Do you experience that most foreign calls coming into Nigeria since last month do change to Nigerian numbers. My friends abroad call me recently and i thought it a number from Nigeria but when i recieved the call the voice will state that it a friend abroad. I wonder if they are back they will say no but the they use in calling me is a Nigeria number and not a foriegn no.

You should have board air france. My friend board it and it was really great. Air france is the best flight to the state.

ABEOKUTA—Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, held a-three-hour- closed door meeting with five governors of the people’s Democratic Party, PDP, in his home and declared that, the problems facing the country are redeemable.

Obasanjo who hosted to Governors Godswill Akpabio of Akwa-Ibom, Babangida Aliyu of Niger, Sule Lamido of Jigawa, Isa Yuguda of Bauchi and Liyel Imoke of Cross-River states said the closed door meeting was to deliberate on the serious problems affecting the country.

The governors who were led by the Chairman of PDP governors, Akpabio, into the palatial private home of the former President located at Olusegun Obasanjo Hiltop, in Abeokuta at 12:noon went straight to one of the private rooms of the former President for the meeting.

They emerged from the meeting three hours after and addressed newsmen who had besieged the house of the former President.

Security and economy

Addressing newsmen, Obasanjo thanked the governors for their concern for the nation, saying; “They were concerned about what you may call the situation of the nation-security and economy.

‘’I have raised most of what we discussed in my own public pronouncements in recent times, not to castigate anybody, not to bad-mouth anybody, not to run anybody down, but, out of genuine concern for the situation of this country and that is the same thing that brought them and I want to thank them.

“When we looked at these issues closely, very objectively, we came to the conclusion that, we have a bad situation, but, not irredeemably bad. Something can still be done and what now is required is the will and the courage to do something when and how it needs to be done. We agreed on that.

“I appreciate their coming to me because of the respect and honour they have for me, this task is not for one man and it is not even a task for one group, it is a task that requires all hands on deck and as they have said and assured me, they will hold this type of consultation with other leaders in the interest of this country which is ours and for which we have no alternatives.

“The other day, somebody told me he knows NADECO route but I do not want to follow NADECO route.

It is incumbent on us to do what is right , with men like them; Issa Yuguda, Godswill Akpabio, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu the Chief Servant, Sule Lamido and a very good Liyel Imoke, who are colleagues with whom I have worked, they will like to call themselves my sons.”

On falling oil price

When asked if he was scared over the dwindling price of oil and the attendant consequences on the economy, Obasanjo said, he was never scared but, lamented that Nigeria should have prepared for the rainy day.

He said “I am never scared by anything but I am concerned that firstly, when we had surplus, we did not remember the rainy day, now ,that the rainy day is staring us in the face, we must be honest and courageous enough to do what is right, to let the nation know and then to take the steps that will put it right as quickly as possible and you do not need to be an oracle or a world bank expert or an International Monetary Fund expert to know that our economy is not what it should be.

“And this is not the first time we would hear it, we have heard it in the past when of course I came in in1999, the price of oil was about $9 and we realised that we had a problem, we even made budget that we could not fund but we realised that we were in a serious situation and we took steps, within two to three years, we were able to sail through, the price of fuel started moving up.

“Do not forget that there was a time during the Iraqi war, price of fuel rose to $42 and then it came down to $9, the one that we have now, we do not know when it would bottom and at what price it would bottom but we can weather the storm if we take measure that we should take it and when to take it”.
Akpabio speaks

While speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Akpabio said the governors who were elected on the platform of the PDP decided to pay a visit to the former President because of the role he played in the emergence of the current democracy and the role he played both nationally and internationally.

He said: “So, we decided that it is important for us to come and consult with him, as he said, pay our respect, discuss the affairs of the nation and then to tap from his wealth of wisdom.

“The intention here is that all Nigerians are determined to reposition the country, we have no other country than Nigeria and so, no matter the challenges we may face today, we must work together as a team to redeem the situation. I want to thank our dear leader for receiving us and for what he said that the situation is redeemable and that we must also consult other leaders and work to ensure that the country is redeemed.”

Also speaking, Governor of Niger State, Dr. Babangida Aliyu said: “ We have come to consult with the oracle of leadership and politics of this country and we have benefited tremendously with our coming.”

