Politics / Niger Mass Wedding: Women Affairs Ministry Advocates For Education, Empowerment by danladi02: 8:17pm On May 17
The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has disclosed robust plans to give a new lease of life to the 100 female orphans who were earlier slated to be married off in mass wedding scheduled for 24th May, 2024 at Mairiga Local Government Area under the sponsorship of the Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly,Rt Hon Abdulmalik Sarkindaji.

Speaking during a media brief in Abuja, the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs, Barr Uju Kennedy Ohanenye stated that “the Ministry had earlier secured a Minna High Court injunction on the proposed wedding but with the intervention of the Etsu Nupe, HRH Alh Yahaya Abubakar visit of the Emir of Kotangora, HRH Alh Mohammed Muazu and the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, we are seeking alternate ways of resolving the issue” she said.

In the words of the Minister “our primary aim is to guarantee the welfare and interests of the girls which forms part of the Ministry’s mandate and that was why I directed the relevant department in the Ministry to activate the process for a court injunction which we got yesterday to restrain the organizers of the proposed wedding from proceeding with it till we carry out due diligence and profiling on the girls to ascertain their ages and other relevant details”

Continuing, Barr Uju stated that she was delighted to receive the Emir of Kotangora and Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly in her office to seek who urged her to consider alternate ways of resolution. During the visit, the Emir stated that he has suspended the proposed wedding and pledged his emirate’s willingness to partner with the Ministry in any possible way to provide a new lease of life for the girls.

In the same vein, the Speaker said that “I was acting in good faith because the traditional rulers within my community approached me and sought for my assistance towards the wedding ceremony and I obliged them with good intent but with the intervention of the Minister, I am here to seek ways of resolution and for us to partner towards giving the girls a new lease of life”

Speaking further, the Minister opined that part of the arrangement include a meeting with the girls for proper profiling to work towards sending them to school, provision of digital skill acquisition training, onboarding the girls on the Ministry’s E-market portal and provision of sustainable empowerment for the girls because according to her “ our joint efforts will be geared ensuring the welfare of the girls but the Court injunction still subsists till we resolve all grey areas” the Minister added.

Politics / We Are Committed To Our Party, Kogi East APC Stakeholders Assure Leadership by danladi02: 6:05am On May 17
Just a few days after celebrating his first 100 days in office, stakeholders from Kogi East of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed unwavering support for Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo, reiterating their commitment to the party.

Known as the APC Critical Stakeholders, this group from the eastern part of Kogi, the Confluence state, emphasized that the APC remains vibrant in Igala land.

During a media briefing in Abuja with selected journalists, the group highlighted the strong presence of the APC in the eastern senatorial zone, covering nine local government areas. They pledged to maintain the party's influence and voice throughout the region.

"APC is the party we call our own, and we pledge our absolute loyalty to its leadership under His Excellency, Alhaji Usman Ododo," the group declared.

The group consists of the former minister of state for Labour, Prof Stephen Hussein ,General Patrick Akpa (RtD), former senator Dangana, Hon. Bala Zekeri and Hon Moses Abdullahi, has its media chat anchored by Prof Isah Dan.

‘Prof’ Dan Isah, speaking at the event, stressed the importance of massive grassroots engagement to bolster the party's membership in the eastern part of the state.

"We shall continue to engage with our members at the grassroots level, particularly in the Igala-speaking areas, to expand our membership through strategic sensitization, enlightenment, and advocacy," he explained.

“As critical stakeholders, it is necessary to come together to adopt what I described as an 'operational political victory module' so that we can come out victorious in subsequent and future elections.”

"In achieving what is before us and to consolidate our party on ground, we need an interface with Gov. Ododo for possible directive and feedback.”

Professor Stephen Hussein, former state Minister of Labour, assessed Governor Ododo’s administration in terms of labor welfare and service improvement. He commended the governor for his prompt and full payment of salaries.

"Worker's welfare is crucial for a productive workforce, and I am pleased that Governor Ododo has maintained a commendable record of prompt salary payment and for not owing workers’ salaries so far."

Former Senator Emmanuel Ocheja also discussed the party's prospects for future elections, especially given the current stiff opposition. He praised Governor Ododo's inclusive approach, reaching out even to those outside the APC.

"Governor Ododo has been proactive and inclusive in his governance, which bodes well for our party's future," he remarked.

“Ododo has begun his stewardship on a very good footing.”

"He has started visiting top political stakeholders across the different parties in the state, like the former governor Ibrahim Idris and former governor Idris Wada among others.

"He is bringing people together and reconciling even the warring factions in Kogi and we welcome and encourage him to keep on with what he has started.

"If he continues with what he is doing now, there will not be any other party in Kogi but APC," he said.

Also speaking, Hon Bala Zakari, a stakeholder blamed the depletion of the membership of the party on the crises that came with the victory of the party at the Nov. 16 2023 governorship election in the state.

"There are a lot of defections from the party after the election.

"So, we are coming together to help our party; to help our government and remobilise, sensitize, and talk to our people.”

"This is so that those who defected from the party will come back and for those who were not our members before to join us. This is because APC is a progressive democratic party," he said.

General Patrick Akpa, a retired military general, commented on the state’s security under Governor Ododo's leadership.

"Security challenges are not unique to Kogi State; they are nationwide. However, I am grateful for how the governor and his team have managed security issues, including making strategic visits to areas prone to security threats and immediate rescue of the recently adopted students," he said.

Honorable Moses Abdullahi proposed innovative strategies to attract more members to the party, emphasizing the importance of genuine consultation and proper realignment.

"Many of those currently advocating for opposition parties were once part of us. They use catchy slogans as a deceptive tactic to sway our people.

“However, we believe many are merely on a temporary leave from our party and will soon return to the fold," he asserted, highlighting the transient nature of political allegiances.”

The group promised to continue working towards the success of the party under the leadership of governor Ahmed Ododo and the leadership of the party at national level.

Politics / Kogi East APC Stakeholders Pass Vote of Confidence on Ododo by danladi02: 9:52pm On May 16
The Kogi East All Progressive Congress (APC) stakeholders, have passed a Vote of Confidence on Gov. Ahmed Ododo of Kogi, appealing for an audience with him toward strengthening the party.

The stakeholders stated this at a media chat with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, saying that the interface was to provide feedback and seek for direction on ways forward.

This, according to them, is critical toward strengthening the party to continue its hold as the ruling party in the state.

Mr Isah Daniel, the pioneer state Vice- chairman of the party, however, expressed concern over the depletion of party members, particularly in Kogi East due to the activities of the opposition.

He stressed the need for a massive grassroots membership drive to swell the membership fold of the party.

"As critical stakeholders, it is necessary to come together to adopt what I described as an 'operational political victory module' so that we can come out victorious in subsequent and future elections.

"In achieving what is before us and to consolidate our party on ground, we need an interface with Gov. Ododo for possible directive and feedback.

"We will be doing this by consulting stakeholders at all levels for their contribution for the party to remain a winning party in the state," he said.

Also speaking, Mr Bala Zakari, a stakeholder blamed the depletion of the membership of the party on the crises that came with the victory of the party at the Nov. 16 2023 governorship election in the state.

"There are a lot of defections from the party after the election.

"So, we are coming together to help our party; to help our government and remobilise, sensitise, and talk to our people.

"This is so that those who defected from the party will come back and for those who were not our members before to join us. This is because APC is a progressive democratic party," he said.

Also, Sen. Emmanuel Ocheja, said that in spite of the membership challenge facing the party, Ododo has had performed beyond expectations.

Ocheja, who represented Kogi East at the Senate between 2011 and 2015, commended the governor for reaching out to stakeholders across different parties to come together to develop the state.

"Ododo has begun his stewardship on a very good footing.

Another stakeholder, retired Major-General Patrick Akpa, lauded the governor for addressing insecurity, in spite of sharing boundaries with 10 states.

Akpa described security as simply 'safety and freedom from danger', and commended the governor for establishing Forward Operational Based to make residents feel safe.

He also lauded the governor for supporting the state vigilance group with operational vehicles and motorcycles.

