Computers / Interesting Ways To Minimise Smartphone Distraction by Danielaihie: 3:56pm On Oct 26, 2017
You can barely do without your smartphone because it is an essential tool for modern living. Regardless, it has a tendency to cause interruptions and distractions at the most inconvenient times. So, whether you are working or attending a meeting, or going out for a date, Obiaks Blog shares ways to minimise smartphone distraction.

Start using silent notifications
Putting alerts on silent is a good way to stay informed about what's in your inbox while being able to ignore your phone. With silent notifications, you will still see when an email waiting for you, but your phone won't beep or shake each time.

Set up do not disturb
iOS and Android now come with do not disturb features that allow you limit when notifications make a sound. If you cannot live without your apps or your alerts, then you can at least stop them from interrupting you at certain times of the day.

Turn off all notifications
You do not really need push notifications on your phone especially if you are checking it almost every minute. So, turn it off if you do not want to be distracted. However, if you cannot switch all your notifications, you can keep only the most important alerts.

Get a dedicated app
There are apps that can block your phone from getting new notifications even though it won't stop texts or phone calls. Notification Blocker and AppBlock can help you briefly block distracting applications on your device so that you can stay focused.

Uninstall apps
If disabling or silencing notifications is not really helping you, go further to uninstall all but the most essential of apps. Once uninstalled, you should find yourself reaching for your phone a lot less.

Food / Top Spots For The Best Indian Food In Nigeria by Danielaihie: 3:10pm On Oct 26, 2017
Kenya is a name that is quite synonymous with Safari and wildlife. It is a great place for adventure and to just explore and enjoy nature and wildlife. The culture and contemporary art of the people of Kenya as well as some of their architecture, are also objects of admiration and appreciation. Obiaks Blog shares 4 beautiful things about Kenya.

Maasai Mara National Reserve
This is one of the world's most fascinating game reserves. It borders Tanzania and is considered the northern extension of the Serengeti. The Maasai Mara is more or less a 'wildlife corridor' between Kenya and Tanzania. The magnificent reserve is named after the Maasai people who live in the park and graze their animals there. It is famous for the 'Great Migration', a time when thousands of wildebeest, zebra and Thompson's gazelle travel to and from the Serengeti (that is, from July to October). It also known for predator sightings because of its relatively large number of lions, cheetahs and leopards; throngs of hippos and crocodiles lurk in its nearby river called the 'Mara River'.

Lake Nakuru National Park
This park in central Kenya is famous for its huge flock of pink flamingoes. The flock of birds can be seen on Lake Nakuru itself – one of the Rift Valley soda lakes that comprises almost a third of the park's area. The park was established in 1960 and boasts of more than 450 species of birds as well as a rich diversity of other wildlife like lions, leopards, warthogs, waterbucks, pythons, white rhinos etc. Its terrain ranges from 'sweeping grasslands' that border the lake to rocky cliffs and woodland. Additionally, the park also protects the largest 'Euphorbia Candelabrum Forest' in Africa.

Lamu
Lamu is a small island that is northeast of Mombasa in Kenya. The lovely island practically 'oozes old world charm' and has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is Kenya's oldest continually inhabited settlement with origins that date back to the 12th century. Its labyrinth streets provide a path to explore the island's rich trading history reflected in its buildings, and the architectural features from the Arabs, Europeans and Indians which are evident in the same buildings, with a discernible Swahilli technique. A visit to this beautiful town is much like a time travel experience to explore what the 12th century was like. Common features of the town's architecture include: intricately carved wooden doors, coral stone buildings, hidden courtyards, verandas and rooftop patios. Donkeys are still the common means of transportation in this town and most of its population are Muslims. Some of the island's top attractions include: the Lamu Museum with displays on Swahili culture and the region's nautical history; the Lamu Fort; the Donkey Sanctuary and the island's white sand beaches.

Nairobi
Nairobi is Kenya's beautiful capital city. It is considered the largest in Kenya and is famous for its rich colonial history. Nairobi was once the capital of British East Africa and today, the city is open to tourists to explore its famous historic sites as well as its beautiful wildlife attractions. The Nairobi Museum is one of such famous historic sites that exhibits Kenya's history, culture, contemporary art and even nature, through its botanical garden. Another famous historical site is the Karen Blixen Museum. For wildlife, the Nairobi National Park is an excellent choice and the Giraffe Center, near the famous Giraffe Manor, is a great place to admire the lovely long-necked animals of popular fables.

