Education / A Customer Journey And Engagement Research by davidkingsley59(m): 1:06am On Aug 12
Customer journeys have become the state-of-the-art concept for understanding customer behaviors in a customer-centric way (Jaakkola and Terho, 2021; Becker et al., 2020; Akaka and Schau, 2019). Customer journeys are commonly defined as a series of firm- or offering-related touchpoints that customers interact with during their purchase and usage processes (Becker and Jaakkola, 2020; Lemon and Verhoef, 2016; Patrício et al., 2011). Customer journey research explicates two key phenomena relevant to marketing: customers’ purchase behaviors (Anderl et al., 2016; Li and Kannan, 2014) and customer experiences that are formed along their purchase and usage processes (Lemon and Verhoef, 2016; Meyer and Schwager, 2007). Customer journeys can thus be a critical driver of firm performance, generating considerable interest among scholars and consultants in the study and management of journeys (e.g. Homburg and Tischer, 2023; Kuehnl et al., 2019; Edelman and Singer, 2015; Rawson et al., 2013).

However, scholars are increasingly viewing the current journey literature as narrowly focused, calling for a broader perspective (e.g. Hamilton and Price, 2019; Akaka and Schau, 2019; Becker et al., 2020; Pizzutti et al., 2022; Trujillo-Torres et al., 2024). We address two specific limitations of the existing research. First, existing journey research has typically focused on a customer’s path to purchase, building on consumer decision-making models (Følstad and Kvale, 2018; Lemon and Verhoef, 2016). This perspective neglects many aspects of journeys that have relevance for firms but that are not anchored to a purchase decision. In reference to services, touchpoints related to service delivery and usage are typically critical for customer satisfaction and firm performance, and these occur after a purchase decision has been made (Rawson et al., 2013; Voorhees et al., 2017; Jaakkola and Terho, 2021). Consider for example a stay in a hotel or the use of mobile telephone services; here, selecting the service provider is only the start of the process. Additionally, situations where customers influence the firm beyond purchase are overlooked. For example, engaged consumers can invest considerable resources in the development of the firm’s offerings (Jaakkola and Alexander, 2014) or act as influential advocates – or adversaries – for a brand without making any purchases (Azer et al., 2023). This represents a serious gap in journey research, where the notion of customers’ engagement value is increasingly being highlighted, rendering purchase volume an increasingly insufficient measure (Kumar et al., 2010; Venkatesan, 2017; Harmeling et al., 2017). Thus, there is a need for a conceptualization of the engagement journey that is not centered on purchases.

Second, while the increasingly social and emancipated nature of customer journeys has been widely acknowledged (Baxendale et al., 2015; Halvorsrud et al., 2016; Hamilton et al., 2021), existing studies have remained preoccupied with firm-controlled touchpoints (Lemon and Verhoef, 2016; Voorhees et al., 2017). Thus, existing journey research has devoted scant attention to touchpoints across new technologies, platforms, and channels beyond firm control that may significantly affect customer journeys (Hamilton and Price, 2019; Kuehnl et al., 2019; Akaka and Schau, 2019; Wider et al., 2018). Indeed, Review Trackers (2018) indicated that more than 60% of consumers explored online reviews before visiting a business, and 94% considered the reviews a deciding factor in convincing them to avoid a particular provider. Post-pandemic, interactions with reviews have increased by up to 50% from pre-pandemic levels (Review Trackers, 2022). Thus, touchpoints where customers interact with each other are often critical in determining the direction or continuation of a customer journey with a provider, and these effects can spread rapidly in customer networks, fueled by the actions of engaged individuals (cf. Azer and Alexander, 2018).

In sum, the full spectrum of relevant customer insights cannot be captured via traditional purchase journey analysis, and perhaps the most important customer journeys remain poorly understood. To address these gaps, the purpose of this study is to develop the concept of engagement journeys and discuss their implications for journey design and management. We draw on customer engagement research, which explicates customer behaviors that relate to the firm but occur outside its direct influence (Brodie et al., 2011; Jaakkola and Alexander, 2014; Vivek et al., 2012). Engagement is inherently customer-driven, often exogenous to the firm and interactive in nature, accounting for behaviors at touchpoints beyond a firm’s control and for how customer journeys affect each other (Azer et al., 2023). Engagement is defined here as a “dynamic and iterative process that reflects actors’ dispositions to invest resources in their interactions with other connected actors in a service system” (Brodie et al., 2019, p. 2).
This study proposes a novel conceptualization of the engagement journey that breaks free from the purchase decision-making process. We conceptualize an engagement journey as the customer’s process of diverse brand-related resource investments in interactions with the brand/firm and/or other customers, reflecting the customer’s cognitive, emotional, and behavioral disposition. Despite the proliferation of both journey and engagement research, very few studies have considered the link between these concepts. For customer journey research, the present study offers a novel conceptualization of the journey that is applicable beyond the prevalent purchase decision-making focus and can account for thus far overlooked aspects, such as non-purchase journeys and the role of brand-related interactions in customer-owned and social or external touchpoints. We also outline how current views of journey management need to be renewed to account for engaged customers. For engagement research, this study offers insights into how the dynamic process of engagement can appear and how engagement journeys should be considered in firms’ engagement marketing efforts.

The study proceeds as follows. The next section reviews state-of-the-art research on customer journeys. Then we review the engagement research to identify existing insights into customer engagement and its manifestations, which offers implications for journey research. The subsequent section synthesizes insights from the customer journey and engagement literature by analyzing how engagement manifests across different types of touchpoints, resulting in a conceptualization of the engagement journey. These insights are discussed in relation to the current journey management orthodoxy to pinpoint the implications engagement journeys have on our current assumptions of journey management. Finally, we discuss the contributions and implications of this analysis for research and managerial practice.

Business / Constructing Knowledge Structure Of Customer Engagement: A Multimethod Review by davidkingsley59(m): 10:25am On Aug 11
Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to perform the bibliometric analysis of the customer engagement (CE) literature, highlights the major research themes and classifies the subdomains. The study also identifies antecedents and consequences, as well as dimension evolution, and suggests future research directions.

