The suspects arrested were Abdulmumin Ibrahim Otaru (a.k.a Abu Mikdad) and one of his associates, Saidu Suleiman.

DSS spokesperson, Dr Peter Afunanya, said the suspects were arrested on January 3, 2023 and Otaru sustained a gunshot injury on his left foot while attempting to escape.

He further said: “During investigations, it was ascertained that Otaru was a high commander of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and either coordinated or was involved in the following dastardly operations: the 24th June, 2022 attack on Nigeria Police Area Command, Eika-Ohizenyi, Okehi LGA of Kogi State. A Police Inspector, Idris MUSA was killed and two AK-47 rifles carted away in that attack;

“The 5th July, 2022 attack on Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje Area Council of the FCT; and the 5th August, 2022 attack on West African Ceramics Ltd (WACL) in Ajaokuta LGA, Kogi in which three Indian expatriates were kidnapped. It would be recalled that five persons including one Indian, two Policemen and two drivers of the company were also killed in the attack. Politics / Kogi: Agbakoba Heads To Court, Insists EFCC Must Not Undermine Rule Of Law by danladi02: 10:01am On Dec 21, 2022
In order to legally prove his stance that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has been breaking the rule of law, especially with the manner it prosecutes matters relating to states of the Federation, former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Dr Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, has said he is heading to court.

Agbakoba said he would be praying the court for a declaration on the exact scope of powers of the commission, especially in relation to states of the Federation, while maintaining that the EFCC must not in the fight against corruption undermine the rule of law.

He quoted a very recent decision, Dr. Joseph Nwobike SAN v The Federal Republic of Nigeria FRN SC/CR/161/2020, in which the Supreme Court drastically limited the scope of powers of the EFCC, as it recognised that the EFCC being very powerful could not be allowed to run amok.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria spoke in a statement he released on Tuesday evening, titled, “The Scope of Powers of EFCC Will Be Tested By The Courts.”

The statement reads, “Concerned that the EFCC often exceeds its powers in the investigation and prosecution of alleged offenders of our criminal laws, I held a media press conference to express my concerns, which I do occasionally on several national issues. I stated that I felt that the EFCC often but not all the time, I must concede, exceeded its powers in what it considers to be its public duty, in the war against corruption in Nigeria.

“The EFCC issued a response stating that I was wrong to take the views that it sometimes acts outside the scope of its powers vested by the EFCC Act. The EFCC referred to some cases, but I would say that in a very recent decision, Dr. Joseph Nwobike SAN v The Federal Republic of Nigeria FRN SC/CR/161/2020, the Supreme Court drastically limited the scope of powers of the EFCC, as it recognised that the EFCC being very powerful could not be allowed to run amok.

“I am not a court. Neither is the EFCC. I will proceed to the Court for a declaration on the exact scope of powers of the EFCC, especially in relation to states of the Federation. A declaration by a Judicial authority is the most valid process to authenticate if I am right or wrong with respect to my position that the EFCC often acts contrary to the law.

“I am not in any way against the EFCC on the fight against corruption. As admitted by the EFCC, I have always supported the fight against corruption. My concern is that the EFCC, in its undoubted statutory powers to stamp out corruption in Nigeria must strictly conform to the prescriptions of the law. EFCC must not in the fight against corruption undermine the rule of law. So, to the courts I go.”
While addressing a press conference on “The Rule of Law in Nigeria Today”, in Lagos on Sunday, Agbakoba had faulted the anti-graft agency over its recent actions against the Kogi State Government.

According to him, how a state spends its money should not be the business of the anti-graft agency. He had accused the EFCC of impunity, saying that assuming it was the Commission’s business to inquire how the state spends its money, would it still be its lawful business to investigate it?

Politics / Chief Maiyegun Tackles Group Accusing Faleke Of Anti-party Activities by danladi02: 5:27pm On Dec 20, 2022
A staunch political leader, and front line member of the late Prince Abubakar Audu political family, Hon. Chief Dave Dare Maiyegun has reacted to the faceless body from Kogi West accusing Rt. Hon James Faleke of anti-party activities.

Chief Dave Mayegun reacted on the allegation against Faleke in a statement on Tuesday while granting interview to Newsmen in Lokoja after inspecting the multi Million Naira Tinubu/ Shettima Presidential Campaign edifice put up by Hon. Leke Abejide the Convener and National Cordinator of the Asiwaju Confluence Campaign Organization ACCO2023.

The chief described the faceless group as jobless, and mischief makers who are seeking unessary attention from the public. He described Chief Faleke as an astute politician with very versed experience as a former chairman and a third term member of the House of Representatives representing Ikeja Federal Constituency Lagos State.