Romance / Ways To Deal With Inferiority Complex by Danielaihie: 3:04pm On Oct 26, 2017
When it was first studied and analyzed by psychiatrists, it was pervasive in many adults, because of the various situations life puts them through. But nowadays, it is quite common in children too. Inferiority complex may be developed due to genetic factors, as well as due to personal experiences. With inferiority complex, there is always a feeling of inadequacy. The most common causes are failure, being a victim of bullying, physical appearance etc. A person having inferiority complex is prone to depression, and in severe cases, even has suicidal tendencies. When an inferiority complex is in full effect, it may impact the performance of the individual. Unconscious psychological and emotional processes can disrupt students’ cognitive learning. Obiaks Blog brings to you, Ways to deal with Inferiority Complex;

1. Stay away from negative people for a while
It will stop those negative thoughts and feelings to creep up inside your devil’s workshop. When you are surrounded by people who can only tell you of your shortcomings, it is bad for you to stay put in such company. When you delete the virus from your system, it becomes easier to function and becomes more efficient!

2. Talk to people and spend more time with your loved ones
Mingle with people because it will lessen the mental burden you feel. Seek a psychiatrist’s counsel if the need arises. It is definitely advisable to seek professional help. Spend quality time with your loved ones. They love you and will not mock at you. Being around them will make you happy and comfortable. After all, family comes first!

3. Help other people and get involved in activities
Instead of feeling low and being a burden to yourself, stop worrying and get involved in volunteering activities or activities of any other similar kind. When you are a part of community activities, you will learn about teamwork and many other essential principles, which will wipe out your complex and anxiousness.

4. Do not make unnecessary assumptions!
People may not even look at us in an inferior way, but we think they do and make our lives miserable! Some people are too busy with their own lives that they fail to notice you. This doesn’t mean that you are not noticeable. It shouldn’t matter what other people think of you!

5. Look out for sources of motivation
There have been several heroes who have got across difficult situations through their sheer motivation and will power. You can draw inspiration from them. If you find creative pursuits like arts and music engrossing, take them up seriously, for they are the best sources of self-satisfaction and fulfillment.

6. Stop the comparison, now!
To compare and come to a conclusion is a very unwise thing to do. You should focus on your betterment, regardless of how others seem. Besides, you don’t even know what their life is all about, the inside story. Every person is different, born with different abilities and differing interests. It’s like comparing apples and oranges at the end of the day. Both are equally sweet or equally sour. What is the whole point?

7. Focus on your strengths
Don’t let your weaknesses define you. Don’t dwell on your past failures. They are done and you cannot do anything about it. It is time you got pragmatic. Identify your strong points and take them seriously. Your forte is the one which will take you to great heights. Focus on your mighty abilities and fine tune them, so that they make you shine like the Alpha Centauri!

8. Work towards your goal, focus!
Find out your aptitude and interests. Work hard towards achieving them. All your fear and anxiety will vanish in no time. This is a great remedy to any mind related ailment like the inferiority complex. You should develop a vision and work towards it. Success lies in the ability to step from one failure to another, without the loss of enthusiasm.

9. Identify the root cause and work on it
Physical appearance does not decide what you achieve in your life. It is not something you should feel very bad about. Everyone has some nice feature in them. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. It is subjective and can be debated about. Do not let it to douse the spirit in you. If you have failed previously, it only means that you have tried and luck didn’t favour you! Never stop trying! Identify what exactly has caused inferiority complex and work on it, to eliminate it.

10.Love yourself and enjoy yourself!
I will tell you two magical words: “Love Yourself!” Your parents, friends and dear ones love you. But first, you must learn to accept yourself for who you are, enjoy yourself and love yourself! It will ward off all the unnecessary stress. I would like to quote Dr.Seuss: “Be who you are, because the people who mind don’t matter and the people who matter don’t mind!” Be original! You are unique and special! Be happy always.

Health / Side Effects Of Eating Too Much Salt by Danielaihie: 2:52pm On Oct 26, 2017
Wonder whether you're eating too much salt? The more salt you consume, the higher your blood pressure and excessive levels of it in your body over time can increase your risk of osteoporosis (a disease characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue) and other chronic conditions, so it's important to restrict your daily intake to no more than a teaspoon's per day. In line with this, we reveal the side effects of eating too much salt.

You are always using the toilet
Whether at night or during the day, frequent urination is a key sign of excessive salt intake, but it can also be a symptom of a number of other conditions, from an overactive bladder or urinary tract infection to type 2 diabetes. While it's usually nothing to worry about, see your doctor if you notice a change in your normal urinary habits.

You are constantly thirsty
If you often find your mouth gets drier and your thirst is unquenchable, chances are you could be taking too much salt. Like frequent urination, constant thirst can be a sign of other conditions such as type 2 diabetes, so make sure you get it evaluated by a doctor.

Your ankles swell
An excess of salt in your diet can lead to swollen ankles. Swollen ankles can be caused by water retention as a result of eating too much salt, but other conditions can give rise to swollen ankles.

You crave salty, savoury food
If you find yourself craving salty snacks, you could well be consuming too much salt. You will enjoy your food so much more if you cut your salt intake to acceptable guidelines.

You get frequent mild headaches
If you suffer from frequent mild headaches and have no idea what's causing them, you might want to reduce your salt intake. An overload of salt in the diet can lead to dehydration-induced headache symptoms. If cutting down on salt has no effect, your doctor will be able to help you figure out the cause.