FORMER Head of State, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has accused the President Goodluck Jonathan administration of playing to the gallery on security, a reason he argued has made the Boko Haram insurgency assume a dangerous dimension in the last four years.

Reacting to a statement by Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, accusing him of playing politics with the insurgency and unpatriotically refusing to join hands with Federal Government to address the problem until he is elected president, Buhari said he is “disheartened by the grotesque characterization of his personality” by PDP.

He insisted that Boko Haram will be a thing of the past if he is elected, adding that he remains a patriot who played crucial roles in getting Jonathan sworn-in as acting president in 2010.

In a statement by Engr. Rotimi Fashakin, the presidential aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, said he is “horrified by the bare-faced falsehood, insidious fallacy and scurrilous untruth contained in the statement of the ruling party, just for the purpose of cheap political agenda, bearing similarities with the despicable Emperor Nero, who was fiddling while Rome burned.

“It is an irreproachable fact that Boko Haram insurgency has assumed this intolerably dangerous dimension in the last four years, because this regime has chosen to play devious politics with a national calamity.

“The same known founders of the dreaded insurgency group have become the confidants of the President. On September 9, in Djamena, Chad, Nigeria’s President, Chadian President and one of these elements were photographed in a meeting together.


“At that time, APC, through its spokesman, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said inter-alia: ‘This action by President Jonathan confirms what APC has always believed.

“‘That the President either knows more than he is willing to admit on the issue of those who are behind the Boko Haram insurgency or he is willing to sacrifice the battle against terrorism on the altar of political expediency’.

“While Nigerian villages, schools and markets were easily overrun with maniacal fury by the insurgent group because of inadequate security, this same individual enjoyed very large armada of security men provided by the government of Jonathan.

“Aside his show of undisguised patriotic love for Nigeria in his glorious career in the Nigerian military, General Buhari has always shown statesman-like interventions at critical times in the nation’s current democratic order.

In January 14, 2010, whilst a tiny cabal tried to hold the entire nation to ransom, thus preventing the Vice President Goodluck Jonathan from assuming the role of Acting President, General Muhammadu Buhari led a delegation of patriotic Nigerians to the Senate, with a passionate plea to the Upper Legislative chamber to do the needful for the continuity of governance in the country.

“In May 8, after the abduction of over 270 school girls in Chibok, Borno State, and as part of rallying the citizenry towards cooperation with the Federal Government in the fight against Insurgency, General Buhari wrote inter-alia:

“‘Let these people know that the entire civilized world is united against their terrorist act. We are grateful to the world for standing by Nigeria at this trying time. We hope and pray that the young ladies will be reunited with their respective families in the days to come.’

Preaches unity

“Now is not the time to play politics. Now is also not the time to trade blames and amplify our ideological differences.

“The unity of Nigeria is not negotiable and nothing should divide us as a people.

“Without a doubt, PDP leaders are awfully wrong in believing that their blinkered view of the nation’s affairs, due to the affliction of selective amnesia, can detract from the determination of Nigerians to use their votes to effect the desired change in the leadership of the nation in February 2015.”

A 33-year-old man, Anthony Egidi, has said he joined kidnapping business in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, out of frustration and had made millions from kidnapping no fewer than seven persons in Lagos, Benin, and in Delta State.

KidnapperAccording to the Police, other suspects include Steve, Tony, Nyerowo, Steve and late Apopfure, who died during a gun duel with police in Lagos.

It was gathered that the suspects operated with two AK-47 rifle and three local guns, which have been recovered from them.

Egidi was arrested on October 26 in Ekenwan, Benin, Edo State, by Lagos State Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, led by Abba Kyarri.



His story

Egidi, who is a native of Delta State and married with two children, resides at Awoyaya Ibeju, Lekki Road, said his first operation was “when we kidnapped a woman in Warri, Delta State on October 2011 and I got N280,000.

“During the first and second operations, the gang did not disclose the venue to me. They blindfolded me because I was new in the team.

“After the second job, we moved to Benin to kidnap a man. I was given N100,000. I believed it was a cool business.

“The third operation made me a millionaire, because I was given N2.8 million.

