A Call to action: The Youths Coalition for Education in Nigeria marked the International Day of the Girl Child with a call to action, emphasizing the critical importance of safeguarding and advancing the education of young girls. In light of the significant challenges they face, the Coalition urged the Nigerian government to take a genuine and proactive approach in prioritizing the education of the girl child. This focus is not only vital for their personal development but also crucial in protecting them from societal dangers, including the rising incidents of early and unintended pregnancies among girls under the age of 16. Additionally, the Secretary-General, Engr. Nurudeen Yahaya, has called on the Ministry of Women Affairs to initiate a targeted orientation campaign, particularly in the northern regions of Nigeria. This campaign, he emphasized, should focus on educating girls about their fundamental rights, thereby strengthening the fight against forced early marriages and the prevalent issue of sexual abuse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXv6hf62kfc?si=4p5IAEJplYHEdx6z I'm very happy that I apologised publicly to Yahaya Bello for joining the bandwagon of attacks on him. Now, I've been vindicated. The action of EFCC on Wednesday has shown clearly that this is persecution and not fight against corruption. They've justified that Yahaya Bello's life is not safe with them. Many Nigerians are now saying that there is something underneath apart from these allegations of financial crime - *Comrade Daniel Atayi, Rights Activist.* |

In a heartfelt display of gratitude, a group of newly graduated medical doctors have publicly acknowledged former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for his role in supporting their medical education through a full scholarship. The medical professionals, who were part of the pioneer group transferred from Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) to various universities across Nigeria after the loss of accreditation at their initial institution before the emergence of Yahaya Bello, expressed their appreciation for the former governor’s intervention. The graduates, transferred to Ebonyi State University, Kaduna State University, and Usman Danfodio University Sokoto, highlighted the critical support they received from Governor Bello and the Kogi State Government. This included covering all transfer and tuition fees, ensuring they could complete their medical training without financial burden. In a public letter addressed to the former governor, the students stated, “when we faced the unfortunate challenge of losing accreditation at our former institution, your divine emergence as Governor, swift intervention and the decision to transfer us to other medical schools were not just acts of leadership but of compassion and commitment to the future of Kogi State's healthcare sector. The efforts of your administration in ensuring that we were successfully transferred to institutions where we could complete our medical training is a testament to your dedication to education and the well-being of your citizens”. One of the graduates, Dr. Omeiza Abdulmaleek Usman, shared his gratitude, acknowledging the former governor's unwavering commitment to their education. He also extended his appreciation to the Kogi State Government, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, Dr Mrs Folashade Ayoade Arike, the former Vice Chancellors Prof Hassan Isah and Prof Muhammed Abdulkadir Sanni, Prof Mariat Tenushe, the former provost of the medical college Prof Margaret Araoye, Prof Akogu Simon, Prof Edino, late Dr Emmanuel Busayo Agbana, Dr Omotosho and other management staff of PAAU for their efforts in facilitating the transfer process. “Our success was made possible by the support of former Governor Yahaya Bello, who generously provided scholarships and covered our tuition and transfer fees. Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho’s legacy, which began long before his time in the Senate, reflects a consistent and deep commitment to human development, economic empowerment, and the overall welfare of his people. His career in the private sector, particularly in banking, served as a foundation for the impactful work he continues to do as a public servant. Historically, Echocho’s name has been closely associated with opportunity, development and progress. Before he entered politics, he had already distinguished himself as a person who used his position to create jobs and uplift the people of Kogi East, West, and Central. This period in his life highlights a key point about Echocho’s leadership: his dedication to service transcends his official titles. Even when he didn’t hold a political office, he worked tirelessly to support his community, particularly through job creation. The banking sector, where Echocho built his career, is often seen as one of the most competitive and structured environments. It’s a world driven by profit margins, risk management, and stringent regulations, which makes the opportunities to influence human development even more limited. However, Echocho leveraged his position and influence to lobby for opportunities, ensuring that the people from his home state benefitted from the networks and