Hinder kidney performance
A diet high in too much salt can actually slow the performance of your kidney. Too much salt can increase the amount of protein found in your urine. More protein in your urine is a major risk factor for kidney disease.

Events / Hacks For Throwing A Surprise Party by Danielaihie: 3:57pm On Oct 20, 2017
Throwing a surprise party can be a daunting task! Getting everyone organised, making sure the birthday person is really surprised and isn't faking it, lots of things to do and remember at the same time! These tips shared by Obiaks Blog should help you in planning an exciting and unforgettable surprise gig.

Go detective on them
If you are throwing a surprise party for someone it means you know them well. However, it's important to find out what they would like without giving anything away. A good way to do this is to get them talking about other parties they have been to.

Inform your guests that it is a surprise party
Make sure to tell people on the invitation that the event is a surprise party. This will help your guests to keep their lips sealed.

Plan a fake but realistic outing for the person the surprise is meant for
Get an accomplice or friend to plan a fake activity with the person the surprise is meant for. This will ensure that he or she will be available that day to have their surprise sprung. You can even let a few other guests in on the fake plans to help make it more realistic.

Don't tell children about the party
Sometimes children don't know how to hold a secret. It's best not to tell the little ones weeks before. You might want to tell them on the day itself or a few hours beforehand.

Always erase clue that may hint them that something is amidst
Make sure that no clues (obvious and less obvious) are left lying around that the Surprise may find out about. For example, if you send emails to people about the surprise party, and there's a chance the Surprise might see them, erase them.

Use social media to your advantage
Once you have assembled your team of surprise party planners, create a private Facebook group or use a group chat on WhatsApp to communicate and plan without the risk of the secret being revealed.

Delegate discretely
Once you have a date in mind, write a list of everything that needs to be done, bought and made for the event and then allocate roles. Planning a party can be a lot of fun, but it can also be a lot of work and often other people will want to help so let them as it takes some of the pressure off you. At the same time, ensure that you are discrete when delegating so that the Surprise will not suspect.

Health / Reasons To Stop Wearing Headphones Always by Danielaihie: 2:14pm On Oct 17, 2017
Headphones are very important because they make work and travel more fun. Therefore, it's so common today to see people strolling with their headphones. Despite the seeming advantage (s) of headphones, it should not be constantly plugged in your ears for the following reasons shared by Obiaks Blog.

You can't hear cars coming at you
It's much safer to walk around without your headphones. This is because you cannot hear cars coming at you and this can lead to an unavoidable accident. According to research, serious injuries have increased 300% in the last six years for pedestrians wearing headphones. So, make it a rule not to use your headphones on the road.

Headphones overuse can damage your ears
Your ears may be damaged if you overuse headphones. So it's probably best to let them breathe now and then.

You can't hear the people around you
For people who are headphone addicts, they must have been told several times by a friend that they called out to them and they didn't respond. Why? Because they had their headphone plugged in. If this is the report you always get, it is time to stop plugging your ears when you are around people.

You miss the little things
After sight, hearing is the most important sense that engages us. If we can see but lack the sound-correlated ambience, we become dissociated. It's like we are putting our minds on autopilot, and just going through the motions of daily life.

You risk coming off as rude
Even if you're the friendliest person around, headphones make you unapproachable. It makes it harder for people to call out to you.

Travel / Things To Do When You Miss Your Scheduled Flight by Danielaihie: 2:03pm On Oct 17, 2017
Your flight was scheduled for 10 am. But you are still in traffic or held up somewhere as at 9:30 am. You are gasping for breath fearing the worst. You arrived at the airport past 10, low and behold the flight had taken off! What will you do? Well, Obiaks Blog, got you covered as we share the things you should do.

Do not panic
Keeping calm can be hard when you miss a flight. What such circumstances really require is logical problem solving, a frame of mind best achieved when you are calm. This will enable you to direct your mind towards fixing the situation.

Ask the airline staff about your options
Depending on the reason why you missed your flight, you should reach out to the airline staff about your options before accepting your fate. You can make your decision based on their advice. But remember that you have favourable options if the reason for missing your flight was not your fault.

Check the departure boards
If your trip is very important that you cannot postpone or reschedule it, you can buy another ticket. Prior to this, check the departure boards to see which available airline is flying to your destination.

Reschedule your flight
After you have done everything humanly possible to travel and there is no solution, it is advisable that you reschedule your flight. This is even cheaper than booking an entirely new flight.

Make the call
Missing a flight is more painful if you are on a business trip. Nonetheless, endeavour to control the situation by letting whomever you are meeting know that you have missed your flight and you will not arrive on the agreed date. Kindly apologise and reschedule the meeting.

Learn from your mistakes
Mistakes do happen. But these same mistakes will happen repeatedly if we do not learn from them. So, whatever the reason for missing your flight may be, endeavour you take pragmatic actions to prevent them from occurring again.