“I drove the gang in that operation, but I did not know where they kept the woman. We collected N9 million in the fourth operation. When we kidnapped a man in Benin, I was also given N1.5 million.

“We moved to Delta State between Oroku and Abeh Road, where we kidnapped a man. I was given N3.5 million.

“After making millions of naira in South-East, we moved to South-West. Our sixth operation was at Eleko Junction, Ajah in June. We collected N1.6 million ransom from the person and I was given 300,000.

“The seventh operation was when we kidnapped a Keystone Bank worker on her way home. We were seven when we attacked her.

“We took her to a bush, where she spent six days. We did not rape her. We gave her everything she requested for and we usually buy her food from Mr. Biggs and some other places.

“We told her family to pay N6 million. Even the woman was ready to give us N10 million.

“One of our guys was arrested when he went to collect the money. When police arrived, we exchanged fire with them and lost two members.

“I used the money to buy a car, four plots of land in Benin, one plot in Lagos and opened a supermarket for my wife.

“My wife believed I was a welder. She only got to know what I do when I was arrested.”

The United States Embassy has said no American was on board the helicopter that crashed in Yola, Adamawa State on Monday.

A statement by the Information Office, Public Affairs Section, US Embassy, Abuja, on Tuesday, said the United States maintains a robust counter-terrorism and dynamic relationship with Nigeria and pledged continued support for actions to stop the Boko Haram insurgency.

It said, “No American was involved in the Yola helicopter crash as reported on Tuesday, November 11,2014 by some Nigerian news outlets.

“The ‎United States maintains a robust counter terrorism and dynamic bilateral relationship with the Government of Nigeria.

“We remain committed in our support to Nigeria’s efforts to stop the abhorrent actions of Boko Haram and associated terrorist groups.”

THE military has begun an all-out offensive against the Boko Haram terrorists in the northern part of Adamawa State.

Informed military source disclosed to the Nigerian Tribune that some foreign troops had joined the Nigerian military in the fight against the insurgents.

The source revealed that foreign fighter helicopters were also involved in the operation to wipe out the insurgents in the area.

It was gathered that one of the foreign helicopters crashed on Monday, but the pilots survived and were rescued. The crash was attributed to technical faults and not enemy action.

The military source said the Nigerian troops, in company with their foreign counterparts, had captured most of the towns hitherto in the hands of the terrorists and were now advancing to Mubi.

It was also revealed that local hunters in the area had joined in the war against terrorists, as they captured them alive and handed them over to the military.

Some of the foreign troops said to be involved in the onslaught were Israelis and Americans.

It was learnt that intelligence reports revealed that ISIS terrorists had been giving Boko Haram terrorists support and this made the foreign troops to join the fight to send them out of the North-East.

The source added that the international community was worried with the new dimension the terrorists’ action had taken with the support of ISIS and had vowed to flush them out from this part of Africa.

Suspected Boko Haram fighters stole dynamite and pick-up trucks from a French-owned cement works in Nigeria after robbing a bank, in a raid to fund and pursue their campaign of violence in the northeast of the African nation.

The attack in Ashaka, in Gombe state, on Tuesday came after the Islamists robbed a bank, blew up a police station and razed a political party office 20 kilometres (12 miles) away in Nafada.

Both incidents again demonstrated Boko Haram’s apparent ability to strike at will and further punctured government claims that a ceasefire deal has been reached to end five years of bloodshed.

Boko Haram funds its operations in part through bank robberies and has previously stolen vehicles including armoured personnel carriers, weapons and ammunition from the Nigerian military.

Unlike previous attacks in recent months in the far northeast, the militants did not attempt to hold the town, leaving when they secured their loot.

French diplomats in Nigeria said none of its nationals was taken in the raid. The head of the Lafarge group, Bruno Lafont, said operations had not been affected.

“The factory was the target of intruders. There were no injuries. There was no damage in the factory,” he told reporters in Paris on Wednesday.

“This morning (Wednesday), the situation is still calm and everything is back to normal.”

The Lafarge plant, set up in 1974, is the largest cement works in northern Nigeria and employs about 500 people, including an unspecified number of expatriates.

