Bill Gates, who built Microsoft MSFT into the most powerful company in the world and in the process became the world's richest person, announced today that he is stepping down as chief executive officer to concentrate on software strategy.

Steve Ballmer, Gates' former college classmate and long-time right-hand man, was named to replace him in the top job at the world's largest maker of PC software, adding the position to his current title of president. Ballmer also will join Microsoft's board of directors.

Gates, 44, said he will remain as chairman of Redmond, Wash., Microsoft, while also taking the title of the chief software architect. He said his new role "will allow me to spend almost 100% of my time on new software technologies. It's an exciting evolution for me and a very good transition for the company.

"Although I've been able to spend more time on our technical strategy since naming Steve as president in July 1998, I felt that the opportunities for Microsoft were incredible, yet our structure wasn't optimal to really take advantage of them to the degree that we should," Gates said.

Gates' surprise announcement comes as Microsoft faces a possible move by the government to break the company up into two or more pieces as a result of a recent antitrust trial.

It was uncertain what would happen to the management of Microsoft, including Gates and Ballmer if that happens.

Analysts conjectured that Gates may have grown weary of Microsoft's prolonged battle with the Justice Department, which accused the company of using its monopoly on operating systems to control the market for desktop software. Microsoft Windows runs nine of every ten PCs in the world.

"The DOJ [Deparment of Justice] action took all the fun out of the job, and Gates wants to go out on a high point rather than a low point," said analyst Rob Enderle of Giga Information Group.

Microsoft's stock dropped $4 in after-hours trading following Gates' announcement, suggesting that investors think a change at the top might hurt the company. During the regular session the shares gained $2 to $107.81.

Ballmer, 43, said he was "very excited and very honoured," to have been tabbed to head the software behemoth, whose market value of nearly $558 billion is the most of any public company. He said his job will be to transform the company around new software geared toward the Internet and the next generation of Windows services.

Gates and Ballmer have known each other since 1973 when both were students at Harvard.

Gates co-founded Microsoft in 1975, and Ballmer joined the company in 1980. He has held several positions in Redmond, where he has earned a reputation as a tireless cheerleader and evangelist for new products.

As of today, Gates' personal wealth was estimated at nearly $85 billion, nearly all of it in Microsoft stock. Ballmer's Microsoft holdings are worth almost $26 billion.

In addition to focusing on new Microsoft products, Gates is expected to devote more time to pet projects, including modelling the human brain, as well as to the charitable foundation that he runs with his wife, Melinda.

Irish Police ‘Gardaí’ Shut Down Naira Marley’s show in Dublin, Ireland [DETAILS]

Embattled Nigerian Artiste who made news recently after being arrested and detained by the EFCC for Internet fraud in Nigeria has once again found himself in the news relating with crime and officers of the law.


The Nigerian Artiste was scheduled to headline and perform at a Dublin Gig at Lost Lane in Grafton Street on Saturday the 6th of July 2019; 

He arrived at the Dublin Airport at around 13:00 According to a post seen on his Snapchat Story. But he was unable to perform as the show was shut down by the Irish Police' Gardai' after a gang of youths was spotted fleeing the scene.

There were reports about a video showing 30 young men running out of the premises in the early hours of Sunday morning which left everyone at the adjoining bar puzzled and prompted some of them to alert the police.

The Gardai Later came to close the scene, driving everyone out of the Club to secure the location, The gardai have since confirmed that several weapons have been seized and a man in his 20's arrested in connection with the incident.

According to Eye Witness at the scene, 'the gardai arrived at the scene and "drove everyone out" before shutting the showdown.

"People were waiting for the artist to perform when all of a sudden gardai came to the venue, drove everyone out and shut it down.

"They [the crowd] filled the street around the venue confused as to where to go and some [were] angry at the organizers asking for a refund."

According to the Gardai, Investigations are ongoing.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardai are investigating an incident where a large number of male youths congregated outside premises on Adam Court, Dublin 2 at approximately 1 am on the 7th of July 2019.

"A number of offensive weapons were located after the youths departed and were seized by Gardaí. One male in his early 20s was arrested and was charged in relation to this offence. Investigations are ongoing."