Travel / Smart Things To Do When You Can't Fall Asleep On A Plane by Danielaihie: 1:56pm On Oct 17, 2017
For many reasons, it can sometimes be quite difficult to sleep on a plane. However, there are some measures to take when you're finding it difficult to fall asleep on a plane to make the experience less discomforting. Obiaks Blog shares 4 smart things to do when you can't fall asleep on a plane.

Use an Eye Mask
Light has a way of really interfering with your sleep, and there is still a substantial amount of light that can get through your closed eyelids. It is thus better for you to use an eye mask to help block some of this light, and reduce the impact of the lighting on your brain. An eye mask is also great for sending signals to people around you that you are not in the mood to talk and only want to relax.

Try To Sleep According to Your Internal Clock
Your internal or biological clock, also called the Circadian Clock, makes it significantly difficult to just sleep at anytime of the day. It is therefore best to learn to time your sleeping hours on the plane to coincide with your internal clock to make it easier for you to fall asleep. You can do this by either scheduling your flight to coincide with your internal clock or postponing your 'nap' on the plane to hours well into your 'sleep window'. Also, you can try booking early-morning flights that will force you to wake up earlier than you are used to waking up, to help increase your ability to sleep on the plane.

Try to Relax
If you can't fall asleep on the plane, you don't have to immediately get frustrated about it, you can just relax yourself. If you don't end up falling asleep, at least you will feel relaxed. Try to find what relaxes you or bring along items that help relax you, like a music or video player, travel pillows, an eye mask etc. Simply try to do whatever calms you or is pleasant to you.

Try To Remain Hydrated
If you are unable to fall asleep, one of the best things you can do to help yourself is to drink enough water and remain hydrated through the flight. This is because this can significantly help to reduce the effects of lack of sleep and jet lag on your body. Planes can be extremely dehydrating, it is thus best to drink up as much as is adequate. Your body will thank you for it.

Culture / Unique African Rites Of Passage by Danielaihie: 11:10am On Oct 13, 2017
African societies are known for marking the different transitions of a person's life cycle with different ritual or rites of passage. These rites of passages are quite unique and interesting to know, and they are a crucial aspect of the culture of Africans. Obiaks Blog shares 4 unique African rites of passage.

Childhood
Children are considered an important part of African societies because they are seen as the custodians of the traditions of the people. Because of the high child mortality in some African societies, these societies really go all out to celebrate the arrival of their children as a way to protect them from the 'evil spirits' they believe are responsible for the deaths. In Namibia for example, the Himba people never leave a newborn child on his/her own and they also hardly put the child down for fear that it might be stolen by evil and malicious spirits. The Wodaabe people of Niger, also avoid naming their newborns until the 12th birthday of that child to avoid the child being identified by the spirit of death.

Circumcision
In some African societies, it is believed that a child is initiated into adulthood through a circumcision ritual. It is this belief that made female circumcision popular in quite a number of African societies, but it has since been criminalized by the government of these societies or countries. Though some tribes still practice female genital mutilation, they do so in less harmful ways. For boys however, circumcision is still ongoing and more unanimous across the continent, though different African societies celebrate this rite of passage differently. The removal of the foreskin of the boy is often done by the village elders who use the ritual as an opportunity to pass down key traditions to the younger generations.

Marriage
In Africa, marriage is quite an important rite of passage that many communities consider an 'invaluable spiritual experience'. Fortunately or unfortunately, westernization has eroded or heavily modified majority of African traditional marriage practices but there are a handful of communities that still practice them to the letter. For example, the Surma people of Ethiopia usually arrange their marriages after a stick fighting contest in which young men thrash each other quite mercilessly with sticks to prove their readiness to become husbands. This tradition is quite similar to the Sharo tradition of the Fulani people, where a groom must endure flogging and beating and not wince or show pain to be considered eligible for marriage.

Death
Death is viewed differently across African societies. There are some societies that believe that death is the end of a person's journey through life, there others that believe that death signals a continuation of life into another world (a spiritual world) and there are some that believe that those who have passed on are just resting. Again, there are some communities that believe the spirits of the dead are watching over them. The varying beliefs about death makes African communities or societies have different ways of handling their deceased. There are some communities within the Yoruba people of Nigeria that believe in burying the dead with a horde of items for them to use in the afterlife, and there are even some communities that go as far as burying the dead with a living servant, so the servant can assist the person in the afterlife. This 'privilege' is however mainly reserved for kings. Also, in South Africa, some communities perform special rituals at the deceased person's home before the burial.

Eggs are a good choice as part of a healthy, balanced diet. As well as being a source of protein, they also contain vitamins and minerals. They can be part of a healthy meal that's quick and easy to make.

Since, Eggs is very good for the body, Obiaks Blog has decided to bring to light the health benefits of Eggs.

It is true that eggs are high in cholesterol. In fact, a single egg contains 212 mg, which is over half of the recommended daily intake of 300 mg. However, it's important to keep in mind that cholesterol in the diet doesn't necessarily raise cholesterol in the blood.
NB: People with genetic disorders like familial hypercholesterolemia or a gene type called ApoE4 may want to minimize or avoid eggs.

