An Abuja-based medical practitional has warned that too
much intake of catfish could increase the chances of
developing cardiovascular diseases.

Arikawe Adeolu, a medical practitioner at Federal Medical
Centre, Abuja, said that catfish contained omega-6 fatty
acids.

The acid, he explained, could increase the level of
inflammation in the body.
He added that inflammation was the underlying cause of
cardiovascular diseases, certain cancers and diabetes.

A Malaysian-based Nigerian, with the name Friday Nduka,
has been reportedly shot dead by a police Inspector, Mike
Edem, in Imo state.

The victim, who returned from Malaysia for his wedding in
Owerri on December 27, 2016, was reportedly killed by the
trigger-happy policeman in the presence of his fiancée and
younger brother, the Punch is reporting.

The incident happened at the premises of a Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC Mega Station
located at the Control Post junction in Owerri.
The suspect, who is now at large, was said to be on duty at
the station when Nduka got into in a serious argument with
one of the pump attendants over his missing iPhone 7.

Imo state governor Rochas Okorocha said ethnicity and
bigotry is a serious issues in the country’s political
landscape.

Okorocha, who said this as part of his Christmas goodwill
message released by his Chief Press Secretary Sam
Onwuemeodor, indicated that as a result of the deep-rooted
ethnicity and religious bigotry in the country, the present
leaders cannot afford to hand over power to the youths.
Okorocha said for the present generation of youths to have
a shot at leadership roles in the country “they need to be
well-groomed by the present leaders.”

“What Nigerians, the leaders in particular, need to do now is
to unite and begin to build a country of our collective
dreams and aspirations.
“The leaders cannot afford to hand over to the next
generation what we have at the moment as a nation, in
which ethnicity, religious bigotry and zoning of political
offices are still the order of the day.

“Nigerians must endeavour to hand over to the next
generation, a united and prosperous nation, all the ethnic
and religious groups can be proud of.”
On the current economic meltdown, Okorocha called on
Nigerians to accept the situation as a national challenge.
He said: “Nigerians especially the leaders should appreciate themselves and see the current recession as a national challenge.”

“Christians in the state in particular to pray more than they
had never done before, for the good of the state and her
people.”
Recall that Governor Okorocha had recently blamed what he described as lack of peace among past leaders as the major cause for discord among Nigerians.

A young man, identified as Esomchi Ojobo has been arrested by the Police in Enugu State for allegedly defiling no less than 11 minors.

Spokesman of the police in Enugu State, SP Ebere Amaraizu revealed that, following the suspect’s arrest, he confessed that he had sexually abused not less than eleven minors through their anus.

Valentina Guebuza, the daughter of the former Mozambican
president Armando Guebuza has reportedly been shot dead
by her husband, Zófimo Muiuane.
Reports on Thursday said the incident took place on
Wednesday in Maputo.
