And so the presidential elections have come and gone, and here we all are standing amidst great “uncertainty”. But remember that the only thing which is constant in this life is change! Some say : “ the devil you know is better than the angel you do not know”, and I ask what exactly does the devil stand for and what does the angel stand for? If your answer is sincere and true then I prefer the unknown angel to the known devil.

We have clamored for change and yes we have it now. “Change” in my own perspective is tuned towards.

Change in the soon-to-be-past administration – which has already happened.
Change in the present and future fate our nation Nigeria – Which I believe is coming.
Change in the way Nigerians reason. I hope we all would see ourselves as one.
However, there are certain questions that need answers and until they are answered we cannot have the complete change we desire.

1. Was our past president, Goodluck Jonathan really fair to all Nigerians while he was on seat?
2. Could his mistakes be easily corrected by Gen. Buhari?
3. How do we still view Gen. Buhari especially those in the south-south and Northeast ?
4. Was this election free and fair indeed? Or was our Ex-presidents’ hands tied from rigging it?
5. Finally, what has the personality and the presidential election taught us so far?

I would like to start with the first question.

1. Was our past president, Goodluck Jonathan really fair to all Nigerians while he was on seat?

The answer is sadly but emphatically NO. Goodluck Jonathan was never ready for presidency, the office was way too heavy for him to handle. The shoes were too big for his feet. He lacked the know-hows’ and know-whens’ ability. He awoke a strong opposition force that not only formed a party but built a strong-hold among the masses. The public display of corruption during his tenure was so much that people would wonder if the president was actually blind and deaf. His empathy towards the brutal killings by Boko Haram and unknown gunmen automatically ceased and he remained unapologetic towards it. He started doing in 6 weeks things he ought to have done during the past 6 years and thinks that the Nigerian people are bunch of fools. Obasanjo warned him about the alarming rate of youth unemployment and he did little as regards the matter. How many people did the SURE-P project employ as compared to the number of unemployed youths? SURE-P was wonderful and innovative but was short circuited and hijacked by greedy members in his cabinet. SURE-P would have been a gold mine to limit unemployment but he chose to stay mute when it was penetrated by corruption.

People talk about the you-win project, but the truth is, how many people benefited from it and to what purpose was it created? One has to go through numerous and rigorous processes before you are acknowledged, to mention but a few. Jonathan was careless with his administration; he was surrounded by wicked and greedy men. He didn’t carefully select those to work with. He was virtually MAN-ALONE, and he never knew it.

To make matters worse he couldn’t command respect even towards his wife who ended up being one of the major reasons he failed. Imagine Dame Patience A.K.A mama peace abusing the northern people, calling then names and saying that all they do is to give birth to uncountable children and throw them away into the streets. She forgot that these same northerners she abused are the ones that played a major role in electing the husband in 2011. Common sense is not actually common. Education is far from speaking big grammar or having certificates. If she claims to be educated-which we all know she isn’t, then she ought to have known what to say, when to say, where to say it and how to say it. Jonathan needs to caution his wife if he wishes to live in peace.....

Jonathan was faced with two options:

1. Leave the office honourably by allowing the masses decide and thus retain what’s left of his integrity.
2. Rig the election and lose face in the international communities thereby making the next four years horrible for himself and for Nigerians.

He obviously for the first time made a wise decision by and for himself. He picked the first option.

Buhari’s integrity finally spoke for him after 12 years and after contesting in three presidential races.

He was humble to admit his faults when he was a dictator and promised to be a true democrat.

He was patient for 12 years just like Abraham Lincoln who contested several times and failed, but in due time he finally won.