The gunmen stormed the site at about 3:00 pm (1400 GMT), according to one worker, Amadu Wunti, who said they looted high explosives and demanded to be taken to where expatriate managers stay.

Wunti identified the expatriates as French nationals but the Lafarge group said it did not comment on its foreign staff for security reasons.

At the time, the plant was mostly empty, with staff having run to safety when news spread that the gunmen were coming after the raid in Nafada, which left at least 10 dead, according to residents.

Locals Abubakar Galda and Awwal Ibrahim said five soldiers were killed at a checkpoint and four worshippers were shot dead at a mosque with the town’s most senior cleric.

Wunti’s account was supported by several others, including another staff member, who said: “They (the militants) pulled out after the raid. They did not hurt or kidnap anyone.

“But they took eight company vehicles and lots of dynamite used in quarry work. The attackers, which included young women, broke into the store and loaded dynamite into the vehicles and drove off.”

Gombe State Government on Wednesday ordered the closure of all public and private schools in the state, a day after attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on two towns in the state.

The parents who took their children to school on Wednesday were told to take them back as the schools had been closed on the orders of the government.

Mrs Edith Williams, Headmistress, Bethany International College, Gombe said that said she received a circular on Tuesday evening that all schools should be closed down for security reasons.

Some parents who spoke commended the state government for the action, saying it was a necessary action to safeguard the students.

One of the parents, Mrs Hannatu Musa said she was happy with the development as it would help to secure the children.

Both the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Education were not available for comment, but Alhaji Sani Jauro, Permanent Secretary, Government House, confirmed the development.

He however said that the closure of the schools had nothing to do with security threats to the state but a “normal mid-term break for students”.

The gunmen had on Tuesday attacked Nafada and Ashaka, over 130 kilometres from Gombe, barely a week after suspected terrorists had exploded a bomb at a motor park in the state capital. (NAN)

Seven days after Boko Haram insurgents seized Mubi, the commercial nerve centre and second largest town in Adamawa as well as Vimtim, home town of Defence Chief, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, the Federal Government, yesterday, gave a marching order to the military to flush out the terrorists from the occupied areas immediately.

This happened on a day that more than 23 people were killed after two suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers burst into the Shi’ite Muslim procession in Potiskum, Yobe State to commemorate the new Islamic calendar. It was also a day gunmen attacked Kogi prison, setting 145 inmates free.

In Adamawa, to ensure that the terrorists were flushed out from the occupied areas, more attack helicopter gunships and surveillance aircraft were deployed, yesterday, while the new General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General FO Alli, whose Area of Responsibility (AOR) includes Adamawa State, was said to have relocated to Yola.

It was gathered that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. KTJ Minimah tasked him to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that Mubi and Vimtim were retaken in the shortest possible time.

The Federal Government was said to have given the military the marching order following intelligence reports that the new upsurge in Boko Haram attacks may have been influenced by political motives to ensure that political activities do not take place in the North East zone of the country.

Vanguard gathered that a time frame was given to the GOC and the Commander of the Air Force Strike Group in Yola within which to push out the terrorists. Air Force helicopter gunships (Mi35 and the Super Puma attack helicopters) have commenced softening the grounds with light attacks preparatory to a massive onslaught, it was gathered.

A senior officer who spoke to Vanguard disclosed that by the directive the Government wanted to prove the insurgents wrong that they can take over Mubi and nothing will happen. The thinking has created uncertainty among residents of Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.

The Federal Government’s directive it was further gathered, followed intelligence findings which showed that with the successful derailment of the failed bid of the group to invade and take over Maiduguri, using Konduga and Kawuri as launch pad, they have turned to plan ‘B’ which is to push for Yola.

Suicide bombers kill 23 in Yobe

Meanwhile, on the suicide bombing in Potiskum, the incident was said to have taken place at about 10 am on Old Market Road. 48 people were injured in the first blast; before the other suicide bomber was arrested yesterday by the police. Speaking on the incident in Damaturu, the Police Commissioner; Danladi Markus in a telephone interview said:

“There was a Monday morning blast in Potiskum, that claimed the lives of more than a dozen people with the injuring of others, but I cannot give you the exact figure as I am on my way to the scene of the blast, 100 kilometres from the state capital. At this moment, I am travelling to Postiskum to assess the extent of damage to both lives and property.