He appealed to the governor to extend the same gesture to the Kogo East Neighbourhood Watch, established at district level as a self-help approach to tackle insecurity.

On his part, a former Minister of State for Labour, Prof. Stephen Ocheni, said that Ododo was doing very well in addressing workers and pensioners welfare and urged him to continue.

Another stakeholder, Mr Moses Abdullahi, assured of the continued support of the party's stakeholders in Kogi East for the success of the party. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

Politics / Women Affairs Ministry Moves Against Mass Marriage Of 100 Orphan Girls In Niger by danladi02: 4:55pm On May 14
FEDERAL MINISTRY OF WOMEN AFFAIRS, ABUJA

PRESS RELEASE

WOMEN AFFAIRS MINISTRY MOVES AGAINST MASS MARRIAGE OF 100 ORPHAN GIRLS IN NIGER

... _advocates for their education and empowerment_

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has said that the proposed plan by the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, to organise a mass marriage for the 100 female orphans in the State on May 24, should be investigated so as to ascertain their ages, consent as well as preparedness for the union.

The Honourable Minister, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye made the disclosure Monday, during a Press Briefing held in her office in Abuja, in reaction to the recently announced plans by the Speaker, to marry off the orphans girls who lost their parents during the banditry attacks in Mariga Local Government Area of the State, as part of his constituency projects

While acknowledging the good gesture of the Speaker aimed at alleviating the
suffering of the impoverished by pledging to pay the dowries of the bridegroom and in the procurement of the materials for the mass marriage, Barrister Kennedy-Ohanenye observed the need for the Speaker to consider the future of the children by finding out whether they prefer marriage to education and empowerment

The Minister opined that rather than the step being taken by him to fulfil his constituency projects, the Speaker should rather look towards developing them through education, skills acquisition and other forms of empowerment as this will not only be of immense benefit to them but would also contribute to the overall development of the society.

*These girls like their contemporaries in the country and globe, have great potentials and talents and as such need to be given the opportunity to develop and reach their optimum in life*, she said

According to her, by prioritizing education and empowerment over early marriage, the cycle of poverty and inequality that plaques orphans will be broken from their lives, thus enabling them to marry husbands of their choices and further reducing cases of gender based violence and out-of-school children which are usually the resultant effect of such unions.

Barr Uju also stated that in line with its mandate under the Child's Rights Act, the Ministry has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and sought a court injunction to put a hold on the sponsored marriage until further investigation is carried out with a view to ensuring that the welfare of the orphans are adequately covered.

The Minister further restated the Ministry's commitment to the protection of the lives of the women, children and the vulnerable in society, in line with its mandate.

Politics / 2022 Primaries, APC Chairmanship, Reshuffling- Buildup To Bello Vs EFCC by danladi02: 9:39am On May 10
By Seun Adeuyi

The strongman of Kogi politics and former Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello has been entangled in a messy battle with Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of graft and counter accusation of political witch-hunt.

In this piece, Daily Trust uncovers some persons and factors behind the face-off that is threatening the political foundation of the State and the nation at large.

THE ISSUES

Shortly after handing over power on the 27th January, 2024, former Governor, Yahaya Bello was alleged by the EFCC to have “stolen” over 80 billion naira in September 2015, four months before he officially took over power as Governor of the State.

Nigerians were shocked at the figures and timing bandied and Bello’s lawyers, sensing political witch-hunt, approached a State High Court to protect him from being arrested, victimized or harassed by the EFCC. The court granted an interim injunction, pending the determination of the substantive suit.
Miffed by the action of Bello against it, the agency swiftly filed an appeal before an Appeal Court to vacate the interim injunction.

While awaiting the determination of the appeal and given that the State High Court had granted the prayers of Bello in its ruling on the substantive suit, the agency decided to take laws into its hands by moving to arrest the former Governor in his Abuja home. While lawyers have been at loggerheads as to the propriety or otherwise of the action, the agency decided to withdraw its suit before the Appeal Court and went ahead to amend the charges against the former Governor by claiming the 80 billion naira stolen was done in February 2016, less than three weeks into his first term in office.

Many lawyers, including Senior Advocates of Nigeria are bewildered as to how the anti-graft agency will successfully prosecute a case that is standing on one leg ab-initio.

In the midst of the confusion are dotted claims that the incumbent Governor, a protege of Bello was responsible for “sneaking” the former Governor out of his Wuse residence. The agency threatened to deal with persons who obstruct its operations.

It is clear that there are more questions than answers surrounding the EFCC-Bello debacle. So what are the factors behind the travail of the man reputed to be the White Lion?

REFUSAL TO STEP DOWN AT THE APC PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY OF 2022

In the build up to the APC Presidential Primary in 2022, the then Governor Yahaya Bello was one of the major gladiators. He went into the contest with the face of the Nigerian youth and his campaign gathered undeniable momentum before the political dynamics favoured power rotation to the South.
Despite joining the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (ABAT) train after the primary and even aligning with some governors to repudiate the political machinations of the CBN policies against the possible emergence of the incumbent President, it is believed that some elements around the President felt he didn’t “bow” on time, hence the need to “punish” him, using the EFCC.
The travails of Bello was also supported by a powerful official around the President who is eyeing the Presidency in 2031.
The present brickbats between Bello and the EFCC is believed to be fueled by politics.

SUSPICIONS THAT BELLO IS BEING PREPARED FOR THE POSITION OF APC CHAIRMAN

Shortly before the expiration of his tenure, there were hush voices by some elements within the party to drag the former Governor into the politics of the national chairmanship of the party. It is believed that the slot of the Chairmanship of the party was that of the North Central and given his track records, he will be a strong force to drive the party to victory in 2027.
But before Bello could even be approached with the proposal, the incumbent National Chairman had moved swiftly to join forces with anti-Bello elements to whittle down the latter’s political influence and portray him as a corrupt politician incapable of leading the party. Sources close to Bello told our correspondent that the former Governor was never interested in becoming the national chairmanship of the party and the proposal was never discussed with him. However, he was already a victim of the intention of others.

CABINET RESHUFFLING

With the lackluster performance of some Ministers, there are palpable fears that cabinet reshuffling is imminent. Some of the Ministers who have not done well have decided to stave off possible threats from outside the cabinet by hounding them with EFCC harassment and mudslinging.
An undisclosed Minister is said to have infiltrated security forces to deploy them to stop anyone who is capable of being given his job. He is said to be part of the forces using the EFCC to harass Bello.

FIGHT FOR THE SOUL OF KOGI POLITICS

The emergence of Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo as Kogi State Governor is a big factor in the move against Bello. Those against Bello are determined not to allow him control Kogi politics in the build up to the 2031 poll.
Those forces, though in the ruling All Progressives Congress are working with some opposition elements in the State to demystify Bello. Part of the plan according to sources, was to manipulate the Election Petition Tribunal to remove Ododo and install their preferred candidate who is said to have assured the forces of support in 2027 and 2031.
The incumbent Kogi Central Senator, is said to be fighting the battle of her life to return to the Senate in 2027 and understands the fact that a free Bello will deliver all the seats to the ruling All Progressives Congress. Political pundits are also beaming their searchlights on how the same lawyers are representing both the EFCC and the Social Democratic Party.

CONCLUSION

While the controversy around the handling of the allegations against Bello by the EFCC persists, more Nigerians have said the rule of law must not be sacrificed on the altar of politics.

Yet some others have backed the anti-graft agency even though they frowned at the issue of media trial.

However the face-off goes, it is definitely a test of the sanctity of the Nigerian judicial system.

Politics / Youth Groups Move To Sokoto, Demand Tinubu's Intervention In Bello Vs EFCC Saga by danladi02: 11:42am On May 08
Northern youth groups have thanked Bar Jesutega Onokpasa for adding his voice in support of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The groups, notably the Northern Youth Movement for Good Governance and Democratic Values and the North Central Progressive Voice, joined forces in what they termed the "Northern Nigeria Solidarity Walk and World Press Conference,” converged in Sokoto on Wednesday meeting stakeholders as part of their northwide tour to voice their concerns over what they perceive as the unjust treatment of the former governor.