He further Stated that Chief Faleke is a bridge builder and trusted ally of the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who he stood all out for before, during and after the presidential primaries where his Tinubu Support Group (TSG) featured prominently in ensuring Asiwaju Bola Tinubu's victory at the primaries and he even showed more commitment in the General Elections as the secretary of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

In his words "Faleke is committed to the APC, not cheap propaganda and blackmail by some faceless miscreants and mischief makers." If the So called Writters and Sponsors from Kogi West are Scared and complaining of Faleke influencing their Elections in Kogi West, it shows they are not onground and needs to put their House in order. How can somebody from Ikeja Federal Constituency in Lagos determine the outcome of your Elections in Kogi West? Chief Mayegun added.

He said Faleke who is a third term House of Representatives member is also the APC candidate seeking a fourth term in representing in Ikeja Federal Constituency.

"No cheap propaganda can distract the Secretary of Tinubu/Shettima Presidential campaign council, Hon. James Faleke, off from his determination to deliver Nigeria’s vote for the All Progressive Congress, Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu," Chief Dare said.

He added that, contrary to the rumour that Faleke is supporting other party candidates in Kogi West Senatorial district, that the Lagos-politician is committed to the 2023 Presidential project of Tinubu and all other APC candidates within and outside the state rather than a cheap propaganda.

He said, “The so called anti-party only exists in the writer’s imagination and that of thier sponsors.

"It is pertinent to state that if there is any anti-party or would be, Faleke cannot be a party to such distraction."

Chief Mayegun who is the Director General Asiwaju Confluence Campaign Organization ACCO2023 described his Principal Elder Leke Abejide as a man who holds Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in very high esteem and often described him as his political father and mentor.

He commended Elder Leke for setting up a very robust grassroots Political structure, ACCO2023, which will be formally launched and Commissioned in few days. He further stated that What Elder Leke has established for the Asiwaju/Shettima project is unprecedented and non of the so called faceless writers and their sponsors can match Leke in support and contribution to his mentor Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He described Elder Leke and Chief Faleke as brothers who believe in the leadership of Senator Bola Tinubu to turn around the fortunes of Nigeria just as he did in Lagos, and today Lagos is far ahead of all States in Nigeria.

“Let me use this medium to warn such fourth columnists that Faleke is an excellent politician who has always projected the goals of the APC beyond personal interests and will do everything for the growth of the party," he said.

On the issue of Leke Abejide, presence at the Kogi West meeting, he said, “the same man declared openly for Asiwaju before primary at the national assembly engagement with House of Representative members before primaries.

“He restated this fact at the meeting that he is a product of Asiwaju and even though his party have presidential candidate he will still support Tinubu.

“Arch Salman who was mentioned was never part of the said meeting, so it is wrong for anyone to now say Faleke is supporting other candidates against APC."

Chief Maiyegun further urged the people of Kogi West to unite and vote massively for Tinubu/Shettima come 2023.

Politics / Kogi To Take Dangote To Court Over Obajana Cement Ownership by danladi02: 9:03pm On Oct 14, 2022
The Kogi State Government has resolved on Friday to drag Dangote Cement Plc to court and reclaim what rightfully belongs to the people.

Recalled that the National security council on Friday orders immediate reopening of Obajana Cement factory in Kogi State, advise that all issues in contention be resolved legally, insists government is committed to providing employment.

However, the Kogi State government said the decision to go to court was taken at an emergency meeting on Thursday night between key government officials, led by Governor Yahaya Bello and stakeholders representing the different ethnic groups in the state.

A statement signed by the Hon. Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo on Friday evening said that, at the meeting, which ran into the early hours of Friday, all stakeholders resolved to head to court in the interest of the people and generations to come.

He said the Governor made it clear to the House that there was no going back on the state’s resolve to reclaim its asset, even while he sued for calm in the interest of peace.

“This struggle is not about Governor Yahaya Bello or his administration. It is about the people of Kogi State. In the last 72 hours, well meaning Nigerians, leaders and government officials have waded in and have pleaded with the Governor to consider reopening of the plant while discussions are ongoing.

“The expectations of the over 4 million Kogites are clear and high and we want to assure them that the Governor and the Government of Kogi State will not compromise the interest of the people of the state to reclaim their rights in the cement company.

“There were series of high powered meetings to resolve the impasse, including meetings having the Governor and Alh. Aliko Dangote in attendance. Discussions were held and statements of interest were established. But there was no agreement yet as some desperate parties are trying to promote in the media to mislead the public. We shall be non-violent in our approach as we are sure of green pathways to success for the people in this battle for the economic future of our dear state.