Design/methodology/approach
This study used a comprehensive bibliometric approach using Scopus data from 2002 to January 2024. Advanced analytical techniques, including bibliometric and cocitation analysis using R and bibexcel, were used. In addition, machine learning (ML)-based Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) was used to extract latent themes.

Findings
This study reveals the domain’s past trend and present research scenario. The thematic analysis of CE is classified into three phases. Document cocitation analysis provided four broad clusters: conceptualization and operationalization, value creation through engagement, building relationships with brands and engagement-social media interface. The antecedents and consequences are categorized and presented along with the evolution of the multidimensional nature of CE.

Originality/value
This study adds to the literature in two keyways. First, the entire scholarly production has been compiled into one frame. Second, multiple methods were used to unravel citation, cocitation and textual data. Furthermore, ML-based LDA was used to extract latent themes from clusters and future research directions were proposed.
Family / The Embedding Of Practical Barriers To Effective Corporate Social Responsibility by davidkingsley59(m): 12:26pm On Aug 03
ABSTRACT
PURPOSE
This paper aims to identify and analyze the neoliberal, Anglo-American corporate governance mechanisms which embed shareholder value in Nigeria and assess how they constitute major “practical barriers” to effective corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the country. While some of these mechanisms operate internally – performance-related pay (executive remuneration) – the use of non-executive directors – others operate externally – the markets for corporate control and the stock markets.

DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH
The paper adopts the doctrinal approach through a critical evaluation of concepts. Using existing literature in the subject area, it evaluates the nature of these mechanisms and argues that their operations amount to “practical barriers” to effective CSR in the country.

FINDINGS
The paper finds that the existence of these mechanisms incentivizes corporate managers to maximize shareholder value and raise the share price of corporations as high as possible. It also leads to the financialization of corporate governance, rent seeking and the pursuit of short-term profits by corporations. In this context, within the Nigerian corporate governance framework, the existence and operations of these mechanisms amount to “practical barriers” to effective CSR.

ORIGINALITY/VALUE
The paper offers a fresh insight into the existence and operations of the neoliberal corporate governance mechanisms which embed shareholder value. By critically assessing the operations of these mechanisms in the Nigerian situation, it extends the body of knowledge in this area by showing how they amount to practical barriers to effective CSR in the country.

The Development and Current Trends in Digital Marketing and Relationship Marketing Research

Abstract

New information and communication technologies have transformed the ways businesses communicate and maintain relationships with their customers. In this chapter, we review the main topics in academic research pertaining to digital marketing and relationship perspectives. The discussion involves email and website marketing, search engine marketing, user-generated content, co-creation marketing, social media marketing, prosumption marketing in the sharing economy, immersive marketing and AI-based marketing. On this basis, the chapter proposes some future research directions including influencer marketing, live streaming, social service enhancement and the dark side of social media marketing, consumer-to-consumer interactions on two-sided platforms, psychological mechanisms related to the use of mixed realities, and the experience of AI-enabled service automation and relevant ethical issues. Furthermore, emerging technologies such as the Internet of things (IoT) and blockchain are expected to be the next breakthrough in marketing, which warrant further research to examine their impact on the customer-firm relationship. It is suggested the researchers could focus on the adoption and application of blockchain technology, participative marketing via IoT, as well as the privacy and data protection issues related to these technologies. This chapter provides a comprehensive picture of the connection between digital marketing and relationship marketing in academic research.

Education / Effective Teaching And Successful Learning: Bridging The Gap by davidkingsley59(m): 3:38pm On Jul 19
Effective Teaching and Successful Learning: Bridging the Gap between Research and Practice

There’s a Chinese proverb that says, “Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand.”

Schools that are most successful in producing work-ready graduates are those that involve them, or those that encompass professional development along with their academic coursework. This means rather than just research, presentations and publications, students are encouraged to make connections in industry through work placements, visiting speakers, cross-disciplinary learning, and being exposed to society at large via an international outlook or community engagement.

Classrooms in the 21st century have by law become inclusive, typically comprised of general education and special needs students. Included students are those who present with mild to moderate learning and behavioral challenges. They add another layer of complexity to classroom management, requiring teachers to be highly structured, consistent and reinforcing. Teacher fidelity to behavioral expectations that have been established for the classroom is essential. Classroom management strategies discussed include changing the teacher approval to disapproval ratio, using selective ignoring, focusing on structure and routine, increasing student locus of control, de-escalating student aggression and hostility, and limiting the use of punishment. Hands-on strategies are highlighted.

Effective Teaching and Successful Learning: Bridging the Gap between Research and Practice explores how educators can combine professional and academic practice to improve teaching and learning. Highlights from the book include:
* Debate on the effect of class size on students' academic performance.
* Class management and large class size.
* Strategies to managing large class size
* Perspectives on classroom management, class size, and students’ academic performance.
* The link between professional and academic practice in education.
* Combining professional development with academia.
* Reflecting on the effect of large class size on students’ academic performance.
* Experience from managing large classrooms.

Family / Managing Large Class Size And The Effects On Students' Performance by davidkingsley59(m): 2:02pm On Jul 19
Large classes are unlikely to disappear given the financial pressures that most institutions face in the USA (Maringe & Sing, 2014). However, large classes are associated with challenges in delivering high-quality and equitable learning opportunities (Bligh, 2002). For example, students in large classes do not have the same opportunities to interact with the teacher compared to students in small classes (Maringe & Sing, 2014). To offer large classes without sacrificing quality of education, educators must understand how and why class sizes influence student engagement behaviors and educational outcomes.

For all class sizes, this study found student involvement as the most influential academic engagement behavior and teacher interaction as the most influential social engagement behavior for positive educational outcomes. In addition, students only perceived teacher supportiveness more positively in small classes with no differences for other engagement behaviors. In terms of educational outcomes, this research found negative effects on student satisfaction in large classes, but no differences on course grade, knowledge and communication learning outcomes in large and small classes. Despite of the mixed effects of class sizes, the study reveals that in the large classes, students may perceive a lower level of teacher interactions and satisfaction. It raises critical concerns as teacher interaction was found as the most influential driver for all subjective educational outcomes. Given that student satisfaction is a key component of student and institutional success (Santini et al., 2017), educators must develop strategies to enhance teacher interactions and satisfaction in large classes to maintain and enhance the quality of education and student success.
Practical implications

Because teacher interaction is the most influential factor for student satisfaction, business schools may consider allocating technology resources to support a more interactive learning environment in large classes. For example, the use of a student response systems (SRS), such as clickers or Poll Everywhere, has become more popular. Heaslip et al. (2014) found that students in large classes became more engaged and involved when clickers were in use. In addition, SRS enable students to have more equal opportunities to interact with the teacher easily and efficiently.