Their primary objective according to them is “to seek urgent intervention from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the ongoing saga between Alhaji Yahaya Bello and the EFCC,” while also expressing gratitude and admiration for Bar Jesutega Onokpasa's vocal stance against perceived injustices within the political sphere.

The coalition commenced their activities with a World Press Conference held at the NUJ Press Center in Sokoto, where they issued an open letter addressed to President Tinubu, outlining their grievances and urging swift action to resolve the impasse between Bello and the EFCC. Following the conference, representatives of the groups paid a visit to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, seeking his intervention as a revered figure capable of fostering peaceful resolutions.

Furthermore, copies of the open letter were delivered to the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, with a plea for his support in conveying their message to President Tinubu. The groups emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in addressing what they perceive as political persecution and urged stakeholders to uphold democratic principles.

During the press conference, Mall Shamsudeen Abubakar Sokoto, the spokesperson for the coalition, commended Bar Jesutega Onokpasa for his recent statements criticizing certain elements within the political landscape who allegedly undermine the contributions of stalwarts like Alhaji Yahaya Bello and former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai. Onokpasa's vocal condemnation of what he sees as undue political persecution resonated with the coalition, reflecting a broader sentiment within the Northern youth groups.
The coalition's actions underscored the power of grassroots movements in advocating for justice and democratic values. Their call for President Tinubu's intervention and the commendation of individuals like Bar Jesutega Onokpasa reflect a concerted effort to uphold fairness and transparency within Nigeria's political sphere.

As the coalition plans to continue their solidarity walks in other Northern states, their message reverberates across the nation, drawing attention to the need for ethical governance and the protection of individuals' rights within the Nigerian political landscape.

Politics / Chief Ameh Erico Speaks On Ododo's Alleged Obstruction Of Fgyb's Arrest by danladi02: 1:36am On May 05
A former Kogi State Governorship aspirant, Dr. Ameh Erico Joseph has spoken on the alleged obstruction of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC's) arrest of the former governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, by the incumbent governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo.

In this brief interview with Onoja Integrity in Lokoja on Saturday, the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and 2019 Guber Aspirant raised questions that suggest Ododo could not have taken Bello away with such heavy presence of the EFCC officers at the former governor's residence in Abuja on that fateful day, noting that the governor is a law abiding citizen and should be given the chance to perform optimally as the governor of Kogi.

*Interviewer:* Please, may we meet you?

**Answer:** My name is Chief Joseph Erico Ameh, PhD.

**Question:** Your Excellency, there have been accusations that Governor Ododo obstructed the arrest of his predecessor. Do you believe this was the correct action to take?

**Answer:** I am not here to simply affirm or deny such allegations straightforwardly. Let us consider the situation more deeply. Do you, from your heart of hearts, believe that Governor Ododo intentionally obstructed justice by concealing GYB within his convoy, despite the presence of an EFCC team prepared to make an arrest? Was GYB visibly present in Governor Ododo's convoy? If it is true that GYB was in the convoy, why did the EFCC not continue to follow the convoy to its destination to carry out the arrest? Who among you can definitively say they saw GYB face to face in Ododo's convoy? Once these questions are answered truthfully, we can discuss whether the actions taken were appropriate. As of now, there is no concrete proof that on that particular day Governor Ododo met with GYB or transported him to an undisclosed location. The narrative that Governor Ododo facilitated GYB's escape from arrest seems to be an attempt to tarnish his reputation without solid evidence. Governor Ododo is a law-abiding leader who is committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Kogi State. I encourage all to give him the benefit of the doubt; he will not disappoint us.

Politics / We And The Trials Of Brother Bello - Prefessor Anthony Kila by danladi02: 9:06pm On Apr 30
A big drama in town came to the general public’s attention thanks to the encounter on a road called Benghazi in Abuja, Nigeria. In case you missed it, what happened on the road called Benghazi was the failed attempt by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to take the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, away from his house into we guess custody. To do that, the operatives of the EFCC kitted in full military gear for the operations and laid siege to the home of the former governor. The reason they wanted to take him away was to answer questions on charges of corruption. The amount looted, we hear, is to the tune of 80 billion naira.

For many in the public, the first reaction, the instinctive reaction, was to chastise Yahaya Bello for refusing to go with the operatives of the EFCC when they came for him. Such thinking was that why should he, Yahaya Bello, feel that he is so above the law and not respect the call of the operatives of the EFCC?

To the naked eyes of many, the EFCC was, after all, the law and acting in the name of the law. Beyond instinct, it did not make sense for a former governor to refuse the invitation or be arrested by the EFCC; the history of Nigeria and chronicles of the EFCC abound with stories of governors, ministers, senators and other politicians and business people who have been “invited” or outrightly arrested by EFCC and then come back to continue with their lives.

Some are even in government, in positions of power in politics and some public office in one form or another. The standard practice is “invitation” or arrest, bail, and finding a way around in court. Why, then, should Akara turn bone when it became the turn of Brother Yahaya Bello?

The failed arrest on the road called Benghazi was not an isolated incident but rather the culmination of a series of events that had been unfolding for some time. However, these events largely went unnoticed by the public until this dramatic encounter. This raises the question: what other episodes have we, the public, missed?

The first episode that we missed was that the former governor had gone to the court of law to seek and indeed obtained an injunction that prohibits the EFCC (and presumably others) from arresting and harassing him. As an unrepentant advocate of the rule of law and common sense, I raised the question of why someone would go to court to say: “Please don’t let law enforcement officers arrest me or harass me”. “I don’t do that; who does that’, was my thinking—the answer I got made me appear naïve even to myself.

A very respected and senior jurist (he was a teacher of law when I was a student) made it clear to me by schooling me on the difference between a politically exposed person and the rest of us. It turned out that the law agrees that politically exposed people might have reasons to be victimised by competitors, disgruntled elements of society and enemies.

It turns out that the EFCC operatives went to the house of the former governor in violation of a court order. Whilst we, the people, did not know there was a court order, the men and women of the EFCC knew there was a court order restraining them from doing so, and yet they did so. The law is or should be our holiest book and altar in this land, “shall we continue in sin and that grace might abound? God forbid”.

Let us imagine that the EFCC boss of today is a righteous man with no blemish and full of good intentions who means well for the commonwealth and, therefore, moves for the greater good. Should we, thus, allow and then condone him when he operates outside the law? I think not. That will constitute or consolidate a terrible and dangerous precedent. What if after him comes another EFCC boss who is not so righteous and full of good intentions? What if the good man of today goes rouge or mad one day?

We, the people, especially those of us who believe in the supremacy of the law, must insist that everyone who acts in the name of the law must fully obey the law, every line, every comma of the law. It is only when those who act in the name of the law act in full respect of the law that the law can triumph; shortcuts or outright violations of the law debilitate the law. Any law agency or organ of the state that tries to make us believe that to uphold the law, one must violate the law is not acting diligently and efficiently, and that smacks of mischief or incompetence.

In the specific case of the trial of Brother Yahaya Bello, the diligent and efficient way to go is to go to the courts to seek and obtain a court order to challenge and overturn the injunction obtained by Yahaya Bello. There is no other way to put it; going to a place you have been asked not to go and to do what you have been asked not to do is wrong and debilitative of the law. In this case, the EFCC, by violating the court order, has given Yahaya Bello reasons to argue and present himself as a victim of persecution, not just a reckless or senseless fugitive.

It is worth mentioning here that the EFCC is an investigative agency, not a prosecuting organ; in court, lawyers (hired by the agency) prosecute cases against investigated people, and a judge will weigh all the charges brought against an investigated person, these will happen in a setting wherein both sides are given equal grounds to accuse and defend. Many might not know it, but one of the many things a judge will look at (and that defending lawyers certainly will bring up) is how compliant the investigators have been with the law in their operations.

The judge will carefully look at the process and operations to ensure that there is nothing personal and no trace of persecution on the way to delivering justice. Given what has happened and been said by the EFCC so far, how do you think the EFCC’s operations will look when the time for scrutiny comes up in court?

