DANNIEmore:
Hi friend, been reading all your posts- enquiries and all and thanks to all veterans supporting you so far here. However, In support to what nijadove had said, the embassy would want the student to connect or relate his/her previous education/studies to the new one he/she would be going for. Nevertheless, still in her case, she should be able to connect Psychology to healthcare administration since there is clinical psychology.. This should be very easy to connect. Before any other interview or decision(s), allow her do her home work exhaustively. Let her come read this thread from pg 1 of part 1 to this point. I tell you truth, her story would change. .

#myfreedonation#
Thank you so much, danniemore. I agree with you. She is very comfortable with connecting her Bsc with her proposed MSc program. This thread is really helpful and I agree with you that she would benefit a lot from reading everything cover-cover. She is aware of the thread and has been reading it as well. I hope her next try will go well. I am assisting her with inquiries cos I have 24hrs internet access and not as restricted as her. I will encourage her to also feel free to ask questions. You guys are really helpful. Thank you all (eke40seven, Naijadove, dencotech, tmed1, dolpaz etc). We are veeery grateful. I am honestly impressed with the maturity, and mindset you have all demonstrated.

naijadove:
What course does she intend to study for her MSc. There are a whole bunch of courses in English for masters program, far more than BSc courses. Getting a masters is hard enough if she can learn in English why complicate it more in German? (she will still learn the language anyway) and she has a lot more options in the Winter semester as it is late to apply for summer courses. if you ask me, i think she should apply for english taught program in the winter semester(she was hoping to start her masters in the winter anyway)

Is her Masters course completely different from what she studied for Bachelors?
8-9months is quite a short time to learn german from scratch to masters level. even in english most cut off for Bsc is 60-80 while for masters its 80-100/110. Expectations are much higher for masters level. the same will apply for german.these could be other reasons why they doubt her going to study.
Unless you have a very strong case appeal may not come out positive.

Just my thoughts...Goodluck!
Naijadove, you asked really diligent questions. Thank you. Her Bsc was in psychology. Her intended program of study is MSc in healthcare administration. I agree with your points that the rejection may be due to the expected difficulty of learning in german language at masters level. Although it is doable. When I studied in Ukraine, I had colleagues that went into medical school after 9 months of preparatory school to study medicine in Russian language. I did mine in English. Given the points you have made, I guess the best option is to hold off on appealing for now. Instead, I will encourage her to pursue a winter admission in English and apply afresh. Her intention is to study honestly and nothing more. This is a sister that refused an offer to come and study in the Us with me when I had the privilege of helping her. She turned it down cos of her interest to wear Nigeria's NYSC dress and serve her country. I pray next time things goes well. She will do her best to show her intention next time. Thank you all.

When you wrote the word "that language", I assume you meant German language. I am not surprised your sister was denied. The German embassy are known to give such reasons for denial of visa, when the applicant intends to go for a language course. Studying a language course in Germany would cost more money. Goethe Institute is already in Nigeria. So, they probably see no reason why anyone would want to go to Germany just for a language course. If she had had a German proficiency of, for example, B1, the result of the interview could have been pretty different.

Or if she had been granted scholarship for a language course in Germany, then it would have been possible for her to convince the embassy.

If she has an admission letter from another university, of which the language of instruction is in English, then she should use it to apply for the visa.

Note: Please don't listen to those crooks outside the embassy. Many of them have not even stepped foot out of Nigeria.
Thank you, timed1. I agree with you that they prefer students to have language course here in Nigeria. I thought this will be different since she has admission letters for both programs (the schools are affiliated). I will keep the thread updated on the developments. Thank you

dencotech:
I think the embassy has been more than fair to me. I had my ist visa interview on the 17th of Dec last year. The next 2 days being 19th I got an email from the embassy to come. And that was my rejection letter coming to me on time. Well it was all my fault so I understood the rejection. I went to the emabssy on 22nd of Dec but met anoda Consular (not the asian) who said she could not find my file. Was asked to come back on January 5th. Dat's how my time was wasted but not embassy's fault but celebration period. Once I got my rejection letter on the 5th, I reapplied the same day, got an interview appointment email the nxt day scheduled on 16th Jan. I've had a wonderful 2nd interview and optimistically waiting for a positive answer.

In your sister's case, I think she should appeal if u people are sure no serious fault is from u. Appeal saves time and money. Again, making an appeal depends on the nature of their reason for rejection. I reapplied because I didn't have a satisfactory oral interview.

If u could tell me what the outcome her invitation by the embassy is, I could make an informed suggestion.
Thank you, dencotech. The outcome of the invitation by the embassy was negative. I guess she wasn't able to convince them enough. According to her, the interview went well. The only question she flunked was the question about the "city's total population." She was able to mention at least 5-7 states when asked. I will have her work on this. I hope they don't bounce her again cos of initial language course. Once again, I am very grateful. I pray you get a good response soon also.

Eke40seven:
1. its almost impossible to get admission letters for summer if you apply now. The deadline for all the school is January 15th, except if you are looking at winter. I wouldn't concur with the opinion that its EXCEPTIONALLY competitive to get English taught courses at least if she has a 3.0/5.00 GP.
The decision on which to stick to should be fact based. The most important thing is to check if she can meet up with the enrollment anytime she resumes. A mail to your school to confirm will come in very handy.