Choosing educational outcomes that accurately measures learning objectives is critical to monitor and improve education quality. Educational outcomes should reflect what the program wants the students to know and be able to do. For example, this study included a communication student learning outcome because it was assessed as part of AACSB AOL process. The results found that the communication learning outcome is associated with student participation and peer interaction. Thus, when a course focuses on communication goals, faculty should create more opportunities for student participation and peer interaction in course design. For example, in large classes, SRS allow students to participate in class discussion and also to see other students’ responses. Additionally, as peer interaction in a small class is stronger on communication outcome than that in a large class, a small class is a better choice for a course focusing on communication skills.

Different educational outcomes may involve different student learning and social behaviors in the classroom, whereas class size may not influence all these behaviors. What educational outcomes do schools expect for students? If, for example, student satisfaction is the key educational outcome, then our study suggests that large class sizes should not be used. On the other hand, if course grade is the key educational outcome, both large and small classes will work as grade differences are not related to class size.

RESEARCH IMPLICATIONS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH

While the extant literature focuses on academic performance as the primary learning outcome, this study shifted to a “student-centered” perspective and added three measures of subjective educational outcomes – student satisfaction and the perceived SLOs for knowledge and communication skills – to transcend the usual academic performance outcomes. As schools use AOL results for continuous improvement, educators should consider a broader set of educational outcomes.

There have been tremendous changes in the modality of course delivery in higher education since the covid pandemic. Drea (2021) notes that higher education is unlikely to fully return to pre-COVID-19 course delivery models, as students have now experienced the intensive integration of technology into their courses, and this has likely reset their expectations for the future. There are a variety of course delivery formats emerging since the pandemic. Educators must understand whether a change of modality of content delivery has an impact on quality. The current study recognized the importance of both academic and social engagements in student learning. It may offer a groundwork to investigate how student engagements influent their learning outcomes in different delivery formats, such as online, hybrid, synchronous online or asynchronous online.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

Because this study was conducted in a face-to-face classroom setting, the results cannot be generalized to different learning environments, such as online or hybrid. Similarly, the results are not generalizable across all types of higher education institutions because it was conducted at one university. In addition, the results are limited to introductory business courses and do not include advanced courses that require higher-order thinking and analytical skills. Finally, the sample included only undergraduate students and does not consider age as a salient factor when considering effects on classroom processes (Blatchford et al., 2009).
Conclusions

Many schools use large classes to respond to shrinking resources. This study contributes to the existing literature by showing how and why class sizes influence student engagement behaviors and educational outcomes other than academic performance. Student involvement and teacher interaction are found as influential factors on student learning outcomes and satisfaction regardless of class sizes. However, the study results indicate students perceive lower levels of teacher interaction and satisfaction in larger classes. In conclusion, to offer large classes without sacrificing quality of education, we suggest faculty creating more opportunities to encourage more student–teacher interactions, such as using SRS technologies.

Family / Student Behaviors, Class Management, And Pedagogical Outcomes by davidkingsley59(m): 10:40am On Jul 19
RESEARCH HYPOTHESES

In terms of academic engagement (Finn et al., 2003), this study uses student attentiveness, involvement and class participation as the student learning behaviors. Student attentiveness refers to concentration in the learning process (Blatchford et al., 2009) and may be adversely impacted by disruptive behavior of students or poor classroom management, which may be more likely in large class environments (Leufer, 2007; Wulff et al., 1987). Thus, the larger the class size, the greater the potential for distraction.

H1.
Student attentiveness level will be higher in small classes than in large classes.

Involvement is a motivational construct. In the context of advertising, Zaichkowsky (1994) defines advertising involvement as an individual’s perception of the relevance of the advertisement’s message based on inherent needs, values and interests. Following this logic, student involvement with the course is defined as the extent to which a student perceives the relevance of the course subject based on inherent needs, values and interests. Wulff et al. (1987) found that students in larger classes reported lower involvement:

H2.
Student involvement level with the course will be higher in small classes than in large classes.

Weaver and Qi (2005) define classroom participation as students’ remarks or questions directed toward the instructor. Bai and Change (2016) found that students in larger classes have lower levels of class participation than in smaller classes. Large classes allow students to have a passive role in class, which may decrease the likelihood of initiating and responding to the teacher (Blatchford et al., 2009). Weaver and Qi (2005) note that large classes permit greater anonymity and enable students to seat themselves at the periphery of the classroom, thereby facilitating the strategic withdrawal of the majority. Thus:

H3.
Student class participation level will be higher in small classes than in large classes.

Finn et al. (2003) refer to student social behaviors such as interaction with peers and teachers in the classroom as social engagement. Although social engagement encompasses both prosocial and antisocial behaviors, this study focuses only on prosocial behaviors and positive interactions. Class size has the potential to affect how students interact with each other (Ehrenberg et al., 2001), and peer interaction may influence student learning outcomes (SLOs) as much as interaction with teachers (Alderman, 2008). Social behavior in small classes is generally more positive than in larger classes (Blatchford, et al., 2009). Students in small classes are less likely to be disruptive due to easier class management. Also, larger classes decrease classmate supportiveness and prosocial interactions (Bai and Chang, 2016). Thus:

H4.
Student interaction with classmates will be higher in small classes than in large classes.

Class size may also influence teachers’ interpersonal styles, which in turn may affect their interactions with the students (Finn et al., 2003). For example, class size impacts how much time an instructor devotes to understanding and addressing the needs and interests of individual students (Ehrenberg et al., 2001). Current research uses teacher encouragement and teacher supportiveness to represent the quality of student–teacher interactions. Teacher encouragement refers to an instructor’s tendency to encourage more class participation by communicating to the entire class as well as by communicating directly with individual students (Fassinger, 1995). With increased interactions between students and teachers in small classes, students may perceive higher levels of teacher encouragement, compared to fewer interactions in large classes. Thus:

H5.
Student perception of teacher encouragement will be higher in small classes than in large classes.