Politics / Women Empowerment: Federal Government Distributes 368 Items In 15 States by danladi02: 5:57pm On Apr 30
In line with renewed efforts to ensure improved entrepreneurship and sustainable empowerment of Nigerian women, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has distributed about 368 items in 15 states of the federation in the first phase of its initiative to scale up the socio-economic status of women and the vulnerable especially in the rural areas.

Making this disclosure during a press conference in Abuja today, the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs, Barr Uju Kennedy Ohanenye stated that the first phase of the distribution which is coming on the heels of recent launch of an E-Market portal for women, witnessed the distribution of Garri processing and frying machines, industrial sewing machines, industrial button hole holding machines, heavy industrial irons, Tapping machines, Steam pressing machines, Sewing machines for stretches and stitches, Cloth cutting machines, Fish smoking machines, 60,000 litres Fish rearing buckets and Rice Milling Machines.

“For the first phase, we have distributed these items to Anambra, Kano, Rivers, Imo, Lagos, Oyo, Katsina, Gombe, Kebbi, Adamawa, Ebonyi, Niger, Bayelsa, Benue and Jigawa states and have drawn out modalities for the next tranche of empowerment in other states and the idea is in fulfillment of my pronouncement in August last year on resumption of duty to change the narratives on empowerment of women in Nigeria” she said.

Speaking further, the Minister added “ it is obvious that our strategies towards improving the living condition of our women in the past has not yielded positive impact as most of our women especially in the rural areas are still in abject poverty. Our President is very emphatic about allowing the poor to breathe to provide a level ground for all Nigerians especially for women and the vulnerable because women and children are the major constituents of our population hence the need to place them on the front burner in the scheme of things”

“In our resolve to further encourage the women in their various business ventures, the Ministry is partnering with a financial institution that will provide 1,000 units of Point Of Sale (POS) machines per state for ease of doing business, we also have a private company which has concluded plans to provide free training for 300 ladies on skill acquisition across the 6 geo-political zones on computer solutions, codding and other internet skills which will come with free lap tops for them to start up their own business on completion of the program ” she also said.

She added that the Ministry resolved to introduce women to skill acquisition training programs on rice and fish farming, tailoring and other business ventures, “we had to partner with a Chinese firm in Abuja last year to train participants from 7 states on Rice farming and processing in addition to other training programs aimed at building the capacity of women on various business ventures. Part of the initiatives is to formally commission and hand over the distributed items to the Governors through the Commissioners for women Affairs of the benefiting states and also build stronger collaborations to scale up women empowerment in such states”

The Minister also stated that the national headquarters is working in collaboration with State Commissioners for Women Affairs and Council of Traditional Rulers to ensure transparency, proper coordination and implementation of on-going distribution of the empowerment items across the various states.

Politics / FGYB: Massive Crowd In Lafia As North Central Youths Protest Against EFCC by danladi02: 10:16am On Apr 30
In a bold display of unity and determination, Nigerian youths from the North Central region, operating under the banner of The North Central Progressive Voice, converged in Lafia, the capital of Nassarawa State, to voice their grievances against what they perceive as an abuse of the rule of law by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The group, which includes both youths and women representing various communities across the North Central states, called for immediate intervention from President Bola Tinubu concerning the recent actions of the EFCC towards former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and other individuals.

During a world press conference held on Tuesday, the 30th of April, 2024, at the Nassarawa State capital, the group's spokesperson, Bar. Blessing, passionately addressed the media, denouncing the EFCC's raid on Alhaji Yahaya Bello's residence in Abuja. Urging President Tinubu to rein in the EFCC, Bar. Blessing emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and preventing any potential national embarrassment stemming from the ongoing saga.

In addition to the press conference, The North Central Progressive Voice penned an open letter to President Tinubu, appealing for his swift intervention in the matter. The group highlighted the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the need for a resolution to prevent further escalation.

Taking proactive steps to ensure their message reaches the highest echelons of power, representatives of the group delivered the open letter to the Emir of Lafia and Chairman of the Nassarawa State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Highness Hon. Justice Sidi Bage 1. JSC (Rtd.), with the intention of forwarding it to President Bola Tinubu.

Undeterred by the challenges ahead, the group embarked on a solidarity walk through the major streets of Lafia, Nassarawa State, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to their cause. Their message echoed loudly as they insisted that they would not rest until President Tinubu intervenes, demanding that the EFCC adhere to the principles of the rule of law in the ongoing dispute with Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

As the nation watches closely, the actions of The North Central Progressive Voice serve as a reminder of the power of grassroots movements and the importance of safeguarding democratic principles in Nigeria.

Politics / The Order Granted By The Judge Not To Arrest Bello Stands’ - SAN Agbakoba by danladi02: 5:17pm On Apr 29
Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, a former NBA chairman and senior advocate in Nigeria, has claimed that the Kogi State High Court’s order, which forbade the arrest of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, is still in effect. He claimed that the EFCC had unlawfully asked for and been granted the subsequent order. He contended that the legitimacy of the legal system may be jeopardised by inconsistent court rulings in situations such as these.

A High Court in Lokoja on the 17th of April granted a two-hour judgment restraining the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC from arresting, detaining, and prosecuting Former Governor, Yahaya Bello. That same day, the EFCC obtained a warrant of arrest against Bello from a Federal High Court in Abuja.

SAN Olisa Agbakoba speaking against these conflicting court orders said in an interview with Channels TV, ”It may be true that an order that has a lifespan has expired. But it is not for us to determine that expiration, it is for the Judge to do that. The order granted by the Judge not to arrest the Ex-Governor stands. The only way to deal with that order is to go back to the judge and say that this is why I think the order should not have been granted.

I disagree with the argument that the court order has expired. I strongly believe that the second order that the EFCC obtained was wrongly applied for and wrongly granted. We have seen it in election cases, conflicting decisions were made. This has the effect of making us look dramatic as an institution. If a Judge grants an offer rightly or wrongly, you challenge it or you apply to set it aside. You cannot decide to say that you will not obey it.”

Politics / Bello's Media Office Accuse EFCC Of Being "Desperate To Convict Publicly" by danladi02: 1:58pm On Apr 27
In response to recent allegations of misappropriation of public funds by the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, his media office has released a statement "setting the records straight" regarding the upfront payment of school fees for his children.

During a press conference held on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, a legal practitioner, made statements alleging that Bello withdrew cash from the Kogi State Government Account to pay school fees through Bureau De Change operators. These allegations were vehemently denied by the former governor's media office, labeling them as unbecoming conduct.

The media office in a statement signed by the head of the media team, Ohiare Michael, made several points to address the allegations.

The statement reads in full, "On Tuesday, 23rd April 2024, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, in a conduct which we view as unbecoming of a Legal Practitioner, organised a press conference where he alleged (amongst other outrightly defamatory statements) that His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, withdrew cash from the Kogi State Government Account, sent same to Bureau De Change Operators and then used same to pay the school fees of his children in advance.

"According to Olukoyede, the payment was made just about the time the former Governor was to leave office. Since the said press conference, receipts of payments of the said fees bearing the names of His Excellency's Children and those of other family members, who separately paid their fees, have been flying all over the internet.
"While we reserve our rights to seek redress against the said defamatory statements, permit us to briefly state the following for the purpose of setting the records straight:

"1. His Excellency, Yahaya Bello's children have attended the American International School, Abuja well before he became Governor and he has paid fees for his children as and when due and without fail.

"2. His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello did not pay the sum of USD720,000 as alleged by the EFCC Chairman or USD840,000 as is being bandied about on the internet.

"3. The payment of the fees was not effected at about the time his Excellency was to leave office as claimed by Mr. Olukoyede but same commenced in 2021.
"Alhaji Yahaya Bello DID NOT pay the fees of his Children with monies from the Coffers of the Kogi State Government.