resources available to him. His ability to navigate the corporate world to the advantage of his people across the state and Nigeria is an indicator of his exceptional ability to lead and serve. Echocho’s work in the private sector, where job creation is typically more constrained, stands out because of how he made it a priority to help his people. While most would focus solely on climbing the corporate ladder, Echocho made human development a key part of his mission, ensuring that as he rose through the ranks, he brought others with him. This effort resulted in countless people from Kogi State receiving jobs and other opportunities, allowing them to improve their own lives and the lives of their families. It’s important to emphasize that the opportunities Echocho created in the banking sector were not just for a select few. He ensured that people from all parts of Kogi State—East, West, and Central—benefitted from the positions and connections he fostered. This inclusive approach speaks to his belief in lifting the entire state, not just focusing on one part of his constituency. Now that he’s a senator, Echocho’s capacity to create jobs and empower people has significantly expanded. "if a man can give jobs while in a private sector, talk more of now that he's a senator." With the resources, influence, and authority that come with being a senator, Echocho is able to amplify the work he started in the private sector. His time in the Senate has allowed him to facilitate job opportunities in several federal and Kogi agencies, benefiting even more people than he could in his earlier career. Echocho’s leadership style is particularly notable for its quiet effectiveness. He doesn’t seek out the limelight or public recognition for the work he does—he simply gets the job done. Whether it’s facilitating jobs in the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), or the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Echocho ensures that his people receive meaningful employment opportunities without making a spectacle of it. He has shown time and time again that it’s not about being seen doing the work, but about the impact that work has on people’s lives. The comparison between Echocho and Senator Natasha, is often made without fully understanding the depth of Echocho’s contributions over time. While Natasha’s efforts, such as facilitating a few job placements in private organizations like Air Peace, are commendable, Echocho’s long-standing record of job creation and empowerment spans a much wider scale. His influence reaches federal agencies, which offer more stable and long-term career opportunities compared to positions in private companies. This kind of job facilitation has a more profound and lasting effect on the beneficiaries’ lives, as these positions typically come with career growth opportunities, pensions, and other benefits that private sector jobs may not always offer. It’s important to engage in constructive criticism, but comparisons should be made with an objective understanding of the full scope of each leader’s work. Echocho’s contributions should not be minimized or dismissed because they are less visible to the public. His impact goes far beyond what is seen on social media or in the news. His ability to provide jobs for his constituents, even before becoming a senator, and continuing to do so now, sets him apart as a leader who has always been committed to the progress of his people. Echocho’s leadership can be seen as an embodiment of servant leadership. He consistently focuses on the needs of his people rather than seeking personal accolades or public attention. His willingness to work behind the scenes to ensure his constituents are taken care of, without constantly seeking recognition, reflects a deep level of humility and dedication to the well-being of his community. This kind of leadership, while often overshadowed by more media-savvy figures, is what truly builds long-term progress and development. His ability to facilitate jobs, lobby for opportunities, and provide for his constituents both in and out of public office, sets him apart from other leaders. The breadth of his work, particularly in human development, speaks to his capacity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives—something that can’t be easily compared or reduced to surface-level metrics like the number of media appearances or high-profile events. Conclusively, Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho’s legacy of service and human development goes far beyond his current role as a senator. His work in the private sector, where opportunities were more limited, laid the groundwork for the large-scale empowerment he continues to provide today. The comparisons with Natasha may be inevitable, but it’s essential to recognize that Echocho’s contributions are deeply rooted in his long-standing commitment to the welfare of his people. His leadership style—focused on impact rather than optics—places him in a league of his own, making him a truly exceptional figure in Kogi State’s development trajectory. Comr. Peter Ugbedeojo Nelson, PhD.