There are many dams in the south-west that were conceived in the late 1970s and early 1980s and they have the potential to generate electricity, but most of them have been abandoned. These include:

Ikere Gorge Dam (Oyo)

Oyan Dam (Ogun)

Ogbese Dam (Ekiti)

Asejire, in Ibadan. All these and many more, including non hydro power plants scattered across will help us achieve the sufficiency we need if there being used optimally. We should be able to generate at least 10000mw or more.

Ideally . . both. Though most homes have earth wires only,already channeled to the ground. But lots of buildings here don't have thunder arrestors because they are expensive. Commercial buildings like banks can't afford not to because of their valuable equipments.

What's the difference between earthing and arrestors? Or are they the same thing?

Earthing systems handles everyday electrical faults, trapping currents to the ground to prevent shocks especially when we are barefooted. Thunder arrestors on the other hand specifically protect against lightning-induced surges. Usually at the top of buildings, mostly high buildings with high chances of getting stricken by thunder.

Whenever there's heavy rainfall accompany by a thunderstorm,it is safe to off all electrical appliances to avert lightening strike.

To a large extent this is true, but as long as u have conductors around the building, even if you switch off the power source, extreme voltage can still run through the house during thunderstorm and lightning, That's why it's best to have thunder arrestors on top of buildings that'll absorb it straight into the earth. Thunder arrestors are quite expensive that's why lots of buildings don't have them. Also, buildings should have good earthing system. . And I am talking from experience.