"4. When the EFCC approached the American International School Abuja (AISA) to illegally recover funds legitimately paid by Alhaji Yahaya Bello and other family members, a member of the family challenged the EFCC's unlawful acts to recover funds legitimately paid. The FCT High Court, in Suit No. FCT/HC/2574/2023 between: Mr. Ali Bello v. The Incorporated Trustees of American International School, Abuja, held that AISA could not lawfully and unilaterally refund to a third party, including the EFCC, fees paid by the parties to the suit. The Court subsequently mandated AISA to continue to provide the services it had been paid with respect to the fees. Bello, has nothing to hide with regard to the payment of advance fees for his children. This unending harassment andpersecution, even while in office, were among key reasons he sought to enforce his fundamental human rights.

"5. Now, let it be known that, contrary to misleading narratives by the EFCC, all the documents published online i.e. receipts and letters, that the EFCC has released online, in furtherance of its unrelenting persecution of the former Governor, are documents filed by lawyers in the suit instituted on behalf of Alhaji Yahaya Bello and others who paid fees for their wards under the Advance Fee Payment Agreement with AISA. Those documents, having been filed by his lawyers, are thus public documents, which shows that his Excellency, Yahaya From the foregoing, it is clear that no money belonging to Alhaji Yahaya Bello or his family members with regard to school fees has been recovered by the EFCC.

"6. We state that the payment of these fees and the legitimacy thereof is the subject matter of Charge No. FHC/CR/573/2022, filed by the EFCC since 15th December 2022 at the Federal High Court, Abuja. The Charge is pending and the Court has yet to make any finding or convicted anyone in respect of the said sum.

"7. It is imperative to remind Mr. Olukoyede, who is a Lawyer, that once parties have submitted a dispute to the Court, they are to shun all actions and statements that may prejudice the hearing of the matter or the mind of the Court.

"8. Since the matter is sub judice, we say no more, we await the EFCC's proof of the allegations in Court, which is the
only venue where the proof of these allegations matter.

"9. We thank Nigerians who have recognised the obvious desperation of the EFCC boss to convict the former Governor by all means in the Court of public opinion rather than in the law court, as personal vendetta, with the connivance of like minds, and not a fight against corruption.

"10.We implore others who might have been misled by their shenanigans not to be fooled by mischievous narratives but to follow the case through until justice is served.

"11. Finally, our Principal, Yahaya Bello, doesn't visit law enforcement agencies "through the backdoor. He has insisted on following due process in line with the rule of law. No amount of blackmail will intimidate him. Thank you."

Politics / Yahaya Bello: North Central Group Seeks Tinubu's Intervention Over EFCC Probe by danladi02: 7:45am On Apr 27
In an open letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the North Central Progressive Voice, a Pan-Nigerian sociocultural group, expressed deep concern over recent actions taken by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against former Governor of Kogi, Yahaya Bello.

The letter, signed by the group’s convener, Comrade Umar Gambo highlights the need for President Tinubu to intervene and prevent further escalation of the situation, which they fear could bring the administration to public odium.

The group in Minna the Niger State Capital Saturday 27/4/2024 at the NUJ Press Center Minna addressed a World Press Conference and Took A solidarity walk along the streets Of Minna before Submitting the Copy of the Open Letter to Former Military President General Ibrahim Babangida for onward Communication to President Tinubu.

The letter, dated April 27th, 2024, begins with a respectful greeting to President Tinubu and outlines the organisation’s dedication to upholding the independence of the judiciary and civil society.

It recounts the events of April 17th, 2024, when the EFCC conducted a raid on Yahaya Bello’s home, allegedly in connection with charges of money laundering.

The group expresses concern over the EFCC’s actions and potential violations of constitutional principles and the rule of law.

Drawing attention to a court order issued by the Lokoja High Court on February 9th, 2024, which prohibited the EFCC from arresting or prosecuting Yahaya Bello, the letter highlights the EFCC’s subsequent appeal and the pending motion for a stay of execution.

The group criticizes the EFCC’s decision to secure a warrant for Bello’s arrest from another court while the appeal was still pending, emphasising the importance of due process and respect for judicial authority.

Although EFCC have written to the Appellate Court on Wednesday, April 27, seeking the withdrawal of the Appeal on the Restraining order Granted Alhaji Yahaya Bello earlier by the Kogi State High Court in Lokoja, the group is disappointed and embarrassed by the former’s action.

Legal expert Frank Tietie, speaking in an interview with Arise News, criticized the EFCC’s handling of the case, stating that the commission did not conduct itself properly and urging Bello to exhaust all available remedies.

In similar reaction, Bar. Daniel Bwalla criticised the actions of the EFCC especially the press conference by the EFCC Boss which he described as a Media trial or subjudice.

Several legal experts have also condemned EFCC’s actions, stressing the importance of obeying court orders.

The letter calls upon President Tinubu to use his experience in navigating political challenges to address the EFCC’s unjust attempt to arrest Bello in defiance of a standing court order.

It urges President Tinubu to hold the EFCC accountable for its actions and prevent further violations of Bello’s civil rights, emphasising the importance of upholding due process even for law enforcement agencies.

In conclusion, the North Central Progressive Voice expresses gratitude to President Tinubu for his prompt attention to the matter and assures him of their utmost regards.

This open letter serves as a public appeal to President Tinubu to intervene and ensure that the EFCC respects the rule of law and upholds due process in its actions against former Governor Yahaya Bello.

Politics / Efcc, Media Trial And Its Inconsistencies by danladi02: 3:13pm On Apr 26
It is high time Nigerians begin to interrogate statements coming from EFCC with a view to know the veracity of such claims.

EFCC told the whole world that GYB mismanaged over 80bn in year 2016, but facts obtained from BudgetIT reveal that Kogi got only 31.98bn in 2016.

The fundamental question for interrogation now is that, how can a man be able to make away with 80bn when all h received as allocation that year was less than half of 80bn?

This doesn't in anyway support or go against anyone, but reveals simple fact to guide us to the truth.

Don't forget Otunba Gbenga Daniel was arraigned by EFCC for over 60bn fraud more than 10 years ago, as at now, EFCC have amended the charges and the alleged 60bn to about 200m.

Politics / Bello: Nwoke Friday Chijioke Criticizes EFCC Chairman, Olukoyede by danladi02: 12:26pm On Apr 25
Professor Nwoke Friday Chijioke, the former Vice President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, has spoken out against the press conference conducted by the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), particularly in relation to its discussion of Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State.

Speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, Prof. Chijioke criticized the EFCC's approach, denouncing it as an unfair trial and labelling it as a form of media trial.

He stressed the importance of discretion in such matters, emphasizing that institutions of justice, like the EFCC, should conduct investigations discreetly without involving the media.

His words: ''The EFCC chairman's press conference of yesterday was really uncalled for. That is unfair trial. All these challenges are because of what I would call a media trial.

''An institution of justice should be in a position, especially when you are the investigator, carry out a discrete investigation. You do not need to involve the media.

''For example, the EFCC's chairman interview yesterday was really, really uncalled for. It was uncalled for in the sense that you do not need to accord any privilege to Yahaya Bello.

''The law does not require the according or the giving of privileges to persons who are suspected of having committed an offense. That is one.

''Secondly, the law necessarily does not need, especially in situations of this nature. In corruption cases, you don't necessarily need to make an arrest. You don't need to bring into custody. Because more often than not, in corruption cases, they are determined by documentary evidence.

''If you make out a prima facie case and you have evidence to make out a prima facie case, why don't you file a case in court and serve the accused person? Why would you, in the first instance, perhaps advertise or publicize? Because that is, in the first instance, unfair hearing.''

Politics / Yahaya Bello To EFCC: I’m Not Afraid Of You, Just Obey Rule Of Law by danladi02: 10:51am On Apr 24
*EFCC LIED AGAIN

Our attention has been drawn to a publication/press statement with the above title, issued by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, 22nd April, 2024, and signed by Wilson Uwujaren, its Acting Director of Public Affairs.

In the said statement, which the Commission carefully circulated widely as usual, Mr. Uwujaren, who we have to believe is not a lawyer, continues the EFCC’s ongoing unconscionable lies against the former Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Yahaya Bello, CON, by labelling him as a fugitive from justice in order to disingenuously justify their established and willful pattern of defying lawful court orders.