Student perception of an instructor’s supportiveness is also salient. Teacher supportiveness refers to the extent to which a student feels respected by an instructor and/or receives individual attention from them (Fassinger, 1995). A teacher may distribute time more equitably in a small class than in a large class and may have more opportunities to pay attention to individual needs and to support individual students (Blatchford et al., 2009). Thus:

H6.
Student perception of teacher supportiveness will be higher in small classes than in large classes.

Learning behaviors and social behaviors contribute to student academic achievement (Finn et al., 2003). In addition, the research discussed above demonstrates that class sizes affect student academic performance. Accordingly,

H7.
The factors affecting student academic performance may include attentiveness, involvement, class participation, interaction with classmates, perception of teacher encouragement, perception of teacher supportiveness and class size.

Many educators argue for the diversification of assessment methods in higher education (Maringe & Sing, 2014). Maher (2004) advocates the use of learning outcomes that focus attention directly on the activities and achievements of students, rather than simply on teaching the curriculum content. According to AACSB, learning goals should reflect broad educational expectations for each degree program. At the university in which this study was conducted, business knowledge and communication skills are key SLOs. As student perception of learning reflects how students evaluate their learning experience at the end of the semester, all classroom activities, processes, social behaviors and class size are involved. Therefore,

H8.
The factors affecting the student perceived learning outcome of business knowledge may include attentiveness, involvement, class participation, interaction with classmates, perception of teacher encouragement, perception of teacher supportiveness and class size.

H9.
The factors affecting the student perceived learning outcome of communication skills may include attentiveness, involvement, class participation, interaction with classmates, perception of teacher encouragement, perception of teacher supportiveness and class size

Pedagogical researchers have applied the construct of satisfaction to the educational setting, recognizing the need to monitor student satisfaction as a means of assessing the overall performance of higher education institutions (Martirosyan, 2015). Santini et al. (2017) found student satisfaction in higher education as a significant impact on consequent outcomes for the success of student and institutions, such as attitude toward the institution, intention to recommend, involvement loyalty, trust and word-of-mouth. Due to its importance, student satisfaction is added as an educational outcome in this study. Thus,

H10.
The factors affecting student satisfaction may include attentiveness, involvement, class participation, interaction with classmates, perception of teacher encouragement, perception of teacher supportiveness and class size.

Class size, student behaviors and educational outcomes: Theoretical background and conceptual model

THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
Although business schools typically consider class size a factor in determining teaching loads, there is no accepted definition of a large class. Mateo and Fernandez (1996) propose a numerical taxonomy. For example, a large class contains between 60 and 149 students. Maringe and Sing (2014) define large class size qualitatively as “any class where the number of students poses both perceived and real challenges in the delivery of quality and equal learning opportunities to all students in the classroom” (p. 763). In practice, class size norms vary greatly across institutions and disciplines, with some business schools considering sections of 25–35 students to be small and between 200 and 350 to be large (Raimondo et al., 1990).

CONCEPTUAL MODEL
Finn et al. (2003) suggest student academic achievement is influenced by a combination of academic and social engagement in the learning process. Academic engagement refers to student learning behaviors related directly to the learning process, such as class participation. Social engagement is student social interactions with classmates and the instructor. Using group theory, Finn et al. (2003) argue that students in small classes are more visible and more likely to engage in learning and social behaviors during class.

Conversely, large classes permit students to reduce their visibility. Also, smaller classes encourage participation or interaction as students may receive more support from classmates. Because social and academic interactions are the focal point of the higher education, these classroom dynamics are critical to positive learning outcomes (Demaris and Kritsonis, 2008).

Blatchford et al. (2009) suggest that a negative relationship exists between class size and classroom processes. Class size differences may impact classroom processes, which in turn influence student attentiveness and active involvement with teachers and peers. Teachers in small classes are more likely to give individual attention to students, effectively control and manage the classroom and build better relationships with students. Similarly, students in small classes may be more engaged in classroom and more likely to interact with teachers and peers (Blatchford et al., 2009).

Consistent with Finn et al. (2003) and Blatchford et al. (2009), this study proposes a research model in Figure 1 suggesting how class size affects student learning and social behaviors, as well as learning outcomes. It includes perceived learning outcomes and satisfaction as additional educational outcomes.

ABSTRACT
Higher education has recently experienced an advancement in teaching and learning methods. Academics are experimenting with innovative techniques in using e-learning due to the global pandemic which has given a new dimension to classroom teaching. Hybrid teaching is becoming the new norm for classroom teaching which includes both face-to-face and online modes. Smart gadgets and technology are being used to design classroom delivery, assessment, and evaluation of students. The use of innovative teaching and learning methods becomes crucial to motivate and teach a spirit of learning. The development in the information and communication technologies (ICTs) sector has led to knowledge-intensive, interdependent and internationalized societies exploring and experimenting with opportunities for the design and delivery of education. ICTs are opening up new horizons to facilitate the exchange of creativity and intercultural dialogue. This book volume highlights case studies and innovative teaching methods used by academics across the globe. It talks about how teaching staff should stimulate students’ active engagement in their own learning processes leading to transformative student learning. It discusses the in-class approach of implementing high-quality project-based learning activities that integrate learning in an authentic real-world manner. Chapters are dedicated to experiential learning which encourages critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills in students which is the essence of innovative teaching-learning methods. Academics are applying these methods to ensure that the student learning process is free flowing and stimulates students toward role-playing and mastering problem-based learning.

Sadly, many men in this ‘loveless’ category truly love their women but only lack means to express that affection or love.

Men are creatures of love naturally hence God even said “husband love your wives”. In history we record men dying for love since its their nature to give in love but at times we fail to show that love. Here are some ways you can show her love:

Presence

Dear men, be present in your woman’s life if you truly loves her. Be present in her life. Show up in times of need and pain, even in times of joy and happiness. The void you create in good or bad times raises concern of care and support. Just be present. Be available always.