“One of the suspects was arrested at the blast scene, while the military and police rescue teams have evacuated many people to Postiskum hospital for treatment.”

Hamza Isa, a resident of Potiskum also said: “When the blast went off by 10am this morning, all of us ran in different directions for safety, as the explosion rented the air with deafening sounds before soldiers and policemen rushed to the blast scene near the Old Market.

“The security operatives responded with sporadic gunshots to show their readiness to stem any further attack on the town and this caused panic among traders to flee into various directions, leaving the streets and market empty for over three hours.”

Similarly, during last Saturday’s nomination of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam at the August 27 Stadium, Damaturu, a disruption threat letter was issued to operatives of security agencies in the state, before yesterday’s blast in Potiskum that claimed lives of innocent residents.

Meanwhile, Governor Gaidam has condemned the attack, describing it as heinous, barbaric and unwarranted. A statement signed by the governor’s spokesman, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego said:

“Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam has been informed of an attack in Potiskum town on Monday (yesterday) during an annual procession of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, marking Ashurah. The governor notes that those behind the attack are criminals who want to fan the embers of religious discord. He called on all the people of the state to remain calm and vigilant.

“Governor Gaidam has prayed the Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant eternal repose to those killed in the attack and quick recovery to those who sustained injuries”.

The governor, according to the statement, has also directed government hospitals in the area to provide immediate free medical treatment to all victims of the attack.

Mubi attack: NEMA Records 10, 496 IDPs in five camps in Yola

Following the recent attacks on Mubi town by Boko Haram insurgents, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ASEMA) have recorded 10,496 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in five camps situated in Yola south and Fufore, while more people are still pouring into the state capital. Five women were also safely delivered babies in two of the IDP camps.

Making the disclosure while leading a special team to the state, the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation of NEMA, Mr. Eugene Ezeh said that the agency had delivered adequate relief materials to all the established camps in the state and the new one would be provided with tents.

Receiving the NEMA team, the Adamawa State Governor, Bala James Ngilari, said that the state government had sent vehicles for the evacuation of thousands of displaced persons who were scattered in various locations around Mubi and those that ran into Cameroon to established camps in Yola.

He said: “The tragedy has really stressed us, we require your intervention for both short and long term”.

He noted that majority of the displaced persons live with their relatives in the host communities, while appealing to them to come forward and register so that they too could benefit from whatever was provided.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Alhaja Zainab Maina said President Goodluck Jonathan assigned her to assess the situation and assured them of his continuous support up to the time when they would be going back to their homes. She said the Federal Government has been doing everything possible to see the end of the insurgency.

The camps are in Dawarei, Girei, Malkwohi, Nyako Housing Estate, NYSC camp and COCIN Church. Relief items provided at all the camps include drugs, rice, clothes, mattresses, maize, buckets, mats, soaps, towels, cooking oil and sanitary items.

Nik Wallenda, the King of the High Wire, successfully completed what he called the most dangerous stunt he’s ever attempted, taking two spine-tingling walks on high wires between skyscrapers in Chicago.

One walk was 200 yards long with an incredible 19-degree incline. The other was shorter—93 feet (see video above)—but he did it blindfolded, and he did both as millions of viewers watched in breath-taking amazement on Discovery Channel and online.

An official from Guinness World Records was on hand to certify Wallenda’s feats as world records—highest incline tightrope walk at 670.73 feet and the highest blindfolded tightrope walk at 557.89 feet.
A seemingly calm Wallenda made the first walk from the 588-foot West Marina Tower to the 671-foot Leo Burnett Building over the Chicago River look easy, carrying on a casual conservation with his father and those associated with the event during the near 7-minute walk.

“I’m definitely not taking my time,” he said at one point. “Unfortunately, I planned to do a selfie right now, but I’m not going to do one.”

As he’s done with previous walks, he relied heavily on his faith. “God is in control,” he said while walking. “Thank you God for the amazing talent you’ve given me.”

When he reached the end, the estimated crowd of 65,000 on the streets below gave out a cheer.

“Wow,” Wallenda responded. “Amazing the roar of that crowd. How awesome.”
The second walk 20 minutes later was much more intense as he walked from the West Marina Tower to the East Marina Tower.