Contrary to Mr. Uwujaren’s claims, official records and court documents relating to their hounding of Alhaji Yahaya Bello establish a clear timeline of events. These documents are endorsed with dates and times of filing and payments, which are endorsed on court processes – all of which testify to the true sequence of events.

For The Records, here is a summary of key events:

No Formal Invitation: The EFCC claims to have invited Alhaji Yahaya Bello immediately after his tenure ended on January 27th, 2024. We challenge the EFCC to produce a copy of this invitation, including the delivery date and the recipient’s name/endorsement. We are confident they cannot provide this simple evidence.

Preemptive Charge: Prior to any alleged invitation, the EFCC amended Charge No. FHC/ABJ/CR/550/22 on February 5th, 2023, to accuse Yahaya Bello of conspiring to convert over 80 Billion Naira of Kogi State funds in September 2015. This amendment listed Yahaya Bello as “still at large,” demonstrating a clear intention to arrest him.

*Impossible Accusations: The alleged timelines provided by the EFCC for its phantasmagorical allegations of crime against Yahaya Bello predates his Inauguration as Governor of Kogi State on January 27th, 2016.

The second charge even attempts to correct the initial blunder and says the crime was committed in February 2016, less than a month after he became Governor! The total Kogi State budget in 2016 was significantly less than the sum alleged in the charges.

Seeking Protection Under The Law: To protect his reputation and fundamental rights, Alhaji Yahaya Bello filed Fundamental Rights Enforcement action Suit No. HCL/68M/2024 with the High Court of Justice, Kogi State on February 8th, 2024. Court records, even from the EFCC, all substantiate this.

Court-Ordered Restraint: The High Court granted an order restraining the EFCC from inviting, arresting, or prosecuting Alhaji Yahaya Bello pending the determination of the Originating Motion. This order was served on the EFCC on February 12th, 2024.

EFCC’s Disregard for the Law: Despite the order, the EFCC, represented by Senior Advocates Rotimi Oyedepo and J.S Okutepa, filed Charge No. FHC/ABJ/CR/98/2024 against Yahaya Bello on March 6th, 2024, in violation of the order.

The EFCC’s ‘Ex Parte Warrant’ Is Another False Narrative: Mr. Uwujaren falsely implies that the EFCC sought a warrant of arrest only after the Kogi State High Court ruling on April 17th, 2024. This ruling was at about 2pm. Records will show that the motion was filed at 8:24 am on April 17th, prior to the ruling. And Nigerians would testify to the fact that, at that time, EFCC agents had already laid siege on his residence, attempting his arrest. These are clear occurrences that cannot be denied.

EFCC – A Litany of Violations: The EFCC failed to present the warrant at Yahaya Bello’s residence. The warrant itself is invalid, being obtained in defiance of a court order and based on misleading statements, as Alhaji Yahaya Bello is a defendant and not a fleeing suspect or a suspect, having been charged.

EFCC’s Assault on Citizens’ Rights: The judgment of the High Court of Justice, Kogi State, on April 17th, 2024, highlights the EFCC’s abuse of its statutory duties. We urge the public to denounce these unlawful transgressions until the EFCC undertakes a comprehensive reform of its practices.

In Conclusion: It is clear that the EFCC is engaged in a campaign of intimidation and harassment. Alhaji Yahaya Bello is not afraid of the EFCC. His demand is that the rule of law be respected.

Politics / Middle-belt Vanguard Urges President Tinubu To Curb Efcc's "Abuse Of Power" by danladi02: 6:47am On Apr 24
In an open letter addressed to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Middle-Belt Vanguard for Good Governance has raised concerns over the arbitrary actions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and called for intervention to safeguard democratic principles and uphold the rule of law.

The letter, signed by prominent members of the association including Dr. Istifanus Bwatpe, President/Convener, and Engr. Anebi David Adakole, Secretary, who also held a World Press Conference at *NUJ Press Center in Jos the Plateau State Capital* Wednesday, highlights a recent incident where the EFCC conducted a raid on the residence of the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alh Yahaya Adoza Bello, without a warrant. The EFCC's actions were condemned as reminiscent of the dark days of military dictatorship, causing Nigeria's reputation to suffer internationally.

Of particular concern to the Middle-Belt Vanguard is the EFCC's disregard for a High Court injunction restraining them from harassing, intimidating or threatening to arrest Alh Yahaya Bello and his associates. Despite being served with the injunction, the EFCC allegedly continued its aggressive tactics, raising questions about its respect for the judiciary and due process.

The association accuses the EFCC of attempting to subvert the course of justice and undermine the country's judicial system. They assert that while they support efforts to combat corruption, such actions must be carried out within the confines of the law, without trampling on the rights of individuals or abusing legal procedures.

The letter calls on President Tinubu, a staunch advocate for democracy, to intervene and ensure that the EFCC operates in accordance with constitutional provisions and respects the rule of law. It emphasizes the importance of preserving Nigeria's democratic values and preventing any regression into authoritarianism or abuse of power.

In conclusion, the Middle-Belt Vanguard urges President Tinubu to address the concerns raised and take decisive action to rein in the EFCC's excesses. They express gratitude for his commitment to good governance and leadership, emphasizing the need for his timely intervention to safeguard democracy and protect the rights of all citizens.

The open letter underscores the growing calls for accountability and transparency within Nigeria's law enforcement agencies, highlighting the delicate balance between combating corruption and respecting individual liberties.

*The Group Led by the President And CONVENER finally Presented the Open Letter to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Dr. Caleb Mutfwang for Onward delivery to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu* . The letter Was received unbehalf of the Executive Governor

Politics / Bello: World Bank's Transparency Awards vs EFCC, Reality of Nigeria's Politics by danladi02: 11:26am On Apr 22
Bello’s Multiple World Bank Fiscal Transparency Awards vs EFCC’s Vendetta: The Sad Reality of the Dirtiness of Nigerian Politics

..Yahaya Bello’s ordeal

In the unique nature of Nigerian politics, where transparency often seems like a distant dream, contrasting narratives emerge, painting a complex picture of governance. Nowhere is this complexity more evident than in the divergent paths of recognition taken by the World Bank and that of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) concerning former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration.

On one hand, the World Bank had previously lauded Bello’s administration for its strides in fiscal transparency and revenue mobilization. The recognition bestowed upon his administration, in the form of multiple awards and accolades, speaks to a narrative of progress and accountability in a landscape often marred by corruption and opacity. Bello’s government, according to the World Bank, had demonstrated a commitment to openness and efficiency in managing public finances, a rare feat in Nigerian politics. For this, Governor Yahaya Bello had won most transparent state government award from the apex banking body, an award given to the Kogi state government under watch of Yahaya Bello from year to year.

However, juxtaposed against this commendation is the relentless pursuit of Bello by the EFCC, Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency. Despite the World Bank’s recognition of Bello’s administration as a paragon of transparency, the EFCC’s actions tell a different story. The agency’s attempts to arrest Bello over allegations of financial misconduct cast a shadow over the accolades bestowed upon his administration, underscoring the complexities and contradictions inherent in Nigerian politics.

The coexistence of these contrasting narratives highlights the murky waters of Nigerian governance, where perceptions of transparency and corruption often coalesce in unexpected ways. While the World Bank applauds Bello’s administration for its transparency efforts, the EFCC’s pursuit suggests a different reality—one fraught with allegations of malfeasance and impropriety.

The suspicion of political motivation behind the EFCC's actions gains traction when considering the agency's selective enforcement of restraining orders. Despite court injunctions prohibiting Bello's arrest, the EFCC's persistence in its pursuit raises red flags about ulterior motives. Moreover, the agency's failure to similarly pursue other officials facing similar legal constraints further fuels suspicions of bias and political interference.
In contrast, the World Bank's recognition of Bello's administration for transparency serves as a beacon of credibility amid the fog of political intrigue. The institution's impartial assessment underscores the significance of international validation in Nigeria's governance landscape. Unlike the EFCC, whose actions are subject to scrutiny and suspicion, the World Bank remains a respected authority, lending legitimacy to its assessments and commendations.