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie0joVa_1T8?feature=shared Activist apologises to Yahaya Bello for joining bandwagon of attacks against him, says 'I was fooled' A human rights activist, Comrade Daniel Atayi, has apologised to former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, for joining the bandwagon of social media attacks on his person, following "yet to be established" allegations against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Apologising for his previous attacks on the former governor, the activist said he regretted taking what the EFCC put out against ex-Gov Bello for the final verdict on his personality when no court had convicted him, adding that his independent investigations revealed otherwise. Atayi, in a video clip that has now gone viral, submitted that his independent investigation revealed that the former governor was just a victim of political witch-hunt and persecution. The activist faulted the fight against corruption in the country, describing it as being selective against political figures without godfathers or without specific political alignments. He accused the EFCC of looking away from many former governors who had been accused of corruption but making Yahaya Bello's case a big issue even at the time he was being protected by the law. He said, "If you ask me whether we are fighting corruption at all in the country, I will say no. I also want to ask you, are we fighting corruption in this country? No! Fight against corruption, especially from the bodies, they are mainly selective fight. It is like a situation where a son of nobody cannot be shielded by the law while a son of somebody who has political godfather and who belongs to a political juggernaut or affiliated to a political party, would go free even if such person commits crime. "What are we talking about? It is glaring. Present activities show... the fight is getting worse and much more selective. Worst of it is that they are publishing things on social media because they believe they are credibly fighting corruption. And some of us foolishly join them, thinking they are performing creditably well. "Just a case study of the Kogi State and a lot of governors of recent. They abound, they are all good examples for us to know the true fight against corruption and the political scheme against corruption. "Look at what happened between Yahaya Bello, a former Kogi State Governor and the EFCC, without private investigation or independent investigation, you will believe what the EFCC is saying, like I believed too. I believed and even assaulted him that this is why they don't give power to youth, to young people to lead; that look at how a young man would just come and abuse power and corruptly embezzle funds like that. "When I traveled of recent to Lokoja for a wedding; I was made to look like a fool for believing the social media in the first instance without prior or independent investigation. I was at a wedding at Lokoja and I decided to make some findings so that I would indict the man the more and unleash more articles against Yahaya Bello, but alas, I was disappointed because almost everybody was praising him from different ethnic groups. Just a few dissenting voices from about 20 to 25 persons that I asked one on one. About 20 gave credible testimonies in his favour, citing the infrastructural development the man has done, social amenities, and even security wise, how he stood his ground to defend the state. "Only a few persons, and of course, not everybody will support you but the percentage is what we are looking at. We actually discovered that Yahaya Bello's case is a case of the wicked and skemish system that we run in this country where if you have no godfather, then the justice will not shield you, you will not get justice." "But if you have a political godfather and you affiliate yourself... Just like what we are seeing in Benue State now, former governor of Benue State, a lot of them, millions of them that the EFCC is turning their eyes away from. The present APC National Chairman, what is that his name? Ganduje, who was a former governor of Kano State. That one flagrantly disobeyed court order, no invitation has he even attended to, running with impunity and running away from probe, even getting court injunction against EFCC's probe, yet, the court did grant him. But look at the EFCC, it does not even know what to do to bring him to book. But look at Yahaya Bello, Yahaya Bello does not belong, he has no godfather and he has no political big background like them. He is like a son of nobody that rose to power from somewhere and then became governor, so, they have to witch-hunt him," he added. Tendering his apology to Bello and calling on media practitioners and Nigerians at large to do due diligence in investigating issues before believing in stories put forward by opposition against personalities, Atayi stated, "I want to apologise to Yahaya Bello and the people of Kogi for initially being fooled to unleash attacks on the man and slander him on social media. Yahaya Bello is just a victim of circumstances and political scheme of this country that is making the fight against corruption fruitless, because it is selective." |