3. Eggs Raise HDL (the "Good"wink Cholesterol
HDL stands for High Density Lipoprotein. It is often known as the "good" cholesterol. People who have higher levels of HDL usually have a lower risk of heart disease, stroke and various health problems.
Eating eggs is a great way to increase HDL.

4. Eggs contains Choline which is an important nutrient.
Choline is a nutrient that most people don't even know exists. Yet, it is an incredibly important substance and is often grouped with the B vitamins, Choline builds cell membranes and has a role in producing signalling molecules in the brain, along with various other functions.
Dietary surveys have shown that about 90% of people in the U.S. are getting less than the recommended amount of choline.

Egg yolks actually contain large amounts of both Lutein and Zeaxanthin.

7. Eggs lowers Triglycerides
Of course, it doesn't just matter what we eat, it also matters what the foods that we eat, ate. In this regard, not all eggs are created equal. Their nutrient composition varies depending on how the hens were fed and raised. Eggs from hens that are raised on pasture and/or fed Omega-3 enriched feeds tend to be much higher in Omega-3 fatty acids.

8. Eggs Are High in Quality Protein, With All the Essential Amino Acids in the Right Ratios
Proteins are the main building blocks of the human body. Getting enough protein in the diet is very important and studies show that currently recommended amounts may be too low. Eggs are an excellent source of protein, with a single large egg containing 6 grams.

9. Eggs do not raise your risk of Heart disease and may reduce the risk of stroke
For many decades, eggs have been unfairly demonized. It has been claimed that because of the cholesterol in them, they must be bad for the heart. However, some studies have found that people with diabetes who eat eggs have an increased risk of heart disease.

10. Eggs Are Highly Fulfilling and Tend to Make You Eat Fewer Calories, Helping You Lose Weight
Eggs are high protein food, but protein is by far the most fulfilling macronutrient. Eating eggs instead of bagels for breakfast increased feelings of fullness and made them automatically eat fewer calories for the next 36 hours. Replacing a bagel breakfast with an egg breakfast causes significant weight loss over a period of 8 weeks.

Travel / Transport For London Will Fight Off Uber's Appeal In Court by Danielaihie: 2:03pm On Oct 12, 2017
- Transport for London will fight off Uber's appeal in court.

- Uber can continue to operate until the appeal has been reviewed.

- The cab booking company seeking to make amends rather than fight back.
After its decision not to renew Uber's license to operate in the British Capital in September, London's Mayor Sadiq Khan has hinted that Transport for London, the city's transport regulatory body will defend its decision in court as it fights off an appeal from the minicab booking app company.

Uber has until Friday to submit its appeal and can continue to operate until the appeal process has been exhausted, which could take several months. “The courts now will consider the appeal from Uber and of course TfL (Transport for London) will defend the decision they made,” Khan said during a monthly question time session.

Although Uber will expectedly lodge an appeal to get its license back and save the jobs and livelihood of its drivers, the company has taken a more relaxed approach to the whole process and has indicated it is more willing to make amends and resolve the concerns that led to the TFL's failure to renew its licence in September.

Health / Advantages Of Taking Breakfast by Danielaihie: 1:56pm On Oct 11, 2017
The literal meaning of the word "breakfast," is to break the fast between dinner and the meal eaten after a person wakes up the next morning. For most people, it can be up to 12 hours since their last meal, and yet they are quick to skip it as they rush out the door. Since breakfast is an important meal, Obiaks Blog puts together advantages of taking breakfast

1. Energy Boost to Start the Day
Start your day off right by eating as many vitamins and other nutrients as possible. The great thing about breakfast is there are so many common breakfast foods that can be considered super-foods because of their nutrition value such as Eggs, Whole grains, Fruits, Water etc.

2. Sharper Focus
By eating breakfast every morning, you are able to be more focused and productive until it's time to refuel at lunch. But when you skip out on breakfast, it's hard not to think about anything except food, especially with a noisy stomach that needs to be fed.

3. Breakfast Helps Reduce Morning Crankiness
Imagine going without food for 8 to 12 hours during the day; you probably won't be the most approachable person in the office or classroom. Do yourself, your classmates and your co-workers a favor by eating breakfast to help you deal with any morning moodiness and stress.

4. Metabolism Boost
When you sleep, your metabolism tends to slow down. The only way to jump start your metabolism for the day is to start off right with a healthy breakfast. This will allow your body to start burning through calories from the very beginning of the day, rather than in the middle of it after you've eaten lunch.

5. Prevents Starvation
When you're asleep, your body isn't burning as many calories. If you delay your first meal of the day till lunch, your body goes into survival mode and starts storing calories, creating fat. Do yourself a favor and take the time to have breakfast so your body doesn't think you're starving and needlessly store calories.

