The Deputy Chief Whip of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon Biodun Ibrahim, on Saturday, granted the requisite direct financial assistance to more than 100 elderly people in the Ola-Oluwa Local Government Area of the state. This was disclosed by the Office of the Deputy Chief Whip, Osun Assembly, expressing the lawmaker’s commitment to tackling poverty and hardship among vulnerable sections of the public. Ibrahim said the cash empowerment project has been created to support elderly citizens who may experience economic difficulties because of their age, low stable income, and limited access to social support services. “The older age group is entitled to recognition and health care because they have spent their entire lives working for the enhancement of the stability and growth of their communities. “This empowerment program is a declaration of gratitude and a commitment to inclusive governance. ” The elders of our society are a cornerstone of our values and traditions, and we have an obligation to ensure they don’t continue to stay behind.” Community leaders and stakeholders at the event expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing it as timely and insightful. They urged other political leaders to also conduct similar acts of service in their constituencies, saying that “while distributing money to the seniors, the empowerment program also restored dignity and a sense of belonging.” Recipients of this initiative, many of whom have been pensioners and widows, expressed their gratitude to the lawmaker and said the assistance came at a harrowing time when help was desperately needed to address dire needs. “It was more than money; it was a promise that we are not forgotten,” Mrs. Oladotun Funke said. Also speaking were other beneficiaries who praised and offered prayers for Ibrahim, and many could not help but shed tears as they were grateful to the lawmaker for a move described as “timely and life-changing.” “We have not been treated like this before. Today, I feel seen, I feel valued, and I am going home with joy in my heart,” Mr Lasisi Ogbudbade said. The empowerment program, he said, was a model of compassionate leadership and an effective blueprint for constituency service that reiterates the commitment of the Hon Biodun Ibrahim to community development and sets the bar for more public representation in Osun State. He said the empowerment of the elderly is not only a way of giving but also an example of purposeful representation and empathy in leadership. Kudos to the lawmaker for empowering the people. This is a major step to the process of representative democracy. https://tribuneonlineng.com/osun-lawmaker-empowers-over-100-elderly-persons-in-ola-oluwa-lga/

Good afternoon my nairaland family. I am so thrilled to have been awarded an award of excellence, with good compensation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, as I came first overall across the Nation in the EFCC essay writing competition 2024 on cybercrime. The competition was to award 3 winners in the tertiary category across and to my surprise I came first overall. As a young aspiring lawyer, I saw the writing competition as a means to express my view on Cybercrimes and how we can help our socio-political system to combat this evil. My essay met the top standards of the judges and I was invited to the National Cybercrime Crime Summit in the Presidential Banquet, Aso villa, Abuja; and was awarded by the EFCC chairman Mr Ola Olukoyede Esq. An award of excellence it is. Indeed, Nigeria cares for its younger generation and I am happy to be recognized. Congratulate me Nairalanders. ![]()