A Public Affairs Analyst Mr. Obaje Simon has uncovered a nefarious plan by the Kogi State Social Democratic Party (SDP) aimed at creating a false conflict between former Kogi State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to Mr. Obaje, the SDP in Kogi State is orchestrating protests in Kogi State designed to falsely implicate Bello as the instigator. This strategy, he described, is a wicked and cunning maneuver intended to drive a wedge between President Tinubu and the former Governor of Kogi State Alhaji Yahaya Bello. Mr. Obaje, in a statement made available to the media in Lokoja on Tuesday, revealed that the SDP's scheme involves organizing protests and making it appear as though Yahaya Bello is behind them. He criticized this tactic as not only malicious but also revealing the SDP's own childishness and desperation. "The SDP's move is so transparently duplicitous that they have inadvertently exposed themselves by publicizing their own strategy," Mr. Obaje remarked. Highlighting Yahaya Bello's political loyalty, Mr. Obaje emphasized that Bello has remained a steadfast supporter of President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC). This loyalty, he noted, was a critical factor in the overwhelming victory that Tinubu achieved in Kogi State during the last presidential election. The SDP's allegations, outlined by Isaiah Davies Ijele, Director of New Media and Spokesperson for the Muri/Sam Campaign Council, claimed that Bello and his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, were planning to incite chaos and attribute these actions to Muritala Yakubu Ajaka of the SDP. However, Mr. Obaje further disclosed that reliable sources have informed stakeholders that SDP have arranged T-shirts, caps, and other protest materials to cause chaos and disrupt the peace enjoyed in Kogi State, dismissing their claims as baseless. According to him, the SDP's plans to stage protests were not only malicious but also self-defeating, as the party inadvertently revealed its own duplicity. "Yahaya Bello has been a loyal party man, dedicated to the success of President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC). His unwavering support was a significant factor in delivering an overwhelming victory for Tinubu in the last presidential election in Kogi State," Obaje said. Mr. Obaje further criticized the SDP's claims of upholding principles of lawfulness and non-violence as hypocritical, given their exposed plans to incite disorder. "The SDP's statement is nothing but a smear campaign designed to undermine the integrity and unity of our state and nation," he added. He called on the public to disregard the SDP's false statements and urged the government and relevant authorities to investigate the SDP's actions. He emphasized Yahaya Bello's commitment to the rule of law, peaceful coexistence, and the continued progress of Kogi State and Nigeria, citing Bello's exemplary record as governor. Additionally, Mr. Obaje pointed out that any right-thinking member of the public would recognize that Kogi State has no reason to join in the protest, given Governor Ododo's proactive measures to cushion the economic impact on the people. He noted that local government workers, pensioners, and state employees are not owed any salaries, with payments being made promptly. Moreover, the governor has implemented several palliative measures and welfare schemes to support the people of Kogi State. Obaje Pleased with Nigerians to be patient with President Tinubu, as the period of hardship will be over soon, noting that President Tinubu is running round the clock to ensure Nigeria is great again.

EFCC is a joke. APC should not protect Ganduje. The party might go down with him. |
ALLEGED FRAUD: CSOs RAISE ALARM AS GANDUJE SHUNS COURT REPEATEDLY Over 100 Civil Society Organizations under the umbrella of Committee Against Oppression and Persecution, COMAP, have frowned at what they described as "the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's penchant for selective persecution of persons perceived to be in the bad books of certain political interests in the country." They decried a situation where a certain set of people close to the current administration would be treated as untouchables even with already established fraud allegations running into billions of naira, while the EFCC unfairly treats those perceived to be in the bad books of these people by levelling unfair allegations and using the instrumentality of Federal power to turn the tide of the courts against them with impunity. The activists made specific reference to the ongoing court case against a former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, whom they said had been indicted in an alleged bribery and multi-billion naira fraud scandal, and whom they claimed the EFCC had been allegedly shielding from prosecution. They said the EFCC had, despite valid petitions of corruption against the former Kano Governor and reported request by the Kano government for a report on previous investigations the Commission had carried out on him, refused to look his way. According to them, the Chairman of the Kano state Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCCAC), Muhuyi Magaji, also alleged that the agency had traced N51.3 billion allegedly diverted by Ganduje. In a press statement issued by the CSOs, they observed that while they recognised the dangers that corruption in public