Ultimately, the tale of World Bank recognition versus EFCC pursuit serves as a sobering reminder of the intricacies of Nigerian politics and the challenges of effecting meaningful change in a landscape shaped by competing narratives and interests.

Politics / Head Of Tinubu Media Support, Onokpes Jesutega Blasts EFCC Over Bello by danladi02: 7:53pm On Apr 20

*Head of Tinubu Media Support, Barr. Jesutega Blasts EFCC Over Bello*

A lawyer and Chaiftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jesutega Onokpes has said that common sense should tell the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that the legal thing to do before attempting to arrest the former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, was to first set aside the High Court order preventing him from being arrested, detained or prosecuted and that being a federal agency does no make it legal for EFCC to jump an oder concerning a state public servant.

...Says Bello was a State Governor and that the state's High Court order must be respected.

He disclosed this as a guest on the program "Stand Point" on TVC on Saturday.

Politics / Yahaya Bello: CSOs Protest Against EFCC In Lagos by danladi02: 6:01pm On Apr 20
. Say FG’s drastic actions suggest issue is political, beyond corruption

. Alert FG, public to imminent threats to ex-Gov’s life

. Describe issue of evading arrest as deliberate misinformation

. Issuing military action threat by EFCC anti-democratic, violation of courtroom sanctity

Hundreds of human rights activists, on Saturday, hit the streets of Lagos to condemn what they described as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s antidemocratic approaches to issues of law enforcement as well as unjust application of state power by the Federal Government.

The Anti-Corruption Civil Society Organisations, numbering over 120, along with a huge crowd of members and supporters, stressed that the actions of the Federal Government in the ongoing face-off between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, which took an ugly dimension during the week, suggested that the bone of contention was beyond the EFCC exercising its constitutional responsibility.

According to them, from the facts and documents obtained on the matter, the EFCC never sent a letter of invitation to ex-Gov Bello.

The issue of evading arrest, they said, did not therefore exist.

“Someone who was never invited, who has a valid court order restraining his arrest and harassment, among other reliefs, until the determination of the court case, could not be said to be evading arrest. It is deliberate misinformation to turn the public against the Governor,” they said.

The anti-corruption activists and human rights crusaders, specifically condemned the military action threat by an EFCC lawyer, saying that, issuing “such a threat before a judge and inside a court was a violation of the sanctity of the courtroom.”

The Chairman of the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, Debo Adeniran, who led other activists during the protest on Saturday, noted that the ongoing disregard for the rule of law was not only about Yahaya Bello.

“We don’t know who the next victim will be,” he said.

“If the FG continues in its iniquitous way of trampling on the rule of law by undermining our judicial system, we will mobilise a much larger number of Nigerians to join this pro-democracy struggle. It concerns all Nigerians because we don’t know who the next victim may be,”
Adeniran said.

He called on the Federal Government to first obey all the court orders preceding their own actions in court and then go ahead to vacate them through due processes of law.

“There is no point in endangering anyone’s life unnecessarily because that’s the situation we believe that Yahaya Bello is in now. If the government doesn’t handle this matter carefully, it may shoot itself on the foot and put all Nigerians in collective injury,” the activists said.

The activists warned that Government should not instigate anarchy, insisting that democracy is governed by the rule of law and not the rule of force.

They pointed out that some of them had been in the trenches for over four decades without comprising their stand on justice.

“Thirty-one years ago when we organized to confront the military for the annulment of the June 12 election by General Ibrahim Babangida’s junta, it was for the cause of justice.

“Nobody paid us a dime to organize the anti-SAP protests of 1989 that nearly shut down the entire country.

“We have organised or participated in many altruistic struggles. In the course of these selfless struggles, many of us were jailed, many were maimed, a lot lost their lives on the battlefield of the fight for justice. But we have remained undettered till date. Ours is thankless sacrifice for humanity. But we are not complaining.

“We have been on the side of the EFCC in many cases without gratification or prompting. But on this case, we insist that the EFCC is disregarding the rule of law and creating room for anarchy. And this must not be allowed to stand,” they stated.

The anti-graft CSOs stated, “Our intervention today is to ensure that each side in the ongoing but avoidable tension between the Federal Government through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the immediate former Governor of Kogi State gets the justice that is deserved – both the agency and the suspect.

“We feel that it was totally unnecessary to threaten military action in a civil case because it may escalate beyond proportions and cause devastating even if unintended consequences as being suggested by the EFCC through their lawyer.

“We are hearing now that some citizens of Kogi State are already saying that the FG would be held responsible if anything untoward happens to their former Governor.”

“If the FG insists on inviting the military to intervene in a civil case involving a citizen, it is better they return power to the military so that we know that we are back to ground zero. It is now very clear to all Nigerians that this Yahaya Bello’s saga is far from being about corruption. Come to think of it, how do you accuse a man of stealing an amount that the combined total of its IGR and Federal allocation for two years is not even up to? Why is the FG fishing for chicken inside a river? It doesn’t live there,” one of Nigeria’s lead activists, Gbenga Soloki, said.

“If anyone doubts our determination to continue fighting for justice on this matter, they should wake up and smell the coffee. We will not relent and neither will we retreat until justice is not only done but seen in this Yahaya Bello’s case. We won’t stop,” a spokesperson for the Coalition of Anti-Corruption Civil Society Organisations Olufemi Lawson, added.

The press conference was led by Comrades Debo Adeniran, Executive Chairman, Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership CACOL); Sina Loremikan, (Campaign Against Impunity); Declan Ihekhaire, (Activists for Good Governance); Gbenga Soloki, CADOV; Ochiaga Ohaneze, (Ohaneze Youth Council); Funmi Jolade, (Women Democratic Vanguard); Kola Abe, (Centre for Socioeconomic Rights); Ologun Ayodeji, (Transparency and Accountability Group); Femi Lawson, (Centre for Public Accountability) and Gbenga Ganzallo (Media Rights Campaign), among others.

Politics / Women Empowerment: Federal Government Distributes 387 Items In 13 States by danladi02: 4:58pm On Apr 09
Pursuant to renewed efforts to ensure improved entrepreneurship and sustainable empowerment of Nigerian women, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has distributed about 387 items in 13 states of the federation in the first phase of its initiative to scale up the socio-economic status of women and the vulnerable especially in the rural areas.

According to the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs, Barr Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, the first phase of the distribution which is coming on the heels of recent launch of an E-Market portal for women, witnessed the distribution of Garri processing and frying machines, industrial sewing machines, industrial button hole holding machines, heavy industrial irons, Tapping machines, Steam pressing machines, Sewing machines for stretches and stitches, Cloth cutting machines, Fish smoking machines,60,000 litres Fish rearing buckets and Rice Milling Machines.

She added that the Ministry resolved to introduce women to skill acquisition training programs on rice and fish farming, tailoring and other business ventures, “ we had to partner with a Chinese firm in Abuja last year to train participants from 7 states on Rice farming and processing in addition to other training programs aimed at building the capacity of women on various business ventures. Part of the initiatives is to formally commission and hand over the distributed items to the Governors of the benefiting states and also build stronger collaborations to scale up women empowerment in such states”

The Minister also stated that the national headquarters is working in tandem with State Commissioners for Women Affairs and Council of Traditional Rulers to ensure transparency, proper coordination and implementation of on-going distribution of the empowerment items across the various states.

Politics / What SDP Should Know About Discrepancy Between Presidential And Guber Election by danladi02: 7:03am On Apr 04
In response to recent allegations of blackmail and propaganda leveled by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) against Alhaji Yahaya Bello and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, it is imperative to provide a comprehensive rebuttal to set the record straight.