Passion

If you trully love your woman then show some passion, not mere interest in her as a friend, lover, or wife. Be passionate about her life progress; career, health, dreams and more in your conversations. Physical affection isn’t passion. Passion simply entails showing keen interest in everything about her at all times. Stop behaving like you are forced to he with her.

Publicity

If you want to show how much you love your women then embrace her publicly, let your world see you post her pics on Facebook; set them as status; use her as screen saver; walk with her in open public spaces. Women feel more appreciated when they are not hidden.

Partnership

If you want her to see your love then allow her to be your partner. Create an inter-dependent relationship with her. Even if you know you can do some things alone and without her permission, you should still ask for her support/consent/approval and allow her shape your world a bit. She’ll be forever grateful for that love, respect, and privilege. Allow her to choose some clothes for you; decide your life to an extent; determine this and that. Give her that power in your life to make her feel useful and loved.

Privacy

Every man loves his privacy so much, but that privacy destroys intimacy with women. It’s best for you to pen your world a little bit for her to see into it. Let her know your source of income; your past life; your nicknames; your life before her; your this and that few you call private.

Promotion

Any man who claims to love any woman must dare to promote her to a level of a wife or even certain amount of commitment towards her. Your love cannot be seen by your woman if you still have her at the bottom of your life like footnote reference in a paragraph. If you love it put a ring on it (I will write more on it).

Power

At times women fight for power that they fight for anything. Women feel less loved especially when they have no power in the relationship. Give her power to decide some things in your life. It’s clear that your love can be hidden and held back by power struggle. Give your woman some power to see how much you love and trust her with that power.

Pampering

One of the things men fail to keep up with is the idea of pampering their women. Women see no love when they are not given things they love and enjoy for their pleasure. Women can be pampered differently depending on their preferences according to their love language (5 Love Languages by Dr Gary Chapman). Find a way to pamper your woman. Get to know how to spoil her rotten.

Prayer

Our love has to be based on activity beyond physical more. Our spiritual journey has to build and grow our love. Men must introduce and facilitate his woman to his spiritual journey. Our women feel less loved because all they see is the physical molecule impediment of love which can be both ways than inner spiritual intimacy that creates companionship in life.

#Remember: Love shows in a mysterious ways and it conquers everything. But Love defined by Saint Paul that is patient, kind, and Not Jealous..So, to all Husbands, let’s do our very best to love our Wives as we fulfill Gods remarkable admonition: ‘Husbands, love your wives.’.God bless us all

Education / What Are The Roles Of Educational Institutions? by davidkingsley59(m): 8:32pm On Feb 25
SCHOOL FUNCTIONS

Idealist philosophers, such as Plato, Augustine, Descartes, Berkeley, Hume, Kant, Hegel, and Royce had a tremendous impact on the notion of schools as a means of promoting knowledge and preserving social norms and values [14]. School functions are based on idealistic educational beliefs about observing schools as miniature societies that must provide students with stability and sincere learning experiences by teaching them a democratic way of life with ethical and moral values [18]. Schools are homes where ideas are verified, implemented, and simplified [54]. School functions also entail creating remarkable learning environments through which teachers can lead learners to the ultimate reality as much as possible, attaining their fullest potential and guiding them toward their highest reasonable role [55]. Wise teachers regarded as model characters within efficient and expressive schools may have such skills to be effective and operative regarding their pupils’ moral characters [18]. The teachers’ task ought to be to wisely generate an enjoyable learning environment for students [55, 56].

The schools’ interpretations of observed truths entail the human mind as perfect and precise rather than a traditional physical experience [55]. Another primary school function is knowledge and information transmission from one generation to the next, so that popular culture can be preserved through teaching [54]. As an essential curriculum within schools, subject matters must be pleasant and inspire students to develop cooperation, obedience, and respect for others [18]. Idealistic schools work on applying recommendations and directions while taking individual differences into account [34]. Idealistic educators believe that authorized examinations are the finest technique to evaluate pupils’ achievements. Schools could apply punishment simply to regulate learners’ conduct [34, 49]. An additional key feature of school functions based on the educational philosophy of Idealism is the role of teachers.

Education / What Every Student Should Know About Plagiarism by davidkingsley59(m): 12:05pm On Feb 22
Plagiarism means presenting someone else’s work as your own without giving proper credit to the original author. In academic writing, plagiarism involves using words, ideas, or information from a source without including a citation. Plagiarism can have serious consequences, even when it’s done accidentally.

Here are some important points every student should know about plagiarism:

Severity Levels of Plagiarism:

Mild: When a source is cited in the text but left out of the reference list, or when quotation marks are omitted around a quote. The likely consequence is a grade penalty or an automatic zero.

Moderate: Involves copying text from a source with a few words changed or paraphrasing a source without proper citation. The consequence may be failing grade for the course.

Severe: When a patchwork of different texts is passed off as original work or when an entire paper is written by someone else. Consequences can include academic probation or expulsion.

High School and College Applications:

Plagiarism can also impact high school students and college applicants. Many high schools use plagiarism checkers, and colleges treat plagiarism seriously. Admissions officers may disregard an application if they find any part of it has been plagiarized.

Why Plagiarism Is Serious:

Dishonesty: Plagiarism indicates a lack of honesty about one’s work.

Harm to Others: It harms the original authors whose work is stolen.

Learning Hindrance: When you plagiarize, your own creativity and learning process are hindered.

Remember, even accidental plagiarism can have consequences. Familiarize yourself with your institution’s plagiarism policy and always give credit where it’s due!

Investment / GOLD: Illegal Chinese Miners Fueling Insecurity In Nigeria by davidkingsley59(m): 10:49am On Feb 07
ILLEGAL GOLD MINING IS A GROWING PROBLEM IN NIGERIA THAT IS BENEFITING TERRORIST GROUPS, CAUSING VIOLENCE AND INCREASING POLLUTION. RESIDENTS OF MINING AREAS BLAME CHINESE NATIONALS WHO SET UP AND OVERSEE MINING AND REFINING OPERATIONS.

Tension continues to rise around these pit mines. Locals accuse Chinese miners of collaborating with extremist militants, corrupting government officials, destroying farmlands and polluting water with mercury and lead.