“However, we maintain that the collective asset of the people of Kogi State must be protected and reclaimed in this instance. And that is the process the government has started. We will fight this battle to the end until we get justice from the courts. No committee can resolve this dispute,” the statement said.

Politics / 2023: Yahaya Bello A Big Asset For The APC And Tinubu by danladi02: 7:23pm On Jun 11, 2022
By Dr Kachukwu Peter

Now that Nigerians are waiting for the major political parties' flagbearers to announce their running mates, it is a critical time for the parties, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC), whose flag bearer is Bola Tinubu, a southern Muslim, because the country's presidential election victory is always determined by religion, region, and class factor.

However, while selecting a running mate has become a difficult nut for the APC, the ruling party has the potential of coming out victorious if it thinks deeply and makes the right choices while taking the determining factors into account. And if the party truly wants to win in 2023, it has a former aspirant who meets Nigerians' expectations: Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State.

To begin, the APC must be cautioned not to dismiss the role of religion in Nigerian politics. Despite the fact that the party must conquer the north in order to win, it must not use a core northern Muslim. This is where Bello's selection may appeal to Nigerians.
Despite the fact that the governor is a Muslim, he is viewed as North Central with a high level of religious tolerance. This is also evident in his ability to bring the various religions in Kogi State together.

Yahaya Bello has received numerous commendations for his religious tolerance from major Christian leaders in Nigeria, including the leadership of the Redeemed Church and pastor Paul Eneche of Dunamis International during his most recent visit to Lokoja, where he ministered in the Government House Chapel built by Bello.

Yahaya Bello has a better chance of being accepted by Christians, which is great news for Tinubu and the APC.

Of course, when it comes to region, the northern votes have always determined the outcome of every presidential election. Because the north has the most voting population, it is nearly impossible to win an election in this country without the North's support. Again, Bello is Tinubu's only asset for penetrating the north. In the 2023 presidential election, Bello has the potential to conquest the North Central and divide the votes of the North West and East for the APC. As a result, the odds of Bello becoming Vice President favor him.

Furthermore, based on the governor's performance in the recently concluded primary election, it's important to remember that Bello remains the strongest governor, with the support of millions of young people.

Bello did not emerge as the APC's flag bearer, but he was unquestionably the most popular candidate in the run-up to the primaries. Even though he is the newest and youngest in political combat, he came in fifth place.

Again, the APC must look for someone with a national structure and worth. It is estimated that Yahaya Bello has over 26 million youth supporters across the country. The membership record of one of the governor's supporters groups revealed this. The youth-led group has the potential to win the hearts of young people over to the APC. This will calm the youth's desire for a power shift and help them embrace Tinubu, who will be running on a joint ticket with Bello, another youth.

Without a doubt, the Labour Party's candidate, Peter Obi, has the support of the Nigerian youth; however, with Yayaha Belli on the APC ticket, Tinubu will have the support of the youth. It was no secret that about 16 million young Nigerians marched for the young governor three weeks ago.

Nonetheless, the ball is now in the hands of Baba Tinubu and the APC. Nigerians are waiting to see what the party will propose. Any minor blunder deflates the party's fortunes and gives the opponent an advantage.

Politics / Five Reasons Yahaya Bello Should Be Running Mate by danladi02: 4:07pm On Jun 11, 2022
Thousands of Nigerians are urging Ahmed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress to select Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, as his running mate in order for the ruling party to have formidable candidates whose influences extend across the north and south, as well as across religion and age groups.

If the APC truly wants to win the 2023 election, it must look no further than Yahaya Bello as Tinubu's running mate for several reasons: Bello is acceptable to both Christians and Muslims; Bello is the candidate of the youth; Bello has the northern influence required of a southern candidate; Bello has the required fame; and Bello already has an existing structure and supporters base.

1. Investigating these five items Let us start with Governor Bello's acceptance across religious lines. To begin, the governor is currently regarded as the most religiously tolerant of Nigerian leaders. This follows the massive Church he built for Christian worshippers in the Kogi State Government House. It was the first of its kind in the state, with the majority of Muslims, and he went on to unify all religions, making the state free of religious crises. With this track record, Nigerians are willing to accept a Muslim-Muslim ticket if it is Bello and not a core northern Muslim.

2. Of course, Tinubu's age has been a major factor militating against the APC having a massive youth support, and in order to overcome this, the party must bring a youthful person onboard as a running mate. This will also allow various youth organizations formed in support of Yahaya Bello's ambition to collapse structure in favor of Tinubu and the APC.

