Financial Crimes Commission arrested
four directors of the institution.

revenues realised from the use of
facilities at the National Theatre into
the Federal Government Treasury

N24 m annual rent paid by Nigerian
Breweries Plc for its branded kiosks
and N9 m paid for the use of National
Theatre during the “ Lagos @ 50 ”
celebrations.

The Federal Government has
condemned the attack on Ogba Zoo
and Nature Park in Benin, Edo State ,
on Sunday , during which three
policemen were killed and the Head of
the Zoo, Dr. Andy Ehanire , was
abducted by the attackers.
The Minister of Information and
Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed , who
made the government’ s position
known in a statement issued on
Monday, described the attack on one
of the country ’ s foremost tourist
destinations as a big blow to ongoing
efforts to lift the tourism sector in the
country .
He said , ” The success or failure of a
tourism destination depends largely on
a safe and secure environment .
Incidences such as the attack on the
Ogba Zoo and Nature Park therefore
negate the concept of tourism as well
as government ’s determination to
develop our tourism industry as a tool
for socio - economic development . ” The killing of the three policemen
attached to the zoo to provide security
for fun seekers, the abduction of the
zoo boss and the trauma suffered by
the visitors who witnessed the attack
are saddening , condemnable and most
unfortunate. ”
Mohammed said the government will
step up security in the entire tourist
sites in the country in order to
prevent a recurrence, while urging the
abductors of Ehanire to quickly release
him unharmed .
He also sent his condolences to the
families of the policemen who were
killed in the attack , and prayed that
God will grant repose to their souls. |
A Customary Court sitting in Ikole -
Ekiti on Monday adjourned hearing in
a divorce case to March 28 , 2018 , after
a housewife , Mrs Adenike Ogunsakin ,
prayed it to place her husband,
Olamide Olabode on a six - month
probation that he would be of good
behaviour.
Adenike had filed for the divorce of
her nine - year marriage to Olamide
over alleged constant physical abuse
by her husband.
At the last adjourned date , the
President of the Court , Mrs Yemisi Ojo ,
who sued for amicable resolution of
the matter, ordered the embattled
couple to seek family members ’
intervention .
But at the resumed hearing on
Monday, the petitioner told the court
that some family members had
intervened with the husband’s promise
to a turn a new leaf . She, however , urged the court to place
her husband on six months ’ probation
before she could file for withdrawal of
the case . Adenike told the court that the period
would allow her to do a proper -
behavioural- change assessment of
Olamide as he had promised both
families.
“ I want to inform the court that as
directed that we should allow family
members to intervene on the last
adjourned date , our families had
settled the matter for us.
” At the resolution meeting of both
parties, my husband promised to
change for good and has started
towing that line of good behaviour.
“ But I want the court to give me six
months to place him on probation if
he will truly change because we have
had such amicable settlements in the
past only for my husband to renege on
his promises, ” she told the court. |

Buhari congratulates Merkel on election victory President Muhammadu Buhari has joined other world leaders to congratulate the German Chancellor , Angela Merkel , on her election victory . Buhari felicitated with Merkel in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity , Mr. Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Monday . He also congratulated Merkel’ s party for offering quality leadership to the European nation since the past two years, describing the victory as another opportunity to sustain the legacy of good work. The president recalled his interactions with Merkel over the years, especially at the G8 meeting in 2015 and during his visit to Germany in 2016 . Buhari said he came out after each of the meetings with a strong impression of Merkel as a leader committed to building stronger ties across the world The Nigerian leader wished the German chancellor a successful tenure. Merkel’ s conservative Christian Union (UDU/ CSU ) bloc scored 32 .9 percent of the votes cast at the election held on September 24 , to clinch a record fourth term in office. Political analysts say that Merkel ’s party now has to build an uneasy coalition with its nearest rival, the Social Democrats and its candidate , Martin Schulz, coming a distant second with 20 .8 percent of the votes. They argue, however, that Merkel ’s victory is clouded by the hard - right AfD party, winning its first seats in the German parliament . NAN

Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke, the Founder of
Christ for all Nations (CfaN), plans to return
one last time to Nigeria for his final African
Gospel Crusade in November 2017.
Another historic global attendance could be
inspired by the return of Bonnke to Africa.
According to the media release of the
evangelistic ministry, this upcoming farewell
crusade is perceived to break the CfaN's
record of 6 million attendees during the
Nigeria Millennium Crusade held in year 2000.
Many decision cards are also anticipated by
CfaN in response to Bonnke's farewell
message.
Passing The Burning Torch Conference for
leaders and church workers is one of the
awaited highlights of the crusade.
Bonnke believes that thousands of pastors and
evangelists from around the globe will be
inspired to evangelism, says CfaN.
John Darku, CfaN's African director says:
" This crusade will be like none we have seen
before. Currently we plan to recruit 500 000
counsellors, 200 000 intercessors, a choir of
over 23 000 and a security force of over 10
000. There is great excitement from all the
churches in the country, and we are expecting a
spectacular harvest of people coming to Christ."
Lead evangelist of CfaN and successor to
Bonnke, Daniel Kolenda says: " I'm thrilled to
join with Reinhard in this vision, and know that
the results of this crusade will be farther
reaching and of even greater consequence than
we can even imagine. "
Over 40 years ago, God has given Bonnke a
vision of a blood-washed Africa-a continent
washed in the blood of Jesus Christ-which
filled him with a burning commitment to win
the continent for Jesus, says CfaN.
More than 76 million event attendees
accepted Christ as Savior according to the
registered decision cards since 1987.
Bonnke, looking towards November, says: " The
Lord spoke to me, that I should go back for one
more crusade in Africa. I want not only to see a
gigantic harvest of souls, but to pass my
burning torch to this generation. Recently, I
travelled to Lagos, Nigeria to meet with the
spiritual leadership there and they gave their
unanimous support. I believe God is going to do
something I have never seen before. "