The recent attacks on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from different ends, particularly by state governors; political technocrats, and even members of the judiciary bags a question in the mind; What is really going on? What is this all about? The impending lawsuit being orchestrated from 16 state governors across Nigeria, challenging the constitutionality of the laws establishing the EFCC, coupled with other questionable assertions from various stakeholders in big Nigerian powerhouses raises a serious concern for the masses. On face value, Nigerians should wholly welcome the establishment of anti-corruption agencies like the EFCC, which was established in 2003 via an Act of parliament and became operational in 2004. Trying to disband an agency which has been effective in achieving its functions; as set out in Part II, Section 6 of the EFCC Act, 2004; on mere technicalities would be a bizarre, wild and a regressive approach. In a legal sense, technicalities arise in different matters and perpetrators try to leverage on these technicalities to dribble their way out of accountability and responsibility. Looking at the technicalities attached to this case, there is something regarded to as the Mischief rule of interpretation in law. The rule considers not only the exact wording of the statute, but also the legislators’ INTENTIONS in enacting it. In applying the rule, the court is essentially asking whether parliament in enacting the statute intended to rectify a particular mischief, even though it might not be covered by a literal reading of the statute’s wording. This rule is used to determine the exact scope of the mischief that the statute in question has set out to remedy; and rather not the way that it was enforced or enacted. This settles it. In as much as the EFCC was set up and took its root up by UNCAC, a treaty Nigeria ratified since 14 December 2004; and is not in line with the provisions of section 12 of the constitution as claimed by the plaintiffs, such an agency like EFCC should never be disbanded. In a polity where we have our governance deeply rooted on the pillars of democracy, accountability and transparency is taken with strong credence. The EFCC; a monitoring unit, and I like to refer to them as territory-watchers; performs a major role in safeguarding these pillars of democracy. Government and its executive personnel should not be having a field day looting the states’ commonwealth and having no one to challenge them; because it seems that is what the whole lawsuit brouhaha and furore is all about. No matter how ‘corrupt’ the EFCC is said to be, it is still an efficient check to stealing of state funds. Let’s agree that the agency is not effective; but for the governors to go against them, it probably means they are scared due to their financial recklessness. They want to go about their nefarious activities without fear of being summoned especially after leaving office. It’s never really about the masses. I posit that the Supreme Court should not waste its time in dismissing this frivolous case that is an infringement on the people’s right. I expect the Chief Justice of Nigeria, who is a minister in the temple of justice, to have the ‘eagles’ eyes, in order to see beyond what this lawsuit is all about and make a ruling in favor of the masses, and in safeguarding our democracy. I believe that the Supreme Court should jettison all those constitutional technicalities being bandied around by some very senior lawyers…Though the EFCC may be very ‘partial’ and over-reaching at times, they are still the only reason some Governors haven’t sold their states yet and kept the money in a Swiss or Panama account. My suggestion is an amendment of the laws governing their operations by the National Assembly; and to make it difficult for the EFCC to be controlled by external arms of government; and however, the EFCC should continue to work like ‘scarecrows’ and ‘terrorists’ to those who are caught in the webs of financial crimes. This is totally fraud and corruption rubbed on our faces. The statistics said to us is that $24B is spent on annual expenses for importation of fuel. So if $600m is spent monthly how does that equal to $24b in total ? |

My Nairaland friends and family ; How is it going? I’m not here to waste any of your time guys. I finally took the courage to work on something and I dropped my debut EP of 3track instrumentals. Less than a year into production, I believe that my love for music propelled me to curate this body of work and I titled it WINDS….. I want you to give me 4minutes of your time and listen to what I did and your reviews and opinions will be much appreciated. I want to know how it’s sounding and which artistes can fit in to the beats so I may feature them in the nearest future. Mind you, you might also hear this and bring out the inner creative artiste in you to freestyle on it. Feel free to comment, vibe, comment again and listen again. PoliteActivist:See that’s where your problem is. How will someone hate when he’s sober? Even if he hates it give it up to 7days and all the withdrawal symptoms are gone. It seems you yourself are battling drug lifestyle Well if you say you love being high all the time and staying high and it is not a problem to you then continue with your drug taking and see where it gets you. Since you don’t want to take the truth. I hate dishonest people wheww |
And if you don’t see being high all day as a habit and addiction then you no business here wasting your precious time on the logic he is giving. |
PoliteActivist:😅😂😂 na you dae miss the point bobo. If someone says he hates being sober, that means he loves being high everyday. So is getting high everyday an improvement to one’s life? Has there been any reward to it? Is one’s medical health life better than someone who doesn’t do it? Answer that first and be truthful in answering that. The answer would highly be NO. It’s only an addiction and a habit at this point. So,The truth is that he truly hates being high even though he loves doing the habit,it is something he truly hates cos he not be getting any reward from it So saying someone hate being sober itself is a problem on it’s own and not a good thing as you’re making it seem, And once someone sees something as a problem it should be part of what he hates and not love. So if it falls in things that he hate you can then apply the logic again. I hope you understand |