3. A Southern candidate winning the presidency on a joint ticket with a strong northern leader is nearly impossible. Bello, once again, fits in. He is now regarded as the most powerful governor in the north, owing to the fight he put up during the recent Primary Election, in which he received many votes while others received none. The APC can rely on Bello to deliver the north. His domain is the north central, and the north east and west are where he could get reasonable votes or possibly win votes for the APC.

4. The Kogi State governor has been widely discussed on social media and offline in recent times. His fight against insecurity, as well as his unusual audacity in running for president, earned him widespread fame, with many Nigerians rallying behind him. Tinubu should think about this very carefully.

5. Finally, as a former presidential candidate, Governor Bello has an existing political structure that Tinubu and the APC must leverage in order to overcome the opposition's fierce alliance.

Bello Ambassadors Network Hails Yahaya Bello, Commends Nigerians
The leadership of the Bello Ambassadors Network (BAN) wishes to commend the governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for taking an interest in fixing the largest black nation on mother earth - Nigeria, and pushing the struggle forward with uncommon audacity, despite the fact that the outcome of his party, the All Progressive Congress, presidential primary election held today in Abuja was not in his favor.

The voices of Nigerian youths were heard through the painstaking activities of BAN across Nigeria, and we are grateful that Governor Bello heard our cries, threw his hat into the ring, and fought the battle to this very end. We are glad that we supported Bello, and none of our members across the country have any reason to be disappointed.

We thank Nigerians for their massive support, throughout our movements across the country. Based on what we saw, we can safely conclude that Nigerians accepted our initiative and serving as a liaison between the governor and the people.

Governor Bello did not fall short. We made strong statements that have already stuck in the minds of Nigerians, particularly the youth, and we want to state unequivocally that BAN is here to stay. We shall be unveiling additional programs for the betterment of our beloved country.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our Grand Patron, Chief Sunny Ibanga, all of our national team members, zonal, state and local coordinators, as well as volunteers. Keep the hope alive and stay committed to the movement of young people taking over the leadership of this country.

Remember that BAN, which debuted in February 2021, is today one of Nigeria's largest social political groups, with approximately 70% of our members being youth. Politics / SE, SS Delegates Reject Northern Governors Plot For SW President, Prefer Yahaya by danladi02: 9:24am On Jun 07, 2022
The plot by some northern governors to zone the All Progressive Congress presidential ticket to the South West has been roundly rejected by party delegates from across the states gathered in Abuja.

Some of the delegates who spoke to the press earlier today at Eagle Square stated that the APC primary election is intended to be contested by all qualified aspirants and voted on by delegates who have traveled from different states as representatives of party members in their respective states.

According to the delegates from the South East and South South, the northern governors' move for a South West zoning is part of a scheme to marginalize the South East and South-South, as well as to deny competent individuals like Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello the chance to become the APC flagbearer.

The delegates stated that who they vote for is personal to them; however, they noted that Bello has a better chance of receiving their votes because he has proven to be bold enough to lead the country, coupled with his achievements in Kogi and his drive for tribal and religious unity.

Politics / How Yahaya Bello's Confidence Is Driving Huge Delegate Support by danladi02: 9:28pm On Jun 06, 2022
Regardless of the turbulence facing Kogi State Governor and top presidential aspirant Yahaya Bello from within and outside his party, the All Progressive Congress, the governor has remained steadfast, winning the hearts of more delegates for his audacity ahead of the primary election scheduled for Tuesday.

Bello, who is said to be facing various conspiracies, has remained the APC's potential flag bearer as of today, refusing to withdraw from the 2023 presidential race cheaply.

On Monday evening, ahead of the party's primary election, the governor walked out of a meeting of northern governors suspected of pushing a selfish agenda. He had stated several times that anyone elected president should be chosen on the basis of competence, regardless of religion or region.

Yahaya Bello appears to be winning the battle, as Nigerians, particularly the delegates who have mostly arrived in Abuja, admire his audacity.

Politics / South East Youths Organize Walk In Awka, Call On Nigerians To Support Bello by danladi02: 8:54pm On May 21, 2022

Thousands of youths and people with disabilities from across the south eastern states converged in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, on Saturday to demand that Nigerians give Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, the chance to lead the country come 2023.

The crowd which marched through Awka's major roads was seen carrying placards with various inscriptions speaking in support of a young president and dampening for a Bello presidency in 2023.

The event, seen as one of the zone's recent mega rallies, was participated by a sociopolitical group, Bello Ambassadors Network and other pro-Yahaya Bello presidential groups.

Addressing the press during the rally, Hon. Anthony Edogbo, the national coordinator of BAN, said the rally was necessary to keep easterners' morale high in anticipation of a youthful presidency through Gov. Bello.