Image shows a Chinese miner shovelling processed gold dust in Anka village in the northeastern state of Zamfara, Nigeria. REUTERS

Omololu Afilaka, the traditional ruler of Atorin-Ijesha in Osun State, said his people are being “conquered” by Chinese miners.

“Before the Chinese came, we had artisanal miners. They could only bite as much as they could chew,” he told NTC News as part of an investigation in 2023. “Then came the big players, the Chinese illegal miners, and they came with excavators.”

A recent report by researchers Oluwole Ojewale of the Enhancing Africa’s Response to Transnational Organized Crime (ENACT) project, and Freedom Onuoha, a lecturer at the University of Nigeria, revealed how Nigeria’s mining sector is plagued by insecurity and organized crime.

“In the banditry-affected north-west and central areas, loose criminal networks engaged in illegal gold mining have ties to foreign actors and facilitate trafficking,” said the report, which was published on December 13, 2023. “Foreign networks operate like their local counterparts and have repositioned their activities in the criminal value chain through direct involvement in illicit gold mining in remote villages and forests.”

The researchers say that foreign demand drives most of the criminal markets for gold in Nigeria. Nigerian authorities have arrested several Chinese nationals since 2020 for involvement in illegal mining.

“Our mining sector has not been accorded much priority by the nation’s security actors until recently, when illegal mining was linked to rural banditry,” said a Zamfara State senior police officer, who spoke to ENACT on condition of anonymity. “Most of the mining activities are being done by illegal miners because mining sites have been neglected by regulators and security agents. Chinese and other foreigners too are taking advantage of this prolonged neglect by the nation’s mining regulators and security agents. It’s also the reason why bandits are attracted to the sector.”

In April 2023, British newspaper The Times published a stunning report about Chinese companies that gained access to mines by paying Nigerian extremist militant groups, “raising the prospect that Beijing could be indirectly funding terror in Africa’s largest economy.”

SBM Intelligence, a Lagos-based analytical group, shared videos with The Times of militant leaders from groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province who boasted that Chinese workers in their territory must pay “rent.”

Chinese mining bosses in Zamfara and Katsina “are perfectly willing to pay off whoever needs to be paid off and have no qualms about it and are allowed to carry out operations,” SBM head of research Ikemesit Effiong told The Times.

The Chinese embassy in Nigeria objected to the report but sought to distance itself from the actions of Chinese individuals.

“The Chinese government, as well as the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, have always encouraged and urged the Chinese companies and nationals in Nigeria to abide by the laws and regulations of Nigeria, and to implement the local rules and guidance on labor, environment, health and safety, etc., and would continue their efforts in this regard,” it said in a statement on April 17, 2023.

China has a massive footprint in Africa’s mining sector, with billions of dollars invested. Chinese nationals are heavily involved in extractive operations across the continent, mining for gold, other precious metals and valuable minerals such as lithium, cobalt and copper.

In 2019, China imported nearly $10 billion worth of minerals from sub-Saharan Africa, according to The Economic Times newspaper.

Afilaka is among the local leaders who feel that Nigerians are not receiving their fair share. He also questions how many of the Chinese laborers have permits to work in Nigeria, a common refrain in the communities surrounding mining operations.

“There is a lot of darkness in my land,” Afilaka said. “If you’re coming in here and you’re extracting billions of naira worth of gold, I think the people should benefit from it.”

Ojewale and Onuoha called on the Nigerian government to intensify regulation and protection of its burgeoning mining industry.

“In a country contending with diverse forms of criminality, the involvement of foreign criminals in the extractive sector presents a serious security challenge,” they wrote. “These minerals are among the country’s most critical national assets and should be guarded through a coordinated security response.”

Family / The Impact Of Parental Involvement On Students’ Academic Performance by davidkingsley59(m): 9:15am On Feb 07
For decades, research from around the world has shown that parents’ involvement in and engagement with their child’s education—including through parent-teacher conferences, parent-teacher organizations, school events, and at-home discussions about school—can lead to higher student achievement and better social-emotional outcomes.

Here are five takeaways from the research.

1. STUDIES SHOW MORE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT LEADS TO IMPROVED ACADEMIC OUTCOMES
When parents are involved in their children’s schooling, students show higher academic achievement, school engagement, and motivation, according to a 2019 American Psychological Association review of 448 independent studies on parent involvement.

A 2005 study from researchers at the Johns Hopkins University Center on School, Family and Community Partnerships, for example, showed that school practices encouraging families to support their child’s math learning at home led to higher percentages of students scoring at or above proficiency on standardized math tests.

And research shows that parent involvement with reading activities has a positive impact on reading achievement, language comprehension, and expressive language skills, as well as students’ interest in reading, attitudes toward reading, and level of attention in the classroom, according to a research summary by the National Literacy Trust.

“When parents become involved at school by, for example, attending events such as open houses or volunteering in the classroom, they build social networks that can provide useful information, connections to school personnel (e.g., teachers), or strategies for enhancing children’s achievement,” the APA research review said. “In turn, parents with heightened social capital are better equipped to support their children in succeeding in school as they are able to call on resources (e.g., asking a teacher to spend extra time helping their children) and utilize information they have gathered (e.g., knowing when and how their children should complete their homework).”

The Impact of Digital Marketing on an Ageing Population: An Analysis of England’s Hospitality Industry

MSc PROGRAMME: International Business (MSc.)

TITLE: The Impact of Digital Marketing on an Ageing Population: An Analysis of England’s Hospitality Industry

DISSERTATION AIM

The chosen research topic explores how digital marketing increases awareness and usage of hospitality services among England’s ageing population.

RATIONALE FOR YOUR CHOICE OF TOPIC

Marketing has been part of human existence since trade by barter sustained business exchanges decades ago. In today’s world, marketing involves technology-driven activities that connect businesses to clients/customers via the internet and intranet. Digital marketing channels (such as email, websites, search engines, and social media platforms) facilitate fast and intuitive interactions that improve customer experience. With intent data, companies can customize marketing plans to reach a target audience who is most likely to buy the products or services. So, digital marketing is about connecting with customers at the right time and place.