6. Keeps You From Overeating
If you prolong the amount of time between dinner and your next meal of the day, it's only natural that you end up eating more than you should. The hunger pangs and the thought of food all morning will only cause you to gorge at lunch, eating extra calories that can lead to obesity and other health complications.

7. Allows You to Properly Portion Your Meals
You may not feel very hungry when you initially wake up, but eating a healthy, balanced breakfast can help you plan and portion out your meals for the rest of the day. That way, you won't be tempted to binge eat or snack unnecessarily, both of which are unhealthy habits that can lead you to ignore your nutrition by satisfying hunger cravings with fatty foods anytime you like.

8. Helps Lower the "Bad" Cholesterol
Eating breakfast every morning can help lower LDL cholesterol, also known as the "bad" cholesterol. When you skip breakfast, you are creating a chain reaction within your body. First, you slow down your metabolism, Second, fat is stored longer in your body, Third, you have a higher tendency to overeat at your next meal and Fourth, you gain weight and your LDL cholesterol goes up.

9. Breakfast Can Be Nutritious and Delicious
Start the day off with a healthy and delicious meal. You can even indulge a bit with some crispy bacon, sausage links or pancakes. Just make sure to have something with a high nutritional value on the side like a slice of cantaloupe or a bowl of fresh fruits.

10. Eat Breakfast to Lose Weight
One of the greatest benefits of eating breakfast every morning is you can lose weight by doing so. Numerous studies have also shown that an increase in weight is commonly associated with skipping breakfast. The best part is, even if you eat too much or have something a little unhealthy, you still have the entire day to make up for it. Eating breakfast every morning is one of the easiest ways to lose weight and eat healthier.

Health / Foods\things To Eat When Stressed by Danielaihie: 1:39pm On Oct 11, 2017
Stress is a fact of nature in which forces from the inside or outside world affect the individual, either one's emotional or physical well-being, or both. The individual responds to stress in ways that affect the individual, as well as their environment. Due to the overabundance of stress in our modern lives, we usually think of stress as a negative experience, but from a biological point of view, stress can be a neutral, negative, or positive experience.

In general, stress is related to both external and internal factors. External factors include the physical environment, including your job, your relationships with others, your home, and all the situations, challenges, difficulties, and expectations you're confronted with on a daily basis. Internal factors determine your body's ability to respond to, and deal with, the external stress-inducing factors. Internal factors which influence your ability to handle stress include your nutritional status, overall health and fitness levels, emotional well-being, and the amount of sleep and rest you get, that's why Obiaks Blog has decided to bring to your notice, foods\things to eat when stressed;

1. Green Leafy Vegetables
Dark leafy greens like spinach are rich in folate, which helps your body produce mood-regulating neurotransmitters, including serotonin and dopamine. People who consumes the most folate has a lower risk of depression than those who eat the least.

2. Organic Turkey Breast
Turkey is a good source of tryptophan, an amino acid (protein building block) that your body converts into serotonin. Pumpkin seeds, nuts, and free-range organic eggs are also rich sources of tryptophan.

3. Fermented Foods
The secret to improving your mental health is in your gut, as unhealthy gut flora can have a detrimental impact your brain health, leading to issues like anxiety and depression. Beneficial bacteria have a direct effect on brain chemistry, transmitting mood- and behavior-regulating signals to your brain via your vagus nerve. Women who regularly eat yogurt containing beneficial bacteria have improved brain function compared to those who do not consume probiotics.

4. Wild-Caught Alaskan Salmon
Found in salmon, sardines, and anchovies, or supplement form, such as krill oil, the animal-based omega-3 fats EPA and DHA plays a role in your emotional well-being.

5. Blueberries
Anthocyanins are the pigments that give berries like blueberries and blackberries their deep color. These antioxidants aid your brain in the production of dopamine, a chemical that is critical to coordination, memory function, and your mood. Research has shown that blueberry eaters experience a boost in natural killer cells, 'a type of white blood cell that plays a vital role in immunity, critical for countering stress.

6. Pistachios
Eating two servings of pistachios a day lowers vascular constriction during stress, which means the load on your heart is reduced since your arteries are more dilated, not to mention, you might find the rhythmic act of shelling pistachios therapeutic, as doing a repetitive activity can help quiet racing thoughts in your head.

7. Dark Chocolate
If you're one of these individuals who gets a nice mood boost whenever you sink your teeth into a bar of pure, unadulterated chocolate, it is not happenstance. There's a chemical reason behind it called anandamide, a neurotransmitter produced in the brain that temporarily blocks feelings of pain and depression.

8. Sunshine
It's not technically a food, but a daily dose of sunshine might help stabilize your mood. Serotonin, the brain hormone associated with mood elevation, rises with exposure to bright light and falls with decreased sun exposure. Low vitamin D levels is associated with an increased risk of panic disorders. While you can get some vitamin D in foods like salmon, egg yolks, and mushrooms, your best solution for optimizing your levels is through sensible sun exposure.