According to him, the movement was about a vibrant, energetic, and smart leader rather than religion, region, or tribe. He stated that Yahaya Bello is the ideal candidate for the type of president Nigeria currently requires, which prompted the outing.

While Hon Stanley, an Igbo youth leader, told the media that the choice of Bello is based on the fact that Nigeria is in desperate need of a detribalized leader who can unite the country.

He stated that the Igbos fully support Bello, which is why they turned out in large numbers for the rally.

On how the youth population can be translated into votes for Bello in the election, BAN stated that it has been conducting voter registration awareness and that it is certain that Nigerian youths have been able to equip themselves with their Personal Voters Cards to usher in a youthful government.

The youths believe the young governor will win the All Progressive Congress ticket because of his achievements as governor and the need for the party to field the most sellable candidate in order to win the election next year.

Politics / APC Primaries: A Yahaya Bello Flagship Will Be Greatest Gift For Nigerian Youths by danladi02: 7:47pm On May 06, 2022
With only a few weeks to the primary elections of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, Nigerian youths can't wait any longer to see the results, hoping that the only candidate who serves as an avenue for the young people to take over is fielded.

As the world changes and countries recognize that younger people should be given the opportunity to lead the society, young Nigerians are no longer willing to take a back seat in the country's affairs. The people who have become heavily involved in political movements ahead of the 2023 presidential elections have adopted a candidate as their own, and that candidate is none other than Alhaji Yahaya Bello, Nigeria's youngest governor.

While some refer to him as "the eyes of the youth," others see him as the youth ambassador who has demonstrated to Nigerians that young people are able and capable of leading in all capacities of governance.

Bello was elected governor at a time when young Nigerians were severely marginalized. Against all odds, he gathered young people from within and outside the state to form his formidable government, and his cabinet is now made up of roughly 70% young people. As a result, young Nigerians yearn for replication of that at the presidency.

From Bello's deputy to his Chief of Staff and every member of his cabinet, you can only find young people. Even those in their early twenties.

With the mantra of "youth O'Clock" taking over the Nigerian political space, it has become obvious that the young people are hungry for power and will be disappointed if the APC goes against their wish.

According to statistics, young people account for roughly 60% of Nigeria's population, and their voting power can never be underestimated. Perhaps this is one critical point on which the APC should capitalize to defeat any opposition in the general election.

Nigerian youths are enraged, believing that the same old recycled politicians have failed them over and over again. The people are not ready to take over the Aso Roch as their leader, and Yahaya Bello is the only link between them and power.

Politics / Why Goodluck Jonathan Can No Longer Contest In 2023 by danladi02: 8:25pm On Apr 27, 2022
April 26, 2022

On the 26th July,2017, the Nigerian Senate passed a Bill to amend the Constitution.

The House of Representatives gave its concurrence to the same Bill on 3rd, October 2017.

And the President, Muhammadu Buhari, assented to it,on the 11th, June 2018 to make it an Act.

That Act is now referred to as the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 ( 4th alteration, No.16) Act, of 2017.

This Act altered section 137 of the Nigerian Constitution by inserting a new sub section.. . .section 137 (3) of the 1999 Constitution.

It provides as follows:

× A person who was sworn-in to complete the term for which another person was elected as President, shall not be elected to such office for more than a single term.

Therefore, Goodluck Jonathan, having been sworn-in to complete the tenure of President Yaradua, upon his death; and having been elected thereafter, for a period of 4yrs that ended in 2015, can no longer contest in 2023.

He is now Constitutionally barred.

So, all those who are calling on him, including those youths who purportedly stormed his office few days ago, to beckon on him to contest in 2023, are doing so in futility.

It appears that President Jonathan, and his handlers are unaware of this provision of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

In my humble opinion, His Excellency, Good luck Ebele Jonathan is ineligible to contest.

Politics / Osinbajo's Team, Other APC Presidential Aspirant Seen Bribing Members In Ibadan by danladi02: 7:02pm On Apr 22, 2022
The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo's team and another presidential aspirant running on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) were spotted wooing party members with cash and other incentives on Friday in Ibadan.

Osibanjo's campaign team was seen handing out customized bags with the inscription "Osibanjo'23" and bundles of money stacked inside.

Some Nigerians have condemned the act, arguing that the VP should be banking on his accomplishments as the country's Vice President for over 7 years rather than luring the people into supporting his ambition with money. They claimed that the heinous action was motivated by the academic professor's lack of tangible accomplishments.

"Osibanjo’s attempt to woo the public through financial inducement rather than a record of achievement is insulting," an observer said.