and private spaces posed for Nigeria, a law enforcement agency must not jettison the concept of justice in the service of political aggrandizement. According to them, Ganduje has not only shunned the court and arraignment about five times in the last few months, in his alleged corruption case at the Kano High Court, but has also seriously disrespected the courts and the Nigerian legal system by not even dignifying the courts with representation by Counsels. COMAP, in the statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Kure; and Secretary, Barr. Udoji Franklin, said, "The Kano High Court was to arraign the former Kano Governor, Umaru Ganduje and his wife on April 17, 2024, over allegations of bribery and misappropriation of funds by the state government. Neither he nor his wife went to court. They also disrespected the court so much that they didn't send any Counsel. "Matter was adjourned to 29th April but was stalled again. No representation, no appearance. Ganduje was not present. The case was again adjourned to May 16, and on that day, arraignment was rescheduled to June 5. Still, the former governor, who we are sure no longer as immunity and is not above the laws of Nigeria by virtue of being the Chairman of the ruling party, did not show up. No representation still. The last arraignment was supposed to be July 11. "At the resumed proceedings on July 11, Ganduje and his co-defendants were again absent. The judge declined a prayer by the prosecution counsel for a warrant of arrest but ruled that the defendants could be tried in absentia. Remember, this is also a criminal case like the one the EFCC is celebrating everyday on another former two-term governor." The CSOs called on President Bola Tinubu to save the image of corruption war in Nigeria and stop the EFCC from further deceiving Nigerians by unfairly castigating law abiding citizens, intimidating people perceived to have no godfathers and allowing established criminals to roam the streets with audacity at the expense of the country's image. "We are in full support of Mr. President to turn this country around but he must be mindful of those plotting to terminate his rule after four years with unpopular actions. They have formed themselves into a cabal and will be the first set of people to betray him," COMAP claimed. The Coalition recalled that, shortly after Kano State repealed its chieftaincy laws and reinstated a previously dethroned emir, believed to be close to former Governor Rabiu Kwakwanso, the EFCC, expectedly, immediately invited Kwankwaso officially, but could not follow up with an arrest when the latter obtained a restraining order preventing his arrest by the agency or others. "In Yahaya Bello's case, EFCC shunned the laws of the system, treated him like a coup plotter without any official invitation and despite holding a valid restraining order against such, and the Commission thinks it has succeeded in turning Nigerians against him with daily misleading propaganda on their social media handles. Those who are not beclouded by politics and hate know this is deceit and not corruption fight," it stated. According to COMAP, Ganduje is not different from the former Governor of Kogi State, as they were both two-term governors. "Aside from Ganduje, there are many pending cases that the antigraft agency has tactically abandoned. We are aware that the N70bn money laundering allegation against Bello Matawalle, former Governor of Nasarawa State, is still pending though he has a restraining order against arrest. "If the EFCC cannot engage in a just fight against corruption, starting from within its ranks, they should stop molesting vulnerable political figures. It is high time we saddled people with the real responsibilities of tackling corruption in Nigeria and not executing dangerous political survival strategies for paymasters," COMAP stated. https://dailytrust.com/group-accuses-efcc-of-molesting-vulnerable-politicians/

EFCC’s Unpreparedness Forces Court to Adjourn Former Governor Yahaya Bello's Case Until June 27 In a significant legal development, the Federal High Court has adjourned the case involving the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, until June 27, following a request by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This decision came after the EFCC, represented by their lawyer, AbdulWahab (SAN), indicated that they were not prepared to proceed with the case on the scheduled date. Today 13th June, 2024, scheduled for the court hearing, AbdulWahab (SAN), the EFCC's legal representative, approached the counsel representing Yahaya Bello with a request for adjournment. Citing reasons for their unpreparedness, the EFCC sought additional time to ensure they could adequately present their case. Despite the request for an adjournment, sources close to Yahaya Bello indicated that he was ready and willing to appear in court as scheduled. This readiness to attend the court hearing reflects Bello's intention to address the allegations head-on. His preparedness to appear underscores a commitment to engage with the legal process, regardless of the EFCC's readiness. The court, taking into account the agreement between both legal teams, granted the adjournment and rescheduled the case for June 27.