9. Seeds
Magnesium, which acts as a precursor for neurotransmitters like serotonin, is well-known for its role in helping to regulate your emotions and enhance well-being. Seaweed and green leafy vegetables like spinach and Swiss chard can be excellent sources of magnesium, as are some beans, nuts, and seeds, like pumpkin, sunflower, and sesame seeds. Avocados also contain magnesium. Juicing your vegetables is an excellent option to ensure you're getting enough of them in your diet.

10. Avocado
Avocados provide close to 20 essential health-boosting nutrients, including potassium, vitamin E, B vitamins, and folate, and, according to research published in the Nutrition Journal, eating just one-half of a fresh avocado with lunch may satiate you if you're overweight, which will help prevent unnecessary snacking later.

Travel / Stress-free Ways To Get Through The Airport by Danielaihie: 9:36am On Oct 11, 2017
If you are a frequent flyer, you must have experienced several hours of delay at the airport. This delay may be of your own doing and not the airline or airport officials. To significantly lessen the time you spend at the airport, Obiaks Blog shares things you should do to help you get through the airport without stress.

Book an airline that allows online check-ins
Airport check-in is the process whereby passengers are accepted by an airline at the airport before they travel. The duration spans from 15 minutes to 4 hours depending on the destination and airline. As a passenger, you hand over any baggage that you do not wish or are not allowed to carry into the aircraft's cabin and receive a boarding pass before you can proceed to board their aircraft. When you arrive at your destination, you will collect your luggage with the pass. Some airlines that do online check-ins include Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad, and Kenya Airways etc.

Check if you have all your documents
Before you head off through security, check if you have all the right documents (passports, tickets, visas) as well as your wallet and phone. If you left something behind and you are through security, you will waste valuable time returning to search this document(s).

Find out what time you need to arrive for airport check-in
Being proactive has a key role to play when it comes to getting through the airport. One of such ways is to plan ahead and find out what time you need to check in for your flight. This information can be found on your boarding pass or on the booking confirmation. Do not forget that check-in times can vary depending on your destination.

Dress for check-in
There is no need to dress to the nines when going to the airport because you are going to take off your suit or blazer, cap, and shoes. So, don't wear attires that are going to take forever to take off and put on just so you can walk through the x-ray machine.

Do not join the security queue with kids in it
Airport officials spend more time screening individuals who are flying with kids. Instead, look for another queue without kids in it.

Be ready for security
Endeavour to have all your liquids, pastes and gels that are already in a sealable plastic bag before you get to security, and make sure it is easy to get to. Same goes for laptops and tablets. If you're wearing a belt with a metal buckle, it's best to take it off anyway, even if you're not asked to do so as it'll save you time.

Do not carry prohibited items
According to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), prohibited items on board an aircraft include firearms, pointed/ edged weapons and sharp objects, baseball or softball bats, explosives and flammable substances and chemical and toxic substances.

Health / Health Benefirs Of Cucumber by Danielaihie: 9:27am On Oct 11, 2017
Cucumbers are the fourth most cultivated vegetable in the world and known to be one of the best foods for your body's overall health, often referred to as a superfood. Cucumbers are often sprayed with pesticides so it is important to buy organic or even better, grow them yourself. However, Obiaks Blog has decided to bring o your knowledge the health benefits of eating Cucumber;

1. Protect Your Brain
Cucumbers contain an anti-inflammatory flavonol called fisetin that appears to play an important role in brain health. In addition to improving your memory and protecting your nerve cells from age-related decline,1 fisetin has been found to prevent progressive memory and learning impairments in mice with Alzheimer's disease.

2. Reduce Your Risk of Cancer
Cucumbers contain polyphenols called lignans (pinoresinol, lariciresinol, and secoisolariciresinol), which may help to lower your risk of breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate cancers. They also contain phytonutrients called cucurbitacins, which also have anti-cancer properties.

3. Fight Inflammation
Cucumbers may help to "cool" the inflammatory response in your body, and animal studies suggest that cucumber extract helps reduce unwanted inflammation, in part by inhibiting the activity of pro-inflammatory enzymes (including cyclo-oxygenase 2, or COX-2).

4. Antioxidant Properties
Cucumbers contain numerous antioxidants, including the well-known vitamin C and beta-carotene. They also contain antioxidant flavonoids, such as quercetin, apigenin, luteolin, and kaempferol, which provide additional benefits.

5. Freshen Your Breath
Placing a cucumber slice on the roof of your mouth may help to rid your mouth of odor-causing bacteria. Eating cucumbers may also help to release excess heat in your stomach, which is said to be a primary cause of bad breath.

6. Manage Stress
Cucumbers contain multiple B vitamins, including vitamin B1, vitamin B5, and vitamin B7 (biotin). B vitamins are known to help ease feelings of anxiety and buffer some of the damaging effects of stress.