Social media platform Instagram was down across several countries around the world.

People were prevented from posting pictures of their breakfast on Wednesday after Instagram went down for about an hour.

Its app displayed the Instagram name and icons at the bottom but the rest of the page was blank.

On the website, there was just a white page with "555 Access Error" on the top right-hand corner.

Facebook Inc, which owns the picture sharing platform, was not immediately available for comment.

The organisers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) have announced October 20 as the new date for the hosting of the continental awards for film makers in Africa and in the Diaspora. The awards was earlier scheduled to hold on September 22 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The shift in date according to the Director of Administration, Mr. Tony Anih is to enable the host country and the organisers sort out the huge logistics involved in hosting a global event as the AMAA's.

It will be recalled that the Academy Board of International jurors recently announced nominations into various categories of the awards. The nomination announcement held at the Wheatbaker Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Over 500 films were entered for this edition of the awards which had been staged to critical acclaims for 14 years according to Shaibu Husseini, Chairman of the AMAA Selection Committee.

The 14th edition of the AMAAs will hold in Kigali, Rwanda and it is being supported by the Rwanda Convention Bureau, Rwandair, Rwanda Development Board, The Radisson Blu Hotel and the Kigali Convention Centre.

The Africa Movie Academy Awards has released the nomination list for 2018.

The nominees were unveiled on Friday night at a nomination announcement event in Lagos, hosted by the former beauty queen, Munachi Abii, and actor, Enyinnaya Nwigwe.

Actresses like Kate Henshaw, Rahama Sadau, Dakore Egbuson-Dakore and others were nominated in different categories of the award.

Speaking further, the Secretary of the Advisory Council of the Association, Comrade Tijani Saheed Oluwadare opined that the awardee deserved the award for her immense contribution to youths empowerment in the local government area.

" We have been monitoring her contributions to the development of humanity since her days at the Lagos State House of Assembly."

The Executive Chairman congratulated the awardee, stressing that " she needs to continue with her humanitarian works because her good deeds would speak for her and this is part of the result."

Hon. Adegeye on her part thanked the Association for giving her such a noble award and for preserving Yoruba culture and heritage

The House of Representatives aspirant further thanked the Executive Chairman for providing the enabling environment for people like her to continue her good deeds in the community.

She promised not to rest on her oars, as she continues to assist and contribute her own quota to the development of the local government area.

The aspirant further averred that she would continue to preserve the Yoruba culture always.

She said: “The challenge before all of us present here is to ensure that we take our culture to the point where other clans would respect us for who we are and not what we have been made to become".

Minister of Health in South Africa Mr. Aaron Motsoaledi revealed on Monday afternoon that the reason why most South African women fall pregnant is because they engage in s*xual intercourse.


“I have just learned that if a woman  sleeps with a man, she is likely to fall pregnant. If we knew this a long time ago, we wouldn’t be having so many unplanned babies. Cassidy’s career was just beginning to peak when he dropped his Billboard chart-topper “I’m a Hustler” in 2005. But the success from the lead single and his sophomore album of the same title would be overshadowed by his June 17 arrest. The rapper was arrested in his hometown of Philadelphia on charges of murder, attempted murder, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, conspiracy and weapons possession for an April shooting that left Desmond Hawkins dead and another man injured. The “Hotel” rhymer was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault, in addition to possession of an instrument of crime and sentenced to 11-and-a-half to 23 months in jail. His former friend, fellow rapper Ar-Ab, claims he actually killed Hawkins and Cassidy “never caught a body.”


Gucci Mane


Gucci Mane has been arrested almost as many times as he has released a mixtape or an album. His jail stints range from convictions for illegal firearms to drugs, but one of his more shocking arrests comes from killing a man in self-defense. In 2006, Gucci managed to avoid a murder trial for the 2005 shooting death of Young Jeezy’s friend Henry “Pookie Loc” Clark III. Five men reportedly attacked Guwop while he was at a friend’s apartment in Decatur, Ga. According to witnesses, a scuffle between the Trap House creator and the men ensued and shots were fired. Gucci claimed self-defense and prosecutors agreed, dropping the charges. Unfortunately, that didn’t keep him out of jail, where he Sat until 2016.