2. Read this page, you will find it there.

I hope you find it useful.

Good luck!

P.S. For whatever reason, even at knife point, never patronise touts. I mean, NEVER!!
Thank you eke40seven. I really appreciate that you took the time out to point me in the right direction. I also do apologize for late response. My sister was involved in an accident on her way back from the embassy ( @ Lagos-IB expressway). Thank God she is fine. In regards to her GPA, she graduated with a 3.99. We applied to two schools in August. We eventually got an email stating that "it was very competitive this year." Hence my conclusion. Since her initial program is a language course, they can send her a new one for May. Language school takes students every month from my understanding. I pray we make the right decision.
Also, thanks for your advice regarding touts. Patronizing them, encourages them to be in business. It is against my family's code of ethics.

Eke40seven:
This embassy are always rational in their decisions, if they feel so, then its no joke, it just showed that she was not convincing enough. That's the plain and simple truth. I suspected that even if she had used the MSC first, it would have still been the same results if she wasn't convincing enough.
Before you go appealing for the rejection, just strategize well. If you appeal for the language school now, you may not be able to meet up with the enrollment as school started since 5th January, so instead of appealing for the language, rather, rebook an appointment with the MSc. admission letter, the number of summer applicants ain't much so she should be able to get a slot for interview appointment in a week's time (from a recent account).
This time around, make terribly sure that she has a checklist of all the likely interview questions. this has been given time and time again on part one. Let her check the parts she didn't do well in and make appropriate corrections.

My 2 cowries.
Thank you eke40seven. I agree with you that probably she didn't convince them enough. I truly respect their decision. The only challenge we have right now is that her MSc admission was suppose to be in that language as well. It is exceptional competitive to get admission into an English program. The plan was for her to study language for 8-9 months and progress for her MSc. So her MSc admission letter does not kick in till she is done with language course. I am seriously considering the summer option. Here are my questions:
1) is it best to request for another letter from an English course or just stick with what we have and appeal with it?
2) given the short notice, do u have a rough estimate of where I can get the "checklist"? I have read the thread from 0 to this new page (although I had to skip some pages). I have google various points on this thread also (specifically typing in "nairaland" at the end of my questions since October)

note: she told me about people requesting for 750k to assist at the embassy. And another requesting 10k to help write an appeal. She was strongly discouraged from working with any of those dubious crooks. She is planning on writing her own appeal and sending it via email to the embassy. Thanks for your support guys! You are all awesome!

Eke40seven:
Since her school resumed more than 2 weeks ago, if her enrollment deadline coincides with the resumption or some days later, the embassy will NOT give her the visa. The embassy sometimes corresponds with the school (or sometimes, the deadline is plainly written on the admission letter) after the alien office might have approved it and will deny one the visa. Sometimes they may have mercy and not make the rejection official on your passport.

If I may ask, what sort of school resumes by January, a language school, isn't that right? if it is, I hope it meets the minimum requirements for approval by the embassy?
my 2 cowries.
First of all, thank you for your candid opinion. It is much appreciated. Yes the admission is for a language school, but she also have a MSC admission letter which was submitted along with the language school. We decided she should learn the language before starting her masters. We believe this will make her life less stressful if granted.
I just got the verdict from her now. Response was negative. Rationale given for rejection was that they can't guarantee she is going there for the intended purpose. What a joke! We plan on appealing the decision. Thank you

dencotech:
Dear your sibilings case is pathetic. Chances are always there that such cases amount to a rejection. I just had that experience in December. Now ask your sibling how her performance was at the oral interview. Or let her go first and no wot the problem could be. No insurance request means no Visa. However there are slim chances of the embassy needing further clarifications. All the same, let her be strong
Thank you, dencotech. May God's will be done. I know if she is destined to get it, she will, eventually. It is just sad that they will wait this late to get back to her. If I may ask, what did you do after the rejection? Once again, thank you smiley

Eke40seven:
Dolpy Dolpy, read what he posted again.

Brother, if she hasn't booked an insurance before or asked to fund her account, then its definitely a rejection.
I have seen a situation where someone was rejected after 10 weeks with similar request from the embassy. only in may be 5/100 times will such a case not be a rejection.

However, if she is going for this summer, then there is still enough time to appeal, no need to fret but just to make sure she right her wrongs the second time.

my 2 cowries!
Thank you for your response also. Her account has been funded since October 2014. I also booked an insurance for her since Nov 24. Insurance valued at almost $250k . However, she was not requested to present this insurance during her interview. Neither are they asking her to bring it now also. Her school resumed on the 5th of January. I hope this details are enough for people in the house to guess what might happen. I will update you tomorrow. Thank you

dolpaz:
No sir,

Since she was not asked to come with Insurance, its a two-way thing.

1) Its either her visa is ready for collection or

2) They need some confirmation about her school, resumption and all from her, but definitely that should not be a rejection.

Did she use a blocked account or Verpflichtungserklärung??

Alles Gute !
DolPaz. Thank you for your prompt response. She used the block account. I am honestly hoping this is not refusal. I will tell her this tonight. I hope it gives her hope for tomorrow. God bless you

Hello house! A family member applied to study in Germany. Her interview was 8-9 weeks ago. Today, she was requested to come to the embassy anytime between Mon-Fri with her passport and copy of the email. No insurance was requested. Does this mean refusal? Thank you