7. Support Your Digestive Health
Cucumbers are rich in two of the most basic elements needed for healthy digestion: water and fiber. Adding cucumbers to your juice or salad can help you meet the ideal of amount of fiber your body needs.Your body needs 50 grams per 1,000 calories consumed. If you struggle with acid reflux, you should know that drinking water can help suppress acute symptoms of acid reflux by temporarily raising stomach pH; it's possible that water-rich cucumbers may have a similar effect. Cucumber skins contain insoluble fiber, which helps add bulk to your stool. This helps food to move through your digestive tract more quickly for healthy elimination.

8. Maintain a Healthy Weight
Cucumbers are very low in calories, yet they make a filling snack (one cup of sliced cucumber contains just 16 calories). The soluble fiber in cucumbers dissolves into a gel-like texture in your gut, helping to slow down your digestion. This helps you to feel full longer and is one reason why fiber-rich foods may help with weight control.

9. Support Heart Health
Cucumbers contain potassium, which is associated with lower blood pressure levels. A proper balance of potassium both inside and outside your cells is crucial for your body to function properly. As an electrolyte, potassium is a positive charged ion that must maintain a certain concentration (about 30 times higher inside than outside your cells) in order to carry out its functions, which includes interacting with sodium to help control nerve impulse transmission, muscle contraction, and heart function.

10. Cucumbers are made up of 95 percent water, making them an ideal hydrating and cooling food

11. Cucumbers contain an anti-inflammatory flavonol called fisetin that appears to play an important role in your brain health

12. Cucumbers also contain polyphenols called lignans, which may help to lower your risk of breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate cancers

13. Cucumber extract helps reduce unwanted inflammation, in part by inhibiting the activity of pro-inflammatory enzymes (including cyclo-oxygenase 2, or COX-2)

14. Cucumbers are low in calories and high in fiber, which makes them useful for both weight loss and digestive health

Culture / Great Achievements Of Ancient Africans Most People Don't Know by Danielaihie: 3:10pm On Oct 10, 2017
Despite suffering through slavery, oppression, mismanagement and a host of other vices, Africa is a continent that has fought to remain strong, admirable and formidable amidst suffering and oppression. One of such admirable aspects of Africa is its achievement in significant areas of life and work that many might not even be aware of. Obiaks Blog fills in this gap by sharing 4 great achievements of ancient Africans most people don't know.

Mathematical Achievements
Many modern high-school level concepts in mathematics were first developed in Africa. More than 35,000 years ago, Egyptians scripted textbooks that included basic mathematical concepts like division and multiplication of fractions and geometric formulas to calculate the area and volume of shapes. The ancient Egyptians were the ones who considered a circle to be 360 degrees and estimated pie at 3.16. They also calculated distances and angles, solved algebraic equations and carried out mathematically based predictions on the size of the floods of the Nile. In addition, eight thousand years ago, the people in present-day Zaire developed their own numeration system, as did the Yorubas in present-day Nigeria. The Yoruba numeration system was based on units of 20 (instead of 10), and scholars have lauded this because it required an impressive amount of abstract reasoning and subtraction to identify different numbers.

Architecture and Engineering
Many ancient African societies built sophisticated environments. The Egyptians pyramids are very good examples of the engineering feats of ancient African societies. Later in the 12th century, in the far south, there were hundreds of great and architecturally brilliant cities built in Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Massive stone complexes were the hub of these cities, and one even included a 250-meter-long, 15,000-ton curved granite wall. The cities had huge castle-like compounds with numerous rooms for specific tasks like iron-smithing. In the 13th century, the Mali empire was another African society that boasted of impressive cities, including Timbuktu, with grand palaces, mosques and universities.

Metallurgy and Tools
Some ancient African societies were responsible for a good number of the advances in metallurgy and tool making. Advances in Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda between 1,500 and 2,000 years ago were believed to have surpassed those of the Europeans, and were astonishing to the Europeans when they learned of them. For example, Ancient Tanzanian furnaces could reach 1,800°C, which was 200 to 400°C warmer than those of the Romans.

Astronomical Achievements
It is believed that several ancient African cultures birthed discoveries in astronomy. Some of these discoveries are foundations on which the field of astronomy still relies on for footing, while some others were so advanced that their mode of discovery has still not been understood. Egyptians were responsible for a good number of these discoveries and they charted the movement of the sun, constellations and the cycles of the moon. They are believed to have divided the year into 12 parts and developed a yearlong calendar system containing 365 and a quarter days. They made their clocks with moving water and used sundial-like clocks.
Additionally, the Dogon people of Mali also garnered a wealth of detailed astronomical observations, with discoveries so advances that some modern day scholars actually refuse to credit them with the discoveries. They credit their discoveries instead to space aliens or unknown Europeans travelers. The Dogon people are believed to have known about Saturn's rings, Jupiter's moons, the spiral structure of the Milky Way and the orbit of the Sirius star system. Hundreds of years ago, they plotted orbits in this system accurately through the year 1990. They knew this system contained a primary star and a secondary star (now called Sirius B) of immense density and not visible to the naked eye.
