PoliticsRe: POST-ELECTION: THE TRUE DEMOCRAT? Vs ABRAHAM LINCOLN OF AFRICA by davidwillyetuk(m): 10:39pm On Apr 01, 2015
Buhari’s integrity finally spoke for him after 12 years and after contesting in three presidential races.

He was humble to admit his faults when he was a dictator and promised to be a true democrat.

He was patient for 12 years just like Abraham Lincoln who contested several times and failed, but in due time he finally won.
PoliticsI Made A Mistake Supporting Amaechi In 2007; Wike Is Next Rivers Governor- Odili by davidwillyetuk(op): 1:11am On Dec 29, 2014
THE former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, has expressed regret that he supported Mr. Rotimi Amaechi to become the governor of the state in 2007.

Odili said Amaechi dismantled the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party through his (Amaechi) defection to the All Progressives Congress.

He explained that but for the quick intervention of a former Minister of State for Education and PDP governorship candidate in Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, the party would have gone into oblivion.

The ex-governor, who spoke on Saturday during Wike’s campaign tour in Ndoni Local Government Area on Saturday, said Amaechi worked against the PDP structure put in place by the founding fathers of the party.

Odili pointed out that the PDP, in the past, supported Amaechi’s political career with good intentions, adding that he and the PDP had accepted their mistake and were poised to correct it in 2015.

It was the first time the former governor would speak publicly on the strained relationship between him and incumbent governor.

He said, “We thought we did the right thing by supporting Amaechi to become the governor of the state. We left a united state; we also left a united party. The PDP was one, Rivers State is the PDP.

“There was no other party in Rivers State other than the PDP. Whatever the party hierarchy said would happen. The secretary is here to support what I am telling you here today.

“With all the best intentions, we supported his political career and ambition. We thought we did what was best for the state. As you know, until a man has power and has money, you don’t really know him.

“One thing is clear; we have accepted our mistake and we are determined to correct it in 2015. Who would have thought that a governor who won an election on the platform of the PDP would defect with the mandate of the party to another party?

“Who would have thought that a governor elected on the platform of the PDP would abandon the PDP to join an opposition party? The elders of the party who are here can corroborate what I am saying here today. We ran a cohesive party. We had respect for the elders of the party. We had respect for party members.”

Explaining that no member of the PDP attempted to hijack the party during his reign as the leader, Odili recalled that party officials respected elders during his days as the state governor.

He, however, expressed gratitude to Wike for reuniting the PDP in the state immediately Amaechi defected to the APC, along with the former state chairman of the PDP, Chief Godspower Ake, his commissioners, his supporters and 22 out of the 23 local government chairmen.

“I want to thank the governorship candidate of the PDP for the 2015 governorship election and the next governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, for miraculously rescuing the party from disintegration and working tirelessly to unite the members of the party.

“By the special grace of God in February, we are going to the polls. The first election is to re-elect President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term. The second election will be the governorship election where our candidate, Wike, will emerge as the next governor of Rivers State.”

PoliticsSAHARA REPORTERS RESPONDS!! - Petty Allegations Of The Nigerian Army by davidwillyetuk(op): 4:30pm On Dec 28, 2014
The administrators and staff of SaharaReporters woke up to a spurious lavish claim by Brigadier Olaleye Lajide of the Nigerian Army that, because our website leaked a petition accusing top military officers of corruption and incompetence, we are now supporters of the Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram.

Among other nebulous claims, the military officer stated that SaharaReporters is a “faceless” organization.

This is one in a series of smear campaigns launched against SaharaReporters and its operators in recent times. We had been told a while ago that various arms of the Nigerian state were preparing a coordinated attack on our website and its chief operators, and we had reported to that effect.

Last month, in the service of an agenda to discredit our website, the same set of people had claimed that the founder and administrator of SaharaReporters was bribed with a $5 million mansion in California. The designers of this infantile propaganda had hoped to fool the unwary with that tall tale. Lacking intelligence and bereft of respect for their audience, those who concocted the allegation claimed that the mansion existed in a town in California, but could provide no address. It took little time for the allegation to fizzle as the accusers failed to provide something as basic as an address to enable curious readers to make further inquiries.