Investments in the hospitality industry have gradually increased across the world since the COVID-19 pandemic. Hotel and restaurant businesses in England are also attracting more customers and investors. The hospitality industry does not only increase England’s trade income, it markets the nation’s tourist attractions and provides resident or visiting individuals and groups with memorable experiences. But despite the achievements and potentials of technology integration in digital marketing, the level of engagement between hotels and today’s ageing population (50 years and above) is very low due to some challenges impeding their use of information and communications technology (ICT) for online market research and e-commerce transactions.

On this backdrop, the research focuses on how digital marketing and ICT usage can improve interactions with older persons not only for marketing purposes, but to eliminate age-based discrimination from marketing professionals in the hospitality industry.

STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE OF TOPIC (IF KNOWN)

According to live data from Worldometer, the UK population is 68,833,119 as of 1 March 2023 and the figures might reach 70,485,490 in 2030. Interestingly, the population in England is growing faster by (3.5%) when compared to statistical projections for Wales (2.6%), Scotland (0.3%), and Northern Ireland (2.0%) between 2020 and mid-2030. Data from Statista shows that in 2021 the population of ageing person in England was 3,904,317 (50-54 years), 3,819,992 (55-59 years), and 3,280,891 (60-64 years). The problem is that UK’s ageing population could reach 3.1 million in 2045 and they present marketing opportunities that businesses in England’s hospitality industry can explore to increase market visibility, sales, and sustainable growth.

Older people have a right to healthier ageing, and digital technologies can improve the quality of life, so when internet-based gadgets (e.g., smartphones, tablets, and computers) are designed with improved accessibility features they increase usage among the older population. Therefore, digital transformations in the hospitality industry that increase engagement with ageing people will certainly expand customer segments. Moreover, in England’s hospitality industry where inclusion, diversity, and equality have been a strategic business strategy, hotels within the country have better business prospects in creating accessible, inclusive and age friendly brand communication channels across different demographics.

WHY DIGITAL MARKETING?

Digital media, specifically ICT, can help ageing people to live an active later life, make significant socio-economic contributions to society, and improve quality of life. This implies that marketers can use digital technologies beyond creating awareness for products and services. The chosen research topic will therefore explore how digital marketers can explore Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), ethics, and customer-oriented business models to increase customer experience, trust, and brand equity.

DATA COLLECTION

The author will collect primary and secondary data for this qualitative study. Primary data is from the ageing population in England whereas secondary sources of data include academic journals, reputable research institutions, website articles on England’s hospitality industry, and relevant academic books. Use of both analytical methods will not only broaden understanding of information, but increase the reliability and validity of findings.

For some unemployed people, sending out applications becomes such a routine that effectiveness suffers. When applying, it is important not to simply apply to all the jobs you can find. Choosing the right job offer and applying for it with a suitable letter of application is better than sending the same standard application to zillions of job offers – remember: quality over quantity.

2. Motivation letters are rare, but welcome
Because applying online is becoming ever more popular, motivation letters are getting shorter and becoming a thing of the past. Often people send them as a simple email together with their CV attached.

If you want to stand out, you can write a proper motivation letter and send it by post. A letter, being such a rare thing, will stand out and catch the recruiter’s attention. It’s a great way to stand out from the crowd.

3. Keep a good record of your applications
When a recruiter calls and you cannot remember their name or the name of the company they work for or even what position you applied for, it demonstrates that you are not organised, and this does not go down well with the recruiter. To avoid such a faux pas, it is enough to make yourself an Excel table in which you enter date of application, name of company, job description and contact person. This way, nothing can go wrong.

4. Follow up your application
If you do not receive an answer to your written application, you should generally call the company after two weeks at the latest. A quick phone call is enough to make sure that your application has been received. Your follow-up also stresses your motivation for the job and is often the trigger for an invitation to an interview.

5. Say thank you for the interview
After the job interview, it is a good idea to send a short email to the recruiter thanking them for their time and for the opportunity to get to know each other personally and learn more about the job. In the email, you should also emphasize your interest in the position once again. This short message helps to make a good impression and to score in a simple, subtle way.

Career / How To Deal With Dismissal by davidkingsley59(m): 11:41am On Feb 01
No reason to bury your head in the sand

Being dismissed – for whatever reason – is unpleasant and can have serious consequences for the person concerned. Despite that, or rather because of that, you should not feel sorry for yourself.

Being dismissed by your employer is always a stressful situation. A mixture of anger, shame and fear for the future controls the emotions of the person concerned. Why me and not the colleague I cannot stand? What will my colleagues think about me now? Unemployed – what’s next? These are just a few worries that you have to deal with when you have been dismissed.

Here are some tips that, if followed, can help you deal with the situation.

The first question to be clarified should always be the grounds for the dismissal. Were you dismissed because of the company’s financial situation? Did you not perform or did you do something wrong?

If the former is the case, the dismissal has basically nothing to do with you. It is logical that it often hits newer employees who might not yet be fully integrated, rather than long-established employees who have already spent half their lives with the company.

If you have been dismissed for other reasons, ask yourself how this could have happened. Was the boss not happy with my performance, might this have been a sign that I’m not fit for the job? Did I make a serious mistake, am I unable to cope and therefore unhappy, is there a positive side to my losing the job? So, after the initial rage, you might even admit to yourself that the job did not interest you anymore and you were secretly thinking about changing your job already.

One thing, however, is clear: new doors will gradually open. Even if it is difficult at first, you should take action immediately after having been dismissed and switch to “job search” mode. Anyone who takes a vacation and wants to enjoy their “newly gained free time” often finds it difficult to find their way back into everyday working life.

When looking for a new job, it is definitely advisable to ask your former employer for a letter of reference that contains an assessment of your services provided. The experience you have gained in your old job and your duties there will help you find a new job. Use your “free time” for further education or retraining, which is something that can and should be included in your CV. This makes a good impression and shows commitment and willingness to develop further.

Career / Best Interview Questions And Answers by davidkingsley59(m): 8:40am On Jan 06
1. TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF.
Your interviewers will likely start out with a question about you and your background to get to know you. Start by giving them an overview of your current position or activities, then provide the most important and relevant highlights from your background that make you the most qualified for the role. If you’d like, it is generally acceptable to include some light personal details about things like your pets, hobbies or family. Doing so can help you be more memorable and personable to the interviewer.