“You probably saw me shaking like a leaf,” Wallenda told Discovery Channel afterward. “That wire was shaking underneath me. I just wanted to make it to the other side. I wasn’t going to think twice. I was just getting to where I was going.”

Wearing a blindfold certified by Guinness World Records, Wallenda listened for a special device that gave a pinging sound at the finish to give him direction, and his father, using a megaphone, alerted him when he was two steps away from the joint where stabilizing cables were connected to the high wire.

He reached the other side in just 1 minute, 15 seconds. When he finished, Wallenda looked out at the crowd below and blew them a kiss, waved, and said, “Praise God. Thank you Jesus.”

The blindfolded walk was definitely more intense and more difficult for Wallenda than the longer uphill walk, performed in 44-degree weather with only a little bit of wind.

“The big thing was the intimidation factor,” he told Discovery Channel. “When you walk to the edge of a building and look down 600 feet and say I’m going to do this blindfolded and there’s wind—but even though the wind was light, and praise God for that—still there’s wind. Even hearing that, it’s extremely intimidating.
“So that’s the hardest part of what I do is waiting to go. I want to go. I want to get on that wire. I want to get across the other side. That way I know I’m across and I’m safe.

“I’m so thankful for all the training I was able to do…Clearly it paid off. You saw me walk right across that incline wire. There were some times when I had some strong gusts of wind. There was times I had crosswinds and it was definitely a lot steeper than in training, but I felt confident and was able to make it across safely.”

In preparation for the event, Wallenda practiced for three weeks on identical rigging in his hometown of Sarasota, Florida, with wind machines replicating anticipated conditions.

In Chicago, officials closed two bridges, two long sections of streets, and a stretcth of the river below. They also issued a set of rules in advance of the event, according to the Chicago Tribune. During the event, area residents were barred from using drones or laser pointers, playing loud music, grilling, yelling or taking pictures with flash cameras.

Wallenda, a married father of three, now holds nine Guinness World Records for various high-wire and acrobatic feats. He signed a contract with Discovery Channel in 2012 for near-exclusive broadcast rights for his stunts.

In June 2013, Wallenda walked across a 1,400-foot-long wire stretched over a 1,500-foot-deep canyon near the Grand Canyon and did so without a safety harness or net.

The stunt was broadcast live on Discovery Channel and reached 13 million viewers, making it Discovery’s highest-rated live event ever. It also generated 1.3 million tweets, ranking it as the most social show across all broadcast and cable networks in the U.S.

After completing that stunt, Wallenda immediately started talking about his next stunt, expressing a desire to walk between two skyscrapers. So now that he’s accomplished that, what’s next?

Wallenda said his life is about carrying on a legacy and that his great grandfather’s greatest walk of his career was over 600-feet high and over a thousand-feet long and he did two headstands, one for the troops and one for all of his fans.

“I’ve never done a headstand on a wire publicly so my goal is to recreate it,” he said. “It’s the 45-year anniversary next year and I want to recreate that walk.”

Over 130 inmates have escaped a prison after it came under attack in central Nigeria.

Local sources said on Monday that at least 132 prisoners are on the run after unidentified attackers used dynamite to free them from the Koton Karfi prison in the city of Lokoja, Kogi state, Sunday evening.

“There were 145 prisoners at the time of the attack. One died, eight have been recaptured and four surrendered voluntarily. The rest are at large,” said Jacob Edi, spokesman for Kogi’s Governor Idris Wada.

In 2012, the Boko Haram Takfiri militants claimed an attack on the same prison, where many of their fellows were thought to be held.

The prison break comes as a bomb attack in the northeastern state of Yobe killed at least 15 people and injured some 50 others.

The bombing was carried out while Shia Muslims were mourning the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH).

Yobe, along with some other regions in Nigeria, has been the scene of numerous terrorist attacks by Takfiri militants, including Boko Haram, in the past months.

Since the beginning of its operations in 2009, Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for numerous deadly shooting attacks and bombings in various parts of Nigeria, which have left more than 10,000 people dead.

Boko Haram, whose name means “Western education is forbidden,” says its goal is to overthrow the Nigerian government.