Shortly after, the same group of hirelings claimed that a former Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, the subject of several investigative reports by SaharaReporters, asserted that he had arrested the publisher of SaharaReporters for rape during the latter’s time as a student at the University of Lagos. Again, the allegation fizzled away, being a figment of the imagination of the smear artists. As in the case of the fake mansion without an address, the accusers could also not produce the date of the arrest, the charge sheet, the identity of the alleged victim, the location of the “rape” incident, or the date of prosecution.

Over the last week, the Nigerian Presidency has mobilized a significant amount of funds to their hired hands engaged in a new round of these smear campaigns. The purpose is to tarnish the reputation of SaharaReporters, a website that has remained steadfast in documenting the ineptitude and incompetence of the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

The Nigerian military hierarchy has led the latest smear campaign after SaharaReporters exposed the existence of a petition by an army officer who detailed the reasons the Nigerian army has not been able to defeat Boko Haram. That a military that has proved incapable of dislodging a ragtag group of sectarian terrorists would devote resources to discredit a website speaks volumes about the rut and degradation of various sectors of the Nigerian state—and exposes the confused, petty nature of the Nigerian regime.

SaharaReporters decided to publish the leaked petition in order to help Nigerians to understand why countless numbers of their fellows are sent to their ultimately deaths at the hands of Boko Haram insurgents. It is an open secret that Nigerian troops are inadequately equipped and ill motivated. That explains why Nigerian troops have not been able to stop Boko Haram’s murderous campaigns against defenseless civilians, especially in the northeast of Nigeria.

Till date, the army has not denied the factual content of the petition written by Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Wende. Instead, the army has engaged in subterfuge aimed at diverting attention form the substance of the petition, which stated clearly how the army could defeat Boko Haram militants within a matter of weeks.

By accusing SaharaReporters of supporting Boko Haram, the top commanders of the army accused in the petition of sabotaging the war against Boko Haram hope to turn attention away from their corruption and incompetence.

Discerning members of the public have not forgotten that, in a 2012 video released by Boko Haram’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, the terrorist group named SaharaReporters as one of the media houses it intended to attack.

Far from giving comfort to Boko Haram, our website has been in the forefront of drawing attention to the group’s gruesome attacks on innocent, defenseless Nigerians and others. Although the army has done a shoddy job of combating Boko Haram, SaharaReporters continues to accept and publish the press releases of the Nigerian army unedited. Recently, our website saved the army a great deal of embarrassment by alerting them to a false statement claiming that abducted Chibok girls had been released.

SaharaReporters has also done several live interviews with Nigeria’s top military spokesperson directly from our New York studios. How could the army’s spokesman have appeared in a televised program of an organization the military now claims is “faceless”? It is an absurd claim.
Lt. Col. Musa Sagir on SaharaTV
Nigerian military generals ought to focus on the challenge of return the army to a respectable force capable of defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting the lives and property of all law-abiding citizens.

It is nothing less than shameful that army generals would rather spend their time and other resources to mobilize “troops” on twitter and other kinds of social media in an elaborate smear campaign. In sending soldiers on missions to discredit critics and chase down newspaper vans, Nigerian military commanders only ensure that their troops cannot earn public respect or win the battle that matters—the one against an Islamist group bent on maiming, killing, and sowing destruction.

PoliticsRivers State Gov. Rotimi Denies Funding APC Campaigns With State Money by davidwillyetuk(op): 11:36am On Dec 26, 2014
The Rivers State Government has denied bankrolling the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, with proceeds from its privatised asset, dismissing an allegation the governor, Chibuike Amaechi, supervised illicit sales of government property and diversion of public funds.READ HERE

The government said the claims made by Tonye Princewill, the Labour Party candidate for next year’s governorship election in the state, are “utter nonsense” and are ill- conceived to tarnish its image.

“It must be pointed out clearly in no uncertain terms that proceeds from this sale were all received in the consolidated revenue account of the state,” the state commissioner of finance, Chamberlain Peterside, said in a statement Thursday.

“It is inconceivable that any such revenue could have been diverted for political party, campaign given the complex structure of our public accounting system that we operate. Where and how any one such as Mr. Princewill could come up with such claim of fund diversion is simply preposterous,” the government said.

He said proceeds of the deals were paid to a private account and were later deployed for the running of the APC at the national level.