Example: “Currently, I serve as the assistant to three of the company’s five executive team members including the CEO. During my time at the organisation, I have been recognised for my time management skills, writing abilities and commitment to excellence.

From my 12 years of experience as an executive assistant, I’ve developed the ability to anticipate roadblocks and create effective alternative plans. My greatest value to any executive is my ability to work independently, freeing up their time to focus on the needs of the business.

It’s clear that you’re looking for someone who understands the nuances of managing a CEO’s busy day and can proactively tackle issues. As someone with a sharp eye for detail and a drive to organise, I thrive on making sure every day has a clear plan and every plan is clearly communicated.”

2. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF?
When interviewers ask you to talk about yourself, they’re looking for information about how your qualities and characteristics align with the skills they believe is required to succeed in the role. If possible, include quantifiable results to demonstrate how you use your best attributes to drive success.

Example: “I am a vigilant and proactive Security Officer working to ensure safe, secure and orderly environments. I’m also a lifelong learner always seeking out the latest security equipment and techniques to patrol buildings. Lastly, I am thorough in documenting all incidents and actively making suggestions to management about security improvements and changes.”

3. WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE?
Employers often ask this question to identify why you might be more qualified than other candidates they’re interviewing. To answer, focus on why hiring you would benefit the employer. As you don’t know the other applicants, it can be challenging to think about your answer in relation to theirs. Addressing why your background makes you a good fit will let employers know why your traits and qualifications make you well prepared.

Example: “What makes me unique is my experience of four years in retail. Because I’ve had first-hand experience fielding shoppers’ questions, feedback and complaints, I know what customers want. I know what it takes to create a positive consumer experience through marketing.”

4. WHY DO YOU WANT TO WORK HERE?
Interviewers often ask this question as a way to determine whether or not you took time to research the company and to learn why you see yourself as a good fit. The best way to prepare for this question is to do your homework and learn about the products, services, mission, history and culture of this workplace. In your answer, mention the aspects of the company that appeal to you and align with your career goals. Explain why you’re looking for these things in an employer.

Example: “The company’s mission to help college graduates pay off their student loan debt speaks to me. I’ve been in that situation and I’d love the opportunity to work with a company that’s making a difference. Finding a company with a positive work environment and values that align with my own has remained a priority throughout my job search and this company ranks at the top of the list.”

5. WHAT INTERESTS YOU ABOUT THIS ROLE?
Like the previous question, hiring managers often include this question to make sure you understand the role and to give you the opportunity to highlight your relevant skills. In addition to thoroughly reading the job description, it can be helpful to compare the role requirements against your skills and experience. Choose a few things you particularly enjoy or excel at and focus on those in your answer.

Example: “I’ve been passionate about user experience design for most of my professional career. I was excited to see this company uses Adobe products because I’m well versed in the entire suite. Also, I’m a huge advocate for applying agile workflows to design. I think it’s the most effective way to tackle large projects. I was able to successfully build and launch an agile process in my previous role as UX manager and we saw considerable improvements in project speed.”

6. WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?
Employers ask this question to gauge your level of self-awareness and ensure your sources of motivation align with the role. To answer, be as specific as possible, provide real-life examples and tie your answer back to the job role.

Example: “Making a true difference in the lives of my patients and their families motivates me to strive for excellence in everything I do. I look forward to seeing my patients’ reaction when we get a positive outcome that will change their lives forever. That’s why I became a nurse and why I’m pursuing a position in pediatrics.”

Education / A Study On The Relation Between Industry 4.0 Technologies And Gamification In E- by davidkingsley59(m): 8:23pm On Dec 26, 2023
ABSTRACT
PURPOSE
COVID-19 played a crucial role in the development and enlargement of learning via electronic media. Still, the recent fourth industrial revolution [Industry 4.0 (I4.0)] paved the road toward Education 4.0. In this regard, several research challenges arise, involving the preparation of gamification strategies in online learning environments. In this sense, this paper aims to investigate the relationship between technologies of I4.0 and gamification practices in online learning around the world. Specifically, to categorize the studies of the scientific literature in the area into knowledge domains and the mention of I4.0 technologies and to verify the relationship of these technologies with the different educational levels.

DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH
The preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis protocol was used as a research method with 130 papers included for full content analysis and obtained from the Web of Science.

FINDINGS
The leading I4.0 technologies mentioned in the analyzed papers were simulation, Internet of Things and augmented/virtual reality, in this order. Although there are more mentioned technologies, the domain of knowledge to be applied and the educational level interfere in choosing these pillars. With this, the main findings of this relationship were exposed in a singular, modern, active, realist, technological framework to demonstrate how I4.0 relates to the practice of gamification in online educational environments.

ORIGINALITY/VALUE
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study that brings together the relationship of gamification applied in e-learning with I4.0 technologies.

In times of doubt and fear's embrace,
We discover courage, our saving grace.
With bravery as our armor, we forge ahead,
Facing challenges, no longer filled with dread.

But to shape us, transforming our heart.
Through adversity, we learn and grow,
Becoming stronger with each blow.

So, let's embrace the endless struggles we face,
With unwavering resolve and a steady pace.
For within us lies a spirit unyielding,
Overcoming struggles and achieving our healing.

In this grand symphony of life, we shall prevail,
For our struggles, we'll conquer and unveil.

Family / Rising From Ashes by davidkingsley59(m): 10:37pm On Nov 09, 2023
In life's journey, we face trials and strife,
Struggles that test the very core of our life.
But within us lies a strength so profound,
With determination, our struggles can be unwound.

When darkness envelopes our path ahead,
And hope seems lost, filled with dread,
It's in these moments, we must not despair,
For within us, a spark of resilience is there.

Like a phoenix rising from ashes anew,
We can conquer our struggles, no matter how few.
With every setback, we gain wisdom and might,
Building strength to soar to new heights.

Obstacles may seem insurmountable and vast,
But perseverance ensures they won't forever last.
Through diligence and dedication, we find,
That struggles can be conquered, left behind.