Firstly, the SDP's assertion regarding the alleged support of former Governor Bello for Mr. Ododo to enable his presidential aspirations in 2027 is baseless and lacks substantial evidence.
Such claims only serve to perpetuate unfounded rumors and distractions from the real issues at hand. It could be recalled that a few weeks to the Kogi November 11th, 2023 Governorship Elections, the former Candidate of the SDP on a live Television Programme Politics today described Bello support for His Party Candidate Ahmed Usman Ododo as a plan to raise financial support ahead of 2027 Presidential Project, on the same programme The SDP Candidate declared the Kogi Central people as his common Enemy, Not only embarrassing to the the people of Kogi State who have enjoyed relative Peace and Unity under former Governor Bello but his statement was a call for Anarchy and Disunity to the Peace building efforts of Bello. His statement was targeted at blackmailing the former Governor to cause political crisis between the former Governor and his leader Senator Bola Tinubu who he enjoys smooth and Very cordial relationships with since the formation of the APC.

Moreover, the comparison drawn between the presidential election results and the gubernatorial election in Kogi State is misleading and fails to consider the unique circumstances surrounding each election in the State.

The challenges faced during the presidential election, including the Naira redesign, voters' apathy, and economic hardships, significantly impacted voter turnout and overall participation.

It's worth noting that the Naira redesign policy adversely affected the popularity of the APC, resulting in significant losses for the party nationwide. The APC lost some of its Strong holds like Katsina, Lagos and Nations Capital FCT.

Even some very influential figures like the Director General of the Presidential Campaign Senator Simon Lalong, who at that time was serving Governor of the APC and the National Chairman of the APC Senator Abdullahi Adamu suffered losses in their respective states of Plateau and Nassarawa States respectively. It was a close call for Borno, the home state of VP Kashim Shettima, and other states where the APC narrowly escaped defeats. The likes of some powerful APC Governors lost their home states to opposition, His Excellency Abdullahi Ganduje Kano State, His Excellency Mal. Nasiru Elrufai Kaduna State, His Excellency Mai Mala Buni Yobe State ETC all lost their States to Opposition Parties.

But as difficult as the situation of the country was at that time, in Kogi State, the case was completely different as Alhaji Yahaya Bello led APC won convincingly for the APC in the Presidential and also sweeping all the three Senatorial seats for APC.

Furthermore, the notion of a "local derby" in politics, where local candidates typically garner more support than external contenders, must be taken into account when analyzing the gubernatorial election results in Kogi State. This phenomenon explains the disparity in voter turnout between local candidates like Ajaka, Ododo, and Dino compared to national figures like Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi.

Additionally, it is essential to highlight that the total votes cast in the gubernatorial election do not accurately reflect the potential voter turnout in Kogi State, considering its sizable registered voter population. Various factors, including voter intimidation and logistical challenges, may have contributed to the lower-than-expected voter turnout.

They overlooked the fact that Kogi boasts of over 1.9 million registered voters, of which 1.7 million PVCs were collected. Moreover, it was Former Governor Bello alongside His Excellency Mal Nasiru Elrufai and His Excellency Mohammed Bello Matawale who took the Federal government to court, ultimately securing a judgment allowing the use of both old and new currency notes. This decision significantly bolstered support for His Excellency the former Governor Bello and the APC in Kogi State ahead of the November 2023 off season Governorship Elections the Produced His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo as Governor.

The Damage and Crisis that occurred in the country during the Naira redesign Policy was capable of shutting down the entire country, but former Governor Yahaya Bello alongside other Nationalist in persons of Mal. Nasiru Elrufai and Mohammed Bello Matawale challenged the Federal Government decision, which later restored succour to the Livelihood of Nigerians following the Judicial Pronouncement of the acceptability of both old and New Naira notes as legal Tender by the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Nigerians suffered untold hardship as a result of the Naira redesign policy.

It has become obvious that Kogi SDP is staggering and looking for every possible wage to hold them standing. Now that watery issues have become their focus, it's save to say that they are heading for slippery hills.

Politics / Women Affairs Partners Getbundi Foundation On Digital Skills Training For Women by danladi02: 3:11pm On Apr 02
The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has concluded plans for capacity training programs for Nigerian women on digital skills in collaboration with a private organization, GetBundi Educational Foundation as part of measures to close the gap on gender exclusives and also hone up the skills of women on contemporary global trends on digital solutions and applications.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by representatives from GetBundi Foundation, the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs, Barr Uju Kennedy Ohanenye expressed her delight with the partnership which according to her “ will provide our women and young girls with cutting edge on digital application and other computer-based solutions that will put them at par with their contemporaries in other climes. The global community is moving at a very fast pace and the Ministry thought it ideal to organize training on digital skills for our women to upscale their knowledge on computer application and information communication technology. The interesting aspect of the proposed collaboration is that aside from organizing the program free for the women, it will be followed up by empowering the participants with start-up kits that will not only enhance their capacity of digital solutions but will encourage them to start their own businesses”
“We are very optimistic that this initiative will open up new vistas of opportunities for our women to veer into special areas of human endeavor that will acquaint them with prerequisite knowledge and skills to cope with contemporary global trends in ICT” the Minister added.
Barr Uju also added that the training has been designed to have 300 participants between the ages of 18 and 40 years, drawn from across the six geo-political zones as a pilot project which will be scaled up subsequently to have more participants. This initiative will further boost our drive to close the gap on gender inclusiveness.
Responding, the Executive Secretary of GetBundi Foundation, Dr. Obiamaka Agbakoba  stated that “ the GetBundi is a hybrid digital skills education technology platform designed to deliver high quality, engaging and accessible digital courses to individuals across Africa”
Speaking further, she said “the tech industry is no doubt a male-dominated career across the globe at the moment and Africa is no exception. Research reveals that only 30 percent of African women make up the tech industry, which signifies that women are highly under represented”
She also expressed her concerns that despite the overwhelming percentage of women in the African continent, available data reveals that only very few are in the digital and technological space compared to men, with women in the tech space making up only 22 percent of the industry workforce in Nigeria.
According to her “ We believe that with conducive platforms, Nigerian women can learn and lead commercial innovations but this female digital exclusion, a situation where women are disproportionately left behind in accessing and using digital technologies and services, is a pervasive problem hindering the realization of fully inclusive digital future and we need to bridge this gap” she concluded.

Politics / Chief Richard Asaje Condemns Igala Agitation For Power Shift by danladi02: 10:04pm On Mar 22
In a bold move aimed at addressing the ongoing political turmoil in Kogi State, Chief Richard Asaje, the National Coordinator and Convener of the Like Mind Alliance Pressure Group, has broken his silence to express his concerns regarding the agitation for power shift in the state.

Chief Asaje, revered as an Elder Statesman, has been observing the political landscape unfold since the election of His Excellency, Alhaji Ododo Usman as Governor of Kogi State. However, he has decided to speak out against what he describes as "unholy, unpatriotic, and repulsive" agitation by the Igala nation for power to return to the Eastern senatorial district.

In his statement, Chief Asaje acknowledges the right of each senatorial district to stand by their political representatives or candidates. However, he criticizes the Igala nation for what he perceives as an excessive and selfish pursuit of power, particularly their insistence on power returning to the Eastern senatorial district where it has resided for 19 uninterrupted years.

One of the main reasons prompting Chief Asaje to break his silence is the perceived insult against the people of the Western senatorial district. He condemns the Igala's mocking statement suggesting that since Governor Yahaya Bello did not give the ticket to the Okun Nation from Kogi West, then power should return to the Igala people, implying the disregard of the Western senatorial district.

Chief Asaje expresses his opposition to what he views as an attempt to disrupt the divine zoning system by which Governor Yahaya Bello emerged from the Central senatorial district. He warns against the Igala's pursuit of power through "unholy judicial means," suggesting that electoral frauds associated with certain local governments in Kogi East could be exposed.

Despite his reservations about Governor Ododo's emergence as the APC flag bearer, Chief Asaje asserts that if the Supreme Court upholds Ododo's victory, it would not be the end of the world. He emphasizes that Kogi State is not and will never be an annex of the Igala nation.

Reflecting on past political decisions, Chief Asaje recalls his support for Governor Yahaya Bello in 2015, despite opposition from his own people in the Okun Nation. He asserts that the people of Kogi West and Central senatorial districts will rally behind Ododo's victory at the tribunal and provide unprecedented support to his administration.

Chief Richard Asaje's statement signals a significant voice in the ongoing political discourse in Kogi State, urging for unity and fairness in the political process.
