For starters: you can start by publishing your undergraduate research work, your postgraduate seminars and thesis.

You may not have money to publish in expensive Journal houses like Elsevier and science direct, no problem, you can start by publishing in free journal houses. The more publications you have, the more your chances of getting that lecturing job or promotion.
I'll help by dropping one free journal publication house for interested scholars. I will drop more on popular demand.

Good luck to all those applying for the Chevening Scholarship this year. Although I was bounced last year, I managed to secure another full scholarship at the London School of Economics and Political Science. The lesson here is to apply to as many scholarships as possible.

I have just bin delayed for the third time.. Guess Canada is not for everyone..... Reasons are not satisfied I will return to my country based on purpose of visit, travel history and personal n financial status.... I paid some funds to the school and also got full funding ..i applied on July 14.....guess is time to move on. Painful... Thanks house

First of all congrats over your admission and full scholarship. I have full scholarship from the University of Saskatchewan too. It's like they have much money to give out to international students.

All jokes aside, you do not need to worry about any gaps in your education as long as you explain what you were up to in those time gaps. I observed they are very keen on gaps, I had a gap of two months from when I returned back to Nigeria and did nothing, but just chilling and catching up on family life. The VAC staff would tolerate no gaps left blank and made me refill my form twice accounting for those gaps and what I was doing. That is one of the benefits of doing paperoute than online application. You get guidance, while online there is no guidance, you are left susceptible to your own whims and caprice.

A second masters instead of a PHD always brings concern about purpose of study to the VOs. But I am confident that as a fully funded prospective student, you can demonstrate to the VO your passion for studies and what made you choose a second masters instead of PHD. Do not try to feign an excuse, come out clean. Tell them why you have chosen the field of study, why in Canada and how what you are studying will be an investment in the future of our country.

It is obvious that website is poorly presented. That requirement is not exclusive to SIU. Many schools use it. Just "Google" those numbers and see what turns up.

That thing doesn't apply to GRE. It looks like TOEFL stuff. It appears they want you to get at least 79 on TOEFL iBT. One can never get 213 on the GRE even if one doesn't attempt any question. The worst one can ever get is 260/340.

You are looking at SIU Carbondale right?

550 is the scale in the paper based old. 213 is equivalent to it in another metric and it mirrors 79/120 in the iBT.

In fact,I have received my SEVIS ID, but I'm scared because I haven't seen any transcript on my course of study,MA History. pls I need help or mentoring to pass the interview once and for all. That's what you should be doing. No one can do it for you. The time you spend here hailing people and responding to posts would be better spent figuring out what you want to do to further your education - what school, degree, cost of study, how good the school and program is - and feasibility of parlaying that into a well-paying job here that gives you the chance to stay here permanently.

Rather you're busy asking others to go do the search for you... well, you don't seem to be in a hurry.

Just as a general q, you have any opinion on "diversity" admission in schools like MIT and Columbia; I'm looking at some programs but I'll probably find it tough getting in without being some sort of "diversity" candidate.

It depends on the school really. Many schools will waive the TOEFL requirement for you but may have you take their own internal university English language test especially if you get a teaching assistantship (that involves speaking English). The types of GA that needs proof of English fluency most times are the teaching assistantship and, to a lesser extent, the research assistantship. Like I said, they may waive TOEFL for you for admission purposes and maybe also grant you a GA but you may be required to take an internal English language test should you get a TA type of GA especially upon arrival in the US.

Which program are you applying to that requires the MAT exam? From what I see, only the GRE or GMAT exam is required. Also you need to evaluate your transcript using WES or ECE, WES preferably. TOEFL is also required but you may try writing them a letter requesting a TOEFL waiver on the basis of English language being the sole language of educational instruction in Nigeria.