In a statement Thursday, Mr. Princewill reaffirmed his claims and called for an inquiry.

But the Rivers government said the allegations are false, as all funds realised from any government transaction were transferred to state coffers and judiciously deployed.

On Risonpalm, one of the companies Mr. Chamberlain pointed out, the Rivers government said the firm wa concessioned because despite being the largest palm plantation in West Africa with over 10,000 hectares, it had been moribund for years.

“Under the administration of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi the plantation was successfully revamped through 35 years concessioning agreement with SIAT Group of Belgium who were the original project managers and have proven track record of operating oil palm plantations in Nigeria, including Presco Plc. that is currently public listed in the Nigeria Stock Exchange.

“Under the terms of that agreement SIAT assumed the debts/liabilities of the company and will pay annual royalties to Rivers State Government,” it said.

The government said already, SIAT has paid off all its obligations while revamping the operations and creating thousands of new jobs.

It said beyond annual royalties, the state stands to earn tax revenue that will boost its internally generated revenue.

On the sale of the state’s power plants, also questioned by Mr. Princewill, the Rivers government said it divested 70 per cent of the over 500 megawatts station due to poor management, delay in refund of sold power by PHCN and inadequate gas supply – factors that hindered regular electricity supply.

It said the proceeds of the deal were remitted to the government’s coffers and are used for other projects.

“It is simply out of the question for those who know how financial system functions, that lenders and financiers can stand and see proceeds of their own credit facility diverted to other destinations that are not clearly stated in the loan covenants,” the government said.

In separate details provided to PREMIUM TIMES, the state government said the Olympia Hotel which had been comatose for 30 years was only revamped in 2012 and leased same year to Centrum Properties Limited & Cenpropsaroten Hotel Management Limited with a projected income of $1million, being concession fee and rent.

In addition to the concession fee, the new managers shall pay rent annually to the government after first five years, the government said.

Other asset include Supapod Building, leased to Artee Industries Limited in June 2011 with N200 million as projected income; and Hotel Presidential leased to Courdeau Nigeria Limited in 2009 with a projected income of ₦200 million yearly for first five years, and ₦220 million in second five years.

The government said it did not divert any income or proceeds from the deals.

“It simply beats my imagination that someone like him (Mr. Princewill) who has been on the corridors of power in this state that should know better, will peddle such falsehood and derogatory information relating to the public expenditure of the state,” the finance commissioner said.

The government accused Mr. Princewill of initiating efforts to gain from many projects in the state.

“It must be noted that Tonye Princewill has himself originated and anchored several projects and transactions in the state geared towards his own pecuniary gains,” it said. “Meanwhile the outcome of such projects remain questionable and far from the set objectives.”

The government said the Amaechi administration has instituted fiscal reforms that ensure transparency and to check corruption.

“It is on record that the Rivers State remains the first and only state that maintains a dual international credit rating from Fitch and Standard and Poor’s. This is no mean feat considering the rigorous process of not only obtaining the ratings but also constantly sustaining and improving it,” the government said.

PoliticsBuhari To IBB - Whoever Wants To Sit On This Chair Let Him Come (FLASHBACK) by davidwillyetuk(op): 9:50am On Dec 26, 2014
Former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari and presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has revealed that he knew that former military president, Ibrahim Babangida was planning to overthrow him in 1985.

The retired General told TheCable: “It is true that I learnt he was planning a coup against me. And I sat and discussed it with him in my office.

“He brought the news that he went to Kano and people complained that I pulled a pistol during a council meeting. I said Ibro ? I called him Ibro because I was just senior to him by a few months ? I said whoever wants to sit on this chair let him come and sit here. And he decided to do it.”

When reminded that he could have arrested Babangida and tried him, Buhari said: “Yes. Remember how many people he killed subsequently for trying to overthrow him? But when I came in, there was no bloodshed. I think a couple of policemen were killed and [Brigadier Ibrahim] Bako also died in an ambush.

“But deliberately, nobody was killed. I was in the front, the real front in the Nigerian civil war. I had seen enough of death and I know what God means by human life. Any human being, God values their life. And anybody who hopes to meet God, he should be careful about killing.

“When there is law and due process of law took place, the question is clear. Like the cocaine convicts that were executed, the decision was taken in supreme military council.
