Politics / Customs Didn’t Seize Any Vehicle From Me—kano Senator by davezzy: 9:52am On Mar 29, 2017
THE Senator representing Kano North, Kano State, Jibrin Barau, has denied the allegation that the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, seized 13 vehicles from his residence.

Bala Dole, Zonal Commander of Customs task force, had said some vehicles were trailed from Maigatari in Jigawa, following an intelligence report. “Based on the intelligence report— the vehicles were 30— we were able to trail 13 of them, 12 of which were hidden in the Senator’s compound,” said Dole, who refused to disclose the identity of the Senator. “We sealed the house and retrieved the vehicles and they are now in our custody.” But speaking on the floor of the Senate, yesterday, Barau claimed that the said seizure never happened, and appealed to his colleagues to wade into the matter. He said:

“I woke up this morning (yesterday) and saw a headline that 13 Hillux vehicles, for which duty has not been paid, were found in my residence, and that my house was sealed.

This never happened. “I was with my constituents in my house and no Hillux vehicle was in my house. This is terrible; this is bad for democracy. ““My privilege has been abused and I feel very sad. I am wondering why this is coming at this time. This is very sad and I call on the Senate to wade into this matter.” The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, referred the matter to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges.

Sports / Nigerian-british Boxer Wins Fight In 20 Seconds by davezzy: 9:44am On Mar 27, 2017
Nigerian-British boxer and Rio 2016 Olympian Lawrence Okolie took just 20 seconds to score a knockout win on his professional debut. The 24-year-old British cruiserweight who has a Nigerian parents caught compatriot Geoffrey Cave with two solid right hands.

The bout followed Anthony Crolla’s points defeat by Jorge Linares at Manchester Arena.

“Sorry to everyone that missed me fighting,” Okolie tweeted. “The good news is a Won by KO in 20 seconds!! Bad news is I’m back in the cage for now.” London-based Cave, 33, has now lost all three of his professional fights.

Okolie competed at heavyweight and lost to Cuban Erislandy Savon at the last-16 stage at the Rio Olympics.

He had boxed Savon once before and lost via a first-round stoppage, but at the second attempt he went the three-round distance with the Cuban who would eventually claim a bronze medal.

Savon had lost Nigerian born Anthony Joshua at the London 2012 which also inspired Okolie. Okolie had explained that the likes of Joshua lured him into boxing. “Before I started boxing properly I was working in McDonald’s, and I was watching the Olympics during my breaks whenever I could,” he told Sky Sports News HQ.

“It was the only thing to do! There was a particular break where Usain Bolt won the 100m then Anthony Joshua won gold. I felt something then. “It was really inspirational. I started putting more work into training, and believing it more.

” Okolie hopes to become a world champion within four years and is scheduled to fight on the undercard of Ricky Burns’ super-lightweight unification bout with Julius Indongo on April 15.
