Donald, Ikoyi, Lagos, through his company, Carlisle Properties Limited in 2000, when the said property was actually sold by the Implementation Committee of the Federal Government landed properties in 2006 to his companies, Tiny Tee Limited and Vitti Oil Limited for the aggregate sum of N396, 150, 000, 00.
He was alleged to have made false declaration on or about June 3, 2011, by refusing to declare plot 2A Glover Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, which he acquired between 2007 and 2008 through his company from the Central Bank of Nigeria for a total sum of N325, 000, 000, 00.
Similarly, Saraki was said to have refused to declare No1 Tagnus street, Maitama, Abuja, which he claimed to have acquired in November 1996 from one David Baba Akawu.
Some of his alleged offence while in office as governor, which are said to be punishable under section 15(1) and (2) of the CCB and Tribunal Act, Cap C15, Laws   of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, were allegedly committed  between October 2006 and May 2007.
His actions were classified as a gross violation of the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended.
“The Federal High Court on Thursday, September 17, 2015, therefore ordered that the all parties in the case should appear before it on Monday, September 21,  2015. The implication of this ruling by a Court of competent jurisdiction is that the sitting today has been overtaken by event. It is for this reason that Dr. Saraki chose to go about with his normal official schedule.
“Today at the Tribunal, Counsel to the Senate President, Mr. M. A. Mahmud (SAN), raised a motion stating that there is a pending constitutional matter before the Federal High Court to be decided on Monday and that the Tribunal should hold the trial until the constitutional matter is disposed of.
“We are however dismayed that the Tribunal chose to disregard the order of the Federal High Court and the motion to suspend hearing till Monday when all parties are expected to argue their positions on the constitutional matter.
“It is also a surprise to us that despite the application by the lead counsel to the Senate President that he will produce Dr. Saraki on Monday and the personality of the person  involved as the Number three man in the country, the Tribunal insisted on issuing a warrant of arrest as if its intention is simply to embarrass Dr. Saraki. We are not unmindful of the fact that the Tribunal is acting under political influence and external pressure. This is dangerous to our democracy.
“The conduct of the Tribunal  today left nobody in doubt that it cannot do justice on the matter before it. It is also clear that today’s decision is an abuse of the rule of law which portends danger to our judicial system. The Tribunal has equally set a bad precedent in the way and manner it conducted itself during the proceedings.
“We want to emphasise the fact that this is not part of any war against corruption but using state institutions to fight political opponents and seeking to achieve  through the back door what some people cannot get through democratic process.
“We need to caution here that in a desperate bid to settle political scores and nail imaginary enemies, we should not destroy our democratic institutions and heat the polity for selfish reasons. Let us all learn from history.
“The Senate President is a law abiding citizen who will not do anything to undermine the judicial process and authority. However, Dr. Saraki will always act to protect his fundamental human rights.
“The Senate President is a law abiding citizen and his absence from the Tribunal today was based  on the legal advice he received from his counsel that the Tribunal will respect the decision of the Federal High Court which is obviously a superior court of records. Also, he relied  on a letter from the Chief Justice of Nigeria directed to the Chairman of the Tribunal last May that they are not judicial officers and are inferior to the regular High Court as defined by the law and that they take official oath not judicial oath.
“We  will like to state therefore that Dr. Saraki will not do anything to undermine the judicial process and authority but he will always act to protect his fundamental human rights.”

You see. This is every serious issue!!!

I could remember few years ago in my 200 leave a girl called me inpotent and broacast to everyone that I can't perform as a man. Just because she invited me to her parents house during our holiday. And I went she was alone in the house and we talked, went out, came back and watched movies. When it was night I left.

The next day she called me that she wanted to visit my house during weekend also. Which I was very happy. Later she asked me if my parents will be around during weekend and I told her yes. She changed her mind immediatery and told me that she will come during the weekend when I would be alone. I said no problem. And she came. The same way we spent time together. Nothing like intimacy.
When we went back to school I invted her to my friend birthday party. After the party that night I took her to my room and she passed the night @ my place. And nothing happen between us.

The next day my brother she the news everywhere that I'm impotent and can not perform as a man. And she was bold enough to tell people the reasons why she said so.
PoliticsRadio Biafra Back On Air by DANDONdGreat(op): 1:07pm On Aug 23, 2015
RADIO BIAFRA BACK ON AIR

Controversial pirate channel, Radio Biafra, has again resumed transmission, despite the Federal Government’s claim that it had jammed the station’s signals.

The Federal Government had on July 14 announced that it jammed the transmission signals of the radio station, which was operating illegally from an unknown location.

Our correspondent observed that the channel had not been transmitting on the FM 104.7 band, on which its signals was received in Enugu, since July.

However, it was observed on Saturday that the station, which was monitored from 8pm to 9pm, had resumed transmission on the same 104.7 FM band, from which it transmitted before it went off air.

Listeners were invited to call in from various parts of the South-East, and from outside the country.

The station was still transmitting as of the time of filing this report.

The broadcast addressed the most current issues in the country, an indication that the channel was still on air.
