Journalist and uncle to Sophia Momodu, Dele Momodu, has weighed in on the child custody battle between Sophia and Singer Davido.
 
 The former lovers are currently in court over the custody of their nine-year-old daughter, Imade.
 
Davido recently filed a suit against Sophia demanding that they share joint custody of their daughter, a decision Sophia is against and has filed a counter-suit.
 
Momodu in a post on his official handles on Saturday July 6, disclosed that the court has referred between Davido and Sophia for possible settlement by the alternative dispute resolution, ADR.

Shehu Sani, a former Senator, has claimed that security challenges in northern Nigeria were worse under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari than under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
 
Senator Sani made this statement during the 40th anniversary and reunion of the ‘84 set of Kagara Old Boys Association, composed of alumni from Government Science College, Kagara, in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
 
The event took place at Ahmadu Bahago Secondary School in Minna. Sani  emphasized that security issues could be resolved if the government demonstrated genuine commitment.

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi, has said that the cause of the cholera outbreak in the state is yet to be identified.

Akin Abayomi who gave an update on Saturday, June 22, said new cases were recorded as of 20th June 2024, 24 hours after the state announced an increase in deaths recorded from the disease.

Infographics revealed that cases were reported from Agege, Badagry, Ikeja, Mushin, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Epe, Ikorodu, Ojo, Alimosho, and Eti-Osa, Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Amuwo-Odofin, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos Island, Shomolu, Apapa, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos Mainland, and Surulere.

Akin said the Emergency Operations Centre, in collaboration with all relevant partners, is actively engaged in contact tracing, community-based surveillance, awareness campaigns, sample testing, and ensuring that confirmed cholera cases receive appropriate medical treatment.

On the cause of the cholera outbreak, Abayomi said;

“We have not been able to identify and batch of locally made beverages that contain the cholera bacteria as of now, but we are still searching.”

Mile 12 market chair links high cost of tomato and pepper to Insecurity and others

The Chairman of the Mile 12 International Market in Lagos, Shehu Usman Jubrin, says the recent high cost of tomato, pepper, and other perishable items is a result of widespread insecurity in the country and other factors.

The prices of the perishables have tripled, raising concerns among Nigerians.

In a chat with Channels TV this morning June 17, Usman said the insecurity in the north is a major factor for the hike in the cost of the items.

The Federal Government has increased its offer of a new national minimum wage to N62,000, while organized labour has reduced its demand from N494,000 to N250,000.

The Tripartite Committee on New National Minimum Wage met today and adjourned its meeting as there was no consensus reached.

The organized private sector also backed the government’s offer of N62,000.

President Bola Tinubu has said that his administration has in the last 12 months stopped the “bleeding” experienced across the country. 
 
Tinubu, who said this while receiving a delegation of the Yoruba Leaders of Thought at the State House on Friday, May 24, also emphasized that governance must be transformative and address citizens’ critical needs.
 
While thanking the delegation of eminent Nigerians, President Tinubu urged continuous support for and faith in Nigeria, assuring them that his government would live up to expectations. He added;
 
“I can tell you that Nigeria is no longer printing paper money and deceiving itself that it has a base for survival. Nigeria went through terrible labour pains, but we have seen the baby coming out alive.”

Cassie’s husband, Alex Fine, is speaking out after a video of Sean “Diddy” Combs physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend surfaced online.

“I want my kids and every kid to live in a world that’s safe for women and girls, protects them and treats them as equals,” Fine, 31, wrote via Instagram on Friday, May 17. “To the women and children, you’re not alone, and you are heard. if you need help call the domestic violence hotline at (800) 799-7233.”

The model proceeded to share a “letter to women and children” he wrote “awhile back, but the words ring true not just today but everyday.

“Men who hit women aren’t men. Men who enable it and protect these people aren’t men,” the letter stated. “As men, violence against women shouldn’t be inevitable, check your brothers, your friends and your family. Our daughters, sisters, mothers and wives should feel protected and loved. Hold the women in your life with the upmost regard. Men who hurt women hate women.”

Before marrying Fine, Cassie dated Diddy, 54, on and off for 11 years. In November 2023, she settled a lawsuit that accused her ex-boyfriend of sexual assault and abuse. At the time, Diddy’s lawyer, Ben Brafman, said that the settlement did not indicate that Diddy was guilty.

Diddy and Cassie’s relationship was put back in the spotlight on Friday when CNN released security footage from 2016 that reportedly shows the music mogul grabbing, shoving, dragging and kicking his then-girlfriend

The 2024 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) was held last night at Eko hotel and suites and the event recognized some outstanding performances in television, film, and entertainment.

‘Breath of Life’ was the biggest winner of the night, winning in six categories which includes ‘Best Lead Actor’, ‘Best Supporting Actor’, ‘Best Supporting Actress’, ‘Best Director’, ‘Best Sound Design’ and ‘Best Movie’.

Kehinde Bankole won the ‘Best Lead Actress’ category, while Wale Ojo won the ‘Best Lead Actor’ category for their roles in Adire and ‘Breath of Life’ respectively.

A new report has revealed that only about 21 per cent of Nigerian households are food secure.

This was revealed in the National Food
Consumption and Micronutrients Survey report launched in Abuja by the Federal government in collaboration with foreign partners and other stakeholders in the food sector.

The report also shows that 59 per cent of Nigerians are moderately food insecure and another 20 per cent are severely food insecure.

He explained that the report focused on women in their productive age, children from 0-59 months and girls in their adolescent years.

On the issue of hygiene, he said about 23 percent of households in Nigeria are not having toilet facility facilities.

Further breakdown of the report indicates that 62.9% of households in Nigeria within the period under review have access to improved water sources and another 42.6% have access to borehole water systems, while 17.40% of households have access to protective well water.

Also, the report says 1.1% of households have water piped into access to pipe-borne water.

On the geo-political level, it was shown that South East and South South zones had the lowest percentage of pipe-borne water and the highest borehole access whereas the Western and Northern regions fare better followed by South South geo-political zones.
